SSIS As DataSource For SSRS - Failure On Different Machine (Server Vs Dev)
May 12, 2006
I have developed an SSIS Package which is the Data Source for a Reporting Services report (using the OLE DB Destination DataReader component - very cool and powerfull!!!).
I have one Connection Manager defined in the package to access a SQL Server 2000 Database. The authentication is set to SQL Server Authentication (per the documentation in BOL) where I provide the UserID and Password.
Here is what works and what doesn't work:
In BIDS on my local machine the report executes beautifully.
When deploying the SSIS Package to my local machine's Integration Services File System and the report to my local machine's Report Server database the report executes beautifully (Yes, I'm using the developer edition).
When deploying the package to a W2003 Server Integration Services installation as well as deploying the Report and Data Source to the same W2003 Server's Reporting Services installation - the report fails.
I think it is because the passsword to the SQL Account is not "set". I am able to run the package through BIDS via dtexecui on this W2003 server successfully. However, when I run the report on the server it fails.
I am guessing it is because the password for the SQL Server Authenitcation is not "there". I am encrypting via "Save SensitiveDataWithPasssword".
What am I doing wrong? Any suggestions would be welcome.
Hi everybody, I'm newby in SSIS. I have been using DTS in SQL 2000. Trying to learn how to execute SSIS package from C# code of ASP.NET web server. Here's my case: 1. SSIS package with simple data transformation from one table to CSV is stored in SQL Server 2005 storage 2. CSV is for simplicity placed in C: .txt 3. I haven't used SSIS configuration files 4. Protection level of package = EncryptSensitiveWithUserKey 5. Executes OK from Bussiness inteligence studio 6. I've created console application with this code:
7. When I connect through Remote Desktop Connection I successfully execute this console application on SQL server host machine. 8. When I try execution from computer where I develop package and where I successfully executed it from Bussiness inteligence studio I'm geting FAILURE was a result
Connection params for SQL are same in console application and in SSIS project of Bussiness inteligence studio.
I am currently trying to use a SSIS datareader destination as a datasource in Reporting Services (RS). I have sucessfully developed the report and I am able to execute and see the results from it in the RS preview pane. I am also able to deploy it (same server as RS development and report is on) without errors. However, once deployed, I am unable to get the report to work in Report Manager. I get the following error message:
"An error has occurred during report processing. Query execution failed for data set Dynamic_POS_BO_xRef'. The package failed to execute."
I have read everything in BOL regarding configuration of the RS Execution Account and have configured it with a domain member that has admin rights and tryed it with one that has limited rights (best practice recommendation).
I'moving my asp application to a new hosting server.
So when i tried the setup locally with the live DB & application in my test machine... The DB access is denied when application tries to hit the DB.
DB is in seperate machine with SQL Server 2000 & application(ASP) is in Windows server 2003..... Kindly help me with your suggestions....on what went wrong?
I have created many shared datsources and reprots at http://localhost/resportserver.
I am trying to access these reports from ReportViewer in the web application. Actually I want to use these reports for different customers by just changing the datsource programitically.
Due to a SQL 2014 cluster installation failure related to security while setting up the primary node, I had to remove the node and any related installation programs from the node and redo the installation again. However I am unable to use the machine name as the SQL network name during the instance configuration, I get the following:
Microsoft.SqlServer.Chainer.Infrastructure.InputSettingValidationException: The SQL Server failover cluster instance name "MachineName" already exists as a server on the network. Specify a different failover cluster instance name.I am still getting the same name since the node name "MachineName" is listed under the cluster name. I have used machine name as SQL network name without an issue. I do not have any existing SQL machine name in network using same machinename which I want to use for this installation.
I am run the ETL package through the SQL Server Agent, the job fails with the error message
"System.InvalidOperationException: The 'IBMDA400.DataSource.1' provider is not registered on the local machine.".
But when i run trough the UI is runs fine.
I am uisng OLE DB driver to the connect to AS400.
can you please tekk ne where a im going wrong.

Help! I am using Script Transformation to output a new column as image[DT_IMAGE] field to store serialized object. In the VB script, the sample code as
The package always runs fine on my developing machine and will halt on other machine at AddBlobData after certain number row records were processed. I am stuck here. Anyone has any suggestion?
What I need is reading data from mutiple tables in one database and writing into a single table in another datable. In order preserve all the columns data, I use input column fields to construct a new object and then serialize it, and store the serialize data into detination db table. (The object and serialization function is coming from c# dll.)

I have subscription by email problem on the following configuration:
Windows XP prof. SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Configured Database Mail with remote SMTP server to send email successfully Configured SSRS to use remote SMTP server
Edited the Rsreportserver.config file as following (by the instructions from MSDN)
I scheduled my subscription and tested it. I didn't receive any mail from the setting email address, but got an error message in ReportServerService log file as following.
Error sending mail, CDO error -2147220978, will not resend Error sending email. System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0x8004020E): The server rejected the sender address. The server response was: 530 authentication required - for help go to http://help.yahoo.com/help/us/mail/pop/pop-11.html
I did a little search, but couldn't find any solution for it. Is anybody successfully to get the Reporting Services subscription by email function working through MS SQL Server Management Studio or if you have a solution for this issue, would you mind to share the experience with me. I will be very appreciated.
I have develop any report in reporting services on server Development. i deploy my report to server production. i have connection to cube as data source. if open report manager in server production and open the report, its succesfully. the report is open. but if i open report manager in server development show error

For more information about this error navigate to the report server on the local server machine i use windows authentication in my pnl datasource.
Data Source of the report is AS/400 and I need to create a report in visual studio 2013 with ODBC Connection type and deploy report onto share point 2013. How to create report, data source and deploy on share point.
My problem is how we will create ODBC connection with AS/400 and connect report with AS/400.
I have done a full Sql Server install on a server and the SSIS service is not available. Normally when I load Sql Server I get €œSQL Server Integration Services" as a service that I can start. On this machine it is not listed after the install. I don't get any errors through out the install.
I've SQL Server running on 64 bit. When I schedule a package to run every night which has excel data transformation, it fails. Initally I had a problem running through BIDS also but then I found in project properties you can switch this off by specifying property Run64BitRuntime by false. After going through some forums, many have suggested that when scheduling a package, modify the command arguments to run as 32bit runtime. These command argumnents can be generated from making use of tool DTExecUI.exe Even after using generated command arguments from this tool, it doesn't help.
Below is my command argument and the error message generated.

I have designed a packege using my local machine ( 32bit) and am trying to deploy this package to 64bit machine and open it up.. are there any issues that I need to aware of? 32 bit ssis and 64bit ssis are comparable each other?
As per this link [URL] we can execute packages only when we install Integration Services (DTEXEC works only after that).
As per this link [URL] we can execute packages from DB Server if integration services is not present on same machine and packages will execute from server from which they were started (i.e. DB Server via job).
My scenario, I have DB server installed on machine A and SSIS server on machine B. I am creating sql agent job on machine A and pointing to packages stored in file system on SSIS server B. My confusion is since we did not install integration services on machine A (DB Server), how packages execute from here? Will the packages run from server A but use DTEXEC of server B? If I am not wrong SQL Agent Job also uses DTEXEC to execute the package so how does it work without integration services installed?Â
I have a VS 2005 Web Appplication solution that uses SQL Server Reporting Services 2005. One of the projects is a Report Server Project. In this project I have an RDL file that has: 1.)a non-shared XML DataSource (no credentials), 2.)a DataSet with a Command Type of Text and a Query String that is as follows: <Query> <XmlData> <Root> <LOAD LOAD_ID_PREFIX="" LOAD_ID="" TRUCK="" DIAGRAM=""/> </Root> </XmlData> </Query>
3.)a field that comes from the Database that is of VarBinary(Max) that is a JPEG Image
What happens is, is that by doing #2 above, at design time I can create tables and hook into my datasets and get the report all designed out the way I want. Then at runtime, I have a Stored Procedure that uses the "FOR XML AUTO" option so that I can represent my results from the database in an XML fashion which will allow me to replace the XML Schema in between the Root tags above (in #2) with my actual data (which still has the same schema). I then save the modified RDL to a database table field and move on to happily ever after......in this case, not. In this case, since an VarBinary is involved, unless I want to get a pointer back for the Diagram Column, I have to use the "FOR XML AUTO, BINARY BASE64" option. This returns an Encoded string to represent the Binary value that was in the Database....and this is the partial source of my angst....read on.
My approach that I described above worked flawlessly in all cases where an image wasn't involved. This report is the only report in the whole system I am working on that will have an image and it is the last one being done, so that's why I didn't run into this earlier.
I have tried all kinds of things at different levels, but the thing that I have tried that seemed to me to have the most potential was to use Embedded Code to take the Encoded ASCII Value and convert into something binary that the SSRS Reporting Engine likes (so my image will show), but I have been unsuccessful thus far. The error message I keep getting now from my Embedded Function is: "Invalid length for a Base-64 char array", which I have not been able to resolve thus far....and I do know that the Binary value in the database is good becuase I can see it in pages in my application otherwise.
This aside, is there anyone out there that knows how to take the value of a VarBinary(Max) field and insert it into the Text (XML) DataSet in the markup of an RDL file....and have it appear correctly when the report is rendered in something like the standard Report Viewer Control (or even when being previewed at design time inside of Visual Studio for that matter)?
Just to be clear, the root of my problem, as I see and understand it, is that I have a VarBinary value in a database that is being converted to a string (ASCII...I am presuming) due to how I am writing my stored procedure and then needs to go back to something else binary that the SSRS Engine will accept so that I can see my Image in the report when I render it.
I am wishful that someone out there understands my problem and has run into this and has a solution......but I am wishful of winning the lottery, too, and that hasn't happened yet...............
I have written a VB component to execute a SSIS package stored in SQL server.
I am using the Microsoft.sqlserver.dts.dtsclient, dtsconnection/dtscommand
and executereader and everything works perfect on the local machine. This is descibed in a msdn site .
But my customer have a remote SQL server and want no extra BI clients/SQL server clients etc on the client machine, only an ordinary windows client and network connection to the SQL server.
My question is: Can you still use dtsclient or do you have to do in some other way?
A customer use SCSM 2012 RTM and recently they changed the password of the account that connects with the datasources that use Service Manager to generate reports. There are several datasources namely DWStagingAndConfig, ConfigurationManager, DWDataMart and other ones. The process to change the password of the account, done via web in the SSRS URL instance of Service Manager, requires to enter in the Manage option of each DataSource and replace the password with the right one in the Properties section; is a really simple step. However, after the change, the only Datasource that not allows to access again to the Manage option is DWStagingAndConfig (appears a message that points out to a report server internal error);I append a extract of the SSRS log related to the problem with this Datasource.

Hope this helps someone. My experience is that an interrupted install of SP2 screws things royally, despite signifying success.
My initial attempt at installing SQL Server 2005 SP2 (64-bit) on our dev server resulted in massive corruption of at least one SSIS solution. Without the option to uninstall the SP2, the prospect of a complete reinstall/recovery totally ruined my day.
When I loaded the SSIS solution, all packages returned the following connection based errors "connection manager will not acquire a connection because the package OffLineMode property is TRUE". OffLineMode property was in fact set to the default "False" for all packages. Individual tasks were broken also. I did not search all packages, but FTP and File System tasks were all corrupted. Nor could I successfully create these tasks in a new packages, even within a new solution.
During the install I recived the following error: Error Log: Product : Database Services (MSSQLSERVER) Product Version (Previous): 2153 Product Version (Final) : Status : Failure Log File : C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server90Setup BootstrapLOGHotfixSQL9_Hotfix_KB921896_sqlrun_sql.msp.log Error Number : 29506 Error Description : MSP Error: 29506 SQL Server Setup failed to modify security permissions on file D:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.1MSSQLData for user xxxxx. To proceed, verify that the account and domain running SQL Server Setup exist, that the account running SQL Server Setup has administrator privileges, and that exists on the destination drive.
The SP2 install continued and with the exception of database Services, all other components were installed successfully.
A very helpful person had posted this solution:
The problem is that there exists a file in this Data directory that the user running SP1 does not have permissions to modify. The workaround is to figure out which file this is (typically a user created DB or some backup program files) and to temporarily assign permission to that file(s). You can revert back to the intended permissions after running SP1.
Sure enough, there was a data and a log file with permission restricted to a single user. Granting permission to the account doing the install worked.
I ran the SP2 again and the database Services component "succeeded". In fact, as outlined, my SSIS packages were unusable.
I re-ran the SP2 install. No components were selected for update, so I manually rechecked each component and executed. This time the install completed successfully for all components, and much to my relief, SSIS functionality was restored.
Pretty scrappy install package IMHO. There are obviously dependencies between the different components being updated, but if these dependencies, and therefore integrity of the update, are broken, the installer nevertheless reports success.
There are lots of subscriptions (for different reports) that are being sent out for users on a daily and weekly basis.
For the last few weeks, some of these subscriptions fail. It€™s not the same report subscriptions that fail each week. (Some subscriptions of few (different) reports fail each weekJ).
When we reschedule them, it goes out without any issues. Please let me know if you have ever faced such issues with SSRS report subscriptions. Please let me know if you would require more information.
I have created and deployed an SSRS report, which I am able to access from the same machine using the URL. But I am not able to access the URL from a another machine in the same network.
What could be the problem, do I need to make some configuration changes to the reporting server?
I deployed SSRS reports to my local report server and set the connection string to access a server on the network with Analysis Server.
Result: I can access and use the reports from my computer. But when I use any other computer on the network I can't use the reports. I can access them but they don't find the database ant therefor they don't present any data.
Error message as folows: "An error has occurred during report processing. (rsProcessingAborted) Get Online Help Cannot create a connection to data source 'dsAnalys'. (rsErrorOpeningConnection) Get Online Help Database 'Analys' does not exist. "
This works fine on my local machine, the error comes only when i try to browse on a remote machine. I am using SQL Server 2005
I am using BIDS 2012.I am getting this error: Unable to load assembly U2.

I am expecting C:WindowsMicrosoft.NETFramework64v4.0.30319configmachine.config
how can I force SSRS to use "C:WindowsMicrosoft.NETFramework64v4.0.30319configmachine.config".
