Integration Services :: SSIS 2012 - Managing The Failure Of A Foreach ADO Enumerator Container
Jul 9, 2015
in a my SSIS 2012 pkg I'm using a Foreach ADO Enumerator container that reads an object variable in order to get an id value. This identifier is passed as an input parameter to an Execute SQL task to update an Oracle table: if this task fails the id is written on a SQL Server table. After the Execute SQL task execution, with success or failure, the flow go to another task in the container.
When an error occurs for the update on Oracle table, each tasks inside the container are executed but the container fails and the loop ends.I'd like to complete the entire loop respect to the identifiers present in the object variable also if the update operation on Oracle table goes in error.
In order to update an Oracle table target from a SQL Server table source I need to use a Foreach Loop Container, so I can loop on the rows of the SQL Server table source. This source table has two columns: the old identifier to update and the new identifier to apply. I must use the value of the old identifier to filter the Oracle rows to update, while the new identifier is the new value to assign to the filtered old identifier.
I already know how to use the Foreach Loop Container when it is necessary to loop on an unique column of a table/view (using an object variable, using a Foreach ADO enumerator, etc.), but I need to loop on two columns.
I am having a challenge to pass the filename variable from SSIS Foreach Loop Container to SQL store procedure. I have an "Execute SQL Task" inside "Foreach Loop Container" which will receive the input filename parameter passed by the Foreach Loop Container. The store procedure command line is defined as "EXEC sp_mySQLStoreProcedure ?" within the "Execute SQL Task". The Foreach loop container will gather the filenames from File System then put it in the filename variable one by one. I would like to pass the filename variable as the input parameter to the sp_mySQLStoreProcedure in the "Execute SQL Task". How can I connect the variable and the store procedure so that it will process all the input files gathered by the Foreach Loop Container?
How is foreach loop container - foreach ADO enumerator performace in SSIS package compares to use of cursors in stored procedures
Is there any articles comparing them
I understand a lot of factors can affect the performance, however what is expected performance for the foreach ADO enumerator loop for large dataset. What is Microsoft recommendation for that - recommended - not recommended (using large datasets - over million records)
I will attempt to explain my situation more clearly.
I need to get data from a data source using a DataFlow Task (which pushes the DataSet into a Variable) and process the data row by row in a ForNext (ADO Enumerated) Container. I don't want to map the columns into variables because the number of columns and the data types vary considerably and I want to make my package as "generic" as possible.
Is there a way, in Script, to read the current row of the ForEach Container from into an ADO DataRow so that thie names and values of each column can be accessed?
I know how to read the entire DataSet object from a Variable into an ADO DataSet and iterate through the rows in the normal way but this doesn't suit my purpose. It would be really useful if there was a way to do somehing similar with the current DataRow in the ForEach Container.
To explain what I am doing, the idea is to use the Column Names and Values for each row to construct an xml fragement, store it in a string Variable and (in the next step) use the Web Services Task to call a Web Method with the xml fragment (from the Variable) as one of the inputs.
A less attarctive alernative would be to use a Scipt outside a ForEach Container and loop through the rows of teh DataTable as descibed above and perhaps call the Web Service Task from teh Script. The proble is that I don't know how to do this either and it woudl be much "neater" anyway to use the ForEach Container.
I have a package which contains a foreach container. Can anyone help me in setting the properties for the enumerators programmatically??? I am trying to set the properties for the enumerator "ForEach File Enumerator"
I use a ForEach Loop Container in a ssis Package. The package has to look up in the directory 'f:ackups' for backupfiles and copy them into another folder. In my development environment it works fine. But if I run it on the SQL-Server with the SQL-Server Agent, the package logs always that the folder ist empty.Unfortunately the message is always 'empty folder' even if I define 'f:labla' as folder that actually not exists!
As filespecification I tried both *.* and *.bak .My assumption is, that the SQL-Server agent has not enough rights for that folder. But on the other side the agent is able to create backup-files in this folder. The SQL-Server Agent works under netservice control.
In my SSIS package I am using Foreach loopcontainer to load multiple flat files.
Now my requirement is that I want to load only those file which contains %vendor%.In source folder I have many files but I am interested in to load only those file which contains the string %vendor% in file name.
why when I make a change to a foreach loop container in a SSIS package it does not save?
I am trying to change the base file name and if I change it through either the edit or properties windows, the changes does not save. Fore example i change the Files: or File Spec: from oldfile*.txt to newfilename*.txt and when I save and og bak into the edit area to confirm the change, the Files: section shows as "oldfile*.txt.
Ever since installing SQL Server 2005 SP1, when using the Foreach Loop container in SSIS the Foreach File Enumerator and Foreach Item Enumerator are missing from the Enumerator drop down box. Anyone else seen this issue? and know how to fix it?
I am looping through xml files and validating them with the XML Task. On sucess I want to perform task 2, on failure I want to perform task 3. When one file fails to validate all subsequent tasks fail.
I have also tried putting the result in a variable instead of using the success constraint. I get the same result, the variable keeps the failed value after the first file fails. Any advise is greatly appreciated.
Is there a way to register a new ForEach Enumerator within SSIS, for example ForEach Email in Exchange Inbox?
Or is the solution to create an SSIS variable and use the ForEach From Variable Enumerator? I take it the variable has to implement IEnumerable, or IEnumerable<T>.
My preference out of the two would be to register a new foreach enumerator which would take some implementation away from the developers and reduce time spent on the tasks at hand.
I have no "Foreach File Enumerator" oprtion in the Enumerator Property of the Foreach Loop Component.
I have this enumerator in the c:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server90DTSForEachEnumerators folder.
Also I check it in the GAC - it does not here. I try to execute gacutil.exe -iF ForEachFileEnumerator.dll, but it is failed with "Failure adding assembly to the cache: The module was expected to contain an assembly manifest." Seems it is not managed enumerator.
Please help me.
Also information on how to regeister unmanaged enumerators are welcome!
I setup this package to import data from a Sharepoint list to a SQL Server data table. The primary key of my SQL table is mapped to the Title column of my Sharepoint list. There is a possibility that duplicate values will be entered in the Title field of the Sharepoint list. So when importing data into my table via SSIS, my package always error-out when there it comes across duplicate values. how you others have managed data integrity when importing from a Sharepoint list with the Title column being mapped to the primary key of a table.
I've seen variations on this question in this forum, but none of the suggestions work for me, so any ideas would be greatly appreciated!
I have a SSIS package whose function is to monitor a directory for flat files and distribute the information in these files into a SQL 2005 DB for further processing later. I've configured Transactions for the package as serializable and supported, and I have a ForEach container set to serializable and required. All SQL and Data Flow tasks take place within this container. I have a single Connection Manager to pull in the flat input file, and another for the connection to the SQL DB. This setup will function, and roll back if necessary, but I take a huge hit on the continual establishment of connections to the DB. If I set the retainsameconnection property on the SQL DB Connection manager, I get an error when executing my first Data Flow task to move data from the flat input file to working tables within the DB: 0xC001A004 - Incompatible transaction context was specified for a retained connection. If I turn off Transaction support, the retainsameconnection property works as expected.
I've been running Profiler Traces, and can verify that no connection has been established to the SQL Server prior to execution of this task, so it seems like the context should be OK. I would welcome any feedback, suggestions or alternatives.
The Database Trasnfer Task has failed with the following error......failed with the following error: "Invalid object name 'dbo.exampleViewName.". Possible failure reasons: Problems with the query, "ResultSet" property not set correctly, parameters not set correctly, or connection not established correctly.
In case of command execution from project PowerShell SSIS, writes only Failure to what there can be a problem? From VS it is launched without problems.
I'm trying to execute a SSIS package via proxy user but I keep getting the following error message regardless of I have tried to do to fix it, I have done the following so far:-
1. Recreated the proxy user 2. Retyped the password, under credentials
Message : Unable to start execution of step 1 (reason: Error authenticating proxy "proxyname", system error: Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password.). The step failed.
I am using Sql server 2012. In my project whenever I run the Package individually, it run successfully. But while executing the package through SSIS task, I get the following warning and not able to transfer the data from flat file to DB.
Foreach Loop Container:Warning: The For Each File enumerator is empty. The For Each File enumerator did not find any files that matched the file pattern, or the specified directory was empty.
I am looking for solution for "Communication link failure" since many months in google but no luck, am running an SSIS package to load data. job failing many times with error 'Communication link failure', searched every where but found nothing.
Below is the complete error description when job failed.
OS - Windows server 2008 R2 Enterprise Edition RAM - 198GB SQL server 2008 R2 Enterprise Edition and error description is below,
Started: 6:22:40 AM Error: 2015-08-19 18:50:32.70 Code: 0xC0202009 Source: Data Flow Task Lookup [193] Description: SSIS Error Code DTS_E_OLEDBERROR. An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x80004005. An OLE DB record is available.
Would like to do a file System task and a data flow for each row in a table.
I use a ForEach container with ADO enumerator set to a rowset variable. The rowset contains all rows from a single table. What I want to do is as in pseudo-code below:
for each row in ADO rowset
varDestination=CurrentRow.col_file_name.value
FileSystemTask.Destination=VarDestination
FilesystemTask.Copy(Source to Destination)(copy excel file from fixed folder to multiple variable folders)
DataFlowtask.Destination=varDestination(Write data to an excel destination Next My problem is that I dont know how to access the values of fileds from my current row in the rowset. Request help and pointers to samples. TIA Kar
In my project source is Oracle and I am using ODBC to connect oracle for lading.I have create 2 project parameter for connection string one for connection and another for password..when I am making expression on ODBC connection it is showing error like below I can't establish a connection because our legacy driver doesn't support 'Password' as a connection string attribute.
when I am passing expression like @[$Package::V_Constring]+ "PWD=faster1" on odbc connection it working fine.
When I use just the ConnectionString property on the ODBC connection manager and use a 'pwd' attribute; all is well. E.g., "uid=<user>;pwd=<password>;Dsn=<dsn name>;". But as soon as I flip the sensitive attribute, I'm getting the classic error:
The expression will not be evaluated because it contains sensitive parameter variable..The sensitive parameter is desired, of course. I don't want the password in the clear.
