I have a current table which I create on a regular basis from a text file with a layout similar to this: TypePolicy #AmountRider 1 AmtRider 2 Amt B1112H24.341212.34
This text file is brought into a staging table with each field (even the amount field) as a varchar (12). I then assign types in a later step in my DTS package.
What I need to do is stack the riders under each policy so for each policy where there is a rider, there is a new row for every rider. So in the example I've given, there would be 2 additional rows for the original first row since there are two riders. TypePolicy #Amount B1112H24.34 R11112H12 R21112H12.34
I plan on doing this by first creating a table with just the Type, Policy #, and Amt fields, and then using a series of insert queries where I take the rider (if there is one) and append it onto the table.
However, I'm getting the following error message when I try: Server: Msg 213, Level 16, State 4, Line 1 Insert Error: Column name or number of supplied values does not match table definition.
Basically, it wouldn't let me put an 'R1' in the Type column. How can I get this to work!?!?

I tried with UNPIVOT but it does not allow it (I'm using Navicat 8), saying "You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near UNPIVOT...".

I have a dataset with 2 fields : code and value. I have a parameter that will give me the data to insert into the table I want to make. The number of rows is not fixed, so I couldn't create, for example, a table with a fixed number of rows.

and it'll go like this until I've used all the data.

Hi I am trying to convert foxpro database table example mytable.dbf in to MSSQL Database table. I have created odbc connection to foxpro database, Then i have created an data set in which i have fill the mytable (stucture and data) by odbc adapter. Now i want to import this Data Set in to the sql database. For some reason, I am supposed to import this data into a temp table and then move it to the original table and I have to convert it to the right data types while I do this. I have imported a table into SQL Server from a legacy program. Each record has a repeating sequence of similar fields. (Ex. Accnt1, Assesed1, Paid1, Accnt2, Assesed2, Paid2, etc.) I would like to take a single record and put data from these fields into a table that has the columns Accnt, Assesed, and Paid. I am doing this for easier use in a program I am developing in VB 2005. Can this be done in SQL or do I need to have help from some VB code? If it's possible, what might the SQL look like?
i have 12 different sql server tables. all are binded to one gridview. i have kept one admin user to view the details of the 12 tables in a gridview (pagesize=5). now the admin wants to generate 12 CSV files from the 12 tables (that is, he has to choose the table name from a dropdown and then has to click "Generate" button. CSV file name should be like this "<table_name>_<date>" ). also want to put links(dynamically [after generation of those csv files]) in a separate page to download those csv files. how to do this in asp.net (C#)? its urgent.

i want to convert the rows of one table to be the column of another table in run time......i have two tables one having student id and name and in another table there are student id, marks and subject as english. hindi and maths in rows...i want to make another a third table which contains student id , name , marks as english, hindi, maths as the column....tried a lot but didnt get the right way...do we have to do it through Join or is there some other technique by which we can solve the query........i dont know wheather i am really informative or not..but am sitting online if incase you wanna know something else even..........
