Report Builder - Data Model Based On User Id
Oct 18, 2007I am trying to develop a data model that will filter data based on the user logged in. SUSER_SNAME()
I have a list of User Id's in a look up table, a where clause in a view that filters the data based on who is logged in. This works fine and the data even seems to be filtered when I explore the data in the Data Source View. How ever when I publish the data model to the reporting services site and use report builder the user logged in is no longer recognized. All I am really trying to do is set up report builder so that users can generate reports and only have access to thier data via a customer number. I just can't allow users to see other users data and I don't want to set up a different datasource view for each user. Does any one have any experience with this?
Filter SqlDataSource Select Based On Membership User Name
Jul 11, 2006I am running into an issue trying to declaratively set up a SqlDataSource. I want to be able to filter some of my queries based on the user that is currently logged into the web site. I want to do it Declaratively as that's one of my favorite 2.0 features.Is there any way to do this with the Membership information? I know I can use the code behind to set the parameter, or store the User Name in Session Variable, and use a <asp:SessionParameter> but I think there should be a way to bind directly to the Membership user...Am I missing another option, or is there no built in way to do this? Any other suggestions...Thanks

I am trying to applying an data filter that will filter out user based on userid
Three tables:
tblPerson (fact table): contains over 1 million records with about 20 fields. One of the fields is called BureauID (int). BureauID indicates what Bureau the person works in for an given record.
tblBureau (attribute table) which has a FK relationship to tblPerson) contains the following fields:
BureauID int - this is the linked field to tbl person
Bureau Code varchar
Bureau ShortName varchar
The reason we use tblBureau as in attribute table instead of place the bureau code and short name directly into table Person is so that we index tbl person quickly with "ints".
tblDataAccess, which has two fields loginID with bureau Code. The bureau code in this table tells me what bureau that userid has access to.
How do i get the report model to filter based on this userid????. I know i have to add some data filters but i am not sure where.
I put an filter on DataAccess so that login = getuserid().
But what do i do to table person or table bureau, so that a person can only see the people in there bureau.

Report Builder - Data Model Filter
Oct 18, 2007I have built a data model in visual studio that I am using with report builder in reporting services. The data model is using data from a view in SQL Server 2005. I am trying to apply a filter to the data model to restrict the data available in report builder. I know that I could change the code for the view and filter that data that way, but I would rather creates two models each one producing differnt sets of filtered data. I have tried adding a filter to the data model, but it does not seem to work. Do anyone have any suggestions?

Master Data Services :: MDS Filter Entity Based On Attribute From Another Domain?
Oct 28, 2014I have an entity (A), in which I use domain based attribute. The second entity (B) has several attributes. My problem is that, I would like to filter the first entity (A) based on an attribute that belongs to the second entity. The only way I can filter it (in MDS Excel add-in or Explorer) is by using Code or Name from the second entity.
I have in mind a couple of solutions, but they require some coding with xml saved query from Excel.

Oct 19, 2015 I need to develop a language specific dwh, meaning that descriptions of products are available from a SAP system in multiple languages. English is the most important language and that is the standard. But, there are also requirements of countries that wants productdescriptions in their language.

One option is to column the descriptions, but that is not very elegantly. I was thinking of using bridge tables to model this but you have to always select a language in a filter (I think)..
I'm thinking of a technical solution, such that when a user logs on, the language is determined and a view determines whether to pick a certain product table specific for a certain language. But then I don't have the opportunity to interchange the different language specific fields in a report (or in my case PowerPivot).
Can I Filter The Data On Mining Structure, Mining Model?

Do I need to create 2 data source views, one for all products and the other one for the specific product category?
Afterward, I run the Data Mining Wizard 2 times to create 2 mining structures.
I also need to add the same mining model (e.g. Bayes, Cluster) to each of these mining structures.
Is there any simple way to do it?

Sep 20, 2006I am in the process of migrating 40 access databases to SQL Server and still use an access front end.All of these databases are Identical in structure and purpose. The goal is to centralize all of the databases backends into one Sql server database, but the data needs to
stay seperated by each location(user). I was able to add a location feild to all of the tables to keep the data seperate. Then I imported three of the locations data for testing. I would like to know how could I filter the data on the access frontend, so that it would ask the user for their location and only allow the user to access, update, and delete that Locations data ?

May 12, 2015Using MDS 2012: I have an entity "XYZ_Entity". In "XYZ_Entity" entity I have 2 domain based Columns "DealerGroup" and "Dealer".
While inserting information into "XYZ_Entity" entity user can select the required dealer group from domain base Dealer Group values. Now for selecting Dealer he wants the dealers to be filter based on selected dealer group and he can select from the filtered list. reason to do that is he don't want to go through thousands of dealers and select an incorrect one.
Is it possible, if yes then how?

- John Smith
- James Jones
- Robert Allen
- Lisa Andrews
- Bob Thompson
Now, I have a report where whoever is logged in will only see data for themselves and those below them, so John Smith would see everyone including himself, but Lisa Andres would only see herself and Bob Thompson. James Jones would be able to see everyone except John Smith.
How do I go about implementing this code, for example in an asp.net page where one of the user's logs on to view the report. Currently, there is a T-SQL function that creates a user heirarchy table, but it is very slow and I am curious if SSRS 2005 has any new capabilities in handling this.

Report Model Not Allowing Users To Filter Using A Pick List
Jan 9, 2008I have a MSSQL Report Services Report Model set up to allow users to create their own ad hoc reports. The data source for my model is a Named Query that queries a MS SQL view that actually pulls data from a series of tables & other views. When you create a report from this model and attempt to filter the data some of the fileds will provide you with a pick list to select which values you would like to filter on and other fields do not provide you with a pick list but require you to enter the data directly that you wish to filter on. Most of the data fields that I am trying to filter on are varchar fields and like I said some will create a pick list for you to selet from and others will not. This all seemed to start after I changed my data source to a Named Query rather than having my data source as the MS SQL View directly. I did this becuase it seemed that anytime I had to make a change to the views that the data source pulled from it would mess up any existing reports that had been created and this does not happen if I use a named query. I have gone crazy trying to figure this one out so any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

What I want is to be able to identify a set sequence (1,2,3) based upon ColB such that I'd get the following result:

25 B 2
26 D 3
I know that I should be able to get it using ROW_NUMBER() OVER (PARTITION BY ColB ORDER BY ColA), but instead of getting the sequence (1,1,1,2,2,3) I get (1,2,3,1,2,1). Using DENSE_RANK gave me the same results.

Say a Windows user = "X"
This X user does not have a direct windows login, he is present in one or more windows groups registered in the sql server.
I need to know throught which group he is logging in.
If I know this , this will help in my auditing process.

Aug 18, 2015I have a table with multiple rows per staff person. Each of these rows has staff_id, start_date, and end_date. Per staff, if any start_date comes between the start_date and end_date of a different row, or if any end_date comes between the start_date and end_date of a different row, then I have to flag these records as being identical.
How can I do this? I have tried doing a Cross Apply because I thought that would do Cartesian product (comparing every row), and I've also tried temp tables. But I haven't gotten either of these to work. Here is some dummy data:

Table 2 contains material with specific values that is not ours and we cannot rename or edit the data. I need a type of junction or mapping table that can connect the user material to the preset material. for example:
User Material = Wood-MDF
Preset Material = MDF Panel
I figured that i would make this table with 3 fields (ID, UserMaterialID, PresetMaterialID).How would i then construct a query view / Stored procedure that would return the Preset data values based on the user material id?

I have a results table that was created from many different sources in SSIS. I have done calculations and created derived columns in it. I am trying to figure out if there is a way to remove duplicate rows from this table without first writing it to a temp sql table and then parsing through it to remove them.
each row has a like key in a column - I would like to remove like rows keeping specific columns in the resulting row based on the data in this key field.

Jun 15, 2015I am trying to implement data masking based on user login and not sure why this is not working. I have the dimensions DimBrand, DimProduct and DimUser. I should mask the BrandCode with 'XXXX' nothing but in the report all the BrandCode should appear but few of the code will be masked if the user is not belongs to that group. I have a fact table FactProduct in this. In the cube I created all these 3 dimensions and the fact table. I created a new dimension DimBrandMask and I separated the code over there with a relationship with the actual DimBrand dimension. In the cube a reference relationship is set up with the measure group. Created a role with read access.
In the dimension data tab of role I put the below MDX to allowed set.
NonEmpty([DimBrandMask].[Brand Code].Members, (StrToMember("[DimUser].[Login Name].[Login Name].[" + UserName() + "]") ,[Measures].[Dim User Count]))
And in Denied Member set i put the below MDX

Jun 10, 2013I'm trying to create a percentile rank function based on the standard WIKI version:
I've seen Brian Knight's article here, but that only deals with percentile.
Where I'm struggling is getting the count of members in a set using a measure, in the current context on the same hierarchy, as the filter expression. I'm using the comparative set as in belonging to the same geographical location, and therefore associating by another attribute.
So, cl as below:

Using the same measure and context hierarchy is always going to be equal, and therefore the count is always zero. Its almost as if I need a nested context for the FILTER which allows me to use enumerate the set on the same hierarchy whilst maintaining the external reference.
I'm thinking that perhaps I'm going to have to create another hierarchy and use that as the filter set and reference through StrToMember or similar.

Gross Amount applies to all clients, whether Type A or Type B. I always want to return Gross Amount.Some clients are Type A, some are Type B, some are both, and some are neither.There are Type A Net Amount and Type B Net Amount values for all clients, but I only want to display the Type A Net value if the client is a Type A client, only Type B if the client is a Type B, or both for both, and neither for neither. I would like to return blank/null, not $0.00, for those values that should not be displayed.
Here's the basic query.

Compare Values In Consecutive Rows And Print Rows Based On Some Conditions
May 8, 2008 I have the following variables VehicleID, TransactDate, TransactTime, OdometerReading, TransactCity, TransactState.
VehicleID is the unique vehicle ID, OdometerReading is the Odometer Reading, and the others are information related to the transaction time and location of the fuel card (similar to a credit card).
The records will be first grouped and sorted by VehicleID, TransactDate, TransactTime and OdometerReading. Then all records where the Vehicle ID and TransactDate is same for consecutive rows, AND TransactCity or TransactState are different for consecutive rows should be printed.
I also would like to add two derived variables.
1. Miles will be a derived variable that is the difference between consecutive odometer readings for the same Vehicle ID.
2. TimeDiff will be the second derived variable that will categorize the time difference for a particular vehicle on the same day.
My report should look like:
VehID TrDt TrTime TimeDiff Odometer Miles TrCity TrState
1296 1/30/2008 08:22:42 0:00:00 18301 000 Omaha NE

Creating A Report Model Based On A View
Aug 1, 2007in my report model project, i'm able to successfully create and deploy a report model based on a data source view that is in turn based on a table object in my data store.
but if i try to create a report model that's based on a a data source view that is in turn based on a view in my data store, well then, the report model that gets created comes up blank - i.e. shows no objects.
What gives? Is it not possible to create a report based on a view? that can't be right!
