We have a MS Access .adp app which is having some security problems. We have a windows global group which is a user - which is added to a role. The developers are having problems with unqualified sql statements trying to find user.table instead of dbo.table. It seems we are not able to specify a default schema for the global 'user' - the option is greyed out and a sql statement fails. MS says:
Default Schemas
A default schema is used to resolve the names of securables that are referred to without their fully qualified names. In SQL Server 2000, name resolution first checks the schema owned by the calling database user, followed by the schema owned by dbo.
In SQL Server 2005, each user has a default schema. The default schema can be set and changed by using the DEFAULT_SCHEMA option of CREATE USER or ALTER USER. If DEFAULT_SCHEMA is left undefined, the database user will have dbo as its default schema.
Is the default truly undefined in a global group user? We are not totally locked in to the global group solution, but it does make admin easier for us.
Hello, In NT MS suggests putting global groups into local groups and then assigning object permissions to those local groups in NTFS. I was wondering if this pattern should be followed in SQL server when assigning permissions to integrated login accounts. Is it better to use global groups or local groups?
I created a Windows Group in Active Directory ("Database1Users"). populated it with users, and planned to allow everyone in it to have access to a sql 2005 database.
I went to the sql server, Security (at the general level), Logins, New login, and created the Login "<domain name>Database1Users". I assigned "Database1" as Default database, selected the database and assigned it to the above user name (which is actually a group name). I also typed in a default schema of "dbo" and gave the user account the role "db_owner" (just learning....) . Pressing OK gave me this error message:

Oh..... how am I supposed to map a Windows group to give the users the access they need?
I have a new SQL 2005 (SP2) Reporting Services server to which I've just upgraded and deployed some SSRS 2000 reports.
I have a subreport that contains a matrix with two groups. The report data seems to be inexplicably repeating the data for the first row in the group for all rows in the group. Example:
ID1 ID2 DisplayData
1 1 A
1 2 B
1 3 C
2 1 A
2 2 B
2 3 C
Parent group is on ID1, child group is on ID2, report would show:
1 1 A
2 A
3 A
2 1 A
2 A
3 A
Is this a matrix bug in 2005 SP2, or do I need to do something differently? I can no longer pull a comparison version from an SSRS 2000 server to verify, but I believe it was working as expected before...

I am using Vista Business with Visual Web Developer and Sql Server Express 2005. I want to be able to access the data from two tables in a query. Both tables are attached to the application. Using Web Matrix I made and tested a query using the Sql wizard acessing a SQL server table and it worked fine. Web Matrix created the following connection string, in the function to create the query : "server='(local)'; trusted_connection=true; database='AVAL_360'" But when the function created to execute the same query,my application then the following error showed up. I currently have an issue trying to access my database in SQLexpress2005. Whenever i try to start the service it errors out. I looked at the error in event viewer and it says says "The log scan number passed out to log scan in database 'master' is not valid. This error my indicate data corruption or that the ldf does not match the mdf....."

Recently I recreated my db on the server of my hosting company (in sql server 2005 express).I basically recreated the tables and copied the data in it.I now receive the following error when I hit the DB:The 'System.Web.Security.SqlMembershipProvider' requires a database schema compatible with schema version '1'. However, the current database schema is not compatible with this version. You may need to either install a compatible schema with aspnet_regsql.exe (available in the framework installation directory), or upgrade the provider to a newer version.I heard something about running aspnet_regsql.exe, but I dont have that access to the DB. Also I dont know if this command does anything more than creating the membership tables and filling it with some default data...Any other solutions/thought on what this can be?Thanks!

I would like to use SSIS tool to move the data from one database schema to another database schema.

Source table has

Destination table has

In the properties for a DTS package, I have a string variable. I need to execute an update statement based on this variable. I was going to use Execute SQL, but I didn't know now to get a value from the variables section.
I store the value there because I will be using dtsrun or the DTS library to execute the package, which I can change this value upon execution. How do I execute an update based on the value?
