Transact SQL :: Retrieve Currently Created Date From Master Table To Load Into Parent And Child Table

May 12, 2015

In Master tabel i have these date datas

2015-05-10

2015-05-11

2015-05-12

SO when i try to load from  Master table to parent and child table i am using using expresssion like

select B.ID,A.* FROM FLATFILE_INVENTORY AS A JOIN DMS_INVENTORY AS B ON
A.ACDealerID=B.DMSDEALERID AND A.StockNumber=B.STOCKNUMBER AND
A.InventoryDate=B.INVENTORYDATE AND A.VehicleVIN=B.VEHICLEVIN
WHERE convert(date,A.[FtpDate]) = convert(date,GETDATE())  and convert(date,B.Ftpdate) = convert(date,getdate()) ;

If i use this Expression i am getting the current system date data's only  from Master table to parent and child tables.

My Problem is If i do this in my local sserver using the above Expression if i loaded today date and if need to load yesterday date i can change my system date to yesterday date and i can run this Expression.so that yeserday date data alone will get loaded from Master to parent and  child tables.

If i run this expression to remote server  i cannot change the system date in server.

while using this Expression for current date its loads perfectly but when i try to load yesterday data it takes current date date only not the yesterday date data.

What is the Expression on which ever  date i am trying load in  the master table  same date need to loaded in Parent and child table without changing the system Date.

Transact SQL :: Usage Of OUTPUT Clause Depending On Temporary Table

Jul 14, 2015

Suppose we have the following table in our database;

CREATE TABLE [dbo].[PERMISSION](
[ID] [int] IDENTITY(1,1) NOT NULL,
[USERID] [int] NOT NULL,
[STARTTIME] [smalldatetime] NOT NULL,
[ENDTIME] [smalldatetime] NOT NULL,
[REASON] [nvarchar](250) NULL,
[PERMISSIONTYPEID] [int] NOT NULL,

[code]....

This code works pretty well. But I don't want to do this with "select" since there is OUTPUT clause in T-SQL. So the CommandText property will be changed into this;

command.CommandText = @"insert PERMISSION
output INSERTED.ID, INSERTED.CREATETIME into @outID, @outCREATETIME
values(2, getdate(), getdate(), 'sdfg', 1, DEFAULT);";

well, not only this statement gives an error while executing; but also, no such usage defined in the

documentation of OUTPUT Clause. Actually the documentation tell us to use Temporary Tables for that. So I have to change CommandText into this;
command.CommandText = @"DECLARE @MyTableVar table(ID int, CREATETIME smalldatetime);
insert PERMISSION
output INSERTED.ID, INSERTED.CREATETIME into @MyTableVar

code]....

No temporary tables required; thus, no "type spesific" things required. This way is easier to create dynamic queries though. Only,the RETURNING INTO clause.So, I was wondering; why MS-SQL (T-SQL) forces users to "declare a temporary table (type specific)" and "execute select on the temporary table in order to assign values to output parameters" while using "the OUTPUT Clause". Comparing to the Oracle's sample I'm just using "the RETURNING INTO Clause in order to assign values to output parameters" and that's it; very easy and dynamic. To Summarize, Oracle's RETURNING INTO Clause is better than MS-SQL's OUTPUT Clause, but in fact they're doing the same job.

Created Linked Server, Cant Do A Select On That Server

Mar 1, 2008

I created a linked server on server A to server B as follows...

USE master;

GO

EXEC sp_addlinkedserver

'B',

N'SQL Server'

GO

...in mgt studio (in a connection to A) from my local where as a person with sys admin rights on both A and B I'm having no problems connecting to either and running queries. When I run a query from a connection on A as select * from .[a db on B] .[an owner on B].[a table on B], I get an error that says Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITYANONYMOUS LOGON'.

I believe both A and B are in the same domain

the default behavior that I saw checked in the linked server's security properties was "connection will be made using the logins current security context".

when change the default and clicked and entered "this security context" as domainuserid and password, rerun the query, I get error Login failed for user 'domain nameuserid'.

is there a simple way to get this to work, at least for test purposes? I even tried playing with the login mappings but nothing seemed to work.

Need Help Creating A Temporary Table In MS SQL Server.

Oct 18, 2006

Hello,

I am working on a webapp using VB.net

Right now I am writing to a sql table during a process where the end user
starts entering the contents for a file that is going to be generated once he
finishes entering the data, but the problem is that if more than one user is
doing the same process the data would get mixed up.  To avoid this I
thought in creating a temporary table (its name will consist of a string
and the current date time).

 I would like to see any tutorial
about creating and working with temp tables.  Or if you have any
suggestions, I will appreciate them.  Thanks

SQL Server 2008 :: Creating Primary Key On Temporary Table?

Apr 30, 2015

Environment: Microsoft SQL Server Standard Edition (64-bit), 10.0.5520.0

I was doing a code review for another developer and came across this code:

CREATE TABLE dbo.#ABC
(
ReportRunTime DATETIME
,SourceID VARCHAR(3)
,VisitID VARCHAR(30)
,BaseID VARCHAR(25)

[Code] ....

This EXECUTES with no error or warning message.However, if I change this to CREATE the PK in an ALTER TABLE statement, I get the (expected by me) error:

CREATE TABLE dbo.#ABC
(
ReportRunTime DATETIME
,SourceID VARCHAR(3)
,VisitID VARCHAR(30)
,BaseID VARCHAR(25)
,OccurrenceSeqID INT

[code]...

==> Msg 8111, Level 16, State 1, Line 17 Cannot define PRIMARY KEY constraint on nullable column in table '#ABC'.

==> Msg 1750, Level 16, State 0, Line 17 Could not create constraint. See previous errors.

(note: As the #ABC table is an actual copy of a few of the columns in a "permanent" table, I will likely change the definition as follows such that the columns are defined to match the names / datatypes / NULLability:

SELECT TOP 0
CAST('01-01-1980' AS DATETIME) AS [ReportRunTime]
,SourceID
,VisitID
,BaseID
,OccurrenceSeqID

[Code] .....

Transact SQL :: Self Linked Server For Purpose Of Alias?

Oct 2, 2015

basically, we have two databases, one with fix name, eg. DB1 in all environments, and another is named with prefix based on environment, eg. DB2_DEV, DB2_TEST, that is generated by some managed application.

Then we have queries or view/SPs residing in the first database, eg. DB1 that access database resources from the second database, DB2_***. Both databases are residing in the same SQL instance.

Currently, we have hardcoded the database name in the query but would prefer not to manually rename or write other scripts to update the query with the correct database name when deploying to other environments.

For example:

SELECT * FROM DB2_DEV.dbo.vAccounts
When deploy to TEST, we need to update the query to:
SELECT * FROM DB2_TEST.dbo.vAccounts

So, I looked at Synonyms but it seems it can only create 'alias' for tables or views, and not database.

Hence, last thought is to create self linked server, so I can write my query like below and setup the linked server accordingly.

SELECT * FROM SRCDB.dbo.vAccounts

Any consideration to think of, eg. performance, security, etc?

Transact SQL :: Referencing UDFs And Sprocs In Linked Server

Oct 7, 2015

We have migrated a database (myDb2014) to a SQL Server 2014 instance. We have another on a 2008R2 instance (myDb2008). Both on the same server.

I have setup a linked server to the 2014 instance from the 2008R2 one.

I have a number of sprocs on myDb2008 that call TVFs and sprocs on myDb2014. This worked fine when they were both on the same instance.

Now however, I have an issue where I would have to update all the references in each calling query.

I looked into creating Synonyms but this only works for Tables/Views.

Is there a workaround to querying myDb2014 TVFs/sprocs without having to update each calling query in myDb2008?

Append Query From Access Table To Linked SQL Server Table Failing

Jun 18, 2004

Strange one here - I am posting this in both SQL Server and Access forums

Access is telling me it can't append any of the records due to a key violation.

The query:

INSERT INTO dbo_Colors ( NameColorID, Application, Red, Green, Blue )
SELECT Colors_Access.NameColorID, Colors_Access.Application, Colors_Access.Red, Colors_Access.Green, Colors_Access.Blue
FROM Colors_Access;

Colors_Access is linked from another MDB and dbo_Colors is linked from SQL Server 2000.

There are no indexes or foreign contraints on the SQL table. I have no relationships on the dbo_ table in my MDB. The query works if I append to another Access table. The datatypes all match between the two tables though the dbo_ tables has two additional fields not refrenced in the query.

I can manually append the records using cut and paste with no problems.

I have tried re-linking the tables.

Any ideas?
Thanks,
Brad

Table Names In Stored Procedures As String Variables And Temporary Table Question

Apr 10, 2008

How do I use table names stored in variables in stored procedures?

Code Snippetif (select count(*) from @tablename) = 0 or (select count(*) from @tablename) = 1000000

I receive the error 'must declare table variable '@tablename''

I've looked into table variables and they are not what I would require to accomplish what is needed.
After browsing through the forums I believe I need to use dynamic sql particuarly involving sp_executesql. However, I am pretty new at sql and do not really understand how to use this and receive an output parameter from it(msdn kind of confuses me too). I am tryin got receive an integer count of the records from a certain table which can change to anything depending on what the user requires.

Code Snippet

if exists(Select * from sysobjects where name = @temptablename)
drop table @temptablename

It does not like the 'drop table @temptablename' part here. This probably wouldn't be an issue if I could get temporary tables to work, however when I use temporary tables i get invalid object '#temptable'.

Heres what the stored procedure does.
I duplicate a table that is going to be modified by using 'select into temptable'
I add the records required using 'Insert into temptable(Columns) Select(Columns)f rom TableA'
then I truncate the original table that is being modified and insert the temporary table into the original.

Heres the actual SQL query that produces the temporary table error.

Code Snippet
Select * into #temptableabcd from TableA

Insert into #temptableabcd(ColumnA, ColumnB,Field_01, Field_02)
SELECT ColumnA, ColumnB, Sum(ABC_01) as 'Field_01', Sum(ABC_02) as 'Field_02',
FROM TableB
where ColumnB = 003860
Group By ColumnA, ColumnB

TRUNCATE TABLE TableA

Insert into TableA(ColumnA, ColumnB,Field_01, Field_02)
Select ColumnA, ColumnB, Sum(Field_01) as 'Field_01', Sum('Field_02) as 'Field_02',
From #temptableabcd
Group by ColumnA, ColumnB

The above coding produces

Msg 208, Level 16, State 0, Line 1

Invalid object name '#temptableabcd'.

Why does this seem to work when I use an actual table? With an actual table the SQL runs smoothly, however that creates the table names as a variable problem from above. Is there certain limitation with temporary tables in stored procedures? How would I get the temporary table to work in this case if possible?

Thanks for the help.
