SQL Server 2012 :: Retrieving Dataset That Only Includes Latest Versions Of Data

In our Microsoft Dynamics Nav instance we have a Sales Header Archive table - into which copies of the Sales Header are placed, with 3 items forming the compound key:
Document Number
Version
Occurrence number
so if doc 1 is archived, then the records would be
Doc# | Version | Occurrence #
1 | 1 | 1
When a second copy is archived a new record is added:
Doc# | Version | Occurrence #
1 | 1 | 1
1 | 1 | 2
and then when maybe a 3rd version is archived a 3rd entry added
This is for EACH document and I now need to retrieve the dataset which is the latest version of each document... but I'm drawing a blank!
If I
select [Doc#], max([Version]) as [V], max([Occurrence #]) from (table) group by [Doc#]
then I get the distinct list of docs, but I now need to use this list to select the records which match this criteria, from this table.
How do I select just these?
I thought (wrongly) that I could simply say:
Select * from Invoice Table where
Invoice.[Doc#], Invoice.[V], Invoice.[Occurrence #] in
(select [Doc#], max([Version]) as [V], max([Occurrence #]) from (table) group by [Doc#])
Let's say I have a table of data as per the below..
I'm trying to extract only the green highlighted items..
The rules applied are: Only the latest data concerning all cases, and only 1 line (the latest) per case.
As you can see in the image, I don't want the 2nd,3rd, and 4th record extracted cause they are all superseded by more recent records (identified as they are further in the table).
I've considered using either Distinct or Having? but can't get that to work.. If I could use Distinct but then ensure it's the latest record in the table that would be perfect.
I'm at loss how I'm supposed to work with typed datasets and Sql Server Compact 3.5, when inserting records and I need to update my datatables with the primary key of newly inserted rows.
I've tried adding a RowUpdated handler to all tableadapters that look like this:
I've previously used this type of approach when working with an OleDbDatabase, which works just fine. But it doesn't work with Sql Server CE 3.5, and since it doesn't support stored procedures I can't fix it that way either. And it doesn't support commands in a batch (i.e appending the Insert command of the adapter with ";SELECT @@IDENTITY") so that doesn't work either...
So how are we supposed to use Sql Server CE 3.5? It's impossible together with datasets? Or am I missing something obvious?
I'm trying to find the most succinct way to get the last occurrence of April 1st given a date.

I have a select query that results all the dbs and their several backup dates×. Howover I only need the latest backup dates for each of the db.How can I write that in tsql?

I need to provide a minimum value over a 12 hour time range of data. I'm struggling with performance issues due to the amount of data. Currently I log about 100 devices reporting once per minute into a table. Also about once per minute I need to pull the minimum value reported for each device in the last 12 hours. Currently I'm maintaining a separate table with entries for just the last 12 hours and just performing a Select Min(Temp) Where DeviceID=x, but it already holds about 700,000 records at any given time. The number of devices will increase substantially and this will no longer be viable.

I would like to maintain version control of the all the sql objects (sp, view , tables ) and maintain source code versions control. Any way to use TFS to maintain versions of sql objects. Also the folder structure when using TFS.
I'm trying to write some SQL which will give me the following result from the table below..
Currently I can do each of the PRICEx fields in a seperate query then join the results together. I do this by getting the MAX(Date) WHERE PRICEx IS NOT NULL then using that date to get PRICEx, and then repeat until I've done all the PRICE fields.
This is acceptable for a small selection, but for a large selection this can get quite slow. I was just wondering if there is there a way to do this in one single SQL without having to join the table to itself 3 times (for all 3 PRICE fields)

I use the following SQL to set up a linked server with Excel and attempt to retrieve data. The c: empauthors.xls is downloaded from the second page of the article above.

The query sets up the linked server OK, and retrieves the field names, but no data is returned. The results in Management Studio are a list of column names:

I am working on a project to write SSIS packages to update a SQL Server 2005 database with data from an Oracle 10g database. Unfortunately, our development ETL box is running 32 bit Windows Server 2003 while the production ETL box is running 64 bit Itanium Windows Server 2003. We have created SQL Server Agent jobs to execute all of our packages. All of our jobs run without error on the 32 bit development box, but in our preproduction tests they are failing in the 64 bit box.
In my testing, I've found that I can successfully pull character data from Oracle. For example, I can write a package that retrieves the data for the following query:
SELECT 'test' FROM dual
However, the following fails:
SELECT 1 FROM dual
I have logging turned on in my package. When the package fails, I typically see informational messages in the log up to the point of failure, but no actual error event logs are generated. The only error information I have is in the SQL Server Agent job history log, which contains the following:
Executed as user: SERVERNAMESYSTEM. The return value was unknown. The process exit code was -2147483646. The step failed.
I have also tried using the 64 bit version of the DTS Wizard to create a sample package, and observe the same behavior. When I run the DTS Wizard, queries that return numeric data cause DTSWizard.exe to exit and produce the following message in the application event log:

I've inherited a .NET CF 2.0 application at work that uses SQL CE, and as I'm digging into the build process, I'm getting confused about which version of SQL CE that is being used.
The project references System.Data.SqlServerCe (no hint path, just from wherever VS 2005 has it). When I look at the assembly in my project, the version shows up as 3.0.3600.0, but when I browse to the DLL's location on my hard drive (C:Program Files (x86)Microsoft Visual Studio 8SmartDevicesSDK\SQL ServerMobilev3.0System.Data.SqlServerCe.dll), right click the DLL and check the properties, the version shows up as 3.0.3600.0.
In our installation package, we install three SQL CE Cabs: sqlce30.dev.ENU.ppc.wce5.armv4i.CAB sqlce30.ppc.wce5.armv4i.CAB sqlce30.repl.ppc.wce5.armv4i.CAB
When installed on the device, the Remove Programs dialog shows as "Microsoft SQL Mobile 2005..." is installed. We keep the cabs in a seperate location so they are not just pulled from anywhere on the hard drive.
However, when I install the same CAB files located at: C:Program Files (x86)Microsoft Visual Studio 8SmartDevicesSDKSQL ServerMobilev3.0wce500armv4i, the device shows "Microsoft SQL Mobile 2005 Compa...." is installed.
In my Add References dialog, System.Data.SqlServerCe has version 3.0.3600.0, runtime v2.0.50727
Some questions: 1. Is the version 3.0.3600.0 the same between 3.0 and 3.1? 2. Given a System.Data.SqlServerCe DLL, how can I tell if it is the 3.0 or 3.1 version? 3. When upgrading my project to use 3.1, is it enough simply to upgrade my build environment? Or should I need to change the references in my project? (It appears that the 3.1 DLLs have been placed into the default locations where VS 2005 is pulling them from). I'm using VS 2005 SP1 on Vista x64.

i have two datasets.one dataset have old data from some other database.second dataset have original data from sql server 2005 database.both database have same field having id as a primary key.i want to transfer all the data from first dataset to new dataset retaining the previous data but if old dataset have the same id(primary key) as in the new one then that row will not transfer. but if the id(primary key) have changed values then the fields updated with that data.how can i do that.
I have a report with multiple datasets, the first of which pulls in data based on user entered parameters (sales date range and property use codes). Dataset1 pulls property id's and other sales data from a table (2014_COST) based on the user's parameters. I have set up another table (AUDITS) that I would like to use in dataset6. This table has 3 columns (Property ID's, Sales Price and Sales Date). I would like for dataset6 to pull the Property ID's that are NOT contained in the results from dataset1. In other words, I'd like the results of dataset6 to show me the property id's that are contained in the AUDITS table but which are not being pulled into dataset1. Both tables are in the same database.

I've never worked with SSIS before, and I need to figure out how to import only the latest data from an Access table into a SQL Server table. I have a .dtsx file written by someone who no longer works at my company that simply truncates the SQL Server table and copies the entire Access table back into it. This is no longer effective simply because of the amount of data involved (it has become extremely slow over time).
Since each row includes a timestamp, ideally I would look at the latest timestamp in my SQL Server table and retrieve only those rows from Access that have a timestamp later than that. I have no idea how to do this in SSIS.
Logically, I think something like this is called for:select max(timestamp) as latest from SqlServerTablestore the result in a variable somehow and create a query to select * from AccessTable where timestamp > [latest]copying the results of that query into the SQL Server table. How do I do something like that? And if that isn't a feasible way to do it, what way would be better?

Is it possible to run both SQL200 standard and SQL2005 Express on thesame server? I need to test a database created in 2005 on ourproduction server but don't want to upgrade our "live" databases yet.
Here is my SQL Query. The Table where the data is coming from has 19,000 rows of data however, this only returns 2550 rows of data.
In the where statment I am call all the select tables, with the OrbitimportId that is most recent. But it only returns 2500. I need help retirenving the entire liste with the most recent OrbitimportId.
