Hi. I have a database online. I have to run some scripts, and check out my database. The ISP i have, has currently changed the IP address for the database, now I can not hook up with it via Enterprise Manager. Can someone help me. I am using Microsoft ME as the platform.

View 6 Replies View RelatedWe have SQL cluster installed on top of windows cluster on VM environment. Node1 and Node2 under Windows Failover Cluster. SQL instance is currently on node2 the instance is up and running, but SQL Cluster service remains online pending and it restarts the instance on every 5 minutes.
SQL Browser service are running successfully.TCP/IP ports are enabled and configured.If we start the SQL server agent it is on for seconds and stopped immediately  .Cluster Service is attempt to connect to the SQL service every few minutes (setting in SQL cluster resource) for the IsAlive check, if this fails then the SQL resource is restarted even if the instance was online. Hope this is what happening exactly.

I am a newbee withh SSIS, I used DTS in SQL 2000 way back to migrate data from AS/400 DB2UDB iSeries to SQL 2000. It was easy to use DTS just specify Source and Destination and do some mapping and bingo. But now how do I do the same things with SSIS?
Is there some sort of tutorial out there? Any nice books? Any help is greatly appriciated.

I have my first small SQl Server 2005 database developed on my localserver and I have also its equivalent as an online database.I wish to update the local database (using and asp.net interface) andthen to upload the data (at least the amended data, but given thesmall size all data should be no trouble) to the online database.I think replication is the straight answer but I have no experience ofthis and I am wondering what else I might use which might be lesscomplicated. One solution is DTS (using SQL 2000 terms) but i am notsure if I can set this up (1) to overwrite existing tables and (2) notto seemingly remove identity attributes from fields set as identities.I know there are other possibilities but I would be glad of advice asto the likely best method for a small database updated perhaps onceweekly or at less frequent intervals,Best wishes, John Morgan

1. what is main difference between Full Recovery and Bulk_Logged Recovery models? when to use one, and when to use the other?
2. why do i need marks in my backup? can you tell me in which case do i need marks? i don't understand, why wolud i ever wanted to recover database to some marked point? in which case i would like to recover only it's part and not full database?
3. if i do have backup of transaction log, it means nothing if i do not have backup of database structure? i need to have complete backup of transaction log to be able to recover all of the data?
4. i have database, and i did make no changes in database structure. in that case, only one backup of the system tables of the database is enough? there is no need to backup it all the time?
5. when i backup my transaction log file, do i backup only a differences between last backup of transaction log file and current, or i always backup complete transaction log file?

I've just started with a company that had a web developer in to set up their site. She set it up with Coldfusion and MS SQL Server, uploaded the whole thing to their provider, then disappeared. Then the whole thing got dumped in my lap, and I'm pretty new to both SQL Server and Coldfusion.
My first question is, how can I access the SQL Server database online? It's somewhere on the web host's site, and I have the name of it and the password, but I have no clue how I'm supposed to get a look at the thing. Is there a file I should be able to find? Can anyone provide a clue?

One of our database size 90 Gb was backed up and restored on a standyby server with NoRecovery option .A Stored Procedure was written to do production Database transaction log Backup every 15 min and restore the Tlog File on Standby server.
Once the last transaction log file is restored on standby server the tlog file is deleted.
Now due to some reason the restore tlog job failed but the tlog file got deleted.
Now till we will not restore the last database backup we will not be able to start the restore tlog job.
Now the database is in restoring mode.Is there any methord to get that database online without any transactionlog.

If I want to let people come to a wesite and login and let them look at information pages and I also want the database to be used by staff of the organization.
So I would have people logging in over the Internet as well as logging in local to use the same database, but the online people would be restrickted to only some of the pages.
What would the basic database design look like.
I'm currently developing an online questionnaire system for mydissertation and I have now come across a few problems. I'm developingan online approach recommendation system. The basic feature is that aclient will answer a number of questions online and based on theresults an approach will be recommended.There will be four pages with 5 questions on each site, this will allbe sent to a database and based on this an approach will be generated.I'm using mysql, php and html w/javascript for developing this but theproblem I have is that I'm not sure how the calculation andsuggestions will be coded. I've though of putting an average result into the database and then retrieve a ‘matching' approach based on thiswith querying using php.Any other recommendation is MUCH appreciated.many many thanks!

I need to find column names if any after 2 “check” columns.
Scenario: I have a database, with approx 400-1500 tables, depending on installation of software. The software is structured so that, when it synchronizes the SQL database it will create all the columns e.g. custacc, custname etc. and then it will always put in two check columns “CheckOne” and “CheckTwo” these two columns has to be the two last ones. In 99.9 this always works fine, but sometime if the users creates a new field in the software, when it synchronizes the new field “lands” behind the two checkfields, which is not good.
So what I am after is a script, which can run through all user tables, tell me if there are columns after the two checkfields and list those tables if any.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not experienced with SQL Server 2005.I've got a live copy of my database running on the web server.I've got another copy running on my desktop that I make changes to.Whats the best way to sync between the two so:1. View 3 Replies View RelatedI am using VB with Visual Studio Express. I am new to these tools. I have SQL Server 2005 Express installed on my machine. I think that I have the right version. I am just using Express for taking classes and teaching myself on my machine.
When I follow the examples in the book, I keep getting this error when I go to my ASP.NET configuration and click on the security tab to add myself as a user.
"There is a problem with your selected data store. This can be caused by an invalid server name or credentials, or by insufficient permission. It can also be caused by the role manager feature not being enabled. Click the button below to be redirected to a page where you can choose a new data store. The following message may help in diagnosing the problem: The database filename can not contain the following 3 characters: [ (open square brace), ] (close square brace) and ' (single quote) " -- end of erro msg.
I have an apostrophe in my last name. Could that be what is causing it? Is it creating a db based on my name or something? Or do I have the wrong version of SQL Server Express installed.

I have Enterprise Manager on my local machine. For the last twelvemonths it has been connecting without problem to my online SQL Serverdatabase provided by my ISP.Three weeks ago the ISP applied some sort of extra securityarrangements to their SQL Server to allow access only through port1433. they have told me to configure an alias using Network Client andto register this alias in the usual way using my Enterprise Manager.My problem is that despite creating the alias in exactly the wayinstructed I just cannot connect to online database. One of my users created a MSDE database and did not realise that the limit is 2GB. I can not access the database. Is there anyway I can recover it?
They do not have a backup.
Could I create a new database in Standard Edition and then attach the Data and log files from the MSDE database?
Would that work?
Does anyone know how to do this? I am in the middle of writing a server side program, and this is one thing that I cannot do without.
Also, if anyone can answer that, how do I do the same with an Exchange 5.5 Email account?

SQL server, by-mistake I updated values of a column in a database hosted online, is there any way undo the transaction. I didn't created any backup of the database. I read that still it can be recovered through the .ldf (log file) but unable to access it. Is there anyway to get access of the Log file or is there any way to recover the data.

I would like to ask if there will be a write and concurrency issue if i would create an online application with just one user connecting to the database, just like most open source php/mysql that can be downloaded
i.e
Setup 1. I will grant a single user that will connect to a database and will be set to a config.inc.php file and then create a table users (userid, username, password) and this table will be used for the application authentication and access control.
Setup 2. or is it much better to grant users that will connect to the database and have the table users for access control of the application?
to further illustrate my query:
Setup 1 would be:

I just switched to a host that allows database connections so that I can now upload my database to their server.
When I test my site on my personal PC it works great. I upload everything to the server and nothing. I know that I need to load the database to the server. I have Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express and can make the connection but how do i load my database from my personal PC to the host computer?
I would be greatful if someone was able to walk me thou the steps on how to transfer the database. I am really very new with the database thing and ASP.
