Unable To Perform Set Server Defaults In Sharepoint 3.0 Central Administration

Apr 12, 2007

I'm not quite sure where to post this question, so I'll try here. We've been struggling getting SQL2005 reporting services integrated with Share Point Services 3.0 for several days now.

We've installed SQL Reporting Services with SP2 and run the SharePoint Reporting Services add-in. We've been able to go through the SQL Reporting Services Configuration and now were at the last step in the SharePoint Application Management Reporting Services configuration.

The first two steps of Manage Integration Settings and Grant Database Access was sucessful. The final step of "Set Server Defaults" gives us a 404 error message. There is nothing in the Event Log to suggest that there was a problem, and the SQL2005 Server is in SharePoint Integration mode. I've searched but can't find a solution. Can anyone steer me in the right direction please?

SP2 Integration Mode Kills Sharepoint Central Administration

Feb 27, 2007

Hi

I had the following setup:

Farm Server 1
* Sharepoint 2007 full install

Farm Server 2
* SQL Server 2005

I installed the following:
* SP2 for SQL Server 2005 on Server 2
* Web-front end install of Sharepoint 2007 on Server 2 - to install the object model
* SSRS2005 reporting services add-in for Sharepoint technologies on Server 2

Since doing that, I can no longer get to central administration on Server 1 - I now get the following error when navigating to central admin:

Server Error in '/' Application.

Runtime Error Description:
An application error occurred on the server. The current custom error
settings for this application prevent the details of the application error from
being viewed remotely (for security reasons). It could, however, be viewed by
browsers running on the local server machine.

Which web.config do I have to edit to get the full error to show, and has anyone else experienced this?

This happened to me when my servers were fully configured and had data - so I rebuilt them from scratch and the same problem occured again!

SharePoint Set Server Defaults

Feb 22, 2007

Hi guys,

I have a problem when configuring SharePoint and RS on two boxes. (If install everything in one box is fine)

I have SQL SP2 + RS in one server and SharePoint on the other server. I've followed every step in the SQL 2005 Online Book to configure the RS and SharePoint including:

How to: Install the Windows SharePoint Services Object Model on a Report Server Computer. (Done)
How to: Configure Service Accounts (Reporting Services Configuration). (Done)

However, I got an error when click "Set server defaults" in SharePoint Central Admin:
An unexpected error occurred while connecting to the report server. Verify that the report server is available and configured for SharePoint integrated mode.

In ReadMe of SQL SP2, see below: http://download.microsoft.com/download/f/d/c/fdcb3a53-0cb1-4e67-a1b6-45b89b3c59cf/readme_rsaddin.htm#_rsshare_known_problems_7

---
6.4 Service account requirements for Reporting Services

Restrictions on using built-in accounts apply to some deployment topologies of Reporting Services that include a report server running in SharePoint integrated mode. The following combination of factors will result in service account requirements:

The report server is integrated with a SharePoint farm comprising more than one computer.

The report server and SharePoint Central Administration Web site run on separate computers.

In this scenario, if either the Report Server Web service or Windows service runs under a built-in account such as NetworkService, the Grant database access option in SharePoint Central Administration will not work correctly. Consequently, accessing any Reporting Services feature through a SharePoint site will result in the following error:

"An unexpected error occurred while connecting to the report server. Verify that the report server is available and configured for SharePoint integrated mode. --> Server was unable to process request. --> Client found response content type of 'text/html; charset=utf-8', but expected 'text.xml'."

To avoid this error, choose one of the following approaches:

On the computer that hosts the report server, continue to run the Report Server Web service as NetworkService and add the built-in account, such as NT_AUTHORITYNetworkService to the WSS_WPG Windows group.

Configure the service accounts to run under a domain user account as follows:

Start the Reporting Services Configuration tool and connect to the report server.

Click Windows Service Identity, click Windows Account, type a domain user account, and click Apply.

Click Web Service Identity, for Report Server, click New, type an application pool name, click Windows Account, type a domain user account, and click Apply.

Reset IIS.

Restart the Windows service.

---

I did try it out but still get the error when clicking "Set server defaults" link in SharePoint Central Admin.

Is there something wrong with the two boxes installation???

Hope the MS guys can help.

Paul

Web Jobs Fail With Unable To Perform A SETUSER

Dec 30, 2003

Running MSSQL 2000 on Windows2000 in an NT domain. We have several jobs created by the web assistant wizard. They run along just fine for days or weeks, then all of a sudden SOME of them (?!) begin to fail with the message "Unable to perform a SETUSER to the requested username 'dbo' because the username is invalid for database 'xxx'" where xxx is of course the db where the proc resides. SQLAgent service is running as a domain admin and has not changed; job is owned by sa and has not changed; the domain admin in question is in sa role and has not changed. Something sure has changed, but what? Sometimes when this happens we can clear it up by deleting the web job and simply re-creating it. Today we have three culprits and none of our usual tricks are working. Why does this happen? How can we fix it? How can we PREVENT it! Thanks for any words of wisdom out there.

Data Import Excel XML Defaults Which File Governs Excel Defaults?

Jul 21, 2015

I'm importing a multi tab spreadsheet using Import wizard, which I understand to use the same internals as SSIS. The total number of columns in the spread sheet will be over 500. The import wizard defaults everything to varchar 255. I understand there is an XML file I can manipulate to change this and they are located

C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server100DTSMappingFiles

Assuming one of these will control Excel defaults, which one is it? None of the names lend themselves to the Excel as a source. SqlClientToMSSql10?

Unable To Deploy Reports From VStudio When Working In SharePoint Integration Mode

Mar 4, 2007

Hello, I have a configuration where my SharePoint services are running on a web machine and the SQL server reporting services are running on a different machine.
I installed SQL SP2 and the SQL Server Reporting Services Add-in for SharePoint by following all the instructions listed in €śConfiguring Reporting Services for SharePoint 3.0 Integration€? (http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb326356.aspx).
My issue is that when I Deploy a report from a VS Report Server project by running Visual Studio on the machine where reporting servicers is running, everything works fine.
But if I try the same thing on any other machine on the network, I get a €śThe file you are attempting to save or retrieve has been blocked from this Web site by the server administrators.€? message.

I€™m sure I€™m missing something on the configuration but I can€™t tell what.

Thanks a lot

Reporting Services :: Unable To Run Scheduled Reports From SharePoint In Manage Shared Schedules

Jul 16, 2015

We are running into an issue where we are unable to run scheduled reports from SharePoint in the "Manage Shared Schedules" sections of any given site in our site collection (<site url>/_layouts/15/ReportServer/ScheduleList.aspx). Reports are able to be generated manually, but never run when scheduled from SharePoint. We are encountering the following error in the SharePoint logs for our server.

Microsoft.ReportingServices.Library.InvalidReportServerDatabaseException: , Microsoft.ReportingServices.Library.InvalidReportServerDatabaseException:

The version of the report server database is either in a format that is not valid, or it cannot be read. The found version is 'Unknown'. The expected version is '162'.; Here is the background in our environment:

SharePoint App Server - Server 2012 R2 running SharePoint 2013 Application server - running SSRS SharePoint Integrated configured through Central Admin.SharePoint SQL Server - Server 2012 R2 running SQL 2012 SP1 for the SharePoint farm - hosts the Reporting Services databases.I have run the script within the Central Admin > Provision Subscriptions and Alerts to give appropriate permissions the the account in use. Also the reporting services databases were created new as part of the install, so they were not migrated from a previous version.

SSIS Central Server?

Sep 20, 2007

We have about 150 SQL servers and basically we're considering the pros and cons of installing SSIS on a central SSIS server - that is responsible for all DTS jobs - as opposed to installing SSIS on the local SQL instance.

On the plus side so far:

1./ Central administration, alerting, change management etc

2./ Possible performance gain on the local instance not having SSIS installed?

On the negative side:

1./ Central point of failure

2./ Possibility that it would need to be a clustered...

3./ Compatibility issues may mean having to make the central SSIS server 32-bit?

4./ Possible performance cost of remote SSIS?

5./ With multiple DTS packages running at different times, when would we take the server down for maintenace...?

Would appreciate your thoughts.

Central Store Of SQL Server Registration

Nov 7, 2000

I am attempting to centrally register all of my sql server so I can go to any workstation and open enterprise manager and select to read the sql server registration from the remote server.

I followed all of the steps in books on line about going to the central server, turning off the store/user independent option, registering all of the servers and then going to a workstation and selecting the option to read from the central server.

I get error messages like registry read error: 5 and registry read error: 2

This is getting frustrating because we have a lot of servers in our environment and re-registering them everytime is getting to be quite a pain. If the central store will not work, is there a way to write a script to register all servers in an enterprise.

Thanks,

PJ

Reporting Services Addin - Set Server Defaults Error

Sep 18, 2007

Hey All,

I installed Reporting Services Add-in with no problems on a Virtual server that already hosts MOSS 2007 and configured everything that was stated in documentation. The Report server Url works fine..like http://myserver1:802/ReportServer and I can see the contents when I type this url.

However, when I go to Central Administration and click on "Set Server Defaults"...I am getting a "401.1 Unauthorized..." error.I setup the Manage Integration to TrustedAccount and the Grant DatabaseAccess to the account that is the Server.Farm and local administrator.

In the Reporting Services Configuration, I used SSRSWebAccount for WebService and SSRSWindowsAccount for WindowsService and the RSAppPool which is the ApplicationPool for ReportingServices Web Site uses the SSRSWindowsAccount only.

Anybody..please help.

Thanks,

Can You Do SQL Server Administration From An ASP.NET App?

Is it possible to write an ASP.NET app that can do certain SQL Server 2000 administration tasks, specifically add sql server users, and change sql server user passwords? Would it just be a matter of running the appropriate system stored procedures (sp_password, etc.), or does .NET provide any hooks into SQL Server for something like this? Thanks!

SQL Server Administration And Config

Mar 2, 2004

I'm new in the DBA position recently aquired, and I'm having a few issues with MSSQL configuration and administration.

1. I have created a two maintenance plans, one for system databases and another one for user databases, this plans include things such as, Integrity Checks, Optimizations and DB Backups, however the Integrity Checks fail with the error that the DB's must be in single user mode, how can I go about to make this and what are the implications of doing so?

2. There's been a few reports of MSSQL server compromises through UDP port 1433, so I closed it at firewall level, only TCP 1433 is going through, do I really need UDP 1433?

Thank you very much.

SQL Server 7 Remote Administration II

Oct 30, 1999

Sorry for starting a new thread on this subject but my situation is a bit different.

I want to connect to a remote SQL-server in a DIFFERENT domain, using Enterprise Manager. Whatever I try, I allways get an "SQLserver not found"-error.

The ASP's on the server that make use of the SQL server are functioning without any problems, so I guess the SQL-server itself is OK.

I tried:
servername = URL remote server
setting up a linked server
setting up a remote server

I'm a webdesigner and a newbe to SQLserver7. Please keep in mind I could be overseeing something that very obvious for you.

So what could be the problem. Any tips? Thanks!

Reporting Services :: Available Parameter Values And Setting Defaults On Report Server

Jun 3, 2015

I have a report with a subscription enabled and the default values that are selected for the report frequently change. I have our report server locked down so that the users can't change the defaults, but I now want to empower them to maintain this on their own. Here is my dilemma. When you have the available parameters set up to pull from a query, the defaults on the report server have to be keyed in manually, which is not an option. The only way to get a check box there, is to explicitly specify the available values.I need my available values to be database driven and I need to be able to select my defaults on the report server using check boxes.

Sql Server Database Administration Web Application

Sep 10, 2006

Hi All, I will shortly (hopefully) begin devleoping an ASP.Net web application to let users manage a remote sql server 2005 database (kind of like the php myAdmin tool for MySQL databases). Were not talking a server managament tool for DBAs, more an end user tool for managing personal databases (it seems that web hosting companies provide tools for MySQL, but if you use SQL Server, you're stuck unless you have management tools on your PC - and what about mac users?).Given that premise, what features should i attempt to include? Creating and modifying tables structures and data is an obvious inclusion, but what else? I also haven't yet decided whether to go about this using scripts or using SMO. I've read that SMO is backwards compatible across versions of SQL Server...how true is this? are there issues or is it seamless? Please post any comments or thoughts you have, and thanks for taking the time.

SQL Server Express && Web Administration Tool

Nov 28, 2007

I am new to VWD, and web development. I installed VWD and SQL Server Express local.

I'm learning how to use the VWD with some of the walkthrough samples. It was going great until I got to the walkthrough where it show "how to use configure user and role with Web Site Admin Tool". I followed the walkthrough steps by step. I clicked the Security Tab and I got the following error:

"There is a problem with your selected data store. This can be caused by an invalid server name or credentials, or by insufficient permission. It can also be caused by the role manager feature not being enabled. Click the button below to be redirected to a page where you can choose a new data store. The following message may help in diagnosing the problem: Unable to connect to SQL Server database. "

I read some article. According to the articles, SQL Server Express will automatically create the asp database for the first time. but my SSE did not create the database.

What did you do wrong? Please help. Thank you

System.Web.Services.Protocols.SoapException: The specified path refers to a SharePoint zone that is not supported. The default zone path must be used. ---> Microsoft.ReportingServices.Diagnostics.Utilities.SecurityZoneNotSupportedException: The specified path refers to a SharePoint zone that is not supported. Is this a limitation of the SQLRS-WSS3 integration or is there a workaround?

Many thanks to anyone who can help!
