I'd like to know more about data warehouse. I've known some for SSIS working with SSAS. But it's existing data warehouse. I just transfer data to data warehouse using bussiness rules. I have no idea about data warehouse, how to design data warehouse from transactional database, how to generate the table structure. Any tips or books for that? Thank you very much.
Hi All, I am using scptxfr.exe to get the structure of a dababase. Problem is that its creating GRANT statements which I don't want. Also its selecting sysusers object. I have checked the parameters. My parameters look something like this: dos promptmssql7upgradescptxfr.exe /S(servername) -d (databasename) /P sa /f (filename) -r
How can I run this utility without creating grant statements? Any thoughts will help! Thank you in advance!
I have been working with DTC packages together with analysis service, and are now begining on SSIS.
But I have some demands that's been giving me headache before, so I hope there's a solution in the SSIS for the following.
My DTC packages was build to be executed i 5 steps/Packages
1. Transfeer data from my Oracle 9.2.0.4 to SQL 2000
2. Transform data
3. Quality check
4. Process dimension
5. Process cubes
BUT in 2005, I want a little more flexibilty. I want to execute smaller packages, let's say, only my "general ledger".
This way I will be able to update some of my important cubes quicker. And not wait until all data is transferred.
So what I have done until now is that I have created SSIS packages per module. I have a General_ledger.dtsx and a Sales.dtsx. Which I can execute separately.
I also have a MasterFlow.dtsx which contain an "Execute package Task" for each package.
I can run the MasterFlow and it will run through all packages once every night.
Each package contains
1. Truncate package tabels
2. Transfer package tabels
3. Execute dimensions data
4. Execute cubes
5. Process Dimensions
6. Process Cubes
Is this the best way?
I'm not satisfied myself because, when I run MasterFlow. I would like to execute all "step 1" in all packages, before "step 2" and so forth.
Then I would be sure that all data is OK when all Cubes are processed, if I have a virtual cube that contains data from 2 packages.
I have all the config files for my various packages in a folder call configs. It seems that I cannot add folders to the SSIS solution. I can add config files, but they get copied into the root folder, which breaks the directory structure that I have.
Am I missing something? Is there a recommended to manage config files, and other external files used by the SSIS package, in SourceSafe and in the SSIS solution? Thank you.
From last 1 week or so, i have been facing very strange problem with my sql server 2005s database which is configured and set on the hosting web server. Right now for managing my sql server 2005 database, i am using an web based Control Panel developed by my hosting company.
Problem i am facing is that, whenever i try to modify (i.e. add new columns) tables in the database, it gives me error saying that,
"There is already an object named 'PK_xxx_Temp' in the database. Could not create constraint. See previous errors. Source: .Net SqlClient Data Provider".
where xxx is the table name.
I have done quite a bit research on the problem and have also searched on the net for solution but still the problem persist.
Say I do File -> New -> Project and make a new project called RedApple under C:. For simplicy, I chose root, but I would designate location for all my SSIS projects. I also check the box "Create directory for solution".
I see that this creates C:RedApple
Under this, I have another RedApple directory with a .sln and .suo files. In this 2dn RedApple directory, I have .database, .dtproj, and .dtproj.user files.
I deleted the default package1, so I don't have any .dtsx files yet.
As far as the above files are concerned (.sln, .suo, .database, .dtproj, .dtproj.user), I understand these are some kind of system or meta data files and I shouldn't be messing around with them. And that's as far as I need to concern myself on these files.
As I add packages to my project, I see that it is creating .dtsx files under the 2nd RedApple directory. So, I'm thinking these are the package files, one for each package I see in my solution explorer, correct?
MY QUESTION: Now, I am looking at another SSIS directory tree for a project that I created before I started to pay attention to all this. In this other directory tree, I see that there is also a bin directory, which I do not yet have in C:RedAppleRedApple. In this bin directory I see more .dtsx files, the same ones as I see in the directory above it, but also other .dtsx files that have the names of other packages that I onoce created and deleted along the development of this particular project. What are these .dtsx files?
we have a table in our ERP database and we copy data from this table into another "stage" table on a nightly basis. is there a way to dynamically alter the schema of the stage table when the source table's structure is changed? in other words, if a new column is added to the source table, i would like to add the column to the stage table during the nightly refresh.
I have a SSIS package that simply moves data from a SQL database A to another SQL database B. I have update (increased) the size of a nvarchar column, on both A and B.I am wondering if there is a way to "refresh" somehow the SSIS package so I don't have to rebuild and redeploy it.The error I get now is a truncation error: "Text was truncated or one or more characters had no match in the target code page".
Hi allI have two tables in SqlServer with Exactly Same Structure,I want to Copy all Records fromone of them to another one.I came across to "Insert....select..." statement But i have two problem 1) I don't know any thing about Columns name!!! i just know they have same structure and as far as i know , "Insert...select..." need the Column list to operate correctly, am i right? 2) these two table have One Prinary Key column with IDENTITY feature. Any Help Greatly appriciated.Regards.
I'm new to SSIS and have a question about the best way to generate multiple Excel files with my current package design. I have a stored procedure that I run from an Execute SQL Task in a foreach loop container, and it generates results as appropriate for each of the parameters it loops through.
What's the best way to take the result set from each of those executions and generate an Excel file from each set? How do I map that result set variable to be the input for creating a new Excel file? Is this best done as a script task somehow?
Should I not be using SSIS for this task? I thought I would just create a package and schedule it to run daily with SQL Agent, and it would autogenerate the Excel files as needed.
I am trying to write a SSIS package to auto generate a SSRS PDF. I have tried several threads on the net but all seem to require a web service.I am using VS2012 and SQL2014..The report accepts one parameter @Licence
Structure Number1 Category: CategoryId(P.K.), UniqueName, CreatedDate, ModifiedDateCategoryNative: CategoryId(F.K.), LanguageId(F.K.), NativeName, Description, Importance, IsVisible, CreatedDate, ModifiedDate Structure Number2 Category: CategoryId(P.K.), UniqueName, CreatedDate, ModifiedDateCategoryNative: CategoryNativeId(P.K.), CategoryId(F.K.), LanguageId(F.K.), NativeName, Description, Importance, IsVisible, CreatedDate, ModifiedDate Can anyone tell me that between above 2 structure what is better and why? I just add CategoryNativeId(P.K.) in Number 2 structure.
How can I setup a table structure for the diagram shown in the attached bitmap?
1) I need to create a product using labour and materials. 2) I need to create hardware using labour and materials. 3) I need to be able to include some hardware in some products. 4) Some materials in the product are made of a culmination of materials. E.G., Concrete is made of sand, stone, and cement.
Any suggestions?
So far I have :
USE NORTHWIND
Create Table tbProducts ( ProductID int NOT NULL, Product varchar(50) )
go
ALTER TABLE tbProducts ADD CONSTRAINT tbProducts_pk PRIMARY KEY (ProductID) GO
CREATE Table tbMaterials ( MaterialID int NOT NULL, Material varchar (50) )
GO
ALTER TABLE tbMaterials ADD CONSTRAINT tbMaterials_pk PRIMARY KEY (MaterialID) GO
CREATE Table tbLabour ( LabourCode char (2) NOT NULL, Labour varchar(50) )
GO ALTER TABLE tbLabour ADD CONSTRAINT tbLabour_pk PRIMARY KEY (LabourCode) GO
CREATE Table tbProductMaterials ( fkProductID int NOT NULL, fkMaterialID int NOT NULL, Quantity Float NOT NULL )
GO ALTER TABLE tbProductMaterials ADD CONSTRAINT tbProductMaterials_pk PRIMARY KEY (fkProductID, fkMaterialID) GO
I'm new in creating tables. and I was asked to create table(s) to capture information using SQL server 2005 (express edition)
please read below and share your thoughts and opinions o what's the efficient and best way to structure the tables.
I need to capture user's input daily and every hour, text can be from 20-100 characters, and my company is expecting to have 50,000+users in the future...Also the hrs's text can be stored for max 120 days, after that data would be deleted from the table(s) An example is put all together, (not sure if it is the right and efficient way)
An example is put all together, (not sure if it is the rigth and effectient way) and if database would support that.. and if it will be fast enougth to search for data
(table structure) - (example with 3 users) userId | timestap | message 1 12/12/2007 10:00 some message 1 12/12/2007 11:00 some message 1 12/12/2007 12:00 some message 1 12/12/2007 13:00 some message 1 12/12/2007 14:00 some message 2 12/12/2007 10:00 some message 2 12/12/2007 11:00 some message 3 12/12/2007 12:00 some message 3 12/12/2007 13:00 some message 3 12/12/2007 14:00 some message ...etc..
Hi,I am new to XML and need a structure of table in XML format, which needsto be created as a table in another server. The Source and destinationservers are SQL Server 2000. Could anyone help me on this.Balaji.S.--Posted via http://dbforums.com
Hi, I have one field "Status" with 15 different types of values. Like 1, 2, 3, 4 .. 15. Now this Status field contains the values like this: Id Status 1 1,2 2 3 3 1,2,3 4 13,15
What is the best way to organize this information in SQLServer table? My idea is Create one table with the following volumns: ID, Status1, Status2, Status3, ... Status14, Status15.
Now the above data look like this: Id Status1 Status2 Status3 ... Status13 Status14 Status15 1 1 1 0 0 0 0 2 0 0 1 0 0 0 3 1 1 1 4 0 0 0 1 0 1
So, In future If they add new column they can easily add column like status16. And status table look like this Status StatusID Description 1 a 2 b .. 15
I am using a Data Flow task which copies data from an Excel Source to a SQL Database Table Destination. From 15 columns I require only 10 columns to be imported to the DB Table. So I have mapped those colums. In SQL DB there is a colum called say X, whose value should be the "Remedy" for all the columns which are imported. Is there any task that can achieve it.
I have a requirement, want to generate the PDF report from source data sql table records through SSIS package without using the SSRS tool. i came to know calling this SSRS report generate the PDF report. but my case without using the SSRS tool, needs to prepare the PDF report.
I have created a report using SSRS 2012. To create a pdf report, I use SSIS 2008. When I run debugging in SSIS, the pdf report is generated correctly.
But when I run the SSIS as a job in SQL 2012, the pdf report is generated with o bytes. When I tried to open it with Adobe, there is error, something like - Adobe Reader could not open PPAA.pdf because it is either not supported file type or because the file has been damaged.
I have a report that I'd like to involve in delivering tons of PDFs for each of our customers for a billing cycle. There is a table that the report reads from that gives it all its data necessary for the report (which is a customer bill) and the table also has a column that has the file name for the PDF for that particular customers bill for the report. Basically each table row represents one output report (bill) and each table row has its name nicely formated for me. Writing the report is not a problem. Figuring out how to run through thousands of rows generating a PDF for each with the file name from the table is my challenge.
I would like to create either a SP or a SSIS package (that is scheduled) that can run a report for each line of data in my table and spit out a PDF file to a UNC path. It might have to generate thousands of PDFs to a UNC path that has plenty of space. There will be another SSIS package that moves the PDFs later to their proper directory.
So, is there someone who has done this before? Any suggestions? Is there a quick path to doing this, would it take a ton of time? Any tutorials out there?
Thanks, Keith
p.s. My preference is to do this in SP's or SSIS and if I need a .NET language to do that in VB.NET, but I'd rather avoid that if I can.
All,On my aspx page i have 2 sets of checkboxlists, each with a number of items and i am storing that info in my db. currently i have my table set up this way: InfoID--PK autoUserID-intCheckBoxList1ID-intCheckBoxList2ID-int So a user can select more than 1 item in each checkbox, so this table will contain multiple user-ids and each id from the respective checkboxes. My question is, is there a better way to store this data? I hope this is clear, any input would be greatly appreciated.Thank you.
Hi,I have a table for storing my picture albums here it is:CREATE TABLE [UserAlbum] ( [ID] [int] IDENTITY (1, 1) NOT NULL , [UserID] [int] default(0) , [AlbumName] [nvarchar] (100) NULL , [Audience] [int] default(0) , [Date_added] [smalldatetime] NULL , CONSTRAINT PK_CmmNet_userAlbum_ID PRIMARY KEY CLUSTERED ( ID )) ON [PRIMARY]GO it has a field called "audience" as the name defines i want to choose who will see my albumsit is integer and as follows:0 value=everyone1=friends only2=private as i started to write a query for it i came into this problem: for exampleif i write SELECT * FROM UserAlbum where audience=1 then only friends can see the infowhat happens to everyone with value of 0?when i set it to 0, friends should also be able to see the info because it is set for everybody i noticed i should use "in cluase" like thisSELECT * FROM UserAlbum where audience in ('0','1') > so in this way both everyone and also friends can see the info or maybe i should add 3 different fields for private, public, friends it seems to be simple but at the same time harddoes anyone have a suggestion?
Hi i have a student table and also an societies table, and a student can belong to as many societies as possible, for example student John Taylor belongs to the Football society, rugby societey and dance society, where as student Jim Jenkins belongs to the Football society, rugby society, arts society and graphics society. My tables so far look like this; STUDENTS; student_id, student_name SOCIETIES; society_id, society_name
My question is how can i make the scenario above reflect in my table structure, would i need to create another table, if so what fields or columns should i place in this new table, thank you.
I'm a VB.net programmer working in an environment that doesn't have a true sql db administrator. We have a situation where we're thinking about adding a new database (db2) with the same Tables used in an existing database (db1). We were hoping to avoid this, but circumstances are forcing us to think about it. Are there any sql tools out there to maintain a dual-db like this? What are the main disadvantages to this?
