Suspect Mode (no Icon In SQL 2005)

Jun 12, 2006

In SQL 2005 when a database is in suspect mode there is no obvious way to tell (via SSMS). In SQL 2000 the word "suspect" was displayed (via Enterprise Manager) next to the database, and the respective database icon was grayed out. Why was this behavior changed for SQL 2005? From a disaster recovery standpoint, it is very important to see immediately if a database is in suspect mode.

can anyone tell me what would casuse this error:

2001-09-12 21:21:01.11 kernel udopen: Operating system error 32(The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.) during the creation/opening of physical device C:MSSQL7dataReporting.mdf.

2001-09-12 21:21:01.11 kernel FCB::Open failed: Could not open device C:MSSQL7dataReporting.mdf for virtual device number (VDN) 1.

What other things would cause the Reporting.mdf to be locked so the SQL server could not open it?

Database In Suspect Mode

May 12, 2000

I have a database in suspect mode. There is no backup of this database.
I've followed the troubleshooting and it isn't working out.
There are 3 steps:
1. execute sp_resetstatus
2. use alter database to add data file or log file to the database
3. stop and restart SQL Server
4. free disk space and rerun recovery
I've tried to make it, but the step # 2 haven't worked.
Then I tried step 3, however the database is still in suspect mode.
What should I do?
Is there something I am missing?
Thanks,
Fábio

MSDB In Suspect Mode.

Sep 6, 2007

Hi,

I have mssql 2005 installed and i see that MSDB database is marked as suspect. I almost tried all the steps which are submitted in the forums.

1) I shut down the server, navigating to the directory 'd:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.1MSSQLBinn' and doing the following: start sqlservr.exe -c -T3608
2) renamed the damaged msdb files (msdbdata.mdf and msdblog.ldf in the 'd:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.1MSSQLData' directory)
3) Run the instmsdb.sql script in the 'd:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.1MSSQLInstall' directory

--x---
When I executed third step it returned me below error:
Msg 926, Level 14, State 1, Line 63
Database 'msdb' cannot be opened. It has been marked SUSPECT by recovery. See the SQL Server errorlog for more information.

Please advice me.

Database Went In To LOAD/SUSPECT Mode

Apr 13, 2001

Hi,
When i tried to restore database from the Network m/c ...upto 60% of the restoration process went well,But after that i got message saying that
" Communication link failure " then database went in to LOAD/SUSPECT mode,
This happend in Active/Active Cluster environment and at the same point of time Fail over occured and resources moved to other node.

i tried by running SP_RESETSTATUS stored procedure to change the status of the Database ,But no use...
Then i deleted the Database and recreated and restored.. because it was a test server...BUT if it happens in Production what to do?????.....
Is there anyway to over come such situations...

Thanks in advance

DB Engine :: Recover Server Database From SUSPECT Mode

Apr 24, 2015

As I know the database should be restored from backup and logs reapplied. That’s the first and generally recommended approach any time a DB is suspect, whether it’s from log or data file corruption. But if I have no backups then we follow below steps ( after Googling I found these steps on most of the websites ):

1.EXEC sp_resetstatus ‘yourDBname’;
2.ALTER DATABASE yourDBname SET EMERGENCY
3.DBCC checkdb(’yourDBname’)
4.ALTER DATABASE yourDBname SET SINGLE_USER WITH ROLLBACK IMMEDIATE
5.DBCC CheckDB (’yourDBname’, REPAIR_ALLOW_DATA_LOSS)
6.ALTER DATABASE yourDBname SET MULTI_USER

Now my question is,
1. If after executing DBCC CHECKDB at 3rd step, it shows inconsistency. Then I will execute SET SINGLE USER WITH ROLLBACK & if after executing DBCC CHECKDB at 3rd step, no errors found. Then what will be the steps?

2. When we execute DBCC CHECKDB (' DBNAME ', REPAIR_ALLOW_DATA_LOSS) how can we recover lost data during process. As far as I know some data will loss and if it will happen then business will get suffered.

3. Why run DBCC CHECKDB() WITH REPAIR_ALLOW_DATA_LOSS if there are no consistency errors in the database?

MSDE In &"SUSPECT&" Mode.

I was trying to restore a "mdf" (MSDE) database for a HP OpenView product, unfortunately at the initial state of restoration, i got the following error messages:

Database 'openview' cannot be opened. It has been marked SUSPECT by recovery.
See the SQL Server errorlog for more information.

Any valuable suggestions on how to set/change the current "SUSPECT" mode so that the 'openview' database can be opened?

How To Set Database Status To Suspect.don't Resolve The Suspect Problem,I Want To Suspect Database

Apr 29, 2008

Hi

and then start the server
use command to check:
SELECT status & 256 FROM master.dbo.sysdatabases WHERE name = database_name
if the result is 256,it means the msdb is suspect, but the result is 0,it same as the normal status
do you know how to set database suspect with this way, or do you know other way to suspect databse.

Show Suspect But Not Suspect

Mar 23, 2007

One of my database (name XYZ) shows suspect status in EM but when i try to dig further by running below query i get only "OK" ( see query)

SELECT [name],status, case status when (status & 32) then 'Loading'
when (status & 32) then 'Loading'
when (status & 64) then 'Pre Recovery'
when (status & 128) then 'Recovering'
when (status & 256) then 'Not recoverd'
when (status & 512) then ' Offline'
when (status & 1024) then ' Single user'
when (status & 1024) then ' Read only'
when (status & 32768) then ' Emergency Mode' else 'OK' end as status
FROM master.dbo.sysdatabases
WHERE [name] NOT IN ('distribution', 'tempdb', 'model','Pubs','Northwind')

also i run this

select * from sysdatabases where databaseproperty(name,N'IsSuspect') <> 1

and here also i get all the database including "XYZ"...i guess if "XYZ" is suspect the resultset should not be including "XYZ"

Why if the EM shows suspect status FOR "XYZ" DATABASE it should come up when i check status column in sysdatabases table?

SQL Express Icon

Jun 19, 2006

Earlier versions of SQL had an icon in the system tray - which was very useful. I cannot seem to find how you activate this in 2005.

Also you could schedule a job MSDE 2000 to, say, backup a database. I can't find how you do this in SQL Express.

EM Blank Status Icon

May 8, 2001

Why would some of my servers that I have registered not show a green arrow (or any connection status for that matter). It's just a blank white circle. Is there some sort of connection error happening between me and the server?

It's sort of annoying to click on these servers and have the error "SQL Server xxxx is not known to be running. Are you sure you wish to connect?" Any way to get around that?

Thanks..

Sql Server Agent Icon

Jul 23, 2002

Can anybody tell me what the following icon means against the SQL Server Agent in EM. I'll describe as best as I can:

Its the usual pc tower picture, but instead of the usual green arrow or red square at the bottom, I'm getting what looks like a window (its very small, I can't tell exactly).

When I see this icon, I can't see or change the Service Startup Account under properties and EM doesn't seem to know if the service is stopped or started (I get the option to do either - although both fail if I try them)

Any help would be appreciated

Andy

Interactive Sorting Icon

May 14, 2008

Is there any way to change the interactive sorting icon or even adjust it? When I add the functionality to a column, it skews the column heading to make room for it. This means that reports that previously displayed properly no longer look correct. If I adjust the width of the report to allow room for the icon, then the report overflows its boundary in terms of printing.

Also, the icon does not display evenly all the time. Sometimes, it displays directly next to the text and sometimes it is off to the right more.

SQL 2005 Compatability Mode

Feb 23, 2007

Hi,We currently have a fairly old product, which was originally onlycompatible with SQL 2000.When we upgraded our server to SQL 2005, the client product gave us a"This product is not compatible with this version of SQL server"error. We put the server into SQL 2000 compatability mode, and things worked. Then I tested a Windows Vista workstation client. The error returned.I realise that if we are simply dealing with a client incompatabilitywith Vista, then I'm in the wrong forum, but what I'm hoping is thatsomeone knows anything server side, perhaps where SQL 2000compatability mode becomes ignored for some reason, when the client isrunning Vista. The vendor pretty much no longer exists, and nothing I've been able todo with Vista's compatability modes has been helpful so far.

Still A Problem With Report Refresh Icon

May 19, 2006

In my installation of RS 2005 when I click the Refresh Icon on a report the report doesnt update. But when I click the "View Report" button it does.

For example, if I change the parameters on the report and click the refresh icon the report seems to flicker as if it was rfreshing but the report data remains the same, even the paramaters in the report remain the same (I have the parameters that are selected in the report header)

Anyone have the same problem or know the solution?

System Tray Icon Missing?

Jun 14, 2006

Hi all,

I apologize if this question has already been asked a dozen times, I ran a search and came up with nothing, soooo...

I installed SQL Server 2005 Express Edition SP1 + SQL Management Studio Express.

I attached all my old databases, and setup named pips, tcp/ip, etc, but for some reason, I don't see a SQL 2005 Express Icon in the system tray to indicate to me if the Server is running or not.

now I undestand Express doesn't come with Agent tools, but where on earth is my tray icon? Do I need to download the 'advanced reporting tools' version instead? (about 200mb+)

RS 2005 SP2 In Sharepoint Integrated Mode

Mar 6, 2007

Up until an hour ago, I was using the Sql Server Reporting Services Report Viewer webpart in Sharepoint with forms authentication, and was not having an issue. The only thing that I did (or remember doing) before things went sour was upload a new report to the document list and since then whenever I try to access a report, manage the data source on a report, change the report URL in the webpart, I get the following message:

An unexpected error occurred while connecting to the report server. Verify that the report server is available and configured for SharePoint integrated mode. --> The request failed with the error message:
--
<html><head><title>Object moved</title></head><body>
<h2>Object moved to <a href="/_layouts/login.aspx?ReturnUrl=%2f_vti_bin%2fReportServer%2fReportService2006.asmx">here</a>.</h2>
</body></html>

--.

I found some related posts and have tried the following, but none have helped:

Removed all reports and reuploaded only the one that was definitely working.
I changed the application pool for the report server to be the same app pool as Sharepoint (runs under domain admin account).
I changed the application pool for the report server back to it's original (which the Reporting Services Configuration prefers - was running under Network Service acct before the problem started, now running under domain admin acct)
I can browse to http://server/reportserver.
I'm running under forms authentication, which had been working.
I can access the three configs for Reporting Services under Application Management in Central Admin - I've tried changing the settings.
I can access http://server/_vti_bin/reportserver/reportservice2006.asmx as well as http://server/_vti_bin/reportserver/reportserviceauthentication.asmx (that was suggested in one post)
I've restarted IIS numerous times, and also finally rebooted the server.
I've created a new document list and set it for report content, just like the other list.

I also just noticed that even though I've set up my admin account as a site collection administrator, I now no longer see my report options under the New button in the document library (both the old and new). I don't know if this is related.

I'm sure that this is a case of something minor that I did that I forgot about. Any suggestions or other troubleshooting that I can do?

Thanks!

daw
