Need Help To Deploy SSIS Package In Production And To Schedule It

Dec 19, 2007

Hi All,

I have created an SSIS package which will import data from EXCEL file to SQL server. I had assigned the excel file path using an expression which wil be a combination of the folder path where the excel file resides + file name + date+extension. I also assigned the connection string for the OLEDB using the Expression. I have also exported the Folder path and the eonnection string variables to the package configurations and i have created the deployment project, which contains the package, packagemanifest and the package config file.

Now i need to know the steps to install the package in the production server and the steps to schedule the job in the sql server.

any of you plz give me the link to find the steps or plz tel me the things that i have to do.

Thankz to all

Deploy SSIS Package To Production Which Has A Connection To Oracle Databse

Aug 14, 2006

Hi There,

In SSIS package development environment, I was able to connect to an oracle database and pull data into my sql server database. I installed the client tools for oracle and I put an entry into the tnsnames.ora and I was able to connect.

But in production environment, if I deploy the package on sql server, I was wondering if I had to do the same job of downloading the oracle client tools onto my production machine --which creates a tnsnames.ora file to it default location and then edit it with tthe tns entry-- or is there a better way to do this--avoiding the download?

Can somebody plzz help me ?

Thanks.

Deploy To Production Using Configuration Properties

Jul 2, 2007

Hi,

When you check out the project properties of a RS project, you can find the deployment attributes like targetdatasourcefolder, etc... There's also a button "Configuration Manager...". Here I can see a column "Platform" which is empty. I got the feeling I should be able to configure different platforms here, select an active environment and deploy to it some how. Is this correct; how does this work, and why not?

Flatfiles With Garbage Data

Nov 13, 2006

I was testing my packages today and my packages were running sucessfully when I didnt have any valid data in the flat file. One the reason was as not rows were returned from the flat file none of the validation script components returned any err.

How do I count the # of rows which were read from flat file from the package and continue only if there is more than one row.

I tried using conditional split but as I wont have the row count value availble till the dataflow task runs this didnt help.

Is it best for me to have two dataflow tasks one resturns the count of records from flat file and the other starts if there are any rows. Now my problem is if I have rows to process how to I transfer the flatfile data to validate from DataFlowTask1 to DataFlowTask2?

I have a script task whcih counts the rows and decides to the TaskResult but once the TaskResult is sucess how do I use the values read in DataFlowTask1?

Appreciate ur help in advance

SQL Server Admin 2014 :: How Data Writes In Multiple Secondary Files If There Is No Filegroup Created

Nov 12, 2014

I read , When sql server Database having multiple data files within single filegroup then sql server writes data in multiple proportional file algorithm where the amount of data written to a file is proportionate to the amount of free space in that file, compared to other files in the filegroup.

so if there is no filegroups created and multiple secondary files are attached in databse , is there same way data stored and writes data in multiple files by the same algorithm or any different way.

SSIS Package Won't Run In Production Server

Feb 28, 2006

Hi,

I have a package that I developed on my local machine and runs well. I run
it through the command line on my production server the following way:

D: estCMS_MoveContentToLive>dtexec /f
D: estCMS_MoveContentToLiveCMSMoveIte
mToLive.dtsx -de

The -de option is because i changed the default security protection level of
the package as BOL says that for the default protection level
(EncryptAllWithUserKey): "Only the user who created or exported the package
can open the package in SSIS Designer or run the package by using the dtexec
command prompt utility."

The problem is that the package does not run successfully and vomits a lot
of error message that I do not understand, such as:

<errorMessage>
Error: 2006-02-15 18:13:43.55
Code: 0xC004706E
Source: Data Flow Task DTS.Pipeline

End Error
Error: 2006-02-15 18:13:43.62

Source: Data Flow Task DTS.Pipeline
Description: component "Multicast" (637) failed validation and returned
error
code 0xC0048021.
End Error
</errorMessage>

Notice that at the end it says that the validation failed.

I looked on the internet but I did not found any information regarding this
issue.

I also created a dummy SSIS package that does not have any data flaw but
just have a single SQL task doing a single insert in a table. When i
execute it on the production server, it runs successfully!

Then what is wrong with my "complex" package that all the data flow
components seems to: "can not be located, even though it is registered." ???
To be exact, I have an error for all the data flow components except the
script component.

Thanks for any help.

Best regards,

Francois Malgreve

PS:

I also would like to mention that on my production server, only the SSIS
service is installed, not SQL Server itself.
When you run the setup of SQL 2005, it is indeed possible to install only
the SSIS component which is what I need in my case as SSIS packages are run
from a middle tier server and connect to various DBs.

I think this is important as I just discovered that the package can run
successfully when I run it on a server which has a full version of SQL
Server 2005. By that I mean having SQL Database Server + SSIS installed. But it will run only from the command line, if i run it from an asp.net application it won't run successfully and return the same kind of error i showed in this message. in a desesparate attempt to solve my problem, I granted more rights to the ASPNET user and NETWORK_SERVICE user by adding them in the administrator group as I quite believe it might be related to security as on that server it works well from the command line. But it did not help.

Permissions To Deploy SSIS Package To SQL Server

Jan 31, 2008

What are the minimum permissions required to deploy an SSIS package to SQL Server? Here is what I have tried:

1. No additional permissions (i.e user created with no special permissions):

Deployment Error: No execute permissions on sp_put_package???

2. Dbowner role on msdb dataabase

Deployment Error: The SaveToSQLServer method has encountered OLE DB error code 0x80040E14 (Access to Integration Services package 'xxx' is denied.). The SQL statement that was issued has failed.

3. Sqladmin role on login: No errors

Most DBAs are reluctant to give sqladmin role to developers. Is there any way around this restriction?

When I am deploying the package on SQL Server 2005 its showing me the error with connection. on 64bit Oracle Net manager showing its able to connect oracle successfully. I think actually the problem is with encryption, as the package is developed on 32bit machine, therefore all connection strings are encrypted for that machine. Is there some has faced same issue? please help!

Package Is Missing The Password When I Deploy It To SQL Server SSIS Instance

Apr 16, 2008

Hi there,

Something a little wride mysterious is happening with my package when I deploy it to run at the SSIS server instance. Everytime that I try to deploy it (from my local development environment) to SSIS server, my package is not keeping its database user and password.

As the database user and password are the same one we dont need to use the XML setting to keep these data there.

So, does anyone know what could be happening with my package and/or my deployment?

Thank you,

The UI is the biggest disaster I have ever seen. Getting rid of the SQL Query analyzer tool was a TERRIBLE idea. The UI is buggy and unfriendly. It is a major POS. I hope someone in the SQL Dev team is listening / reading this post (hellooooo anybody homeee......)
Now that I have vented my frustration ...

Data Collection On Production Server To Capture Growth Rates

Mar 18, 2015

I setup data collection on a production server to capture growth rates.

When I run the dis usage report, it shows a daily growth rate of over 500 megs. This seems excessive to me.

As a troubleshooting step I then ran sp_space used and got these results:

database_namedatabase_sizeunallocated space
rgc_prod 273442.63 MB3648.48 MB

reserved data index_size unused
265345488 KB164385384 KB99826072 KB1134032 KB

What should my next steps be to try and determine why there is so much growth? And isn't the index size rather large?

Moving Just Data Between A Production Server & Test Server

We have both a production SQL 7 server, QA, and Development. From time to time, I want to move just the data from the production server to the other 2 servers without modifing the objects that may have been changed such as stored procedures and rights. Is there a way using the SQL tools provided that we can just move the data. Becuase also what happens is that the rights to the objects change which means my developers no longer have access to the tables for selects in QA since the changes where overwritten by production where they do not have the rights.

Got An Expensive Server, SQL Is Very Slow On Writes

Feb 2, 2004

Hi,

i am experiencing SQl write performance problems on a very shiny server. Got data files on a Raid 1+0, log files on a separate drive, all SCSI, Win2003 server, 6G RAM, 2 Xeon processors. I've created a small benchmarking program and run it on my desktop pc and this 'big' server. Here are the results:

Desktop: SQL server inserts: 78 Seconds, Direct writes to the harddisk(Just write a string to the file 10000 times): 13 seconds

SQLServer: SQL server inserts: 422 Seconds, Direct writes to the harddisk: 16 seconds

So, for some reason, my 'shiny' machine is 6 times slower on writes than my desktop. When i tried comparing the select performance, my shiny server is 10 times faster than my desktop.

Initially i had Raid5 on my server and it had poorer direct write performance but now, direct writes seem to be ok, so, i recon this is a problem related to SQL server.

What can i do to improve the insert performance?

Thanks in advance

SQL Server 2008 :: High Volume Reads And Writes?

Jul 6, 2015

We are in the process of moving existing clustered SQL server databases to AWS. There is one major database that has intensive reads and writes transactions. I'm wondering what is the best design to optimize the performance for both R/W since we have constant issues historically with the current environment when massive updates are happening. Reads shall have higher priority over writes.

SQL Server Admin 2014 :: Indexes With More Writes Than Reads

Jul 17, 2015

I have inherited a database that is over-indexed, i.e. there are sometimes 10-20 indexes on a table. The performance is at times not great due to blocking from long running queries. I want to clean up the indexes as a starting point.

Through a query I found some time ago on the SQLCat blog I have discovered a large number of indexes in the database that have a huge disparity between reads and writes. The range of difference is sometimes almost 2 million more writes than reads. Should I just drop the indexes that have say, more than 100,000 more writes than reads and then see what the Missing Index DMVs tell me after a few days of running without those indexes?

In some cases there are a few hundred thousand reads but maybe a million writes on the index. Thus, there are a fair number of reads happening, just not in comparison to the number of writes. In some cases there are almost no reads and a million or more writes. I am obviously dropping those indexes. I just am not sure what to do about the indexes that do have a fair number of reads.

What Is The Best Way To Achieve Best Latency For Reads And Writes To SQL Server 2005?

Oct 18, 2007

I am looking into various options to improve latency of our application (we figured the latency is mainly because data persistence - writes and reads from DB). I am looking into In-Memory databases also. But, before making that decision (of using in memory databases), I would like to see if there is a way to configure SQL Server 2005 to get as close performance as in-memory databases?

My question:
1. Is there a way that I can configure SQL Server 2005 to use a CACHE that gets loaded as needed basis, so that future database reads/writes will happen to the cache as opposed to disk (db writes)?
2. Is SQL Server 2005 recoverable in such configurations?
3. Are there any ideas/resources where I can get more details? (Such as sample configurations with bench mark numbers, rpevious experiences..etc)

Thanks

Which Is Best Way To Deploy SSIS Packages?

Sep 7, 2007

I have 9 Dimensions and 16 Fact Packages in my SSIS Project. All these 25 packages uses one source (SQLServer A - staging) and a seperate destination (SQlServer B - Warehouse) . I have completed my development. Now i want to move these packages to production environment. I have a Parent package to control all these facts and Dimensions.

1. Should I always change the Protection level of the Package to "DontSaveSensitive" before moving to some other machine where it has to run under a different user?

2. Which is the best way to follow for configuring the connection strings in my development?
Having a variable for each connection string @ parent project level and pass it to child packages
or
Configure the connection strings directly in a XML config file for one package and in all my other packages i have to say the package to Reuse the existing config file as the source and dest is same for all these packages?

And am hearing one more buzz word "Proxies for running SSIS packages". Any information on this also will help me.

Please help!!!
