Package Configuration Xml And Lost Password

Mar 22, 2007

Hi to all!.

I tell you my problem...

I have an DB2 source and SQL destination. I have 2 ConnectionManager. One for DB2 (IBM DB2) and other for SQL. Both are of the OleDB type.

Well. I setup my connections and it work fine. Now i want to change my ConnectionManager for others sources or destinations. And I don't want to have to change the connection in more than forty packages.

For this, i have 2 XML configuration file in package configurations. One for connection. In this XML i have the connectionstring, user and password. These files are obtained in all the packages.

Well. If i change the connectionstring in this XML file configuration, only work fine the OLEDB for SQL. The conection for DB2 return the fail: "The AcquireConnection method call to the connection manager "_packagename_" failed with error code 0xC0202009."

I have proven to modify protectionLevel of the package to DontSaveSensitive. SQL work fine. DB2 fails. I have changed to EncryptSensitiveWithPassword. The same.

Why the packages obtain the data of connection of the configuration file for SQL and it does not work or with the configuration file for DB2.

This is bug?

Thanks to all!.

XML Configuration File : How To Save Password?

Jan 16, 2008

Hm... I use SSIS packages to manipulate some data from one SQL server to another. I chosed "DontSaveSensitiveData" and I am using a XML configuration file.

The problem is I have to edit the file with notepad manually and add the password for my SQLconnections in it.

Is it possible to do this from the Business Intelligence Studio instead?

I tried to edit the connections and set and save password there but it won't save it to the XML configuration file.

Or perhaps it is intended to be edited in notepad and passwords set manually to it?

Is This Cluster Configuration Possible In SQL Server 2000?

Jan 29, 2008

Hi, could someone tell me if this configuration is possible?

Machine A: Instance 1 (ACTIVE) + Instance 2 (passive) + Instance 3 (pasive)
Machine B: Instance 1 (passive) + Instance 2 (ACTIVE) + Instance 3 (pasive)
Machine C: Instance 1 (passive) + Instance 2 (passive) + Instance 3 (ACTIVE)

I know that it is possible with 2 machines with the clasical solution of Machine1: active-passive, Machine2: passive-active, this way if one of the machines goes down the other one will take the job of both instances, but I dont know if this solution is possible in SQL server 2000 with 3 instances at the same time.

Help please? thanks

ODBC Password Not Saved In Configuration File

Apr 19, 2006

Hi,

I have an SSIS package that pipes data from an iSeries data source to a SQL Server table. The connection manager I am using is the .Net ProvidersOdbc Data Provider

When I run this SSIS package on my developer PC (from inside BIDS or using the Management Studio Execute Package Utility) it works. However when I run the package from within a SQL Server Agent Job it fails.

I have enabled logging and the error message given is:
System.Data.Odbc.OdbcException: ERROR [28000] [IBM][iSeries Access ODBC Driver]Communication link failure. comm rc=8002 - CWBSY0002 - Password for user MALLPRESS on server SMICHC is not correct, Password length = 0, Prompt Mode = Never, System IP Address = 172.16.0.4  ERROR [28000] [IBM][iSeries Access ODBC Driver]Communication link failure. comm rc=8002 - CWBSY0002 - Password for user MALLPRESS on server SMICHC is not correct, Password length = 0, Prompt Mode = Never, System IP Address = 172.16.0.4
It gives the message €œPassword length = 0€? despite the fact that I have specified a password in the package.

To try to get around this I have added an XML configuration file to the SSIS package. In this configuration file I€™ve set values for the ConnectionString, UserName, and Password.
I still get the above error about a password length of 0.

I have also tried to execute the package using dtexec, but this gives a similar error.
The SQL used to run this is:
xp_cmdshell 'dtexec /sq "SCSRV-06DTS PackagesStagingStagingBranchImport"'

This has got me stumped, and I€™m not sure where to go from here as these packages need to be programmatically run each morning. At the moment I am manually running them from within BIDS.
All packages that don€™t use an iSeries connection manager run successfully in SQL Agent jobs.
I have also tried using the OLEDB connection manager (ibm db2 udb for iseries ibmda400 ole db provider) without success.

Any help would be very appreciated.

Thanks, Matt

Configuration File For Connection Info (how Do I Set Password)

Oct 27, 2006

Hi All,

I'm new to SSIS. I'm trying to build a simple package, run it on dev and migrate it to our stg and tst environments. It works on my dev environment great! It simply loads data from a flat file into a table. The trouble i'm having is exporting the connection string info to an xml file and runnign it on other environments. I am not storing the package on the db. I am saving to a file and running through SQL Server BI Development Studio.

I go to "Configuration File" and export InitialCatalog, ServerName, User, Password to the file. I can manually change the xml to the new environment but don't know how to set the password. It's not in the xml and i am constantly getting "Login failed for 'sa'" errors. Anyone know how to do this. I CAN get this whole process to work if i use Windows authentication security but this isn't an option. I need to use the db security.

Thanks,
Dave

Enforcing Password Complexity In Sql Server 2000

May 23, 2006

Hi all,

Are there any built-ins, utilities, ... within sql server 2000 that can be used to enforce password complexity in the database. i.e at least 8 characteres, upper and lowercase mix, includes at least on number and one punctuation (underscore,...).

I understand that this requirement can be achieved using windows authentication. Unfortunately we do not have that luxury (at the moment).

How To Migrate Linked Server Configuration SQL 2000 And 2005?

Mar 14, 2007

I plan to migrate a SQL 2000 instance with everything in it to another SQL2000 server, and eventually in the future to SQL 2005.

I've pretty much figured out how to migrate everything execept the linked server configuration (there're many linked servers configured in the old server with different security credentials). I'm wondering if there's way I can save the linked server configuration and restore it to the other server.

Thanks much.

SQL 2000 DTS: Embed UserName/Password To Access File On Non-SQL Server

Feb 23, 2004

I 'completed' a DTS package which uses a file on a non-SQL server. I am about to put this into production, so it runs automatically each evening. but just realized that it won't work unless it signs onto the source file's Windows 2000 server. It works for me when I'm testing it because I am always logged on the the Windows 2000 server.

I have been trying to figure out which DTS task I need to use to establish a connection by embedding my UserName and Password. Any tips woud be apprecitaed.

SQL Server Agent Job Will Not Retain Package Password (encrypt Sensitive With Password)

Apr 1, 2008

I have a package protected by a password - I am already unhappy that to get it to use the configuration file to change connection strings for the production servers I have had to hardcode the password into the config file - very insecure!
However, the package now deploys correctly to the production server and will run from there OK, but NOT if scheduled as a SQL Server Agent Job. Thus is because however often I edit the command line to include the password after the DECRYPT switch (which it has prompted me for when I click on the command line tab), the Job Step will not retain it.
If I open it up after I have edited it and closed it, the password has disappeared.

I know that if I run dtexec plus the code in the Command Line tab (with the password), the package runs OK.

This is driving me insane!
I have read all the other posts and so I tried replacing the SSIS package step with a CmdExec step and pasting that code into there - then I get an OLEDB error..

The code I use is:
DTEXEC /SQL "ImportRateMonitoringTables" /SERVER servername /DECRYPT password /CONFIGFILE "D:Microsoft SQL ServerSSISDeploymentsRateMonitoringImportTasksDeploymentImportRateMonitoringTables_Production.dtsConfig" /MAXCONCURRENT " -1 " /CHECKPOINTING OFF /REPORTING E

and I get

SSIS Error Code DTS_E_OLEDBERROR. An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x8000FFFF

although the same code executes perfectly from a command prompt.

Please does anyone have any experience with a similar problem and if so, how did you get round it?

Thank you

Lost Sa Password... 2005-&>2000 Conversion?

Mar 15, 2007

Hello, I'm running an MS SQL 2005 database which supports our entire website and it's fairly huge. I seem to have lost the sa password for the database.

I COULD get it back if there was a way to convert the SQL 2005 DB to an SQL 2000 DB, seeing as how I found a password cracker for that version. Is there anyway to convert a 2005 DB back to a 2000 DB?

Does anyone have any other ideas they might want to lay on me?

I'm kind of sick about this... I'm usually a really good note-taker; In fact, I do have the sa password recorded in an IT database that I keep. Unfortunately the password just doesn't work. I've tried the caps lock and other variations, but the password just eludes me.

Equivalent To MySQL's Password() Function? (was MySQL To SQL Server And Password())

Mar 3, 2005

I have an internal Project Management and Scheduling app that I wrote internally for my company. It was written to use MySQL running on a Debian server, but I am going to move it to SQL Server 2000 and integrate it with our Accounting software. The part I am having trouble with is the user login portion. I previously used this:

PHP Code:

 $sql = "SELECT * FROM users WHERE username = "$username" AND user_password = password("$password")";

Apparently the password() function is not available when accessing SQL Server via ODBC. Is there an equivalent function I could use isntead so the passwords arent plaintext in the database? I only have 15 people using the system so a blank pwd reset wouldn't be too much trouble.
