HELP: Newbie Install. Can't Register Server.
Dec 19, 1998
I have installed SQL6.5 on my NT4.0 server.
I go into the enterprise manager. There are currently no registered servers. I try to add a server under the SQL 6.5 group and get the following message:
"Unable to connect to Server(reason [SQL Server Login failed]. Register Anyway?"
The service is running. I can login through the command prompt, but when I type select @@servername it comes back as NULL.
I have tried both my NT SA account as well as the SQLExecutiveCmdExec account. TIA - pwb

I tried to install SQL Server 2005 in a fresh installed Windows 2003 SP2. And this server is a workgroup member, not a member of a domain.
The services (Database service, integration service, reporting services and so on) work fines, but the other components, such as SQL XML 6.0 , SQL Server management Studio cannot be installed. And I have tried several times on a fresh-installed windows 2003 sp2.
I checked the log, I found the following error,The SQL Network Interface library could not deregister the Service Principal Name (SPN) for the SQL Server service. Error: 0x54b. Administrator should deregister this SPN manually to avoid client authentication errors.
2007-11-18 15:40:59.35 Server The SQL Network Interface library could not deregister the Service Principal Name (SPN) for the SQL Server service. Error: 0x54b. Administrator should deregister this SPN manually to avoid client authentication errors.
Then the installation existed with the error message "There was an unexpected failure during the setup wizard. You may review the setup logs and/or click the help button for more information. ".
I never had this problem and this time, I really got the trouble and do not have solution.
Who have ever encounter this problem? Or someone can help me?
Thanks.

Hi , all Microsoft BI experts here,
Thanks for your kind attention.
I am having a question as stated in the subject title, yes, when we want to deploy scorecards to reporting services, as the prerequisite, how can we install and register the scorecard custom data processing extension with the Microsoft reporting services server?
I am looking forward to hearing from you shortly and thank you again.
With best regards,
Yours sincerely,

I want to install SQL Server so at least the tables are stored on a D: drive rather than the default C: drive. If I can get the whole thing there, it would be best.
While installing S.S. the first time, I only came across one place to change a directory. After changing it, tables were still placed on the C: drive.
I am working with SQL Server 2005 Standard edition and using default settings, except for the directory of course.
Thanks for your help.

In attempting to perform a "typical desktop" install to an NT 4.0 workstation,
install fails to register about 10 DLLs.
i.e. dtspkg.dll, dtspump.dll, msrpjt40.dll, dbscan.dll
As best as I know, the msrpjt40.dll already existed and had a version date of
11-11-98 9:51 P.M.
While the SQLSTP.LOG shows me they failed to register, I don't know why
they failed to register.
Any ideas, comments, etc. would be appreciated.
Thanks!!

Hello,
I am admittedly new to this, especially sql server and am in need of a pro's assistance.. I installed Microsoft Small Business accounting, which in turn installed and configured a sql server. When I installed ACT! 2005 (v7.0) and tried to create a database, it states that it cannot find the master file.... so I tried to install sql server from Microsofts site - downloaded all the packages, unzipped them and ran them... the error I get is that the sql server needs to have an sa password and to use some switch to change it... for the life of me I am lost here. I can't use ACT! at this point and I have not ideas of how to remove, reinstall or repair the sql server.... Any help you can provide would be greatly appreicated!

Hi,
I've just set up a new installation of SQL 7 in a WinNT4/sp5 machine so I can learn more about this stuff and I'm trying to configure a Win98 client. From the Win98 client all looks well on the surface. Interestingly when I click on the server from within the Win98 MMC/Enterprise Manager it attempts to establish a dial-up connection to my ISP. The only network protocol I have running is TCP/IP.
Also, I can do what ever I want from within Enterprise Manager and SQL Analyzer but if I attempt to execute a script using the OSQL utility at a dos prompt as follows
osql /Usa /P /i "c:sqlimplexercisech02myscript2.sql"
I get the following error
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][TCP/IP Sockets]General network error.
Check your network documentation.
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][TCP/IP Sockets]ConnectionOpen (connect()).
Any clues as to what I need to do to straighten this out? I have a DSN for the server which tests successfully using TCP/IP on the default port 1433.

Here's what I'm going for:
I have an 05 VB.NET windows application that will be used as a smart client for our folks in the field. The windows application includes 05 SQL Server Express. I have included in the Data Sources of my project and attached file going through the wizard Microsoft SQL Server Database File (SqlClient) ='s (myfile.mdf) and then selected all tables, views, stored procedures, and functions... the corresponding myfileDataSet.xsd with the myfile.mdf are now located in the root of the project. I now recompile the project without error and go to the properties section Publish tab... select the Application Files button and myfile.mdf Publish Status is set to Include and the Download Group set to Requried. With this in place I right click on the myfile.mdf from the Soultion Explorer and under the properties section have set the build action to compile and use the copy always setting for the Copy to Output Directory.
My app.config looks like this:
<configSections>
<sectionGroup name="userSettings" type="System.Configuration.UserSettingsGroup, System, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089" >
<section name="myfile.My.MySettings" type="System.Configuration.ClientSettingsSection, System, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089" allowExeDefinition="MachineToLocalUser" requirePermission="false" />
</sectionGroup>
</configSections>
<connectionStrings>
<add name="myfile.My.MySettings.ffgscrmConnectionString" connectionString="Data Source=.SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename=|DataDirectory|myfile.mdf;Integrated Security=True;Connect Timeout=30;User Instance=True"
providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />
</connectionStrings>
After the publish is completed on the client machine... install for WIndows Installer 3.1, SQL Server Express, and the Windows Application contains no data but everything else works fine.
My problem is that I need to attach the myfile.mdf to the new SQL Server Express instance on the client machine during the installation process so that when the application fires it will be pointed to the above location on the client.
Anyone have any ideas... scripts... includes for an ApplicationEvents.vb, source code on how to do this correctly?
Kind regards,
BillB

Hello,
I am kind of new with .Net development and really new with using SqlExpress. Here is my question, I hope it is easy:
I have a shareware program that I have been selling since 2000 and it was written in VB6 using a third party database program. What I would like to do is rewrite this application using C# and SqlServer Express. The program as it stands right now is about 5mb to download and install.
My concerns:
1) How do I embed and quietly install sqlserver express to the end user's computer without them having any intervention?
2) By using sqlserver express as my database how much extra overhead is going to be included in the install package? I want to keep the install package as small as possible and the user experience of installing the program as painless as possible.
Thanks in advance,

When converting from 6.5 to 7 the Servers I had registered under 6.5 were still available. When I try to connect to them the old 6.5 Enterprise Manager starts up and I really like this ability.
I would like to register a new 6.5 Server while running 7.0
I'm developing on 7.0 and thus would like to keep my machine running 7, but need to add 6.5 servers on occasion. Any suggestions.
(I think if I switch to 6.5 and register that will work, but don't want to switch)

I loaded a microsoft SQL server training CD. When i go to enterprise manager i am prompted for a server. I checked the online books and it says that i should use the compter name. This does not work. My dialog box that i am using to enter the computer name, logon ID, and password is titled connect server. The documented information has Register server for the title of the dialog box. Is there a difference? What am i doing wrong? I am not able to connect the server at all. This is a training disk and is only good for 120 days. I am running out of time and i have not even started.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Really would like some help from anyone who has experienced this problem.
I installed SQL server v6.5 on my machine. I selected communication options TCP/IP and Named Pipes and took all the other defaults. After receiving the `installed ok` message, I went on to register the server and received the following msg.
A connection cannot be established to A0194876 [DB Library] Unable to
connect. SQL server is unavailable or does not exist.
My machine name is, A0194876. I have tried changing the machine name, rebooting, etc. but nothing works.

Hello,
We are facing problems in registering server in MS-SQL Server 6.5.
We are getting CODE EXCEPTION error. We tried unistalling SQL Server
and Re-Installing again. In spite of this, it is still giving the same error.
We happen to change the HOST name of the NT Server m/c on which
the SQL Server resides once.
What could have possibly gone wrong. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Howdy,
I installed SQL Server 2000 (Standard Edition) on my desktop running Win2K Pro. During installation, a message indicated that only the client tools could be installed on this version (I assume it was referring to Win2K Pro). No errors were encountered during installation.
Now, I am trying to figure out how to get started working with SQL Server 2000. I opened the Enterprise Manager and have tried to register a SQL Server using the wizard to register a SQL Server. I then selected my computer name under the available servers list and then chose Windows Authentication to connect. On the next wizard screen I then chose to add the SQL Server to the default group name (SQL Server Group). After clicking on the Finish button, the Status block on the last screen indicates "SQL Server does not exist or access denied."
Any idea what's happening? What am I doing wrong?
TIA.

Hi all,
I'm having difficulty with registering a new SQL server across
a network. I'm guessing it's something to do with the authentication method, but as of yet I can't get it to work.
I recieve the message
"Login failed for user 'computername/Guest' "
Curiously, doing things the other way round (registering this server on the other one across the network) works absolutely fine, and as far as I can tell I have them set up exactly the same.
Any help would be very much appreciated!

Hi, here is my problem
I am trying to conncet to an SQL Server that is on the net. The name of the server looks like : sqlServer.TheCompanyOwingIt.Com and it listens to port 2433
I am opening enterprise manager and trying to connect ,giving the name of the server and the credentials but no luck. I also tried opening hte client Network utility , created an alias for that server, specifying 2433 as the port but no luck again. Finally i tried to change the port of my sql server to be 2433 (instead of 1433), no luck again !!! Any ideas ? (there is no firewall running on the PC, but there is a router which might (?) cause the problem ? (i tried to port forward 2433 , but i am not sure if i did it correctly).
Any ideas, suggestions will be greatly appreciated
Thx in advance

I am using a Linkysys router and I have opened up the ports that SQL Server needs but I am getting an error - "SQL Server does not exist or Access denied". I've contacted the support but they are telling me it is an error on my end.
Has anyone experienced this issue before?

Hi all,
I am having seriuos problems getting VoIP traffic into and out of my network via the ISA server which we just newly installed.
My network topology is such that the phones i am using for the VoIP service, sitting inside my network and behind the ISA server, have to register to some remote proxy server outside my network and as soon as it registers i can begin using the service. The VoIP service is on the platform of SIP and uses udp ports 5060 and 8080.
I have permitted the necessary ports on the ISA server for the service being UDP port 5060 and 8080 but still cannot get my VoIp traffic through the server.
Please i need some help here as regards something i am supposed to do or something i am not doing right on the ISA server to permit my traffic.
I am a newbie to this Microsoft ISA server and i hope you all understand
Thanks in anticipation to your replies.

I want to create a database on my local machine and work with it. But I am not able to see the name of my local server under "Database Engine" in the list of "Registered Servers".
Options I tried:
(1) In Registered Servers window, On Database Engine, I right clicked and in that selected "Update Local Server Registration"
(2) In Registered Servers window, On Database Engine, I right clicked and in that selected "New" -> Server Registration.
In "New Server Registration" Window, in "Server Name" drop down I clicked "Browse for more" but still in "Browse for Servers" window, I am not able to see the name of my local server in "Local Servers" tag under Database Engine.
(3) If I do File -> Connect Object Explorer -> Connect to Server window in "Server name" drop down box, if I click "Browse for more", I am able to see local server name eg. "XYZ" under Analysis Services, Reporting Services, and Integration Services but not under "Database Engine"
Please help me create a new database engine in SQL Server 2005 or list my local server under "Database engine" ?
Thanks
