I am currently seaching a db for all tables that have the same column name, for example, 'qdate'. Can anyone let me know how I can write a script that will search a db for all tables with this column name 'qdate'?
Stepping thru the code with the debugger shows the dataset rows being deleted.
After executing the code, and getting to the page presentation. Then I stop the debug and start the page creation process again ( Page_Load ). The database still has the original deleted dataset rows. Adding rows works, then updating works fine, but deleting rows, does not seem to work.
The dataset is configured to send the DataSet updates to the database. Use the standard wizard to create the dataSet.

I have an SQL 2000 server. I have multiple tables in the db that have a row with a time stamp of '10-23-2007'. What I am trying to do is delete these specific rows because they don't belong. So I need to query the db for table names that are like 'elect_Sub%' and then execute a query on those tables that would delete the row with the time_stamp '10-23-2007'. I know that I have to use the db schema to get the table names, but I need help in writing the sql script that will automatically scroll through the tables.

I am setting up a database which schedules production and tracks inventory of items on a daily basis. The scheduler may put in 100 identical entries (apart from the identity column) of an item with its corresponding quantity. My problem is, if there is a shipment of product (a subtraction of quantity from the database), how can I delete a specified number of rows where the inventory listing is 100,000 pcs? I think the DELETE TOP(r) command will work but I don't know how make the command into an actual variable. Maybe there is another way too... My current not-working try; I look at the product desired to delete, figure out how many rows to delete, and since it is not always an integer, figure out a quantity to add back in. The addition part works fine but delete command needs work. Hi, how do i do a select statement with asp.net to return a record if a field is null. I am using VS2005 to construct a website. I have a sql database with 3 datasets. One of the table adapters is called Proudcts and has the following fields. ProductItem, Description, Price, ProductID, PackSizeI want to be able to see a summary of the products (there are thousands of them) using one or more words (or partial words) in one text box to search in only 3 fields (ProductItem, Description, ProductID, ). Is their a way to search every table in a database for a particular character string that might appear in any column in any of the tables?
For example suppose in a hypothetical situation that the character string "http://www.DrSeusOnTheLoose.com" appears randomly in a database, but we do not know which tables it occurs in and in what columns. How can we do a search to find such a character string?
As you know, this is easily accomplished in MS Windows XX or through a dos command line script. But when it comes to searching a whole database, I don't know how to do this. Can someone please help me? Ralph
I am using SQL Server 2012 SE.I am trying to delete rows from a couple of tables (GetPersonValue has 250 million rows and I am trying to delete 50Million rows and GetPerson has 35 Million rows and I am trying to delete 20 million rows). These tables are in TX replication.The plan is to delete data older than 400 days old.
I tried to move data to new tables from the last 400 days and it took me like 11 hours. If I delete data in chunks of 500000 then its taking a long time to rebuild indexes(delete plus rebuild indexes 13 hours). Since I am using standard edition partition wont work.

Our clients want to be able to do full text search with a single letter. (Is the name Newton, Nathan, Nick?, Is the ID N1, N2...). Doing a single character full text search on a table work 25 out of 26 times. The letter that doesn't work is 'n'. the WHERE clause CONTAINS(full_text_field, ' "n*" ') returns all rows, even rows that have no 'n' in them anywhere. Adding a second letter after the "n" works as expected.

Hi there, I have a fairly generic question regarding database design. I am working on my first database using SQL Express. I am testing the database by inserting records into the pre defined tables. Sometimes I forget to input text into a non null field. When this happens it displays an error and then skips a few rows which makes my row numbering messy. For example say I have Row 1, Row 2 Row 3 all nicely formatted but on Row 4 I make a mistake this row then disapears and their is gap between 3 and 5 where 4 was. Although I am just testing, I was wondering what happens in a real scenario if an inexperienced data input person makes a few mistakes it makes the database numbering systems look bad. In this case is it common to make most fields NULL to allow for admin errors??
I am trying to join two tables and looks like the data is messed up. I want to split the rows into columns as there is more than one value in the row. But somehow I don't see a pattern in here to split the rows.

This probably has been addressed before but I was unable to get the search to work properly on this site. I am needing a script/way of deleting all rows from a DB with the exception of one record left for each row that has duplicate column data. Example : Row 1 Field1 = 12345 Field2 =xxxxx Field 3=yyyyy Field4=zzzzz etc. Row 2 Field1 = 12345 Field2 =zzzzzz Field 3=xxxxxx Field4=yyyyyy etc. Row3 Field1 = 12345 Field2 =20202 Field 3=11111 Field4=zzzzz etc. Row 4 Field1 = 54321 Field2 =xxxxx Field 3=yyyyy Field4=zzzzz etc. Etc. Etc.
I want to be able to find the duplicates for Field1 and then delete all but 1 of those rows.( I don't care which one I keep just so only one is left.) The data in the other fields may or may not be unique.

In the flat file SampleID and Product are populated in the first row only, rest of the rows only have values for Rep_Number, Protein, Fat, Solids.
SampleID and Product are blank for the rest of the rows. So my task is to fill those blank rows with the first row that has the sampleID and Product and load into the table.
This is a question that I have not had an opportunity to test. Was wanting to know if anyone in the SQl world knows the answer. In SQL 2K and 2005 your rolls are limited to 8060 bytes without using varchar(MAX). My question is do you have to specify varchar(max) before your roll can exceed 8060 or does SQL 2005 exceed without specifing varchar(Max). Also does it expand it across multiple pages automatically. Please assist if you can.
The database has approx. 2500 temporary tables. The temp tables match a pattern such as APTMP... I tried deleting the tables in SSMS with the statement, Delete from Information_Schema.tables where substring(table_name,1,5) = 'APTMP' This returns the error message"Ad hoc updates to system catalogs are not allowed".
