SQL 2012 :: View Server Agent Job History ONLY

Jul 6, 2015

I want to give developers access to view SQL Job history, but not let them inhert permission to create local jobs like they get with the fixed server roles.

how can this be achieved? Or can it only be achieved by giving them access to the tables in msdb and querying them?

SQL 2012 :: Agent Job History Shows Step Still Running But Shows Start And End Times?

Jul 1, 2015

I have a SQL Agent job that runs at 4:15 in the morning. The job has 5 steps, each step only runs if the preceding step succeeds. The second step, which calls an SSIS package that does the main processing, appears to finish as it goes on to the next step; however, when looking in 'View History' there are 2 entries for this step - the first one shows it as still running (Circled Green Arrow) but with a start and end time. The second entry says the job succeeded.

I have been seeing conflicts, such as deadlocks, with later jobs. I suspect this job is causing the conflicts - maybe the package is still running in the background instead of having actually completed?

what conditions a job step my be showing in the job history as both running AND completed successfully?

SQL Server 2012 :: Password History Table

May 7, 2014

I have a table of users including: UserName, Password (comuted col), FirstName, LastName, Address and other details....

I have to keep 10 Recent passwords , so I created another table "ut_Password " (Table2)

This table contains the following columns : Username, Password , and Password_Date.

I searched a lot but could not find something similar in my opinion need SP for it.

- 10 row Max for Password History in table 2
- when user change password it's need to be uniqe and it should not appear last 10 passwords
- Each user can have a maximum of 10 lines containing history password table
- Most old password deleted and replaced with a new password will enter the correct date (FIFO method first in first out).

SQL Server 2012 :: Getting End Dates For History Segments

Aug 14, 2014

I have a customer history table with the follow structure and data:

CustomerID Tier StartDate RecordStatus

123 A 01/01/2013 1
123 A 03/01/2013 0
123 B 03/01/2013 1
123 B 06/01/2013 0
123 A 08/01/2014 1
456 C 02/01/2014 1

CREATE TABLE TEMPHISTORY(
CUSTOMERID VARCHAR(11),
TIER VARCHAR(10),
STARTDATE DATE,
RECORDSTATUS TINYINT)

[Code] .....

The RECORDSTATUS value of 1 means the record is active. A corresponding record of the same CustomerID, Tier. in startdate chronology, with a value of 0 indicates that the previous record with the status of 1 has now terminated and the startdate of the record with recordstatus of 0 is the start date of the termination of the previous record, or better stated, the end date of the previous record.

What I need to do is re-record the above data the startdate of each terminated record become an enddate for the previous record, minus 1 day, as follows:

CUSTOMERID TIER STARTDATE ENDDATE
123 A 01/01/2013 02/28/2013
123 B 03/01/2013 05/31/2013
123 A 08/01/2014 NULL
456 C 02/01/2014 NULL

SSIS Output On Sql Agent History

Jan 29, 2007

I have been using SSIS for about two months now and one of the main difficulties I have had is migrating Sql Agent SSIS jobs around environments.

Usually, the SSIS fails because of permissions to file systems, data bases, etc, but until now, I have had to discover these almost by guessing because the job history never game me any useful information. Also, from what I see, the SSIS logs have been unreliable, at best.

What I have done lately is creating Operating System (CmdExec) Steps as part of the job (not SSIS steps) and inserting the output of dtexec.exe into the history.

This seems to give me information that has been really hard to get, otherwise.

My question is (I am no DBA or ETL expert), is this the best way of getting the output of the package when debugging migration issues? Why doesn't the SSIS Steps have a similar feature of outputting useful info to the job history?

SQL Server 2012 :: RAISERROR Not Showing Custom Message In Job History

So I have two steps in my job that check conditions and call RAISERROR to gracefully complete the job if those conditions are met (meaning I only want the final step to run in a specific situation). Works great, except for some reason my messages are not making it into the log. It is appending the SQLSTATE, and a default error instead of anything that I'm putting into RAISERROR.

SQL Server 2012 :: List Catalog Reports With No Execution History Returns 0 Rows

Feb 13, 2015

comparing UNIQUEIDENTIFIER columns..This query returns several rows where the [ReportId] and [LastRunDate] columns are both NULL:

SELECT [c].[Name],[c].[ItemID],[xl].[ReportID]
, MAX([TimeStart]) [LastRunDate]
FROM [dbo].[Catalog] [c]
LEFT JOIN [dbo].[ExecutionLogStorage] [xl] on [c].[ItemID] = [xl].[ReportID]
WHERE [c].[Type] NOT IN (1,5) -- Not a folder or a data source!
group by [c].[Name],[c].[ItemID],[xl].[ReportID]
order by 4

However, trying to just list catalog reports with no execution history returns 0 rows, but I'm expecting it to return a row for every NULL [ReportId] from the above query:

SELECT *
FROM [dbo].[Catalog]
WHERE [Type] NOT IN (1,5) -- Not a folder or a data source!
AND [ItemID] NOT IN (SELECT [ReportID] FROM [dbo].[ExecutionLogStorage])

I even tried casting [ItemId] and [ReportId] columns in the 2nd query to VARCHAR(255), and still got no rows, but the following queries return 0 rows and 1 row (respectively).

select * from [dbo].[ExecutionLogStorage] where [ReportID] = '0BB2209C-7736-46C8-AD02-4614EBA4F0F1'
select * from [dbo].[Catalog] where [ItemID] = '0BB2209C-7736-46C8-AD02-4614EBA4F0F1'

View Transaction Log/history

Mar 14, 2008

Hello, I browsed the internet for an answer but all I can
find is the mention of a third party tool called log explorer
that cost a grand for a single license ... no thank you,
but basically what i want to do is be able to open the .ldf file
that is created to log transactions when you first create a database.
Or if there is another method to view transaction logs then please mention it.
I tried DBCC Log('database') which did not provide me with much information
which I can use.

1. Maintenance Cleanup. 2. 'View History' Anomaly

Mar 31, 2008

Hi. I'm very new to SQL Server and would greatly appreciate any advice with regard to my two questions below.

I've recently been given responsibility for a pair of clustered Windows 2003 servers running SQL Server 2005. Looking through SQL Server Management Studio, I found the following three maintenance plans:

- System Maintenance Plan (all system databases)
- Plan 1 (1 database)
- Plan 2 (4 databases).

All three maintenace plans had the following elements configured, in the following order:
- Check Database Integrity
- Backup Database (Full)
- Shrink Database
- Update statistics
- Clean Up History

with the exception that Plan 1 doesn't have a 'Shrink Database' task (because, I'm told, its data is pretty static), but none had a Maintenance Cleanup Task, so I added one to each plan specifying 14 days of old backups to be kept in all cases except Plan 1, where I limited it to 2 days, the database being over 7 GB in size. All links between tasks in all plans are AND constraints, value 'Completion'. All .BAKs are written to tape by Symantec Backup Exec as part of the daily backup.

Two questions from this:

1. Since .BAKs are written to separate folders for each database, do I need, for example, four Maintenance Cleanup Tasks for the Plans covering four databases - one for each folder/database? I can't see a way of specifying that a Maintenance Cleanup Task should apply to multiple databases or search subfolders based on database name, so I assume I need four consecutive Maintenance Cleanup Tasks within a single plan? Is this the way to do it?

2.The data displayed when I right-click a maintenance plan and choose View History shows:

date and time run
plan name
task name
duration
log type
log source

Since I added a Maintenance Cleanup Task to each plan, the only task shown in the Task Name column is Cleanup History (set to 'Older than 7 days'), and the duration is 00:00:00, where previously all tasks were shown and the overall duration was over a minute.

However, the .BAK files are being created (size looks OK), the application log contains entries suggesting the backups and other tasks completed successfully, and if I expand the SQL Server Logs node and view the current file I can see entries which give the same 'success' messages (presumably this log is the source of the 'success' messages in the application log?).

Why does there appear to be an anomaly between the 'View History' display and the SQL Server Log and application log? Should I be worried, or is what I can see in the SQL Server Logs and application log sufficient grounds for a good night's sleep?

Thanks,

Ed

Error Connecting To Localhost Site To View SQL Server Mobile Agent On Device

Feb 9, 2007

I have set up a locahost site in IIS using the "Configure Web Synchronization Wizard". One of the first test I was asked to do was to open a broweser and browse to http://localhost/MobileTest/sqlcesa30.dll

If all is well I should get a web page with the following line:

SQL Server Mobile Server Agent 3.0

But unfortunately I get an error stating :
"The server has encountered an error while loading an application during the processing of your request. Please refer to the event log for more detail information. Please contact the server administrator for assistance."

I checekd the Event log and found this error related the IIS launch process on my machine.

DCOM got error "Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password. " and was unable to logon .IWAM_Rataq in order to run the server:

where Rataq is the name of my machine. Could my IWAM_Rataq account be corrupted, my other sites on the machine work.

Infact if i put in a Test.htm page in the virtual directory MobileTest I am able to browse to the page.

Can the Account be re-set? is there another problem that I am not aware of. I have Norton Internet 2006 running could that be the reason? Could Norton be blocking the dll from loading? But the event log states it is a Account error.

Any ideas why this might occur? any help is always appreciated
