Integration Services :: Leading Zeros In CSV File?

Sep 13, 2015

My source data in OLEDB Source and Destination is CSV.

Below is the sample data

claim claim_number
123 000123
124 000124
125 0000125

But while loading OLEDB source data into CSV in Claim_Number column not considering the leading zeros and getting output as below.

claim claim_number
123 123
124 124
125 125

is it possible to handle with script to get the leading zeros ?

Integration Services :: Why Leading 0s Being Truncated

Sep 25, 2015

My source data indeed has leading 0s and I am reading my data into a #Temp Table with the data type of VARCHAR(10)...and its value is "0002565387". I am pumping this data into a SQL Server Table utilizing "OLE DB Destination". My "Flat File Connection Manager" has this column [AdditionalInfo4] defined as string [DT_STR] and the OutputColumnWidth is 100. I don't do any data derivation against this particular data column and simply map it in my "OLE DB Destination" and my database column is defined as [AdditionalInfo4] with a data type of VARCHAR(100).

Upon successful data pump of the data into my SQL Server Table, the column appears in SQL Server as "2565387".

Why is my SSIS solutuion truncating the leading 0s, which are indeed significant, on the data pump of data into my SQL Server Table? Is this possibly just a nuance of SSIS? Should I define a data column derivation for this data column so that the leading 0s are retained?

Leading Zeros

Jul 26, 2007

Hi Folks,

I have a situation where I need to display an integer with leading zeros, with a defined length.
Example, 43 appears as 00043 when the length is 5 and 000043 when the length
is 6.

I tried using "=Format(Fields!DirID.Value.ToString)" with different variations to no avail.

Any ideas will be appreciated.

Need To Retain Leading Zeros

Jan 25, 2008

I have an SSIS routine which uses a simple SQL select statement from a SQL Server 2005 database and then goes to a Flat File destination. The field (dischstatuscode) is a nvarchar(50) and it may contain data with leading zeros.

Code Snippet
Select DischStatusCode
from dbo.pm

...which returns:
01
23
37
05
04
41

When I open up the csv file produced by the SSIS routine, I see the following:
1
23
37
5
4
41

How can I have it retain leading zeros?

Column 1 Column 2
1234 1
12345 11

I am trying to get the following output

001234001
012345011

So the first column should have zeros padded to the front to make 6 numbers, the second column should be 3 numbers long with zeros in front. So when added together it is 9 numbers long.

Remove Leading Zeros From Output

Feb 25, 2014

What is the best way to change an output of P0123 to 123? i.e. drop the letter 'P' and also any leading zeros. We have a report that outputs terminal ID's which range from P0001 through to P0536.

I can drop the 'P' easily enough, but how I can drop the P000 from terminal ID P0001 for example.

Auto-incrementing With Leading Zeros

Hi All,
I need to set up a kind of identity insert that gives an output in the format: 00001, 00002, 00003 etc. Is there a formatting option for this sort of output using normal identity insert features or do I need to write a function to insert these values (perhaps as text) each time a new record is created?
Sorry if this is really simple but it's only my 4th day in this job!

Leading Zeros Are Trimmed Automatically

Apr 25, 2007

I am reposting this from the VB IDE forum, becaue I received no response

Using VS05 SP1 Pro/SQL Express...

There are two tables, UserIDs and Recordings (which has a foreign key relating it back to UserIDs).

I created a Stored Procedure via Server Explorer that returns the user ID for a given Foreign Key in Recordings table. If the UserID is "0001", then "0001" is return (userIDs are stored as strings). The stored procedure works every time.

I then created a table adpater that uses the above stored procedure. The table adapter is used in code. It has always worked fine, but i have discovered if the user ID starts with 0, those zeros are trimmed by the table adapter .

For example:

UserID = Me.TableAdapter_Recordings.FillBy_StoredProceedure_Return_UserID(ForeignKey_Recordings_Table).ToString

should result in a userID of "0001", but instead results in "1", which, from a string view point, is incorrect. As strings, "0001" and "1" are totally different, and the "1" fails when you do a fill for the table UserIDs.

So, the Stored Procedure and the Table Adapter using the same Stored Procedure return different results, with the Table Adapter being wrong. Why is it trimming the zeros? Is there anyway to stop that so the results are correct?

Thanks!

Bob

Integration Services :: SSIS Is Removing Leading Zeroes From 6 Character Time String?

May 29, 2015

I am using SSIS 2012 SP1 to import a comma delimited csv file into a SQL table.

One of the fields carries a time value:

Source = textfile, column=DT_STR(8), value format = "hhmmss", e.g. "011525"
Destination = field in SQL table, data type = time(0)

To get it from the textfile to the SQL table I am:

1.) Creating a derived column called [d_Time of Entry]with the following formula -

SUBSTRING([Time of Entry],1,2) + ":" + SUBSTRING([Time of Entry],3,2) + ":" + SUBSTRING([Time of Entry],5,2)

2.) Performing a data conversion task to convert [d_Time of Entry] from DT_STR(8) to time(0) The upload fails because values that start with a zero, i.e. times before 10am, have their leading 0's stripped before being derived.  You can see this because "011525" is derived as "11:52:5" when it should be "01:15:25".

Maintain Leading Zeros When Exporting To .csv Using SQL Server 2000 DTS

Jan 13, 2008

I am trying to export the result of a select into a .csv file using SQL Server 2000 DTS. The data for varchar fields has leading zeroes in the database, which is very much required in the csv file.

But, the .csv file trims the leading zeroes. How do we force to maintain the same data as in source?

I had used Text File Destination Connection as the destination, with the below options
File Extension: .csv
File Format: Delimited
File Type: ANSI
Text Qualifier: Double Quotes ("")
Row Delimiter: {CR}{LF}
Column Delimiter: comma

Source Data: 0123
Target Data (Requirement): 0123

The data in .csv: 123 (This is the issue)

When I open this file in a Text Editor, I do see the data in double quotes..."0123".

Thanks in advance.

SSIS Leading Zeros Gone After Migration Of Mainframe To SQL Server

May 22, 2007

I am migrating mainframe data to SQL Server 2005 and have found that from a mainframe character field with leading zeros for example the value of 00023 to a SQL Server column defined as varchar (5) the resulting column value is 23 not 00023. I need the leading zeros because these are account ids, etc. So the value is 00023 not 23. Is this some setting in SQL Server 2005 that needs to be changed or what? This is not a numeric field on the mainframe or a numeric column for SQL Server.

Integration Services :: Get FileName Fo Each File Created Via Dynamic Flat File Destination

Jul 24, 2015

Need to know how I can get the dynamic filename created in the FlatFile destination for insert into a package audit table?

Scenario: Have created a package that successfully outputs Dynamiclly named flat files { Format: C:Test’Comms_File_’ + ‘User::FileNumber’+’_’+Date +’.txt’

E.g.: Comms_File_1_20150724.txt, Comms_File_2_20150724.txt  etc} using Foreach Loop Container  :

* Enumerator Set to: “Foreach ADO Enumerator” with the ADO object source variable selected to identify how many total loop iterations there are i.e. Let’s say 4 thus 4 files to be created

*Variable Mappings : added the User::FileNumber – indicates which file number current loop iteration is i.e. 1,2,3,4

For the DataFlow task have a OLDBSource and a FlatFile Destination where Flat File ConnectionString is set up as:

@[User::Output_Path] + "Comms_File"+ @[User:: FileNumber] +"_" + replace((DT_WSTR, 10) (DT_DBDATE) GETDATE(),"-","")+ ".txt"

All this successfully creates these 4 files:

Comms_File_1_20150724.txt, Comms_File_2_20150724.txt, Comms_File_3_20150724.txt, Comms_File_4_20150724.txt

Now the QUESTION is how do I get these filenames as I need to insert them into a DB Audittable. The audit table looks like this:

CREATE TABLE dbo.MMMAudit
  (
AuditID      INT IDENTITY(1, 1) NOT NULL,
     PackageName     VARCHAR(100) NULL,

FileName           VARCHAR(100) NULL,
     LoadTime        DATETIME NULL,
     NumberofRecords INT NULL
  )

To save the Filename & how many records in each file in our Audit Table, am using an Execute SQL Task and configuring it as this:

Execute SQL Task

Parameter mapping - Mapped the User Variable (RecordsInserted) and System Variable( PackageName) to Insert statement as shown below

SQLStatement: INSERT INTO [dbo].[MMMAudit] (
PackageName,NumerofRecords,LoadTime)
 (?,?.GETDATE)

Again this all works terrific & populates the dbo.MMMAudit table as shown below BUT I also need to insert the respsctive file name – How do I do that?

AuditID PackageName FileName  NumberOfRecords
1           MMM       NULL                      12
2          MMM  NULL                23
3          MMM  NULL      14
4          MMM  NULL              1

Integration Services :: Excel Destination With Run Date-1 Inside File Not The File Name

Aug 26, 2015

I have a ssis package where I need to have excel destination.  In the Excel file, I need to have few rows with some text and then populate data below the text. One the text is like this:

Data as of:  08/25/2015

if the report ran today, then Data as of will have Yesterday. So, if the user opens that excel file after a week, then user should see same  Data as of:  08/25/2015. not today()-day(1).

I was planing to handle on excel side with today()-day(1). but it only works the day it was run. Then the excel file is open after few days later, then it might as Data as of:  08/30/2015 which is not true. It should still stay Data as of:

08/25/2015 on what ever date the excel file is open. The SSIS package  runs only once.

How do I handle this so that whenever user open the file, they will see Data as of:  08/25/2015. This is not a column in excel. It is like a description of data in excel.
