SQL Server 2008 :: Split Postal Code Range Into Single Row

Jul 8, 2015

I got a table with organisation codes with postcal code ranges, from-to.

Example:
Organisationcode, startpostalcode, endpostalcode
001 52005249

I would like to generate rows for this range like this:

001 5200
001 5201
001 5202
.....
001 5249

The table looks like this:

SELECT OrganisationCode, PostcalCodeStart, PostalCodeEnd
FROM dbo.DimOrganisation

SQL Server 2008 :: Split Single Row Into Multiple Rows Based On Column Value (quantity)

Jan 30, 2015

Deciding whether or not to use a CTE or this simple faster approach utilizing system tables, hijacking them.

SELECT s.ORDER_NUMBER, s.PRODUCT_ID, 1 AS QTY, s.VALUE/s.QTY AS VALUE
FROM @SPLITROW s
INNER JOIN master.dbo.spt_values t ON t.type='P'
AND t.number BETWEEN 1 AND s.QTY

Just wanted to know if its okay to use system tables in a production environment and if there are any pit falls of using them ?

Postal Code Search And LIKE Statement

Oct 11, 2006

I'm trying to create a form that allows someone to find an
address from a postal code search in the database. My query works exactly as I’d
like in query builder using the following select:

Select [FIELD_LIST] from addresses WHETE POSTCODE LIKE ‘%’+@POSTCODE+’%’

I then pass the user entered post code to the select statement
which is executed. However, I’m getting some odd behaviour. Assuming there is
an address in the database with the post code
“LS11 0ES”...

If I search for LS11, nothing is returned;

If I search for LS11%, nothing is returned;

If I search for %LS11%, nothing is returned;

If I search for %LS11%%, the data is returned.

If I search for %LS%1%%, the data is returned (as is LS21
0ES etc. etc.).

However, I want the user to be able to enter shorter search
strings and it to pull all the data back out, so they can enter a substring
such as LS and it will pull out all the data without the users needing to enter
the full pattern of % symbols.

If I go into query builder (in visual web developer) and
enter just “LS” it works as I’d want, but not when pulled from a web page.

Any ideas?

Thanks

SQL Server 2008 :: Query To Select Date Range From Two Tables With Same Date Range

Apr 6, 2015

I have 2 tables, one is table A which stores Resources Assign to work for a certain period. The structure is as below

Name StartDate EndDate
Tan 2015-04-01 08:30:00.000 2015-04-01 16:30:00.000
Max 2015-04-01 08:30:00.000 2015-04-01 16:30:00.000
Alan 2015-04-01 16:30:00.000 2015-04-02 00:30:00.000

The table B stores the item process time. The structure is as below

Item ProcessStartDate ProcessEndDate

C 2015-04-01 16:47:00.000 2015-04-01 16:49:25.000

I need to select the item which process in 2015-04-01 16:40:00 and 2015-04-01 17:30:00. Beside that I need to know how many resource is assigned to process the item in that period of time. I only has the start date is 2015-04-01 16:40:00 and end date is 2015-04-01 17:30:00. How I can select the data from both tables. There is no need for JOIN, just seperate selections.

Another item process time is in 2015-04-01 10:00:00 and 2015-04-04 11:50:59.

The result expected is

SQL Server 2008 :: Split Apart Filenames Into A Database?

Oct 11, 2015

I am trying to break apart a list of filenames that was inserted into a database. It only breaks out the first one then moves onto the next record. If I do them individually then seem to work but not the whole table when queried. I need to break out each file into a temp table then insert them into a documents field in a database.

my filenames look like so and can have from 1 file name to 10 file names in the string.

test.pdf,test2.pdf,test4.tif,test5.pdf
somedoc.tif,test.docx,test4.pdf

This is my current method, I needed to create a cursor around it to go through all the records, split out the filenames and insert into a temp table. But if there is a better way ill do it. The problem with this is only the first file is getting inserted into the temp table and nothing else even if the filename has 4 files in it.

Create table #tempFiles (OldStrId int, OldPercent int, strfilename varchar(max), RequestId int, OblId int)
declare @OldStr int, @OldPer int, @FileName varchar(max), @intcount int;
Declare filenames CURSOR FOR Select intSTRBonusID, intPercentID, strFileName from tblSTR where strFileName > ''
UNION ALL
Select intSTRBonusID, intPercentID, strFileName from tblSTRHist where intPercentID in (61,62) and strFileName > ''

SQL Server 2008 :: Split Comma Separated String Into Columns?

Apr 24, 2015

Our front end saves all IP addresses used by a customer as a comma separated string, we need to analyse these to check for blocked IPs which are all stored in another table.

A LIKE statement comparing each string with the 100 or so excluded IPs will be very expensive so I'm thinking it would be less so to split out the comma separated values into tables.

The problem we have is that we never know how many IPs could be stored against a customer, so I'm guessing a function would be the way forward but this is the point I get stuck.

I can remove the 1st IP address into a new column and produce the new list ready for the next removal, also as part of this we would need to create new columns on the fly depending on how many IPs are in the column.

This needs to be repeated for each row

SELECT IP_List
, LEFT(IP_List, CHARINDEX(',', IP_List) - 1) AS IP_1
, REPLACE(IP_List, LEFT(IP_List, CHARINDEX(',', IP_List) +0), '') AS NewIPList1
FROM IpExclusionTest

Results:

IP_List
109.224.216.4,146.90.13.69,146.90.85.79,46.208.122.50,80.189.100.119
IP_1
109.224.216.4
NewIPList1
146.90.13.69,146.90.85.79,46.208.122.50,80.189.100.119

SQL Server 2008 :: Using BCV Split Mirror Copy And Restoring Databases?

May 1, 2015

I was contacted by the SAN team to test backup/restore of larger databases using a split-mirror backup (BCV) or clone that is taken from production db server and copied to another sql box. They want to use this process once a week. I see the mounted drives with the data/log files. All looks good. Initially I attempted to attach the databases and received (Unable to open the physical file db.mdf Operating System Error 5 Access is denied). I manually granting SQLServerMSSQLUser$<computer_name>$<instance_name> on all of the physical files 20 total. That worked.

Since this will be weekly, the SAN team performed the copy again and now none of the databases can communicate with the newly copied files. NTFS permissions need to be set again. I'm getting (Operating System error 21: the device is not ready). Is there something that I'm missing in this process how the vendor BCV clones the data and SQL communicates with the copied files as I was thinking it would be more automated process?

SQL Server 2008 :: Joining Two Tables - Split Rows Into Column

Sep 29, 2015

I am trying to join two tables and looks like the data is messed up. I want to split the rows into columns as there is more than one value in the row. But somehow I don't see a pattern in here to split the rows.

This how the data is

Create Table #Sample (Numbers Varchar(MAX))
Insert INTO #Sample Values('1000')
Insert INTO #Sample Values ('1024 AND 1025')
Insert INTO #Sample Values ('109 ,110,111')
Insert INTO #Sample Values ('Old # 1033 replaced with new Invoice # 1544')
Insert INTO #Sample Values ('1355 Cancelled and Invoice 1922 added')
Select * from #Sample

This is what is expected...

Create Table #Result (Numbers Varchar(MAX))
Insert INTO #Result Values('1000')
Insert INTO #Result Values ('1024')
Insert INTO #Result Values ('1025')
Insert INTO #Result Values ('109')
Insert INTO #Result Values ('110')

[Code] ....

How I can implement this ? I believe if there are any numbers I need to split into two columns .

Below are more details...

- All SWITCH, MERGE and SPLIT are executed in one TRANSACTION.
- After SWITCH and MERGE, I execute a query set the partition scheme "NEXT USED [PRIMARY]".
- Finally i execute SPLIT statement.

Could you please tell me where am I going wrong?

Any help would be appreciated.

T-SQL (SS2K8) :: Split Timedate Range At Intersection

Apr 17, 2014

Using SQL Server 2008 R2

I'm trying to create a report and chart for a a manufacturing resource's activity for a given period (typically 30-90 days)

Jobs are created for the length of the run (e.g. 4 days). If the weekend is not worked and the above jobs starts on a Friday, the resource's activity needs to show 1 day running, 2 days down, 3 days running without the production scheduler having to make it two jobs. (A job can have multiple interruptions due to downtime). I have the jobs' schedules in one table and the downtimes in another (so think of the downtime as a calendar table--non working hours). Unusually, the end time is supplied with the downtime factored in.

So I need the query to create 3 datetime ranges for this job: Fri running, Sat,Sun down, Mon,Tues,Wed Running. Been going round in circles on this for a while. i'm sure there's an elegant way to do it: I just can't find it. I've found several similar post, but can't apply any to my case (or at least can;t get them to work)

Below is some sample date and expected results. I hope the explanation and example data is clear.

SQL Server 2012 :: Displaying Code Of A Stored Procedure To A Single Line

Sep 14, 2015

Any better way to query SQL 2012 to display the code of a stored proc to a single line. I'm trying to write a script to insert the contents of the procs between my devestprod environments. So people can query a single table for any proc that is different between environments. At the moment I am using the syscomments view and the text column but the problem here is if you get a lengthy proc it cuts it up into multiple rows.

I can get around it by converting the text to a varchar(max) and outer joining the query, but as you can see by my code below I have to try and guess what the maximum number of rows I'm going to get back for my largest proc. If someone adds a new one that returns 8 rows I'm going to miss it with this query.

Select col1.[type],col1.[name],convert(varchar(max),col1.text) + isnull(convert(varchar(max),col2.Text),'')
+ isnull(convert(varchar(max),col3.Text),'')
+ isnull(convert(varchar(max),col4.Text),'')
+ isnull(convert(varchar(max),col5.Text),'')
+ isnull(convert(varchar(max),col6.Text),'')
+ isnull(convert(varchar(max),col7.Text),'')

SQL Server 2008 :: Changing DB Mode From Single To Multi User

Mar 4, 2015

I have tried everything I found on Google, but nothing seems to be working. Already Ran alter command set multi_user, but getting an error.

"Msg 5064, Level 16, State 1, Line 1

Changes to the state or options of database cannot be made at this time. The database is in single-user mode, and a user is currently connected to it.

Msg 5069, Level 16, State 1, Line 1..ALTER DATABASE statement failed."

SQL Server 2008 :: Single Script To Remove Secondary Log Files

Mar 18, 2015

I am new to SQL and I haven't written any scripts in the past. I thought I would give it a go. Basically, I am trying to write a script that will check if a database has more than one log files, free the VLFs that belong to the secondary log files and then remove them. I created a database named rDb as this link suggests and followed the steps.

[URL] ....

It works. However, I want to have to run just 1 script that will do the entire job. This is what I have gotten so far and it doesn't work:

create table #tempsysdatabase(
File_id int,
file_guid varchar(50),
type_desc varchar (20),
data_space_id int,
name nvarchar (50),
state int,

[Code] ....

SQL Server 2008 :: Creating Rows Between Dates In Single Statement

Apr 21, 2015

I am trying to find an easy way to create multiple of just two date in a single sql statement.

E.G.

A statement using the parameters

@StartDate = '2015-01-01'
@EndDate = '2015-01-05'

Ends up with rows:

'2015-01-01'
'2015-01-02'
'2015-01-03'
'2015-01-04'
'2015-01-05'

What would be the best way to do this ?

SQL Server 2008 :: Comparing / Merging Records In Single Table?

Jun 2, 2015

I'm trying to avoid a large amount of manual data manipulation.

Here's the background: Legacy system that has (well let's call apples apples) pretty much no method of enforcing data integrity, which has caused a fairly decent amount of garbage data to be inserted in some tables. Pulling one of the [Individuals] table from within this Legacy system and inserting it into a production system, into the Table schema currently in place to track [Individuals] in this Production system.

Problem: Inserting the information is easy, how to deduplicate the records that exist within the staging table that the legacy [Individuals] table has been dumped into in production, prior to insertion. (Wanting to do this programmatically with SQL or SSIS preferably, so that I can alter it later to allow for updating existing/inserting new)

Staging Table Schema:

;
CREATE TABLE [dbo].[stage_Individuals](
[SysID] [int] NULL, --Unique, though it's not an index intended to identify the [Individuals]
[JJISID] [nvarchar](10) NULL,
[NameLast] [nvarchar](30) NULL,
[NameFirst] [nvarchar](30) NULL,
[NameMiddle] [nvarchar](30) NULL,

[code]....

Scenario: There are records that duplicate the JJISID, though this value is supposed to be unique for every individual. The SYSID is just a Clustered Index (I'm assuming) within the Legacy system and will be most likely dropped when inserted into the Production [Inviduals] table. There are records that are missing their JJISID, though this isn't supposed to happen either, but have valid information within SSN/DOB/Name/etc that can be merged into the correct record that has a JJISID assigned. There is really no data conformity, some records have NULLS for everything except JJISID, or some records will have all the [Individuals] information excluding the JJISID.

Currently I am running the following SQL just to get a list of the records that have a duplicate JJISID (I have other's that partition by Name/DOB/etc and will adapt whatever I come up with to be used for those as well):

;
select j.*
from (select ROW_NUMBER() OVER (PARTITION BY JJISID ORDER BY JJISID) as RowNum, stage_Individuals.*, COUNT(*) OVER (partition by jjisid) as cnt from stage_Individuals) as j
where cnt > 1 and j.JJISID is not nullNow, with SQL Server 2012 or later I could use LAG and LEAD w/ the RowNum value to do my data manipulation...but that won't work because we are on SQL Server 2008 in this environment.

[URL]

With, the following as a potential solution:

GSquared (3/16/2010)Here's a query that seems to do what you need. Try it, let me know if it works.

Performance on it will be a problem, but I can't fine tune that. You'll need to look at various method for getting this kind of data from the table and work out which variation will be best for your data. Without access to the actual table, I can't do that.

;
WITH CTE
AS (SELECT master_id,
MIN(ID) AS first_id,
MAX(Account_Expiry) AS latest_expiry
FROM #People
GROUP BY master_id)
SELECT P1.master_id,

[code].....

Unfortunately, I don't think that will accomplish what I'm looking for - I have some records that are duplicated 6 times, and I'm wanting to keep the values within these that aren't NULL.

Basically what I'm looking for, is to update any column with a NULL value to the corresponding Duplicate [Individuals] record value for that column.

**EDIT - Example, Record 1 has a JJISID with NULL NameFirst & NameLast BUT Record 2 has the same JJISID and values for NameFirst & NameLast. I'm wanting to propogate the NameFirst & NameLast from Record2 into Record1
