T-SQL (SS2K8) :: Converting Datetime To 112 Type?

Nov 14, 2014

I want YYYYMMDD.

If I do this it works:

SELECT CONVERT(varchar(8), GETDATE(), 112)

Gives me this:

20141114

If I treat as parameter it doesn't:

DECLARE @date_start datetime

SET @date_start = CONVERT(varchar(8), GETDATE(), 112)
SELECT @date_start;

Gives me this:

2014-11-14 00:00:00.000

how to pass the converted value in 112 style as a parameter?

Error Converting Data Type Varchar To Datetime.

Feb 16, 2007

Hi,
It is not exactly what I stated in the subject - It's an outcome - exception thrown while executing non-query command.
I get this exception when I try to execute my stored procedure that takes datetime as one of its parameters.
I am using dataset designer to create table adapters and build queries. Then I simply use objectdatasource component that uses one of the table adapters and bind it to for example a detailsview control.
When I run this in debug mode and trace the objects everything looks perfect including these datetime parameters. It is sql server that throws the exception. I ran the sql profiler to see what exactly is going on, and I captured the command that is sent by ADO - it's broken into several lines right in the middle of my datetime parameters... this is the source of the problem. Everything is working fine when I take this command and execute it as a single line in the sql management studio.
Is there anything about ADO that I do not know?

Error Converting Data Type DBTYPE_DBTIMESTAMP To Datetime

Jul 7, 2004

I'm getting the error Error converting data type DBTYPE_DBTIMESTAMP to datetime when I try to import a date field from Oracle to SQL Server.

SELECT CAST(cancel_dt as datetime) FROM OPENQUERY(orcldb, 'SELECT cancel_dt FROM tablename WHERE id= 12345')

The date in Oracle is 19-JUN-99, but it's coming over as 06/19/0999 and it throws the error because the year 999 is invalid in SQL Server. Any ideas on why Oracle or SQL server would convert the year to 0999 instead of 1999?
This is also happening on a value 24-SEP-07 coming over as 09/24/0207

Most other date values work, so I'd really like to get in depth into the process that occurs when converting to a SQL Server datetime.

Error Converting Data Type Nvarchar To Datetime

Jun 2, 2008

Hi,

I'm pretty desperat after trying solving the above problem in several days. I hope somone here can help me :-)

I have this stored procedure. When I try to Execute the storedprocedure where I have a date as parameter I get the above error.

I checked (many times), that the input parameter is a datetime format (30-05-2008) and also I checked the tabel and it is datetime format. I checked the table to see if it was english datetime format - but all the datetimes that are listet are listed in danish datetime format DD-MM-YYYY.

In the stored procedure I try this:

fProjectSkuTimeStamp >= @ReducedTime

I can't figure out where it gets that nvarchar from?

My stored procedure look like this:

T-SQL (SS2K8) :: XML Validation - Invalid Simple Type Value DateTime

Jun 23, 2014

I have an issue with validating an XML file I have from a 3rd party.

Willing to improve and standardise company's process, I have created an XML schema collection (SQL 2008R2), but when I validate the XML file against it I always keep getting the above error: Invalid simple type value dateTime.

Definition of dateTime from w3schools website says:
------ Start of quote ----
"DateTime Data Type
The dateTime data type is used to specify a date and a time.
The dateTime is specified in the following form "YYYY-MM-DDThh:mm:ss" where:
YYYY indicates the year
MM indicates the month
DD indicates the day
T indicates the start of the required time section
hh indicates the hour
mm indicates the minute
ss indicates the second

Note: All components are required!

The following is an example of a dateTime declaration in a schema:

<xs:element name="startdate" type="xs:dateTime"/>
An element in your document might look like this:
<startdate>2002-05-30T09:00:00</startdate>

------ End of quote ----

So I would assume that dates like 2012-10-24T14:23:00 or 2012-10-24T14:15:00 should be fine, but no -fails.

It works though only if I add "Z" at the end. Obviously 3rd party do not want to change anything, as it works for ages.

Arithmetic Overflow Error Converting Expression To Data Type Datetime

Sep 20, 2006

Hi all,In the beginning of this month I've build a website with a file-upload-control. When uploading a file, a record (filename, comment, datetime) gets written to a SQLExpress database, and in a gridview a list of the files is shown. On the 7th of September I uploaded some files to my website, and it worked fine. In the database, the datetime-record shows "07/09/2006 11:45". When I try to upload a file today, it gives me the following error: Error: Arithmetic overflow error converting expression to data type datetime. The statement has been terminated.While searching in google, i found it might have something to do with the language settings of my SQLExpress, I've tried changing this, but it didn't help. What I find weird is that it worked fine, and now it doesn't anymore. Here is my code of how I get the current date to put it into the database:1 SqlDataSource2.InsertParameters.Add("DateInput", DateTime.Now.ToString());
Am I doing something wrong, or am I searching for a solution in the wrong place? best regards, Dimitri

T-SQL (SS2K8) :: Arithmetic Overflow Error Converting Varchar To Data Type Numeric Message When Field Is Decimal

Apr 3, 2014

I am trying to setup an indicator value for an SSRS report to show green and red values on a report, based on the NRESULT value. The problem I am facing is that I have several different CASE statements that have the same logic, and they are processing just fine. NRESULT is a decimal field, so no conversion should be necessary. I do not know why I am getting the "Arithmetic overflow error converting varchar to data type numeric." error message.

Below is the CASE statement where the error is occurring. It is in the part of the ELSE CASE. The first CASE works just fine when the ELSE CASE is commented out. If I also change the ELSE CASE statement to say "else case when LEFT(NRESULT,1) = '-' then '0'", then it processes fine, too, so it has to be something I am missing something in the check on negative values. I do need the two checks, one for positive and one for negative values, to take place.

case when LEFT(NRESULT,1) <> '-' then --This portion, for checking positive values, of the CASE statement works fine.
CASE WHEN LEFT(ROUND(NRESULT,2),4) between 0.00 and 0.49 THEN '2' --Green
ELSE CASE WHEN LEFT(ROUND(NRESULT,2),4) > 0.49 THEN '0' --Red
ELSE '3' --White
END
END
else case when LEFT(NRESULT,1) = '-' then --This portion, for checking negative values, of the CASE statement is producing the conversion error message.

[code]....

I checked the NRESULT field, and there are not any NULL values in there, either.

Converting A Data Type Double To A Type Float Using A Data Adapter && SSCE 3.5

Feb 13, 2008

Hi,

I can populate a dataTable with type double (C#) of say '1055.01' however when I save these to the CE3.5 database using a float(CE3.5) I lose the decimal portion. The 'offending' code is:

this.court0TableAdapter1.Update(this.mycourtsDataSet1.Court0);

this.mycourtsDataSet1.AcceptChanges();

this.court0TableAdapter1.Fill(this.mycourtsDataSet1.Court0);

This did not happen with VS2005/CE3.01.

I have tried changing all references to decimal (or money in CE3.5) without luck.

I'm beginning to think that string may be the way to go!!!!!!!

Can someone shed some light on my problem.

Thanks,

Later:

It's necessary to update the datatable adapter as the 3.01 and 3.5 CE are not compatible.

COnverting Numeric Data Type (Oracle) To Date Data Type Using SSIS

Mar 7, 2007

We have some columns in a table where the date is stored as 19980101 (YYYYMMDD). The data type for this column is NUMBER(8) in Oracle.

I need to copy rows from Oracle to SQL Server using SSIS. I used the Data Conversion transformation editor to change it to DT_DATE, but the rows are not being inserted to the destination.

On Error, If I fail the component, then the error is :

There was an error with input column "ORDER_DATE_CONV" (1191) on input "OLE DB Destination Input" (29). The column status returned was: "Conversion failed because the data value overflowed the specified type.".

Index Creation Causes Error The Conversion Of A Char Data Type To A Datetime Data Type Resulted...

Jul 23, 2005

Hi all,I have a table called PTRANS with few columns (see create script below).I have created a view on top that this table VwTransaction (See below)I can now run this query without a problem:select * from dbo.VwTransactionwhereAssetNumber = '101001' andTransactionDate <= '7/1/2003'But when I create an index on the PTRANS table using the command below:CREATE INDEX IDX_PTRANS_CHL# ON PTRANS(CHL#)The same query that ran fine before, fails with the error:Server: Msg 242, Level 16, State 3, Line 1The conversion of a char data type to a datetime data type resulted inan out-of-range datetime value.I can run the same query by commeting out the AssetNumber clause and itworks fine. I can also run the query commenting out the TransactionDatecolumn and it works fine. But when I have both the conditions in theWHERE clause, it gives me this error. Dropping the index solves theproblem.Can anyone tell me why an index would cause a query to fail?Thanks a lot in advance,AmirCREATE TABLE [PTRANS] ([CHL#] [varchar] (100) COLLATE SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS NULL ,[CHCENT] [numeric](2, 0) NOT NULL ,[CHYYMM] [numeric](4, 0) NOT NULL ,[CHDAY] [numeric](2, 0) NOT NULL ,[CHTC] [char] (2) COLLATE SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS NOT NULL) ON [PRIMARY]GOCREATE VIEW dbo.vwTransactionsASSELECT CONVERT(datetime, dbo.udf_AddDashes(REPLICATE('0', 2 -LEN(CHCENT)) + CONVERT(varchar, CHCENT) + REPLICATE('0', 4 -LEN(CHYYMM))+ CONVERT(varchar, CHYYMM) + REPLICATE('0', 2 -LEN(CHDAY)) + CONVERT(varchar, CHDAY)), 20) AS TransactionDate,CHL# AS AssetNumber,CHTC AS TransactionCodeFROM dbo.PTRANSWHERE (CHCENT <> 0) AND (CHTC <> 'RA')*** Sent via Developersdex http://www.developersdex.com ***Don't just participate in USENET...get rewarded for it!
