Problem Downloading The Snapshot Agent In A Merge Pull Subscription.

Jun 21, 2007

Hello.

I've been having an error when downloading the snapshot agent from our Publisher.

The articles selected are all the tables and all the stored procedures.

The Subscription is created programmatically and so is the synchronization. When trying to synchronize for the first time and when the subscriber tries to download the snapshot I have the following error:

Error messages:
The schema script 'Distrito_2.sch' could not be propagated to the subscriber. (Source: MSSQL_REPL, Error number: MSSQL_REPL-2147201001)
Get help: http://help/MSSQL_REPL-2147201001
The process could not read file 'GESZifuncAFRODITE$SILVITEST_GESZIF_GESZIF20070621182845Distrito_2.sch' due to OS error 3. (Source: MSSQL_REPL, Error number: MSSQL_REPL20143)
Get help: http://help/MSSQL_REPL20143
The system cannot find the path specified.
(Source: MSSQL_REPL, Error number: MSSQL_REPL3)
Get help: http://help/MSSQL_REPL3

The snapshot folder is at c:GESZifSnapshotFolder and the unc is \AfroditeSnapshot.

I'm getting a little desperate with this because we really need to propagate the schema changes around the subscribers.

Thanks in advance,

AVD

Transactional Replication - Pull Subscription Snapshot Being Applied Continuously

Jan 25, 2007

Hi

We have setup transactional replication between 2 databases on SQL Server 2000 SP3a (~70GB), using a concurrent snapshot (to prevent locking out of the live database) to initilaise the data and a pull subscription from the second database.

From analysing the msdistribution_history table in the distribution database on the subscriber it appears that the snapshot is being applied in a continuous loop to the subscriber database. Viewing the comments column in the msdistribution_history table we can see the following sequence of events occuring

Initialising
Applied script 'snapshot.pre'
Then it applies all the schema files .sch
Then it applies all the index files .idx
The it bulk copies the data in (bcp)
Then it creates the Primary Keys
Then it applies all the trigger files .trg
Then it applies all the referential integrity files .dri

These all complete successfully but then the process kicks off again immediately after reapplying the snapshot. We are unaware of any settings that may be causing this.

Any help on what maybe causing this would be much appreciated.

SQLEXPRESS Merge Pull Subscription

Feb 2, 2007

Hi all I have a question,

I am trying to enable a replication process between a SQL 2005 server and sqlexpress instances and i run into the following problem.

On the publisher a subscription (sp_addmergesubscription) is added for each 'machine' that participates in the replication. Is there a way to get around this?

Because when we distribute the installation we dont know all the machine names. I have made the publication accesible for anynymous access. But when the replication script is installed on the client ,the Error message that the subscription does not exists appears.

The only difference between the instal script for the client is that we do not add a sp_addmergesubscription on the server. Is it possible to let SQL server make an subscription when the client connects for the first time?

To summarize my question: Is there a way to enable the replication with only running a script on the client and not on the server?

If i need to explain it more in detail , just let me know and ill try

Initializing A Merge Subscription Without A Snapshot Bugs

Feb 21, 2007

Hello guys,

We have customers that are using web synchronization. Could you, please tell us when service pack for the bugs, discussed in thread http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=689428&SiteID=1 will be reliazed?

What replication participants should apply the service pack in a configuration where Subscriber (MS SQL 2005 Express) gets synchronized with Publisher/Diustributor (MS SQL 2005 Standard)?

Thanks.

Snapshot Agent Fails For Merge Replication Publication

Nov 9, 2006

I'm trying to setup merge replication and get the following error from the snapshot agent after I've finished the 'New Publication Wizard'. This doesn't make sense to me as it is an automatic process. Also, it looks like it is complaining about a 'dbo.MSmerge_cont...' view which is a view created automatically for the merge publication.

Timing Out On Downloading Snapshot ?

Feb 26, 2006

Hi

This is to do with HTTPS merge replication. We were getting an error when downloading the initial snapshot. The snapshot was about 25 meg, over an average link. It returned an error after a few minutes - it did start to download the .cab file (it was compressed).

By not compressing the cabinet file, it worked fine - I can only presume it was some sort of timeout error. The downside was that the amount of data was much greater, with it not being compressed.

Questions therefore are:
a) is this time of timeout a known condition and if so what can I do about it

b) slightly unrelated- can an alternate location be given for the snapshot, like you can in non-HTTPS anonymous subscriptions.

Main properties in creating the subscription is as follows:

subscription.InternetUrl = webSyncUrl
subscription.InternetSecurityMode = AuthenticationMethod.BasicAuthentication
subscription.SubscriberType = MergeSubscriberType.Anonymous
subscription.SyncType = SubscriptionSyncType.None

and when synchronising....

subscription = New MergePullSubscription()
agent = subscription.SynchronizationAgent
agent.PublisherSecurityMode = SecurityMode.Standard
agent.DistributorSecurityMode = SecurityMode.Standard
agent.UseWebSynchronization = True
agent.InternetSecurityMode = SecurityMode.Standard

Thanks
Bruce

Error Downloading Initial Snapshot

Aug 29, 2007

Hi,

I'm merge replicating between SQL Server 2005 and SQL Server Compact on mobile devices. I recently had a problem with reinitialization of subscriber databases (please see my previous post, no responses yet...) which I couldn't resolve and had to get 15 subscribers to backup their dbs so I could manually restore each one onto the server. Most of the subscribers were able (yesterday) to then delete their local dbs, create new db files and sync with a snapshot. Today I'm trying to sync a new db with a newly created snapshot and getting the following errors:

2007/08/29 16:23:17 Thread=1118 RSCB=67 Command=SCHK Hr=8004563C An error occurred while reading the .bcp data file for the 'MSmerge_rowtrack' article. If the .bcp file is corrupt, you must regenerate the snapshot before initializing the Subscriber. -2147199428
2007/08/29 16:23:17 Thread=1118 RSCB=67 Command=SCHK Hr=80045017 The merge process was unable to deliver the snapshot to the Subscriber. If using Web synchronization, the merge process may have been unable to create or write to the message file. When troubleshooting, restart the synchronization with verbose history logging and specify an output file to which to write. -2147201001

The only difference from yesterday is that there was a server restart this morning. I have regenerated the snapshot but it still doesn't work. This is only affecting users with new (empty) databases, users who regenerated their dbs yesterday can sync ok.

I have read other posts about folder/file permissions affecting snapshot delivery, but there have been no changes to permissions since successful snapshot deliveries yesterday.

I would really appreciate any help with this. At the moment I have 3 users who can't use the system at all.

Regards,

Greg

Merge Replication Downloading Old Data To The Suscriber

Oct 16, 2006

I'm having an error with merge replication my suscriber are downloading old data, all this start happen after I install SP4.

let explaint this with more details ,

if a made an update to a row in a table from the publisher , the agent history show that 1 change have downloaded to the suscriber, a put an audit in the suscriber and yes one update was downloaded but the row still the same, look like the suscriber downloaded old data instead of the curent change that i made.

If i delete the row, the rows gets delete at the suscriber, if a insert the row the row get insterted ok.

The problem only happen with rows inserted at the suscriber, that later on get update at the publisher. My suscriber has MSDE 2000 SP3 an my Server has SQL Enterprice 2000 SP4.

Any help would be apreciate. thxs.

Merge Replication Downloading Rows Immediately After Uploading SQL 2005

Jan 9, 2007

Hi

I have noticed that four out of the 145 tables being replicated in my topology perform a mysterious update.

If I insert data at the subscriber then synchronise the upload is completed followed by immediate downloading of the same identical set of rows as updates.

Has anyone seen anything like this. I cannot see any difference in the filter joins or article settings compared to any other table in the system but these four consistently do this.

Publisher/Distributor: SQL 2005 SP1 on Win 2003 Server
Subscriber: SQL Express 2005 SP1 on Win XP SP2

Snapshot Agent && Log Reader Agent Will Not Start.

Nov 30, 2006

Hi All,

I would appreciate any help here at all. I am pulling my hair out!

I am unable to start the snapshot agent or log reader agent from within SQL management studio. it fails on executing step 2 with unknown username or bad password.

I have checked all account details and they are correctly using my domain admin account. I can connect to SQL using teh same account and it also has sysadmin permissions.

If i copy the step 2 paramters and start from the cmd prompt (again logged in using the same domain account) they both start fine.

Any ideas would be gratefully received.

For some wierd reason I cannot get the Log Reader Agent and snapshot agent to start. The domain account under which SQL Server Agent runs has administrator previlage on the box. I also use a domain account for SQL Server Service. (none of the passwords changed).

This is the error I am getting - "Executed as user: abc. A required privilege is not held by the client. The step failed"

Any ideas???

Also this domain account is a member of

The file mentioned above is created, so perhaps it fails trying to create a file for the next table.

Pull Subscription Initialisation

Sep 14, 2006

Hi there all

I have a problem creating a pull merge subscription on a server that's outside of our firewall. All standard ports are blocked so MS UNC connections are not possible which SQL 2000 uses by default when creating a subscription. Equally FTP is out = insecure.

I found a procedure to that said create the snapshot of the publication, create a backup of the published database, restore that backup to the remote server as a subscription db and then sync using merge. Didn't work, failed (several times).

Can anyone enlighten me as to what I'm doing wrong or indeed if I'm doing anything correctly!

I can create a remote desktop (Term Server) connection to the remote and another back to the publisher (from the subscriber's desktop) and both connections are using SSH tunnels. SQL Server uses a non standard port to communicate over the firewall. The remote server sits behind another firewall/router with port redirection to it's private address. Each server has the other registered and there are no comms problems and indeed there are other replicated dbs between them.

Both servers are win 2003 and the remote (subscriber) is R2 version, both with SQL 2000 Server Std patched up to SP3. (if this has any bearing on the solution which I presume there is)

Many thanks for listening and I hope a few of you can answer as well

Craig

Creating Pull Subscription Using T-SQL

Hello,

i am trying to create a pull subscription to my publication using T-SQL. The pull subcription is created successfully but the problem is that data is not merged correctly. I mean when i run the agent ( despite of having data in subscription / publication ) the data is not merged and i get "No Data Needed To Be Merged" message.

i run following sp in this sequence:

At Subscrber:

1 - sp_addmergepullsubscription
2 - sp_addmergepullsubscription_agent

At Publisher:

1 - sp_addmergesubscription

Again at subscriber :

Push And Pull Subscription?

Sep 20, 2005

As I understand replication in Sql2K the only difference in push or pull subscriptions is where the agent runs. If I wanted changes in the publisher to be sent to the subscribers immediately after the change then I thought push would be better. But, if I am equally interested in changes made at the subscriber then what should I use? Or does the agent monitor both the publisher and subscriber at the same time?

Pull Subscription For Transactional Replication

Jan 5, 2005

I have setup a pull subscription on the subscriber for transactional replication. The distribution job continues to run, but doesn't do anything because it says: The initial snapshot for publication 'man4' is not yet available.

How can I tell if the snapshot is running, and can I see the snapshot where it was created?

Stopping And Starting Pull Subscription

Feb 1, 2007

Say we need to replicate between 2 databases using transactional replication

So we create a publication on the first server and initialse the publication agent so that it takes a snapshot and starts the log reader to capture the transactions being keyed into it.

Then say we create a pull subscription from the second database but lets say we assume we already have the data from thepublication database already in it so no need to app,ly a snapshot over it, when the pull subscription starts we assume that only transactions in the log reader that occured AFTER the pull subscription was started would be applied. Is this correct?

Then say we need to stop the pull subscription for a short period then start it again (let say so that we can take a back up of the subscriber database and restore the database somewhere else and replication set up between these 2 with no chance of data being althered before the restore had finished) can someone confirm when we start the pull subscription again all the transactions that occurred during the stopped period will be applied when it is started again OR will it be the case that only the transactions since the pull subscription was restarted will be applied

Cheers

Matt

Push And Pull Subscription From Publisher/Distributor?

May 30, 2001

Hi All,

Can push and pull subscriptions be configured on the publisher/distributer server?

We have server A running SQL Server 2000 configured as Publisher/Distributor and also a Push subscription (transactional replication) to Server B configured as Subscriber.

The idea was to have Server B as backup server if Server A goes down. Users will continue to update data in server B till server A is up.

Once server A is up, I want to synchronise the up-to-minuit date from Server B to Server A in the form of Transactional replication configured as "Pull Subscription" from Server A.

Is that possible?

Thanks
Sri

Using REPLMERG For Web Synchronization Of Anonymous Pull Subscription

Mar 23, 2007

Hello,

I tried to use REPLMERG utility for Web synchronization and got the following error message in log file:

2007-03-23 14:35:10.484 The subscription to publication 'X' could not be verified. Ensure that all Merge Agent command line parameters are specified correctly and that the subscription is correctly configured. If the Publisher no longer has information about this subscription, drop and recreate the subscription.

The case description is as the following:

REPLMERG utility command line:

"C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server90COMREPLMERG.EXE" -ExchangeType 3 -Publication X -

Publisher B01 -Subscriber 127.0.0.1SQLEXPRESS -Distributor B01 -PublisherDB DBS -

SubscriberDB DBS -PublisherSecurityMode 1 -Output C:TempDBS.log -OutputVerboseLevel 2 -

SubscriberSecurityMode 0 -SubscriberLogin Operator -SubscriberPassword XXX -

SubscriptionType 2 -DistributorSecurityMode 1 -Validate 3 -InternetURL

https://www.company.com/Synch/replisapi.dll -InternetSecurityMode 0 -InternetLogin USER1 -

InternetPassword PWD1 -SubscriberType 0

The subscription to the publication X has been created with the following T-SQL script:

USE DBS

EXEC sp_addmergepullsubscription

@publisher = N'B01',

@publication = N'X',

@publisher_db = N'DBS',

@subscriber_type = N'anonymous',

@sync_type = N'automatic',

@subscription_priority = 0.0;

I've also tried to check subscription information on the server 127.0.0.1SQLEXPRESS using the following:

sp_helpsubscription_properties N'B01', N'DBS', N'X'

but the result set is empty. When I run sp_helpsubscription_properties

I get the same empty result. But the subcription is anonymous and when I synchronize it using RMO - it works.

Could you please advice what could cause the problem?

Thank you.

Alexander.

Merge Repliction - Run Stored Procedure When Merge Agent Starts

Jul 23, 2005

I have database on SQL Server 2000 set up with a merge publication.This publication is configured with a number of dynamic filters toreduce the amount of data sent to each client. Each client has ananonymous pull subscription. The merge process can be triggered by thewindows sync manager and my application.To improve performance I have created some helper tables to hold themapping between user login and primary keys of selected entities.For the replicated data to be correct the contents of the helper tablesneeds to be up to date.I need to fire off a stored procedure on the publisher beforereplication starts to verify that this data is up to date. I can notsee any documented way of doing this however I have been experimentingwith some unorthodox systems.Firstly has anyone any ideas?I have been considering adding a trigger to some of the tables used bythe Microsoft replication code - yes I know this is very nasty.My problems arise because executing this stored procedure will causesome data to be updated. In updating data we could create a newgeneration in the database. I must therefore run my stored procedurebefore any the Microsoft code makes any generation checks / updates.Anyone done anything similar, Anyone have any better ideas?Any comments would be gratefully received.

Subscription Without Snapshot Doesn't Work

Feb 26, 2007

Hi all,

I'm very very frustrated with this problem, I used to give maintenance to my database replication, disabling distribution and establishing the publications and subscriptions again from zero. This way metadata were clean up, and I was sure of that. When I migrated to MS SQL2005 I can't do this anymore, because drop rowguidcol at subscribers and publisher. The DB average size is 15 GB. And now this weekend I found the problem where the subscription try to apply the whole snapshot (15 GB! ).

I don't know what to do

PD Sorry for my english.
