SQL Server 2008 :: Identify Columns And / Or Tables From Records

I'm using MS SQL Server 2008 and I'm trying to figure out if it is possible to identify what tables / columns contain specific records.
In the example below information generated for the end user, so the column headers (Customer ID, Customer, Address, Phone, Email, Account Balance, Currency) are not necessarily the field names from the relevant tables, they are simply more identifiable headers for the user.

In reality the column headers may be called eg (CustID, CustName, CustAdr, CustPh, CustMail, CustACBal, Currency).
As I am not the generator of this report, I would like to know whether or not it is possible to identify the field names and / or what tables they exist in, if I were to used the report info to search for it. For example, could I perhaps find out the field name and table for "jd2345" or for "mrx@whoknows.com", because the Customer ID or Email may not be what the actual fields are called.
I'm not a DB admin and I don't have rights to do a stored procedure on the server. I'm guessing what I want is not so simple to do, but is it possible to do via a query?
I have a table of Customers & their data in about 20 Columns.
I have another table that has potential Customers with 3 Columns.
I want to append the records from Table 2 onto Table 1 to the Columns with the same names.
I've thought of using UNION ALL or Select Insert but I'm mainly stuck on the most efficient way to do this.
There is also no related field that can be used to join the data as these Customers in table 2 have no Customer ID yet as they're only potential Customers.
Can I just append the 3 columns from Table 2 to the same 3 columns in table 1?
Is there a script to find which non-clustered indices are replicated? I know i can do this easily through GUI , having a script will make my life much easier ....
I am task with identifying the source database name, id, and server name for each staging table that I create. I need to add this to a derived column on all staging tables created from merging same tables on different servers together.
When doing a Merge Join, there is no way to identify the source of data so I would like to see if data came from one database more than the other servers or if their are duplicates across servers.
The thing that bugs me about SSIS Data Flow task is there is no way to do an easy Execute SQL Task after I select my ADO.NET Source to get this information because my connection string is dynamic and there is no way of know which data source is being picked up at runtime.
For Example I have Products table on Server 1 and 2:
Server 2 has more Products and would like to join the two together to create a staging table.
Is it possible to view the Connection String information of a remote login/session? I want to know if the login is looking-up the database server via IP address, servername (NetBIOS name) or fully-qualified domain name (FQDN).
Using these DMVs I can get a lot of relevant information:
sys.dm_exec_sessions Program Name (eg. Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio), Client Interface Name (eg. .Net SqlClient Data Provider) sys.dm_exec_connections Net Transport (eg. TCP), Client Net Address and TCP Port
but not how the server's IP address was resolved. Is the connection string ever sent by the client to the server, or just used for DNS lookup?
We are doing a review of a SQL 2008 server. Though we can identify what are the linked servers to the database.
However is there a sure shot way to identify, incoming DB links to the database server. I know the successful connections are easy to identify, but I wish to know all possible incoming DB links to server.
Will the DB logs support in identifying all attempted and successful DB link connections.

I'm writing an application using VB 6.0 as the front-end GUI, and theMSDE version of SQL Server as the back-end (it's a program for areally small # of users --- less then 3-4).I'm trying to determine, through the Visual Basic interface, thepermissions of each user that's using the application on his/hermachine.For example, let's say I'm user "Michael" that's sitting down at mymachine using the app. I've written. This case ParentID - Child 1 ,1 & 2,2 and 3,3 records are called as parent where as null , 1 is child whoose parent is 1 similarly null,2 records are child whoose parent is 2 , .....
Now my requirement is to display parent records with value ascending and display next child records to the corresponding parent and parent records are sorted ascending
Table A has columns CompressedProduct, Tool, Operation
Table B in a differnt database has columns ID, Product, Tool Operation
I cannot edit table A. I can select records from A and insert into B. And I can select only the records that are in both tables.
But I want to be able to select any records that are in table A but not in Table B.
ie. I want to select records from A where the combination of Product, Tool and Operaton does not appear in Table B, even if all 3 on their own do appear.
This code return all the records from A. I need to filter out the records found in Table B.

In a job of migrating from an old database to a new one (with other structure, other server, other version) i'm copying from the source old tables and inserting into the new destination tables. The problem is that some records have inconsistencies (of any kind) and thus are not inserted due to foreign key, not null, etc validation. When a problem occurs none record is copied! and there is my question: How can i perform the copy in wich it copies the good records (without inconsistencies) and leave aside the bad records. I also want to know wich were not copied and better if in the copy process those were put in a temp table or exported to excel for further analisys o its data.
I'm using this model of "migration":

It may not have date records which are just string like in this example is 12345678900. I need a SQL script which can identify those records which are not of date type. Please help.
Does anyone know how to identify the hottest, most active tables in adatabase?We have hundreds of users hitting a PeopleSoft database with hundredsof tables. We are I/O bound on our SAN, and are thinking of puttingthe hottest tables on a solid state (RAM) drive for improvedperformance. Problem is: which are the hottest tables? Would like todo this based on hard data instead of developer/vendor guesses.Any suggestions are much appreciated.
I am looking to create a script that will go through a table a pick out the necessary columns to create a unique record. Some of the tables that I am working with have 200 plus columns and I am not sure if I would have to list every column name in the script or if they could be dynamically referenced. I am working with a SQL server that has little next to no documentation and everytime I type to mere some tables, I get too many rows back.
How to identify different fields with in a group of records?

I want to show additional field as Matched as ID 1 has same Text field on both the records, and for the ID 2 I want to show Unmatched as the Text fields are different but with the same ID.
The database I'm currently working with is very old and some of thetables, SP, and views are not being used. I'm looking for a way toidentify what items are no longer in uses, or what items arecurrently in use.
Currently, I'm using the following steps to migrate millions of records from Foxpro tables to SQL Server tables:
1. Transfer Foxpro records to .dat files and then bcp to SQL Server tables in a dummy database. All the SQL tables have the same columns as the Foxpro tables. 2. Manipulate the data in the SQL tables of the dummy database and save the manipulated data into the SQL tables of the real database where the tables may have different structure from the corresponding Foxpro tables.
I only know the following ways to import Foxpro data into SQL Server:
#1. Transfer Foxpro records to .dat files and then bcp to SQL Server tables #2. Transfer Foxpro records to .dat files and then Bulk Insert to SQL Server tables #3. DTS Foxpro records directly to SQL Server tables
I'm thinking whether the following choices will be better than the current way:
1st choice: Change step 1 to use #2 instead of #1 2nd choice: Change step 1 to use #3 instead of #1 3rd choice: Use #3 plus manipulating in DTS to replace step 1 and step 2
Hello, I am working with a database that among other things uses multipart keys as the unique indexes which are not consistent from say one table where a parent record resides to another table which contains related child records. For example I am working with two tables right now, one that contains content that I'll call Contents and the other which contains Usage information about the contents (number of view, a rating and comments give by a customer) which I'll call ContentsUsage. The system that manages the data for the tables has a versioning system by which, whn a content item is added (first time) a "unique" id (guid) and a version number of 1 is created along with the rest of data items in the Contents table and likewise in the ContentsUsage table (essentially a one to one mapping) on the like named fields in that table. Now, each time a given record in the Contents table is updated a new version, with the same guid is created in the Contents and ContentsUsage table. So one side I have:ContentGUID > AAAAVersion > 1ContentGUID > AAAAVersion > 2And the other table (ContentsUsage)ContentGUID > AAAAVersion > 1ContentGUID > AAAAVersion > 2 While both of these tables have a quasi-unique record (row_id) of type char and stored as a guid neither obviously are the same in the two tables and having reviewed the database columns for these tables I find that the official unique key's for these tables are different (table 1, Contents combines the ContentGUID and Version) as the composite / mutli-key index, while table ContentsUsage uses the RowGUID as it's unique index. Contents RowGUID (unique key)ContentGUIDVersionViewsRatingComments................RowGUID ContentGUID (unique key)Version (unique key)Description..... Bearing this in mind I am unable of course to link directly the two tables by using the just the ContentGUID and have to combine the additional Version to I believe obtain the actual "unique" record in question. The question is in terms of writing queries, what would the most efficient query be? What would be the best way to join the two in a query? And are there any pitfalls with the current design that you can see with the way this database (or specifically these tables are defined)? It's something I inherited, so fire away at will on the critique. Having my druthers I would have designed these tables using a unique key of type int that was autogenerated by the database. I have a table of customer sales (dbo].[CustomerSales] which has a complete record od sales of our products for the past 5 years. I would like to create a report that extracts all the sales per customer on one row ie [CustomerID] 00011 has had 25 sales in the past 5 years and I would like to have their sales from left to right (starting with their earliest sale date at the beginning [SaleDate] field on the one row. I would also like to include the store location field [Location] along with the date the sale took place. So in other words the extract would look something like:
In the Operating environment databases, may be made tables in the database on a temporary basis but they are still yet and they are not removed, how to identify tables that have been made on a temporary basis are not used (don’t have any read & write records)?
we run 2008 std edition (I believe r2 on this server, will double check) and I need to find a needle in a haystack.
I am looking at two tables and would like to learn which, if any objects on same db updates these tables. I'd even live with any references to these tables. I already know sql agent is out of the picture. I'm looking for a static approach, not a monitoring one because its possible updates don't occur till month end.
Is there a way in sql server to query the answer to such a question using dmvs or something like dmvs? What if I get bold and want to search all db's on this server for objects that update my two tables even across dbs?
In the mean time, i'll look at scripting all triggers and procs , and doing a search on these table names in the scripts.
I don't know that I've ever seen a way to script all triggers before. Procs I can easily script from the object explorer details. But I'm not sure if in explorer details--> server objects --> triggers does what I hope it does.
My query is pulling to many records becuase of the last join. This table can have multiple registration files for a computer. I just want the latest one or last one insert which is based on dttRegistration. I thought a top 1 select and order by would do it, but now returns no computer names.
tblCustomers contains a CustomerID that is unique to each customer.
tblMachines contains a list of all machines with a MachineID that is unique to each machine. It also contains the CustomerID number.
tblServiceOrders contains a list of each time each customer was serviced. It contains the ServiceDate, CustomerID, and ServiceOrderNo. But it does not have any information on the machines.
tblMachinesServiced contains a list of each machine that was serviced for each service order. It contains the ServiceOrderNo and the MachineID number.
What I want is to be able to extract a list of machines that were not serviced between 2 dates. What I end up getting is a list of machines that were serviced outside of the date range I provide.
For instance, say machine A was serviced in 2013 and 2015 but not in 2014. And say machine B was serviced in all 3 years. When I try to extract my list of machines not serviced in 2014 I end up with a list that contains machine A-2013, A-2015, B-2013 & B-2015. But what I need is just machine A-2014, since that machine wasn’t serviced in 2014.
I’ve tried several different queries but here is an example:

I understand why it returns the records that it does, but I'm not sure how to get what I want, which is a list of machines not serviced in 2014.
I have results from a query that have anywhere from 1-4 results. I have a subid of 1-4 which is grouped by a certain criteria. so for example...

Here is what my desired output is giving each group of subids 1-4 an id to be grouped together.
