Package Is Missing The Password When I Deploy It To SQL Server SSIS Instance

Apr 16, 2008

Hi there,

Something a little wride mysterious is happening with my package when I deploy it to run at the SSIS server instance. Everytime that I try to deploy it (from my local development environment) to SSIS server, my package is not keeping its database user and password.

As the database user and password are the same one we dont need to use the XML setting to keep these data there.

So, does anyone know what could be happening with my package and/or my deployment?

Thank you,
Luis Antonio - Brazil

Deploy SSIS Package To Server

Ok, I created SSIS packages on my local box. All of my packages are using config files for the db connections and other configurations that'll be changed per environment. My question is how do I deploy the .dstx file and the associated config file to the servers?

Right now I'm running the packages in BIDS as I create them. I now want to run them on an actual server

Permissions To Deploy SSIS Package To SQL Server

Jan 31, 2008

What are the minimum permissions required to deploy an SSIS package to SQL Server? Here is what I have tried:

1. No additional permissions (i.e user created with no special permissions):

Deployment Error: No execute permissions on sp_put_package???

2. Dbowner role on msdb dataabase

Deployment Error: The SaveToSQLServer method has encountered OLE DB error code 0x80040E14 (Access to Integration Services package 'xxx' is denied.). The SQL statement that was issued has failed.

3. Sqladmin role on login: No errors

Most DBAs are reluctant to give sqladmin role to developers. Is there any way around this restriction?

Cannot Deploy SSIS Package On 64bit SQL Server

I have a SSIS package, which get data from oracle 9i, and dump into sql server 2005 64bit itanium, its running fine. When I am deploying the package on SQL Server 2005 its showing me the error with connection. on 64bit Oracle Net manager showing its able to connect oracle successfully. I think actually the problem is with encryption, as the package is developed on 32bit machine, therefore all connection strings are encrypted for that machine. Is there some has faced same issue? please help!

Problem When Running A SSIS Master-package-child Package On Non Default Sql-server Instance

Dec 6, 2007

Hi there

We have a SSIS run which runs as follows

The master package has a configuration file, specifying the connect strings
The master package passes these connect-strings to the child packages in a variable
Both master package and child packages have connection managers, setup to use localhost. This is done deliberately to be able to test the packages on individual development pc€™s.
We do not want to change anything inside the packages when deploying to test, and from test to production. All differences will be in the config files (which are pretty fixed, they very seldom change). That way we can be sure that we can deploy to production without any changes at all.

The package is run from the file system, through a job-schedule.

We experience the following when running on a not default sql-server instance (called dkms5253uedw)

Case 1:
The master package starts by executing three sql-scripts (drop foreign key€™s, truncate tables, create foreign key€™s). This works fine.

The master package then executes the first child package. We then in the sysdtslog get:

Error - €ścannot connect to database xxx€?
Info - €śpackage is preparing to get connection string from parent €¦€?

The child package then executes OK, does all it€™s work, and finish. Because there has been an error, the master package then stops with an error.

Case 2:
When we run exactly the same, but with the connection strings in the config file pointing to the default instance (dkms5253), the everything works fine.

Case 3:
When we run exactly the same, again against the dkms5253uedw instance, but now with the exact same databases defined in the default instance, it also works perfect.

Case 4:
When we then stop the sql-server on the default instance, the package faults again, this time with

Error - €śtimeout when connect to database xxx€?
Info - €śpackage is preparing to get connection string from parent €¦€?

And the continues as in the first case

From all this we conclude, that the child package tries to connect to the database before it knows the connection string it gets passed in the variable from the master package. It therefore tries to connect to the default instance, and this only works if the default instance is running and has the same databases defined. As far as we can see, the child package does no work against the default instance (no logging etc.).

We have tried delayed validation in the packages and in the connection managers, but with the same results (error).

So we are desperately hoping that someone can help us solve this problem.

Thanx,
/Nils M - Copenhagen

Error While Trying To Deploy SSIS Package

Sep 1, 2006

Hi,

I am trying to deploy a DTSX package to 32-bit SQL Server 2005 in a 64-bit machine from my installer.
I am getting the following error in the SaveToSQLServer method:

The SaveToSQLServer method has encountered OLE DB Error code 0x80004005 (Communication Link Failure). The SQL statement that was issued has failed.

However I am not facing this problem when I try to deploy the DTSX package to a 32-bit SQL Server 2005 in a 32-bit machine.

Can anyone tell me why this happens and how this could be solved?

Thanks,

Noob To SSIS Package Configure And Deploy

Mar 19, 2007

Hi there

I am fairly new to SSIS, I got my package running fine in my development environment with the connection managers (connecting to 3 databases on the same server, with username and password, not Integrated security) and all.

The problem comes in when i want to deploy my package or execute it outside of the development environment.

When I execute the .dtsx file in my project it brings up the Execute Package Utility and I just click Execute, thinking it should work, but not, any ideas??

So I read some of the forums and got looking into the configuration file, suppose that it does not carry the connection manager settings thru, but dam that still doesn't work for me?

The whole idea is that I will be executing the package from my C# code, so does my package have to be just on the server in a folder or does it have to be installed in the db? which is best??

Hope anyone can help me!!

Thanks
Jamie

Deploy SSIS Package To Production Which Has A Connection To Oracle Databse

Aug 14, 2006

Hi There,

In SSIS package development environment, I was able to connect to an oracle database and pull data into my sql server database. I installed the client tools for oracle and I put an entry into the tnsnames.ora and I was able to connect.

But in production environment, if I deploy the package on sql server, I was wondering if I had to do the same job of downloading the oracle client tools onto my production machine --which creates a tnsnames.ora file to it default location and then edit it with tthe tns entry-- or is there a better way to do this--avoiding the download?

Can somebody plzz help me ?

Thanks.

SQL Server Agent Job Will Not Retain Package Password (encrypt Sensitive With Password)

Apr 1, 2008

I have a package protected by a password - I am already unhappy that to get it to use the configuration file to change connection strings for the production servers I have had to hardcode the password into the config file - very insecure!
However, the package now deploys correctly to the production server and will run from there OK, but NOT if scheduled as a SQL Server Agent Job. Thus is because however often I edit the command line to include the password after the DECRYPT switch (which it has prompted me for when I click on the command line tab), the Job Step will not retain it.
If I open it up after I have edited it and closed it, the password has disappeared.

I know that if I run dtexec plus the code in the Command Line tab (with the password), the package runs OK.

This is driving me insane!
I have read all the other posts and so I tried replacing the SSIS package step with a CmdExec step and pasting that code into there - then I get an OLEDB error..

The code I use is:
DTEXEC /SQL "ImportRateMonitoringTables" /SERVER servername /DECRYPT password /CONFIGFILE "D:Microsoft SQL ServerSSISDeploymentsRateMonitoringImportTasksDeploymentImportRateMonitoringTables_Production.dtsConfig" /MAXCONCURRENT " -1 " /CHECKPOINTING OFF /REPORTING E

and I get

SSIS Error Code DTS_E_OLEDBERROR. An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x8000FFFF

although the same code executes perfectly from a command prompt.

Please does anyone have any experience with a similar problem and if so, how did you get round it?

Thank you

Integration Services :: How To Embed SSIS Package Password In Job Agent

Jun 14, 2011

I'm having a problem with saving a password in a SSIS package that is accessing an Oracle database as an external data source.  I experienced the problem that many people have had with the SSIS package not saving the Oracle password as expected.  I successfully saved the Oracle datasource password (Password #1) using the "Encrypt sensitive with password" security setting and then setting a separate/new password (Password #2) for the SSIS package.  I've imported this package into my Integration Services installation, and I can get it to run successfully by manually entering Password #2 when I open the package.

Now I want to pull the SSIS package into a SQL Job Agent, along with some other steps, to run on an automatic schedule.  My question -- how/where do I embed Password #2 (the one for the SSIS package) in the settings for the SQL Job Agent step that I use to run the SSIS package?  The SQL Job Agent step settings box prompts me for Password #2 before it will let me edit settings for the package, but it doesn't save that password.  So when I actually run the whole job, the SSIS package always fails.

Problem Runnind SSIS Package Protected With Password From MSDB

May 22, 2008

Hello,
I need to run SSIS packages with the 32 bit dtexec version, and I am storing these files into the MSDB package store, in SQL Server 2005. I have chosen to encrypt sensitive data with password, and then to execute the packages with xp_cmdshell.
The problem is that I receive the following message when I try to run it from management studio (when running this, I am logged in with the sa user): exec master..xp_cmdshell 'dtexec /Ser ServerName /SQL "TestFolderPackage" /De "testPass"'

End Error€?
If I run the same package with the same command specified above, but without sensitive data in it (a simpler version with no passwords and connection strings, it works fine)
exec master..xp_cmdshell 'dtexec /Ser ServerName /SQL "TestFolderPackage"'
If I run the firs package version (with sensitive data and password protected) from the command line, everything works well:
DTExec.exe /ServerName OLAP /SQL "TestFolderPackage" /De "testPass"
I know in ASP.NET when encrypting web.config section, the system stores the decryption keys in a app data folder, and in order to be able to read from the encrypted web.config, the user under which runs the ASP.NET must be granted access to that folder, by running asp_regiis.exe with some parameters. I believe here a have a similar problem, with users not being granted access to encryption keys.
Thanks in advance

Connection Passwords With And Without SSIS Package Configurations - Password Not Sticking

May 8, 2008

I'm learning SSIS, and just started to use SSIS Package Configurations. I want to be able to switch between a dev and prod instance of our database.

I did not specify the password in the Configuration file (XML), figuring it would get it from the package itself. (That will be the same between dev and prod). But once I set up to use the Configuration, I started to get a "Login failed..." message. I added the password to the configuration, and it's the same. I quit using the configuration file at all, and then it works again.

This may be related, but when I show the properties on my connection, it shows stars for the password. When I go to the editor, the password field is blank, and if I test the connection, it fails. I type in the password, and then the connection works. I have the "Save my password" checked, but every time I go back, the password is blank. In fact, if I type in the password for the connection in the editor, and then go to the "All" page, the password is blank. It may be a red herring, but it sure looks like it's not really storing the password, and thus the Configuration file can't connect when it tries to get it. I can type in the password, test the connection (it works), close the editor dialog, open the editor dialog, test the connection again, and since the password is now blank, the connection fails.

What do I have to do to make that password actually stick!?

Without the Configuration file, when I save the package to SQLServer, it will run as a job, in spite of the password appearing to not stick. With the configuration file, it's not even running while still in Studio.

Here are at least some of the version information, which may or may not be useful.

Microsoft Visual Studio 2005

Microsoft .NET Framework
Version 2.0.50727

Microsoft SQL Server Integration Services Designer
Version 9.00.3042.00

But password field was empty.

As soos as I enter password the package executes successfully.

Question: How can I transfer a password for OLEDB Connection within a SSIS package to another developer's VS2005?

Parameter Is Missing A Value Error Only When I Deploy

Sep 7, 2006

Report X passes all it's parameters to Report Y via a "jump to report". Report Y then populates a select box based on the parameters passed to it. The user selects one of these values and clicks "View Report". This works perfectly in the development environment. But when I deploy it to the server I keep getting an error when I click the link that jumps to Report Y.

Here's the error: "The 'B' parameter is missing a value"

The problem is.. I don't want to pass the B parameter to Report Y. I want the user to select this from a list. I'm very confused as to why this would work in the development envionment but not when deployed.

Any Ideas?

Analysis :: SSAS Tabular Missing Data Column Doesn't Deploy

Aug 2, 2015

I have created a tabular model with VS 2013 Ultimate. I deployed the model several times and everything works great with Power Pivot.

One of the dimension tables, "Age", has an integer field that is null. I updated that column in SSMS to have values, processed the table in VS and the "Age" column now has integer values.

I deployed the model again, connected with Power Pivot, and the "Age" column still has not data. I refreshed the Excel spreadsheet several times, started a new one, deployed several times and there is still not data in the "Age" column even though it clearly exists in VS.

I opened SSMS on the Analysis Service and queried the table in question and it also shows no data in the Age column even though it is in the data table and the VS model.

I can't find anything different about this column than others that contain data. How can this be happening?
