Reserving Concurrent Users In MSSQL 2000

Does anyone know how to reserve a number of concurrent user licenses /per server logins in MSSQL 2000? I have a situation where I have more users than I have licenses for an enterprise SQL application and would like to make sure that a certain group of users always has access to the system. Individuals who only need inquiry access should only be allowed to login if there are licences available beyond the core group of users. Any Ideas? Thanks.

How many concurrent users do you think standard edtion can handle in a Dual Xeon 2.8 with 2GB ram ?
Enterprise is very expensive. sucks that standard can't handle more than 2GB Ram

Hello,
I think now MS SQL 2005 support packaging database object into schemas which may be granted access by any of the db users, while SQL 2000 only we could use the database creator user instead of schema. my case is i am working in a system with more than one module, e.g. HR + TaskManagemt.
Both HR and TaskManagement objects are in the same database, and there are some common objects.
I want to isolate the HR objects from the TaskManagemt objects, so i can package any module separated from the other, suppose i want to buy only the HR module, so that i want only to exctract the HR Object + the common objects but not the TaskManagement objects.
So how can i accomplish such operations using SQL 2005 schemas AND using SQL 2000 users.
P.S. i have two servers one with 2000 and the other with 2005, so i want to find solutions for both 2000 and 2005

There was a 5 concurrent user limitation in MSDE (the version prior to SQL Express). Does that same limitation exist with SQL Express 2005?

Hi
I need some rough figures for replication performance. Can anyone give an idea of the number of concurrent subscribers a single IIS server can safely handle before having to move to load balancing with multiple IIS servers.
I would estimate the average daily row changes to be in the region of 500 to 2500 per subscriber.
Any ideas?

We are running three web sites in a clustered environmentWLBS. The web servers are connected to a Database Serverrunning MS SQL server enterprise edition licensed as perCPU license. We had no problems during testing, when only one user was running this dll. Problems soon occurred when multiple users tried running it. I am researching this and playing with using the syss.sysprocesses view and counting the dbid column. I would most likely want to store this information in a table with a date/time stamp because we really want to track our concurrent users during the day for awhile. Do you have any neat tricks in getting this done? Is there a DMV or Information_Schema view that could be used to accomplish this task? I found the following code on the internet:

There are a series of traces of transactions for essentially the same units of work. Each includes a retrieving the same table "Select" from the database. The first 4 transactions ran concurrently. The last one ran about 7 minutes later with no other concurrent transactions.
The elapsed times for the database accesses for each of the first 4 is significantly higher than the last one.
Can you think of any database optimazation that might improve this?
Are there any utilities available than can be used for stand-alone testing of SQL Server database performance?
E.G. they would measure response time for reading/writing large/small amounts of canned data once/multiple times with concurrent/nonconcurrent access.
SQL Server Database is on 2000.I am not sure about the ISOLATION level in the Java code.
Basically I am new to SQL Sever....Please ans the above questions and provide me the direction to proceed on these questions

Hi,
I am a bit new to the MSSQL server. In our application, we use so many SQL queries. To imporve the performance, we used the Database enigine Tuning tool to create the indexes. The older version of the application supports MSSQL 2000 also. To re-create these new indexes, I have an issue in running these "CREATE INDEX" commands as the statements generated for index creation are done in MSSQL 2005. The statements include "INCLUDES" keyword which is supported in MSSQL 2005 but not in MSSQL 2000.
Ex:-
CREATE INDEX IND_001_PPM_PA ON PPM_PROCESS_ACTIVITY
(ACTIVITY_NAME ASC, PROCESS_NAME ASC, START_TIME ASC, ISMONITORED ASC)
INCLUDE
(INSTANCE_ID, ACTIVITY_TYPE, STATUS, END_TIME, ORGANIZATION);
Any help in creating such indexes in 2000 version is welcome.

I've been tasked to move our production databases on MSSQL 2000 to 2005. I've supported MSSQL since version 6.5 and performed migrations to successor versions.
Current Environment is MSSQL 2000 32-bit with current Service Packs.
I've performed mock migrations on Test servers upgrading all Production instances simultaneously from MSSQL 2000 to 2005 32-bit. The Test environment is identical to Production minus server name, IP etc. Also I have a separate server with MSSQL 2005 installed where I use the DETACH / ATTACH and BACKUP / RESTORE method for migration / acceptance testing. There are approximately 30 databases totaling 70 GB. This has gone as expected and fairly successful. Vendors have been coordinated with to update code and staff for acceptance testing.
I'd prefer going directly to MSSQL 2005 64-bit instead if possible due to memory benefits etc. This is where I'd like some feedback prior to borrowing a 64-bit server for testing.
Upgrade options:
1. Is it better to migrate from MSSQL 2000 32-bit to 2005 64-bit via:
a. DETACH / ATTACH
b. BACKUP / RESTORE
c. Is one method more advantageous relating to the end result?
2. Regarding XP clients, have issues been experienced with the default SQL Server driver or is an alternate recommended for XP clients to connect to a MSSQL 64-bit server databases?
3. If you have performed this migration and have relevant experience please pass them along.

I have a NT Group of users that need to connect to MSSQL db using integrated auth and run a stored proc. I have got this concept to work for individual windows users but not a group.
Does anyone have any ideas?

Hi, I wanted to see what are all the users in a windows nt group that has a group access to sql server 2000. I have a windows 2000 group access to sqlserver 2000 as "xxxsomegroup". How can I list all users that belongs to this windows 200 group? is there any stored procedure to find out this?

Writing to tables created by regular users on MSSQL2005
I have users creating tables through an application, I gave them ddl_admin, datareader, datawriter. They can create tables but cannot insert/update data (to their own tables), I cannot insert data either using Access or any other application to those tables created by them (under dbo schema) Is there something I am missing with permissions? I have installed a new SQL 2005 server and successfully moved a db from one to the other. The users from that db were also imported, but the system security was not. Users cannot access the SQL system to even attempt to login to the db. What am I missing to import/transfer/migrate the system logins from SQL2000 to SQL2005?
