On executing the RESTORE command of SQL Server to restore from a backup of 78.3 MB, the "Server Application Unavailable" error message comes up.The error message in the Application log is as follows:aspnet_wp.exe (PID: 2184) was recycled because memory consumption exceeded the 152 MB (60 percent of available RAM).
However using Query Analyser of SQL Server I am able to restore the database.
What is the solution to this problem?

Jun 2, 2015I have a well-structured but also very large binary data-set that is generated by a C++ application every five minutes. The data needs to be accessed by SQL applications. Since data is generated every five minutes, performance is key, both for write and read. The data set is about 500MB.If data is written to the file system, the write performance doesn't involve SQL server. For reading it, I have a CLR to read the portions of the data that I need based on offset and length. That works and is very fast. The problem is that data is stored in the file system, so it is not self-contained within the database.
A second option that I haven't explored yet, is to write the data into a table as VARBINARY(MAX). I would read the data using SUBSTRING with appropriate offset and length. Performance of SQL write/read of binary data of this size, and whether there is a third option I haven't thought off. I'm using SQL Server 2014.
Stroing C# Objects In SQL Server 2005

I need to knwo if its possible to easily store / retrieve c# objects in SQL Server 2005 as user defined data types or some other type. We need to be able to store collections of simple objects as a single value and be able to and recreate the c# object. For example one type would be a hashtable of objects that just have 2 public members Date and Value

Sep 27, 2004I am having a bit of a mare on the database backup front - i.e. monster
DB, not a great deal of space to back it up into.
As I do the backup, the file on the disk seems to stay at 2KB
How does the file get written? Is there a temp somewhere first?

Feb 1, 2011I've got two databases on the same server and replicate some tables from one database to another.The replication is configured so not to drop the table if it exists, but to delete the data based on the filter if one exists. There are two tables on the subscriber that have some extra columns.
I get "field size too large" error when trying to replicate them. Is there a workaround without having to make the publisher and the subscriber tables identical by schema?

I am trying to resize a database initial log file from 500M to 2M. I€™m using€?
ALTER DATABASE <DBNAME> MODIFY FILE ( NAME = <DBLOGFILENAME, SIZE = 2 ) "
And I'm getting "MODIFY FILE failed. Specified size is less than current size." I tried going into the database properties and setting the log file to 2M, but it doesn€™t keep the changes.
Any help with this process?

I am developing a smart device application with Visual Studio .Net 2005 and SQL Server Compact Edition database. And also using merge replication to synchronize the data from the mobile device to the SQL Server.
My database size is around 350MB. So when I am trying to synchronize this is the error message that I get.
" The database file is larger than the configured maximum database size. The setting takes effect on the first concurrent database connection only.[Required Max Database size ( in MB; 0 if unknown)=129].
I tried changing the Max database size in the connection string and my connection string looks as follows and still did not have any luck.
connstr= "Data Source=Storage CardItems.sdf;Max Database Size=500;"
Any help regarding this would be appreciated.

Jul 20, 2007I have a Database which when I Right Click and go to Properties size is 52 GB
But the Size of MDF + NDF Files is 25 + 7 = 32 GB. Log file Size is 20 GB. So I am thinking -- Properties Size of DB includes size of Log Files too -- is that correct?
But when I do a Full Backup the .bak File Size is 26 GB -- does the Full Backup Shrink a DB ?
I thot Full Backup only Shrink the Log Files and could not find anywhere in BOL where it says BACKUP shrinks the empty space in Database -- can somebody confirm this?

I am facing problem of memory size of database file.
I am using SQL Server Express Edition for my application which will log point values after every second.
I have two table in my database
PointValues1_500 with the following columns
DateAndTime of type DATETIME with cluster index
Val1, Val2, Val3 ----- Val500 of type NUMERIC(18,6)
PointValues501-1000 with following columns
DateAndTime of type DATETIME with cluster index
Val1, Val2, Val3 ----- Val500 of type NUMERIC(18,6)
According to specification provided by microsoft DATETIME takes 8 bytes and NUMERIC(18,6) takes 9 bytes and 132 bytes per row for internal usage. So, it will take 4710 bytes approximately per row including index (if i am right).
When I put 60 rows in each table data file size is increased by 1 MB which should be 4710 * 60 (rows) * 2(tables) = 0.6 MB approx. I this scenario i am losing 0.4 MB memory that will cost me a lot if i have point values for 1 hour = 3600 rows per table.
Please give me a suggestion how to overcome this lost.

The sp_spaceused procedure does a nice job on it's own giving me what I want (only one db though), plus a bonus allocated space column. How can I combine this sp with my other query, or is there a better way to ad this information?

Oct 23, 2015I have a database I need to copy from a Prod server to a Dev server. There is not enough space on the Dev server. In looking at the size of the files on the Prod server, the Initial Size property for the transaction log on the Prod server is set to 100,000 MB though the log is using nowhere near that.
This is a mirrored database so the recovery model is "full". I know that to change the initial log size, I have to put the database in 'simple" recovery model. Is this possible? Can I just:
1. Pause the mirror
2. Switch recovery model to simple
3. Change the initial size property to something smaller.
4. Shrink the transaction log
5. Change the recovery model back to full and resume the mirror?
I honestly don't know if the transaction log is needed on the Dev server. Meaning I may just be able to restore the transaction log to a different location on the server and delete it so that new one is created.
Too Large For The Specified Buffer Size

I've been searching this site and the Web for info on an error message I get when importing from Access 2003 into SQL Server 2000.
'Data for Source Column 3('Col3') is too large for the specified buffer size'
A memo field in Access is larger than 255.
I have followed advice about putting the field to the first column. This doesn't work - the error just returns the new column number. In fact, I've tried just importing the first column - no good.
I am wary about making Registry changes as comments on the Web say this doesn't work either.
Does anybody have the solution for this.

May 9, 2008I have set up transaction replication between two databases. Data from a table in the first database is replicated to the same table in another database.
The table at the publisher already has some data in it. The table at the subscriber is empty. When the replication is synchronizing, I get the following errors in the replication monitor:

Differential Backup Size Very Large
Jan 8, 2001I recently started using Differential backups. They are working but are growing in size a lot quicker than I expected.
The backups are growing by 2.5GB every day although the total size of all
transaction backups is under 350MB. I would have imagined that the total transaction log backups would be a good indicator of total database changes and therefore the differential backups would approach this figure.
Please explain!

I have a issue with the drill down. In the report there is drill down in the Amount column. I am trying to pass the customer names in this drill down but there are more than 100 customers for that specific case and drill down is not able to pass all the customers.
