Failed To Initialize Distributed COM (CoInitializeEx Returned 80010119).

Dec 10, 2007

I'm receiving this error message when trying to install SQL Server 2005 Express Edition on Windows Vista Home Premium:

Product: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition -- Error 29521. SQL Server Setup failed to execute a command for server configuration. The error was [Microsoft][SQL Native Client][SQL Server]The server could not load DCOM.. Refer to the server error logs and Setup logs for detailed error information.

In the ERRORLOG file, the error is:

Failed to initialize Distributed COM (CoInitializeEx returned 80010119). Heterogeneous queries and remote procedure calls are disabled. Check the DCOM configuration using Component Services in Control Panel.

There is no Component Services in the Control Panel. Do they just mean Services? If so, how do you configure DCOM in the Services?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Error Message: Setup Failed To Configure The Server

Oct 12, 2006

Re: SQL Server 2000 Developer Edition

Error message: Setup failed to configure the server

I'm attempting to install SQL Server 2000 Developer Edition on a 2nd workstation in our area for development and practice with having this 2nd workstation as a "local" (test) SQL Server box. The install fails with the above mentioned message. (We have a database running in production on SQL Server 2000 and we need a place to simply copy the database and run tests on it)

The target PC is running WInXP Pro-SP3 and has IIS installed, along with Visual Studio 2005 & .Net framework, etc.

I downloaded it (via MSDN license) and accepted the defaults on the install.

Any feedback is appreciated.

Thanks,

RLN

Error Message Conversion Failed When Converting The Nvarchar Value To Data Type Int??

Jan 19, 2007

Hi,

I can't seem to fix the following error in my stored procedure.

Error Message: Conversion failed when converting the nvarchar value '1007-001' to data type int.

The line of code in my stored procedure that seems to be the problem is the following:

CASE WHEN [Order Details].[Job No] IS NULL THEN [Orders].[Order No] ELSE [Order Details].[Job No] END

Order No has a data type of INT and Job No has a data type NVARCHAR(8). In the above case statement i'm not trying to convert anything but just display a column depending on the out come of the case statement. If anyone knows how to get around this error you help would be very welcome.

Sp_browsereplcmds Causes Failed To Initialize The Common Language Runtime...

On test-machine the procedure works fine, on production in doesn't.
I checked performance. Test machine has about 180MB available memory, production about 160MB (nearly constant). Thread count for process sqlservr is constant and similar at about 65.

Any idea why it runs on test but not on production machine?

Poison Message, Distributed Transaction

Oct 11, 2007

Hi!
I have crl stored procedure with distributed transaction in it. I really need such transaction. When a poison message occurs 5 time my queue is turned off.
I've read about handling poison messages in msdn (save transaction and rollback part of it), but it works only with local transaction. What should I do?
An important point is that messages shoold be processed in right order, I can't receive message and put it to the end of queue.
I want to try process poison message constantly.
I doesn't want to stop receiving messages in that queue.
Thanks.

Problem With Distributed Transactions - Multiple Threads Pop The Same Message From Queue

Aug 14, 2007

Hi,

I am using distributed transactions where in I start a TransactionScope in BLL and receive data from service broker queue in DAL, perform various actions in BLL and DAL and if everything is ok call TransactionScope.Commit().

I have a problem where in if i run multiple instances of the same app ( each app creates one thread ), the threads pop out the same message and I get a deadlock upon commit.

My dequeue SP is as follows:

CREATE PROC [dbo].[queue_dequeue]
@entryId int OUTPUT
AS
BEGIN
DECLARE @conversationHandle UNIQUEIDENTIFIER;
DECLARE @messageTypeName SYSNAME;
DECLARE @conversationGroupId UNIQUEIDENTIFIER;

GET CONVERSATION GROUP @conversationGroupId FROM ProcessingQueue;
if (@conversationGroupId is not null)
BEGIN
RECEIVE TOP(1) @entryId = CONVERT(INT, [message_body]), @conversationHandle = [conversation_handle], @messageTypeName = [message_type_name] FROM ProcessingQueue WHERE conversation_group_id=@conversationGroupId
END

if @messageTypeName in
(
'http://schemas.microsoft.com/SQL/ServiceBroker/EndDialog',
'http://schemas.microsoft.com/SQL/ServiceBroker/Error'
)
begin
end conversation @conversationHandle;
end
END

Can anyone explain to me why the threads are able to pop the same message ? I thought service broker made sure this cannot happen?

Receiving Error Message SERVER FAILED TO CONFIGURE THE SERVER.

May 24, 2005

I installed Micrsoft Server Desktop Engine from the CD I received in
my ASP.net book. The installation went fine and then I went to the DOS
prompt and did the "setup SAPWD..." and it ran. I restarted my computer and
opened ASP Matrix and went to the Data tab and proceed to connect to
the server. It gave me an error message it couldn't connect.

So I
uninstalled MSDE and made sure the sql2ksp3 folder was gone. So I went
ahead and installed the MSDE again from the CD again and then went to
DOS
to do the setup. It ran through the setup until the very end with 11
seconds remaining and received error message " Setup failed to
configure the server. Refer to the server error logs and setup logs for
more information. I have tried it several times and it always
stops around 11 seconds. I have tried to install the download from
microsoft.com
 instead the CD and that didn't work also. So at this point I
am stuck. PLEASE HELP!

I also checked my Registry keys for a file called PendingFileRenameOperations and it wasn't in the registry keys.

If anyone has any suggestions I would appreciate it.

Fix - Enlist Operation Failed: SQL Server Could Not Register With Microsoft Distributed Transaction Coordinator (MSDTC)

Mar 13, 2008

Distributed transactions were happily running between our SQL servers and then we installed Windows 2003 Server SP2 and all of a sudden we got this nice error message when attempting a remote data update via linked servers. I couldn't even run "BEGIN DISTRIBUTED TRANSACTION" without getting the error message. The full error message is:

"Enlist operation failed: 0x8004d00e(XACT_E_NOTRANSACTION). SQL Server could not register with Microsoft Distributed Transaction Coordinator (MSDTC) as a resource manager for this transaction. The transaction may have been stopped by the client or the resource manager."

Apparently, SP2 disables network DTC access (how nice, I feel more secure knowing that my data can't be updated remotely anymore).

Solution:

From Control Panel | Add or Remove Programs | Add Remove Windows Components
Select "Application Server" and click the "Details" button
Check "Enable network DTC access" and click OK for however many prompts it takes to apply the changes.

****NOTE**** this change WILL SHUT DOWN SQL SERVER so plan accordingly (this would have been handy to know in advance since I ran it in the middle of the workday and everyone got disconnected).

Hope this helps!

Response Message Failed

Aug 10, 2007

Hello everyone,

I have three merge publications that use web synchronization. The first publication works with no problem. When I try and sync the second publication, I get the following error messages:

"The operation timed out"
"The Processing of the response message failed".

So, I upped the query timeout from 300 seconds to 900 seconds. Now I get the following error messages:

"The connection with the server was terminated abnormally"
"The Processing of the response message failed".

I am using the Synchronize applet (found in the Accessories menu) to test my publications.

The third publication also works with no problem, so I do not see why the second one fails.

The only difference between the three is the following:
The first replicates a small handful of UDF's
The second replicates all tables (and has some filtering applied)
The third replicates all stored procs, views, and remaining UDF's.

Any ideas?

Thanks...

Assertion Failed Message Loading SSIS Package In Vb.net

Sep 21, 2007

I have SSIS packages created to import .xls files into sql tables. I now have vb.net code within which I am trying to execute individual packages whenever my code notices the .xls files being deposited within a network folder. When I try to run my code I get the error message:

Assertion Failed:Abort=Quit, Retry=Debug, Ignore=Continue
at STrace.ReadTraceValues()
at STrace..cctor()
at STrace.Trace(String strComponentName, String strLine)
at ManagedHelper.GetNextManagedInfo(DTS_Managed_INFO&nextManagedInfo)

here is my code:

Sub RunPackage(ByVal pkgCMD As String)

'

Dim app As New Application

Dim pkg As New Package

Dim pkgResults As DTSExecResult

'Dim pkgevents As IDTSEvents

'

pkg = app.LoadPackage(pkgCMD, Nothing)

pkgResults = pkg.Execute()

The error occurs during the pkg=app.LoadPackage(pkgCMD, Nothing) statement. Any idea of how I determine why the SSIS package will not load thru my vb app? It runs fine if I load the SSIS package in SSBIDS.
Thanks for any help or guidance.

Ad Hoc Distributed Queries Error

Aug 30, 2006

I am getting the following error when with SQL Express.SQL Server blocked access to STATEMENT 'OpenRowset/OpenDatasource' of component 'Ad Hoc Distributed Queries' because this component is turned off as part of the security configuration for this server. A system administrator can enable the use of 'Ad Hoc Distributed Queries' by using sp_configure. For more information about enabling 'Ad Hoc Distributed Queries', see "Surface Area Configuration" in SQL Server Books Online. While I was very please to see such a verbose error and directions on where to find the answer I have yet to figure out how to turn this option on... I tried  sp_configure 'Ad Hoc Distributed Queries', 1 but got the following error The configuration option 'Ad Hoc Distributed Queries' does not exist, or it may be an advanced option.If I execute only sp_configure it does not list Ad Hoc Distributied Queries as an option. I checked the sql Books Online and it tells me to use the Surface configuration tool which SQL Express does not seem to have....  Could someone help me out with this?Thanks - Mark
