Still A Problem With Report Refresh Icon
May 19, 2006
In my installation of RS 2005 when I click the Refresh Icon on a report the report doesnt update. But when I click the "View Report" button it does.
For example, if I change the parameters on the report and click the refresh icon the report seems to flicker as if it was rfreshing but the report data remains the same, even the paramaters in the report remain the same (I have the parameters that are selected in the report header)
Anyone have the same problem or know the solution?

HI, there,
I added a new windows user "ReportUser" which is a local user (not in administrator group). When I connect to the report manage's web page, I use reportuser to log in (when the anonymous access is disabled it will ask a log in). Report builder icon is not showing up on the report manager home page.
If I log in as a user in administrator group, the reportr builder icon shows up so I can download it and build report.
I have assigned reportuser "Content manager" and "repoter builder" access to the home folder. Is there anything else I have to do to make the report build icon show up on the home page?
Thanks
Jack

Is it possible to dynamically refresh the report model of the report builder?
could it even be using code with any of the interfaces?
When we add a table or add a column to the table in database , will the report model get refreshed automatically or do we need to do it externally. If so, can we use any of the objects and write a custom code in VB.

Hello
I'm new at creating reports in reporting services and I have a basic question.
My problem is that for some reason my reports don't refresh right away, even after I press the recycle button.
I change a value on the table on a database and click on the refresh button of the report. But I have to give it sometime and click the refresh in order for the report to show the changed data.
I have some charts in the report as well, so maybe I'm missing a configuration setting somewhere.
Please help a newbie out.
Thanks
Peter

I have a need to refresh a report after applying a filter on the data that is displayed, without accessing the database.
The following example is a simplified version of the functionality I'm trying to accomplish. The first report displays Sales & Projection data for all products. On clicking a particular product in the header, the second report displays just that product and the total metrics. I have created an rdl file for both the reports and based on the parameters passed, it displays one or several products. My concern is that the report is having to access the AS cube every time a product is clicked. In the real report, it's taking minutes to get the data. Is there way I can get the report to refresh to apply the filter without accessing the database again? Thanks in advance...

I have a situation where I have created a report using Power Pivot data Model Manage and linked to a SQL View using external sources from SQL Server. Once the View was linked from SQL server, I created the report in Power View from Inserted --> Power View. Since the business user requested the same data to be replicated in the excel worksheet in the form of excel, I created a version of excel report by selecting Data tab--> From other sources-->SQL Server --> connected to View (Same view that I connected in Power Pivot Data model for Power View report).
Once I created all the reports in my local excel and proceeded to upload in Office 365 share point. I followed the below steps:
1. Create a data source using the admin power bi website
using the connection string..Excel sheet Data tab --> Properties --> Connection String
2. Once the Data Source was created, Uploaded the excel report to the Power BI website.
3. Scheduled for the daily refresh updates.
Expected result:Since the connection set up was all successful and no issues with the refresh schedules, I was expecting to see my reports in both Worksheet reports in excel version and Power View reports to be refreshed on a daily basis. And daily transactions to appear on the reports on both Power view and excel worksheet reports.
Actual Result:I now only see the data refreshed in Power view reports and not the reports linked through Data--> sql server--> view ( i.e., excel worksheet reports). What surprises to me eve more is my refresh schedule was always successful. I do not see the refresh failed message.
I wanted both the power view and excel worksheet reports to get refreshed on a daily basis.

Hi everyone!,
Our team is new to SSRS and we are trying to figure out how to refresh the data source view, autogenerate the corressponding report model and Re-Deploy the Report Model (rewrite existing Report Model) on the server on a periodoc basis or trigger the whole action whenever there is a change in the database on some specific tables.
We prefer to do this action through a Agent job ( a diff approach is also welcome).
Are there any stored procs out there?
Appreciate your time.

I am using excel 2010 and SQL server as a data source. When I create a report with the User name "demo_user" which has db_writer access, and mail it to the colleague , he could not refresh the data with the "demo_user" credentials and apparently its throwing user name or password invalid. The one who created only could be able to refresh the data.
What should I do If other people want to refresh the data? How could I fix this issue? We are using SQL server 2012 and excel 2010 powerpivot.

how to trigger report's refresh following its underlying SSAS cubes process?
I want to keep reports data updated at all times, especially when this happens while user is already browsing the report..
I don't want to set an auto refresh for the report every 5 minutes as my cube is processed only one time during the day...

Hi,
I'm still quite a beginner with the Report Designer and now I have faced a problem. My goal is to make a reports refresh each time it is loaded. I know that this can be done by using rs:clearsession = true-method but in order this to work, it should be added to each link. There are a lots of links in the reports we are using and therefore it would be more practical to find another way to refresh the report on page load. Is there any way to do this with some kind of code attached to each report? I'm using Visual Studio 2003 and my Reporting services 2000.

Is there any way to configure a notification icon in the start tray in Express 2005 (like we had in SQL Server 2000) with a little green (or red) arrow (or dot) to indicate whether the server's up (or down)?

Earlier versions of SQL had an icon in the system tray - which was very useful. I cannot seem to find how you activate this in 2005.
Also you could schedule a job MSDE 2000 to, say, backup a database. I can't find how you do this in SQL Express.

Why would some of my servers that I have registered not show a green arrow (or any connection status for that matter). It's just a blank white circle. Is there some sort of connection error happening between me and the server?
It's sort of annoying to click on these servers and have the error "SQL Server xxxx is not known to be running. Are you sure you wish to connect?" Any way to get around that?
Thanks..

Can anybody tell me what the following icon means against the SQL Server Agent in EM. I'll describe as best as I can:
Its the usual pc tower picture, but instead of the usual green arrow or red square at the bottom, I'm getting what looks like a window (its very small, I can't tell exactly).
When I see this icon, I can't see or change the Service Startup Account under properties and EM doesn't seem to know if the service is stopped or started (I get the option to do either - although both fail if I try them)
Any help would be appreciated
Regards
Andy

Is there any way to change the interactive sorting icon or even adjust it? When I add the functionality to a column, it skews the column heading to make room for it. This means that reports that previously displayed properly no longer look correct. If I adjust the width of the report to allow room for the icon, then the report overflows its boundary in terms of printing.
Also, the icon does not display evenly all the time. Sometimes, it displays directly next to the text and sometimes it is off to the right more.

In SQL 2005 when a database is in suspect mode there is no obvious way to tell (via SSMS). In SQL 2000 the word "suspect" was displayed (via Enterprise Manager) next to the database, and the respective database icon was grayed out. Why was this behavior changed for SQL 2005? From a disaster recovery standpoint, it is very important to see immediately if a database is in suspect mode.

Hi all,
I apologize if this question has already been asked a dozen times, I ran a search and came up with nothing, soooo...
I installed SQL Server 2005 Express Edition SP1 + SQL Management Studio Express.
I attached all my old databases, and setup named pips, tcp/ip, etc, but for some reason, I don't see a SQL 2005 Express Icon in the system tray to indicate to me if the Server is running or not.
now I undestand Express doesn't come with Agent tools, but where on earth is my tray icon? Do I need to download the 'advanced reporting tools' version instead? (about 200mb+)
TIA,

My co-worker, no idiot, says that the tooltip in the system tray forthe SS2000 icon usually shows the computer and server, but once in awhile shows the password (two slashes and the password). Is this a known bug of some sort? It really shouldn't be showing hispassword. It's likely the developer edition, but still, that isn'tgood.

I am getting a general protection fault when pressing the print icon in Reporting Services website.
Hi I found this article:
http://database.ittoolbox.com/groups/technical-functional/sql-server-l/reporting-services-2005-print-icon-causes-machine-to-reboot-1592477
but I can't figure ou how to "remove" the RSClientPrint Class add-on in IE 6.
P.S.
Why does something as simple as printing need to be an ActiveX control? There are all kinds of issues revolving around pushing this out using SMS for users without local admin permission.

So i finally figured out how to create custom transform and add an icon to it. However - when i added the component to toolbox it appears as a file icon (when i didnt have icon it appeared as a blue box) - in the data flow designer it appears as the correct image.
From BOL wrote:"The Data Flow toolbox uses the 16x16, 16-color image type, while
the design surface of the data flow tab uses the 32x32, 16-color image
type. Both are default image types for icons created using Microsoft
Visual Studio 2005."
I assume this has something to do with it - my ico is default 32x32 - however, what would be the way to fix it?

I am adding some KPI-style graphics to a report (BIDS 2005) and for consistency I would like to use the same icons that are available in the Excel 2007 icon sets that are used for conditional formatting in spreadsheets - there's no point in having users learn another set of icons. Are these graphics available anywhere so they can be added as embedded images in a report? Am I missing some other way to do this?
Thanks,

Hi,
Have two servers, one production server and one backup server. Both are Windows 2003 Server having SQL Server 2000 installed.
I have created replication on these servers using a wizard. I then generated SQL scripts to delete and create the replication. These scripts work well, but to test to remove the replication on both servers I used sp_removedbreplication 'DBNAME' on both servers. Not all were removed and on Replication Monitor and sub items plus Log Reader Agent there were added an icon, a red 'X' as in error. The replication seems to work.
Does anyone have any idea on why this happened and what I can do about it. It is not very nice to have errors in replication on a customers servers.
Grateful for answers
Best,
/M

Hi All
I installed the following in order:
1. .NET Framework Version 1.1 Redistributable
2. .NET Framework Version 1.1 Software Development Kit (SDK)
3. MSDE 2000 Rel A
In the command window I changed to the directory where MSDE 2000 Rel A was installed and typed in this:
setup.exe INSTANCENAME=MyDb DISABLENETWORKPROTOCOLS=1 SAPWD=<My SA PASSWORD>
MSDE installed successfully and the little icon appeared in the system tray, next to the clock. However, there was no little green arrow/triangle showing on the icon to show connection status as Connected.
4. ASP.NET Commerce Starter Kit
During the Starter Kit install a Connect to Database window opened - Connect to SQL or MSDE.
In the 'Server' field the following was automatically displayed:
STEVE-HOME/MyDb
Where STEVE-HOME is the name of my computer (changed from 'localhost') and MyDb is the instance name.
Thw 'Windows Authentication' radio button was selected by default. I left this unchanged, then clicked OK.
A window opened asking to test the connection. I clicked OK and the connection was successful.
(I didn't select the SQL Server authentication or enter a username, password or select a Database.)
The Starter Kit installed successfully and works fine. However, the SQL Server Service Manager icon states it is not connected when I mouse over it.
I opened the SQL Server Service Manager window and the Server and Services fields are blank.
Surely the Starter Kit wouldn't work if MSDE wasn't connected.
Can anyone advise on how to get the icon to show it is connected
Your help would be greatly appreciated.

I have an existing data warehouse that is refreshed nightly from system1.
We will be moving to a new system2 1/1/06.
The old system1 will be phased out by the end of 2006.
Several tables on system2 will have different keys.
I have to move the data from both systems in the data warehouse.
Here's the issue.
I have to totaly refresh the data warehouse nightly.
Once system2 is phased out how do I keep the data from system1
and refresh only data from system2.

HI,
I have a problem with the data that I want to delete and insert new one on my SQL.It will work if I just delete a row. And work well if I just insert a row.But it will not work if I delete and insert at once on one procedure.
Here's the code :
Protected Sub RolesRadioButtonList_SelectedIndexChanged(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles RolesRadioButtonList.SelectedIndexChanged Session("CurrentRoleId") = Me.RolesRadioButtonList.SelectedValue ' Call Sub RemoveUsersInRoles RemoveUsersInRoles() ' Call Sub AddNewUsersInRoles AddNewUsersInRoles() End Sub Sub RemoveUsersInRoles() ' Create SQL database connection Dim sqlConn As New SqlConnection("Data Source=.SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename=|DataDirectory|ASPNETDB.MDF;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True") Dim cmd As New SqlCommand cmd.CommandType = CommandType.Text ' Delete that row with correct UserId cmd.CommandText = "DELETE aspnet_UsersInRoles WHERE (UserId = '" & Session("CurrentUserId") & "')" cmd.Connection = sqlConn sqlConn.Open() cmd.ExecuteNonQuery() ' Close SQL connecton sqlConn.Close() End Sub Sub AddNewUsersInRoles() ' Create SQL database connection Dim sqlConn As New SqlConnection("Data Source=.SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename=|DataDirectory|ASPNETDB.MDF;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True") sqlConn.Open() ' Create new row with new UserId Dim sqlString As String = "INSERT INTO aspnet_UsersInRoles (UserId, RoleId) VALUES( '" & Session("CurrentUserId") & "','" & Session("CurrentRoleId") & "')" Dim sqlComm As New SqlCommand(sqlString, sqlConn) Dim sqlExec As Integer = sqlComm.ExecuteNonQuery ' Close SQL connection sqlConn.Close() End Sub-------------------------------------------
I can delete the row if I call 'RemoveUsersInRoles'And I can insert new one if I call 'AddNewUsersInRoles'
But if 'RolesRadioButtonList_SelectedIndexChanged' is called, it will not work well.If the row not exist, it will insert new row. And that what I want. But If the row is exist, It wont delete that row and wont insert the new one. That's the problem.
Do I need some 'pause' or 'refresh connection' here ?
Thank You.

Our application is C++ and datbases are Sybase. We are 11.5.1 Sybase. Lately some of our clients have complained about data refresh problems. That if a user has made some changes within the application then these data changes are taking long time to reflect to other users in the system. We do have in our application processes to automatically refresh data for other users but for some odd reason it is not working properly. Also every day we run sp_recompile and sp_stat on the tables and stored procs. Any ideas or leads ?

You know how I mentioned before that I was working with a database with a (bunch of) view(s) that are defined like this...
CREATE VIEW MyView AS
SELECT * FROM ExampleTable
Well, after altering the underlying table I noticed that the view is not picking up the new columns which leads me to believe I need to refresh the view.
Is this possible, if so, how?
