SQL Server 2012 :: Some Data Coming As NULL In A View?

May 1, 2014

I have the following view.

The column prod_Master.M2_Pct is defined as float.Yet for some of the rows, the value in [% of Total Target] comes up as null even though there is a number in prod.Measure column. There is valid non-null data in prod_Master.M2_Pct.

I tried LTRIM(RTRIM(prod.Measure)), but no change.

Use ProdDB
SELECT TOP (100) PERCENT dbo.prod.ProdNo AS [Prod No], dbo.prod.ProdName AS [Prod Name],

Store A Null Value Into A Database Coming From A Form

Apr 27, 2007

I have a form and a connectionString to a SQL database. If the textbox at the form is empty i want to store a null value there but when i pass this value as a parameter it brings the following error: Failed to convert parameter value from a String to a Int32..
cmd.Parameters("@Segundo_nombre").Value = txtSecondName.Text.ToString  --> suposing is null it brings an Error.
cmd.Parameters.Add(Apellido)
 How can i manage this? I want to store this value if it is null or not.
Also i don't know how to assign a null value to a variable. I tried with
v_flag = check_selection.check_string(v_idioma)

If v_flag = 1 Then 'la variable posee el texto Seleccione
v_idioma = DBNull.Value
but it's not working.
Thanks!!

Null Date Value In SQL Server View

May 24, 2007

I have a SQL Server View. The problem is that the DateTime field has many Null values which is causing a problem with my parsing of the data in MSAccess.

How would I use CAST (or CONVERT) to handle Null Date values in my SQL Server view?

I remember there was a way to use CAST or CONVERT similar to the nz type function in MSAccess to handle null date values but I can't remember the syntax. What is happening now is that I get a data mismatch in my MSAccess function when it hits a Null Date value. Can I somehow use the ISNULL or ISDate function? I believe I need to somehow return "" instead of Null.

SQL 2012 :: How To Format Data In A Grid View (Pivot)

Oct 23, 2015

I am looking for a way to create a stored procedure that will show inventory availability. I would like to show the Inventory Name, The Date, and if the inventory is "checked out" using the ID name of the person who has the item.

For example it would look like this:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Inventory Name | 10/24/2015 | 10/25/2015 | 10/26/2015 | 10/27/2015 | 10/28/2015
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Laptop | Tom | Tom | Tom | Avail | Avail
Projector | Avail | Avail | Avail | Avail | Bob
Air Card | Bob | Bob | Bob | Bob | Bob

It seems like I want to do a pivot table but there really is no aggregate so I am not sure what to use.

Coming To Grips With Data Warehouses

Mar 18, 2007

Hi again,

How's everyone doing with 2005? I still feel like my heals are dragging a bit. The "knowledge" out there still seems a bit sparse. Am I right?

I'm about 1/5 the way through a BI book and decided the course will probably be necessary as well:
http://www.kimballgroup.com/html/kucourseMDWD.html
There seems to be a lot to come to grips with.
So that's all paid for.

It's been years since I've been on a course of any kind. Too busy working! What's the etiquette? Trousers and T-shirt? Tie? Sandles & three quarter lengths?

This particular course seems to cover the "general overall approach" - which I am pretty sure is a necesary part of what you need to be able to do. The book that is related to the course (which I have already bought) seems really helpful and valuable.

But I don't think it will cover the nitty gritty of SSIS - where most of the grunt work happens. They have another course for that. But I can't wait that long. You can spend your whole life just reading books!

Are all the new little things in 2005 SSIS just a little to specialised? A little too clever? Does it limit us? Or empower us? Can we use it to get the job done? Or will it be a case again of "clever workarounds" when we travel far down a road that we find out (when it's too late and we are committed) can't provide us with what we want. Is it really saving us time? Are we better off writing the scripts ourselves?

------------------------
Me: What do you want to know from your data warehouse?
Client: Err...Emm...Everything
Me: OK, that's great. That's all I need to know. I'll see you when it's done.

SQL Server 2012 :: Variables That Are Not Null Put In TVP?

Sep 17, 2015

I have three variables

DECLARE @QuantityID uniqueidentifier,

They are sent to the sproc as null. Since they could be null I need to exclude them from posting to a temp table

Example

DECLARE @QuantityID uniqueidentifier,
@LengthID uniqueidentifier,
@CostID uniqueidentifier
SET @CostID = NEWID()
SELECT @QuantityID as ID UNION ALL
SELECT @LengthID UNION ALL
SELECT @CostID

Two values are null. I want those excluded from this table

Here is the example of what I am trying to do:

DECLARE @QuantityID uniqueidentifier,
@LengthID uniqueidentifier,
@CostID uniqueidentifier
DECLARE @Temp as Table (id uniqueidentifier NOT NULL Primary key)
SET @CostID = NEWID()
INSERT INTO @Temp
SELECT @QuantityID as ID UNION ALL
SELECT @LengthID UNION ALL
SELECT @CostID

How do I insert into @Temp only non null values?

SQL Server 2012 :: Get List Of Last Non Null Values

I have two tables, a dates table and a values table. They are joined on the date column.The date table has a range, say from today as far as 20 days from now, incrementing by 1 day each row.The values table may have a row for a day, and may not. If the day has a value I want to display that value.If the day does not have a value in the values table I want to display the last known value.

I think this can be done with windowing functions in a set based manner but have not been able to work it out. SQL Server 2012 :: Check To See If Columns Are NOT NULL In A Record

There are 6 columns in the table, 5 are responses and column6 indicates if the record is complete. So I want a way to see if all of the first 5 columns are NOT NULL and, if so, mark column6 with a 1.

I am thinking this would be a good thing for a trigger on INSERT or UPDATE to check to see if the first 5 columns are filled in and then mark the record as complete.

SQL Server 2012 :: Clustered Index For Materialized View?

Aug 8, 2015

I have a view that joins a dozen tables with a million rows added per year by an application. I want to materialize it. The view is always filtered by date first on reports, then there are a few key transaction keys, but then many other fields required to make each row unique. I don't want to add these columns since they are large, many, not used for sorting or filtering, and may not define uniqueness in a future application design. I need a uniqueifier that is application agnostic. I prefer a bigint. So to store the materialized view ideally for reporting, I want to add the following clustered index to materialize the view:

CREATE unique CLUSTERED INDEX idx1
ON [dbo].[myview](myDate, key1, key2, key3, id bigint identity(1,1) NOT NULL)

And I get this error:

Msg 102, Level 15, State 1, Line 3
