Is it possible to generate mulitple reports from parameter? what I want is for example: I have a report with a sales orders table, it has 2 input parameter fields; two dates to make up a date range. If the date range is between yesterday and today, I will get two reports (two reports with two different total page number); one is for yesterday and one is for today.
I did some research on resetting the total page, but their solution doesnt work on my special case (very complicate..). A similiar work out also apperciate.
I am looking for some examples of code for an appliction which will let run RS reports from a custom application. The user will choose the reports from a menu structure
We have an exiting application which we use to run crystal reports which we are going to be migrating to RS. We use custom web controls to capture the required parameter values for the reports, and hope to reuse the same controls (with minimal rework) to capture the parameters values for the RS reports.
What I am after is some code which will
a) let me run the report and display it. I don't want to display the report parameters in the URL etc as we generate some report parameter values based upon the user's ID and do NOT want them displayed back to the users
b) export the report to PDF, CSV etc depending upon the option chosen by the user.
The application will be developed in VS 2005 - VB. Does any one know of some links to some sample code
I am using SS 2005 RS. I am able to generate single page pdf reports by passing "id" as a parameter. Now I need to send multiple ids as parameter and generate one big report which would contain reports for all the ids supplied on separate pages. Is this possible? If yes, then how do i do this.
What I have tried so far is, I created new report with a list control and added single page report as a subreport to this list control and grouped this list control using id parameter. When i send multiple ids in the parameter, for example 3 ids, it generates 3 page report but only for the first id. So it generates report for the first id and repeats same report 3 times.
I am generating a Report by using SSRS. I am making using use of SSRS Report Viewer control for displaying the report. Which has an option to export the generated report in PDF format. Instead of displaying the report in by using report viewer I want to generate it directly in PDF format whenever that report is selected from the list of reports. So is there is any way to generate the report directly in PDF format which prompt a pop up for opening or saving the PDF?
Hi everyone, I am working with SSRS 2000, and I have 2 reports that are linked with a hyperlink. Well, one is the report with all the data (numbers, months, etc) and the second one is a Chart with all the information. Well, both have a parameter, that prompts the part #. I want to know, how can I get both reports to run with one parameter only. For example, the first report with the data, fill in the parameter (part#), and when click on the hyperlink to have the Chart (second report) automatically fill in the part # that was typed in the first report so it can display the information. I know excell does it, but how can I do this with SSRS?
I have one master report and 4 linked reports. I deployed a report and set defaults for BeginDate and EndDate as =Today(). I have 4 linked reports that I need to change the date parameters for each. For instance the first linked reports needs to be BeginDate =Today() and the EndDate as =Today()+30. So in my linked report, I tried to change the EndDate to =Today()+30 and an error, 'The value provided for the report parameter 'BeginDate' is not valid for its type.'
So I can't put =Today() or =Today()+30 in the parameters once I override the defaults. Can someone tell me what I'm missing here?
I have bunch of reports that take same set of parameters. I am trying parametrize the report type so that depending on the report type selected, body should display that report when user hits "View report" button. How can I do this? Pardon me if there is an obvious solution as I am pretty new to the joys of MS Reporting Services.
We have timed-based subscriptions set up for our standard set of 10 client reports which run monthly with the appropriate parameters set for each of our clients. Our management has requested that we provide them with the ability to run the set of 10 reports together at will. So we would provide the client parameter and all 10 reports would be generated. What is the recommended approach to accomplish this? We are using Sql Server 2005, Visual Studio 2003 and .Net 2.0.
I've seen some theads on this but cant seem to get this right. Report A has 5 parameters 2 of them are multi value-- when I click on part of Report A I want to jump to report B and pass all parameter values from report A. The single value ones work but multi value only passes on value and not all values selected-- what am I missing here? Do I need to pass the values in the multi value parameters in an array??

Under My Subscriptions I have a report that runs daily. This report allows me to select certain items from a dropdown in parameter fields or select all. Some days the report fails and I get the follow error: The subscription contains parameter values that are not valid. When I click Edit to review, the parameter field is blank and my selections have been unselected. This report has several parameter fields but only only one or two of the parameter fields are blank, the others are ok.
I'm trying to create a report that will be data-driven and produce multiple reports based on a parameter. For example, 5 reports go out today based on invoice numbers from yesterday. Each invoice can have multiple trasnsaction lines and each line contains the invoice number. What I have so far is only taking the first invoice number (let's say it has 10 transactions) and sending me the same report 10 times and stopping.
I get nothing for the remaining 4 invoices/reports. Here is what I have. To me this should enter the distinct invoice no's from yesterday into #temp, while a invoice no exiists begin query with one invoice selected from #temp then delete that invoice no and select another one and repeat till no more invoice no's. But it's only going through the one invoice no.

I am trying to join two tables on multiple fields. But the nulls aren't considered a match so they aren't included in the results set.
Select A.Lot, A.Block, A.Plan, B.Key from A join B on A.Lot=B.Lot A.Block=B.Block A.Plan=B.Plan
In the data, there can be an instance where Block is null in both tables so it "matches" but not in SQL. How do I get the "matched" nulls to be returned as well?
Update the taskname as 'projectname' + '_' + 'workname' for any projectid. projectname and workname coming from the projectid and workid in the task record
so the task table becomes 1,project1_work1,1,1 2,project1_work2,1,2 3,project2_work3,2,3

I have a single .asp page that opens a connection and then sequentiallyopens and closes 14 recordsets from stored procedures to obtain variousproduct information before closing the connection.Is it common practice to do something like this? I need to update information for a user and if the user is classified as a primary (@blnPrimary) then I need to update information for all users within his agency (AgencyUniqueId). The issue is that the second UPDATE to "cdds_User_Profile" always returns a rowcount of 0 (should be 1) even though the values for "@Original_AgencyUniqueId" and "@Original_UserId" are correct. This is just a snippet of the whole procedure. I'm trying to implement similar logic in other parts of the procedure and I'm observing the same behavior there as well. Hey everyone, I am beggining in SQL and the .NET framework and have been running into some problems trying to design a relational database. I am completely new to it so I bought a book that was recommended in this Forum called "Handbook of Relational Database Design" and it has been pretty usefull so far. RIght now I am trying to make the Logical Data Model before I make the Relational Data Model. The problem that I am having right now is creating a table that is a derivation from another table. For example, in the book they have a table called Property, and then two other tables called MountainProperty and BeachProperty. MountainProperty and BeachProperty are a type (relationship here) of a property. So basically Property will hold some data in a table, and then MountainProperty and BeachProperty will extend that property to contain more specific data. This is very similar to what I want to do. However I am having a problem understanding how an instance (or row) in Property, will have a link (foreign key) to a piece of data that is in Mountain or BeachProperty. I understand the foreign key in Mountain and BeachProperty and how they will link back to their "parent". But how will Property know its children, where is the link for that, how can one make a link to that. You could make a column with a foreign key, but which table would it point to, can one column point to mulitple tables? That doesn't make very much sense to me. Basically what I am trying to say is that a row in the Property table can be multiple types, and these types will store more additional data about that row. How can I link to that data from that row in the Table Property. I am terribly sorry if this is confusing or if it is so appartently easy for you, but this is the first time that I have ever tried to make a relational database and I am really struggling on seeing how to organize these tables properly. I have a DLL that acts as an interface between the application and the database. So you create a new instance to the database via:
MyDatabaseClass db = new MyDatabaseClass()
Each instance of the class creates a new connection to the database.
So if I were to have the following, then 4 connections would be made.
MyDatabaseClass db1 = new MyDatabaseClass() MyDatabaseClass db2 = new MyDatabaseClass() MyDatabaseClass db3 = new MyDatabaseClass() MyDatabaseClass db4 = new MyDatabaseClass()
My question is...What if instead of creating new connections upon each instantiation, I re-use the same connection through a "ConnectionManager" class. In this way, the above code will only create 1 connection instead of 4.
What do you guys think about each approach? Obviously the 2nd approach makes sense for non-web applications, but what about websites? Would that just cause that single connection to be overloaded??

We shall be taking a bunch of 7.0 instances and moving/upgrading to a SQL 2000 cluster server. I was thinking of creating new named instances on the 2000 cluster and upgrading each 7.0 server to it's respective named instance. Also thought of using the 2000 copy database wizard; I was told this didn't always work. Anyone hear of problems with this? Thanks
