Fill A Table With Data From A Database Using And Adodb Connection
Feb 19, 2008
Ok, so I can connect to the database without any errors, however im not sure about the syntax for filling a table. Heres what i have so far in the pageload. Like i said this all works with out any errors. Thanks in advance for the help.testDS = New DataSet()
testDataTable = New DataTable("Tbl")testDataTable.Columns.Add("username")
I'm trying to re-write my database to de-couple the interface (MS Access) from the SQL Backend. Â As a result, I'm going to write a number of Stored Procedures to replace the MS Access code. Â My first attempt worked on a small sample, however, trying to move this on to a real table hasn't worked (I've amended the SP and code to try and get it to work on 2 fields, rather than the full 20 plus).It works in SQL Management console (supply a Client ID, it returns all the client details), but does not return anything (recordset closed) when trying to access via VBA code.The Stored procedure is:-
USE [VMSProd] GO /****** Object: StoredProcedure [Clients].[vms_Get_Specified_Client] Script Date: 22/09/2015 16:29:59 ******/ SET ANSI_NULLS ON GO SET QUOTED_IDENTIFIER ON
Hi! I have a vb.net program that writes data to an SQL Server database using ADODB. The problem is if I put the code that writes data to the database in between BeginTrans() and CommitTrans(), the database is not updated. Here is the flow of my program:
Dim connection as ADODB.Connection 'setup the connection to the SQL Server database here
connection.BeginTrans()
InsertData() ' --> data is written to the database ' this function works properly
connection.CommitTrans()
If I comment out the BeginTrans() and CommitTrans() functions, the data is properly inserted into the database.
Does an SQL Server database requires special settings to support transactions?
Hi ! I have a textbox and a Search button. When the user inputs a value and press the button, i want a datagrid to be filled. The following code runs: Dim connect As New Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection( _ "Server=SrvnameSQLEXPRESS;Integrated Security=True; UID= ;password= ; database=dtbsname") connect.Open() Dim cmd As New SqlCommand Dim valor As New SqlParameter("@valor", SqlDbType.VarChar, 50) cmd.CommandText = "Ver_Contactos_Reducido" cmd.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure cmd.Connection = connect cmd.Parameters.Add(valor) cmd.Parameters("@valor").Value = texto Dim adapter As New SqlDataAdapter(cmd) Dim ds As New System.Data.DataSet() adapter.Fill(ds) GridViewContactos.DataSource = ds GridViewContactos.DataBind() connect.Close() I drag a datagrid on the page and only changed its Id. Into the SQL database the stored procedure is the following: ALTER PROCEDURE [dbo].[Ver_Contactos_Reducido] (@Valor VARCHAR(100)) AS BEGIN SET NOCOUNT ON; SELECT NombreRazonSocial, Nombre, Apellido,TelefonoLaboral, Interno, TelefonoCelular, Email1, Organizacion FROM CONTACTOS WHERE NombreRazonSocial = @Valor OR Nombre = @Valor OR Apellido = @Valor OR TelefonoLaboral = @Valor OR Interno = @Valor OR TelefonoCelular =@Valor OR Email1 = @Valor OR Organizacion= @Valor END When i run the page i can't see the datagrid, and after i enter a text and press the button, nothing happens. What am i doing wrong?? Thks!!
my code is using ADODB connection to connect to SQL (Virtual) Server.the way it being done is (c++):ADODB::_ConnectionPtr m_dbConn;ADODB::_RecordsetPtr m_dbRst;m_dbConn.CreateInstance(__uuidof(ADODB::Connection ));m_dbRst.CreateInstance( __uuidof( ADODB::Recordset ));m_dbConn->ConnectionString=( L"DSN=mydsn" );m_dbConn->Open("","sa","",-1);lately after installing SP3 over SQL2000, it was impossible to connect- the error message showed: login failed for user 'null)'. reason: notassociated with a trusted sql server connection.so i changed the connection string to:m_dbConn-> ConnectionString =(L"DSN=mydsn; UID=sa; PWD=;");m_dbConn->Open("","","",-1);and now it works !!what is the reason for that ?what in sql SP3 interrupt for this kind of connection ?what is the difference ?
hi have written SSIS script and i am using script component to Row count below my code what i have written. and i am getting error below i have mention...after code see the error using System;
} the error Script component has encountered an exception in user code Object is not an ADODB.RecordSet or an ADODB.Record. Parameter name: adodb at System.Data.OleDb.OleDbDataAdapter.FillFromADODB(Object data, Object adodb, String srcTable, Boolean multipleResults) at System.Data.OleDb.OleDbDataAdapter.Fill(DataTable dataTable, Object ADODBRecordSet) at ScriptMain.CreateNewOutputRows() at UserComponent.PrimeOutput(Int32 Outputs, Int32[] OutputIDs, PipelineBuffer[] Buffers) at Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Pipeline.ScriptComponentHost.PrimeOutput(Int32 outputs, Int32[] outputIDs, PipelineBuffer[] buffers)
I used adodb connection and recordset in script task. but i have an error saying adodb is not defined. how do i add it to reference? or, is adodb can run in script task or only ado.net?
I have an application which runs successfully on a couple of my customer's machines but fails on a third. It seems to fail when opening the database:
Unable to cast COM object of type 'ADODB.CommandClass' to interface type 'ADODB._Command'. This operation failed because the QueryInterface call on the COM component for the interface with IID '{B08400BD-F9D1-4D02-B856-71D5DBA123E9}' failed due to the following error: No such interface supported (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80004002 (E_NOINTERFACE)). Provider=SQLOLEDB.1;Integrated Security=SSPI;Persist Security Info=false; Initial Catalog=lensdb;Data Source = SQL
Before I got this error I was getting another problem (sorry didn't make a copy of that error's text) that made me think that adodb.dll simply wasn't loaded/registered. I got rid of that error by copying my adodb.dll onto the third machine and running gacutil /i. There is now an entry in winntassemblies for adodb.
Just in case you think it could be an obvious registry problem: when I started getting the current error I thought that maybe the registry needed updating and I merged the following lines into onto the target machine (from my dev machine):
Hi I need help regarding ADODB Connection that i have used in connecting database in my web application, do tell me is this connection type is ok? or I need to switch to ADO.NET Connection.
I hope someone has seen this one...I've got a very simple web method that returns a DataTable from my database. It worked fine until I changed this line of code:
string SqlString = @"SELECT Timestamp, Confession FROM Confessions WHERE ConfessionID = ? ORDER BY Timestamp desc";
To this line of code:
string SqlString = @"SELECT Timestamp, Confession FROM Confessions WHERE ConfessionID = ? AND CategoryID = ? ORDER BY Timestamp desc";
Here is the complete webmethod:
[WebMethod] public DataTable GetConfession (int ConfessionID, int CategoryID) {
DataTable dt = new DataTable(); dt.TableName = "XMLConfession";
string SqlString = @"SELECT Timestamp, Confession FROM Confessions WHERE ConfessionID = ? AND CategoryID = ? ORDER BY Timestamp desc";
using (OleDbConnection cn = new OleDbConnection (ConnectionString)) { using (OleDbCommand cmd = new OleDbCommand (SqlString, cn)) {
return dt; } To cause the error, all I did was add the AND statement into the query. Now I get this .NET error message every time I try to run this program:
System.Web.Services.Protocols.SoapException: Server was unable to process request. ---> System.AccessViolationException: Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt. at System.Data.Common.UnsafeNativeMethods.ICommandWithParameters.SetParameterInfo(IntPtr cParams, IntPtr[] rgParamOrdinals, tagDBPARAMBINDINFO[] rgParamBindInfo) at System.Data.OleDb.OleDbCommand.ApplyParameterBindings(ICommandWithParameters commandWithParameters, tagDBPARAMBINDINFO[] bindInfo) at System.Data.OleDb.OleDbCommand.CreateAccessor() at System.Data.OleDb.OleDbCommand.InitializeCommand(CommandBehavior behavior, Boolean throwifnotsupported) at System.Data.OleDb.OleDbCommand.ExecuteCommand(CommandBehavior behavior, Object& executeResult) at System.Data.OleDb.OleDbCommand.ExecuteReaderInternal(CommandBehavior behavior, String method) at System.Data.OleDb.OleDbCommand.ExecuteReader(CommandBehavior behavior) at System.Data.OleDb.OleDbCommand.System.Data.IDbCommand.ExecuteReader(CommandBehavior behavior) at System.Data.Common.DbDataAdapter.FillInternal(DataSet dataset, DataTable[] datatables, Int32 startRecord, Int32 maxRecords, String srcTable, IDbCommand command, CommandBehavior behavior)
I am using SQL Server Compact Edition 3.5 and C# .NET 2.0. It's worth noting that the web service does this outside of the program as well, so I don't think the problem is in the code that calls it. Also worth noting is that the query itself works fine when I substitute values in and run it in .NET Server Explorer.
Hello everyone,I face currently a problem where I could need some input for searchingthe source of the ProblemSystem: SQL Server 9.0I fill from Database A with triggers Database B, everything worksfine.On Database B there is a Stored Procedures that checks the records andadd additional information accordingly, this Stored Procedures isnormally called by the application on "update and insert" in theaccording table.When I try to call this Stored Procedures from the Database A, thetrigger does not work anymore, even if I do a try catch over the wholetrigger, he never reach the Catch and the insert I try to do there toget the error message.On both Databases the user, that is taken to execute the trigger isexistent and DB-Owner of both Databases.If I go and execute the Stored Procedures manually after an insert orupdate to Database B everything works fine.I also already tried to check on Database B if there is an insert orupdate from Database A and if, to execute the Stored Procedures, withthe same result, nothing and all happens anymore, neither update onDatabase A and also not on Database B.And also I cant catch the error as the Try/Catch is not working.Hope I could explain it understandable and maybe someone remembersalready having the same problem.Thanks & Best regardsPascal
I am working on a school project and have come up against a bit of a sticking point. I am supposed to be creating a very basic OMS, the teacher themselves have said they do not know how to do this (in previous years it has all be done via Access) but apparently I am a lucky one to be doing it in SQL this year.
One of the user requirements of the OMS is to fill a data grid with product name and the product details which I have the query for or rather I have created a view for, which is then queried from a stored procedure.
CREATE VIEW [dbo].[v_stock] AS SELECT tab_products.productname, tab_productdetails.description, tab_productdetails.image, tab_productdetails.price, tab_productdetails.stock FROM tab_productdetails INNER JOIN tab_products ON tab_productdetails.productid = tab_products.productid
The problem I am having is then returning the data from this query into a data grid, I think the reason is because when I attached the stored procedure to a table and then call that procedure via the table adapter there is a mismatch of the schema - specifically the table it is attached to does not contain the column "productName".
I am thinking I need to create a temporary table to fill the data grid with - however, I am not sure how I would create a temporary table.
Is there something I am missing or not done correctly. As far as I can tell the queries work as when I preview them they produce the expected results.
hi i have a table with Id and otehr fields,ID is autogenerate with datatype int. But now i want to generate an Id in AU001 format and then want to insert into table where it must be autogenerate.How to do this. Please help me with the problem,its very urgent....
I have a database with a couple of tables i need to expand to 4 gigabytes in order to run some tests. (currently 300 megs) Does anyone have a script or some method that would quickly populate my tables with random data so that i can grow my database to the desired size for testing.
Thanks
I have SQL server 2005 express. I have the management studio installed too.
Hello guys! I am relavtively new to ASP.NET programming ang was just starting out on my first project. I am using ASP.NET2.0 technology by using Visual Web Developer 2005 Express Edition and of course with SQL 2005 Express Edition. I would like to develop a database for our IP addresses, so one field of my table in a SQL data is the field for IP addresses.I would like to write a program wherein after clicking the button, that field will be automatically filled up with IP addresses (e.g, from 192.168.0.0 to 192.168.0.255).How do I accomplish this kind of dynamic filling up of fields? Thanks a lot!
I am working with some data that is not so clean. I have some rows that are Very close to being a duplicate row. I need to take all the rows with the same SKU number and fill in the missing data for the Price, Cost or the SalePrice, what ever may be missing. The data is set like @Diamonds MissingData and I need the row to look like @DiamondsWithData table. I can remove the duplicate values once I get the missing data filled in.
create table t1 ( oid int identity(1, 1), f tinyint )
and need way to fill it as fast as possible with say 100000 sequential values. Field f may stay = 0 but oid should be raising from row to row. How can I do it in MSSQL 2000?
I have three queries that I use to determine what the party type of a person.
They will be either a child, family member or an associated party and I need to go to three different tables to find this out. I set a field "relationship" to child, family member or associated party depending on the query results.
I would like to fill a temp table with the results so I can use it in reporting.
Here is my code:
Code: SELECTvap.partyID, relationship INTO#Relationship SELECTvap.partyID, Relationship = 'Child' FROMVolunteerActivityParty vap JOIN VolunteerActivity va ON va.VolunteerActivityID = vap.VolunteerActivityID JOIN
The tables in my database somehow are getting set with a fill factor of 90. In the properties of the server/Database Setting, the "Fixed" option is unchecked. Last Friday, I reset the each table to have a fill factor of zero, but when I came in today, the tables reset themselves to having a fill factor = 90. Any ideas of why this is happening and how I can stop this? Your help is greatly appreciated.
I have a small question here is below how my data look

I thought I'd post this quick problem and answer, as I couldn't find the answer when searching for it. I tried to call a stored procedure on SQL Server 2000 using the System.Data.SqlClient objects, and was not expecting any unusual issues. However when I came to call the Fill method I received the error "Arithmetic overflow error converting expression to data type int." My first checks were the obvious ones of verifying that I'd provided all the correct datatypes and had no unexpected null values, but I found nothing out of order. The problem turns out to be a difference on the maximum values for integers between C# and SQL Server 2000. Previously having hit issues with SQL Server integers requiring Long Integer types in VB6, I was aware that these are 32-bit integers, so I was passing in Int32 variables. The problem was that Int32.MaxValue is not a valid integer for SQL Server. Seeing as I was providing an abitrary upper value for records-per-page (to fetch all in one page), I was simply able to change this to Int16.MaxValue and will hit no further problems as this is also well beyond any expected range for this parameter. If anyone can name off the top of their heads what value should be provided as a maximum integer for SQL Server 2000, this might be a useful addition, but otherwise I hope this spares others some hunting if they also experience this problem. It's well known issue, that one can't use any dataset fields in a report header/footer directly. One of the approach is to create query-based parameter that basically equals =First(Fields!@FieldName@.Value, "@DataSetName@") and use that parameter value instead. But it doesn't work in my case!
My report displays some entity description and is parametrized with EntityID param. Its header contains entity name that, according to the approach, is queried from the data source through the EntityName report parameter. There's important issue: the report is displayed in ReportViewer control, that is embedded into my application and entity ID parameter isn't ser by user in ReportViewer parameters area. Its default value is changed by the application with SetReportParameters() web method every time a user wants to view the report according to the entity the user is exploring in the application. But after the report has been rendered, its header always contains not actual (outdated) entity name. Nevertheless, the report body contains actual data (including entity name). If I alter entity ID parameter in ReportViewer or in web-based Report Manager and refresh report, header displays correct entity name.
In my VB 2005 Express, I created a Windowds Form application "shcDataSet" that used 1 SqlConnection, 1 SqlDataSet and 3 SqlDataAdapters associated with the Northwind Database in my SQL Server Management Studio Express. The SqlConnection had "User Instance" in the following ConnectionString: Data Source=.SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename="C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.1MSSQLDataorthwnd.mdf";Integrated Security=True;Connect Timeout=30;User Instance=True. The 3 SqlDataAdapters were for the Northwind files "Customers", "Orders" and "Order Details" used in the SQLDataSet "AllOrders" with a AllOrders.xsd file. I ran the "shcDataSet" applicatyion and it worked fine. After the execution of "shcDataSet", I checked the Northwind database in my SQL Server Management Studio Express and clicked on "+" in front of Northwind database-I did not see any file showed up and I got the following error message: Failed to retrieve data for this request. (Microsoft.SqlServer.Express.SmoEnum) Additional information: one or more files do not match the primary file of the database. If you are attempting to attach a database, retry the operation with the correct files. If this is an existing database, the file may be corrupted and should be restored from a backup. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error:5173). If I executed the "shcDataSet" application again, I got a new error: SqlException was unhandled - Cannot open user default database. Login failed. Login failed for user 'myPC##myName' ------->daCustomers.Fill(AllOrders11, "Customers"). I have 3 questions to ask: (1) How can I re-install the Northwind database in SQL Server Management Studio Express? (2) When I use the .Fill Method, do I have to tell the SQL Server Management Studio Express to load and/or unload the Northwind files "Customers", "Orders" and "Order Details"? (3) After I executed the "shcDataSet", should I Upload the 3 Northwind files back to the SQL Server Management Studio Express? Please help and advise. Thanks, Scott Chang
