I have two tables and I want to return data from both. Currently my select statement is returning just 1 child record for each parent record and I want to return all child records that match the parent record.
This is probably very elementary to someone more experienced, but I'm having a hard time coming up with a way to do the following:
SELECT * FROM Transactions WHERE MyField LIKE (SELECT MyValues FROM SearchValues)
But I can't because the subquery will return multiple rows. That's all I'm really trying to do - search all the rows in Transactions.MyField for any of the search values returned from the subquery.
And I can't restructure the SearchValues table to combine them into a single-row comma-delimited field or anything like that.

In my code for the procedure which returns a single value i use (executescalar) which works fine. We have an archive table which keeps each instance of a sales order that was archived under a "Verion No" field. Each time the sales order is archived it is entered into the archive tables (Sales Header Archive, Sales Line Archive). What I am trying to do is write a query to return all sales orders but only the most recent archived version.
For example this table layout is similar to what I am working with. Version No, Order No and Customer No. are the keys between the Header and Line tables, Customer Name column in the output is from only the Sales Header Archive table
SALES LINE ARCHIVE TABLE Version No - Order No. - Customer No -----> (other columns) 1 s-5 1000

It should return the last Version No of each Sales order.
Does that make sense? It is something probably easy... But, I've spent two days using multiples and multiples of different ways, that just aren't working: I'm about to dropkick my server cabinet...

When I run it I get the following error: "Violation of PRIMARY KEY constraint 'PK__#LatLong__________7CE3D9D4'. Cannot insert duplicate key in object 'dbo.#LatLong'."
Im not sure how this is failing as when I try creating another table with 2 decimal columns and repeated values, select distinct only returns distinct pairs of values.
The failure may be related to the fact that RGCcache has about 10 million rows, but I can't see why.

Last Name and FirstName are two separate columns in the DB_Users table, while City and PhoneNumber are both values of the same column DB_UserProfile.PropertyValue located in separate rows defined by an ID in the DB_UserProfile.PropertyDefinitionID column.

I have an SQL 2000 server. I have multiple tables in the db that have a row with a time stamp of '10-23-2007'. What I am trying to do is delete these specific rows because they don't belong. So I need to query the db for table names that are like 'elect_Sub%' and then execute a query on those tables that would delete the row with the time_stamp '10-23-2007'. Hi, I have a relational database with the primary table, table01. And 2 child/foreign tables, table02 and table03. All 3 tables shared the same key - [ID]. I am not sure if this is the correct approach but I am trying to create a stored procedure where if I were to delete a the row in table01 (primary), the procedure will automatically delete the common row in both table02 and table03. I have come up with something like that but it does not seems to be correct. I have a form to assign JOB SITES to previously created PROJECT. The JOB SITES appear in the DataList as it varies based on customer. It can be 3 to 50 JOB SITES per PROJECT. I have "PROJECT" table with all necessary fields for project information and "JOBSITES" table for job sites. I also created a new table called "PROJECTSITES" which has only 2 columns: "ProjectId" and "SiteId". What I am trying to do is to insert multiple rows into that "PROJECTSITES" table based on which checkbox was checked. The checkbox is located next to each site and I want to be able to select only the ones I need. Btw the Datalist is located inside of a formview and has it's own datasource which already distincts which JOBSITES to display. Sample: ProjectId - SiteId 1 - 5 1 - 9 1 - 16 1 - 18 1 - 20 1 - 27 1 - 31 ProjectId stays the same, only values for SiteId are being different. I hope I explaining it right. Do I have to use some sort of loop to go through the automatically populated DataList records and how do I make a multiple inserts to database table? We use SQL Server 2005 and VB for code behind. We have the below query which is pulling in Sales and Revenue information. Since the sale is recorded in just one month and the revenue is recorded each month, we need to have the results of this query to only list the Sales amount once, but still have all the other revenue amounts listed for each month. In this example, the sale is record in year 2014 and month 10, but there are revenues in every month as well for the rest of 2014 and the start of 2015 but we only want to the sales amount to appear once on this results set.
I want to count the rows in the Incident Table by using filters to limit the rows to be counted if they meet the below conditions. I know I need a logical test for each row of the incident table based on the apparatus table’s rows. But, I want to test for each row in the incident table, counting, but not returning a true or false in the overall measure.Something like look at each incident row, test for true or false and then count IF the statement is true. Hi! I have a general SQL CE v3.5 design question related to table/file layout. I have an system that has multiple tables that fall into categories of data access. The 3 categories of data access are:
1 is for configuration-related data. There is one application that will read/write to the data, and a second application that will read the data on startup.
1 is for high-performance temporal storage of data. The data objects are all the same type, but they are our own custom object and not just simple types.
1 is for logging where the data will be permanent - unless the configured size/recycling settings cause a resize or cleanup. There will be one application writing alot [potentially] of data depending on log settings, and another application searching/reading sections of data. When working with data and designing the layout, I like to approach things from a data-centric mindset, because this seems to result in a better performing system. That said, I am thinking about using 3 individual SDF files for the above data access scenarios - as opposed to a single SDF with multiple tables. I'm thinking this would provide better performance in SQL CE because the query engine will not have alot of different types of queries going against the same database file. For instance, the temporal storage is basically reading/writing/deleting various amounts of data. And, this is different from the logging, where the log can grow pretty large - definitely bigger than the default 128 MB. So, it seems logical to manage them separately.
I would greatly appreciate any suggestions from the SQL CE experts with regard to my approach. If there are any tips/tricks with respect to different data access scenarios - taking into account performance, type of data access, etc. - I would love to take a look at that.
I need to run a select statement that only returns 50 rows. How do I limit the amount of rows returned? Normally the query will return hundreds of rows but all I need is the first 50 it retrieves. I have looked in the BOL and can only find help with a block cursor not just a query.
Is there a way to create a query that will return only 1 row within a join for example:

I dont have too much of a problem with joins... however I was wondering if there was a mechanism to just specify what would be the top most record from a join clause.

I have a stored procedure below that returns a table of coaches. It worked before now it does not. It returns nothing, in vistual studio 2005 and on my asp.net webpage. But when I execute it in query analyzer with just SELECT * FROM Coaches it returns the rows. There is no error just will not return what I need. the reason i am tring to do this is so if i can find out the amount of rows before sqldatasource selects for details view then i can make the sqldataesource select depends on total minus 5 so e.g. if total 200 then - 5 so i can select bottom 195 so it misses top 5 for details view any1 any ideas? I was racking my brains trying to figure out why SomeCommand.ExecuteNonQuery() was not returning any rows... SQL Server 2005 likes to put the SET NOCOUNT ON statement in every stored procedure you write. By hiding the count of records touched by your query, you also disable the results to be consumed by your application. So I don't recommend using this statement for your stored procedures and ASP.NET applications, as this functionality is fairly critical for error trapping.
