The problem that I am having is that with Visual Web Developer I am creating a webpage and having it directly put online, so for example when I start a new ASP.NET page, I select the location to be HTTP, with the location http://MYWEBSERVER/Website and for the language and Visual BasicI notice a couple of things, first that there is no longer a a link under the Main toolbar "Website" selection called the ASP.NET configuration. So how can I configure what I want to have users be able to do? It seems that this choice is only available if I am building the ASP.NET page on my "localhost". So that is the first problem. So I am able to get the pages to work, atleast the things such as the textboxes to show up etc, (Even things as advanced as the "Login" box). How ever when I try to get someone to try to login I am taken to a page that has an server error. The error is: "The SSE Provider did not find the database file specified in the connection string. At the configured trust level (below High trust level), the SSE provider can not automatically create the database file. " The Stack Trace Errors are at the bottom. I think this is happening because the automatically generated databases are not getting built online as they are on my computer. On my computer I have MSSQL express. So either the databases are not getting built for some reason, (and I think that is the case as I don't see any in the folder). So I think that somehow I have to create a database on my server, and then somehow configure the ASP.NET file, perhaps in the Web.Config file to look for that new database. Is this the correct methodology? Is there some simpler way that I can just somehow upload things as they are and have them work correctly on my server? The error says that either the Server did not find the database or that the trust level was insufficient. I don't think that is it as I just looked again and I don't see any .MDF files. So how would I go about getting this to work right? Is there a way to do this with MySQL also? So that I don't have to use MSSQL? My server only allows 1 DataBase for that. I added a connection (ADO.NET) object by name testCon in the connection manager - I wanted to programmatically supply the connection string. So I used the "Expressions" property of the connection object and set the connectionstring to one DTS variable. The idea is to supply the connection string value to the variable - so that the connection object uses my connection string.
Then I added a "Backup Database Task" to my package with the name BkpTask. Now whenever I try to set the connection property of BkpTask to the testCon connection object, by typing testCon, it automatically gets cleared. I am not able to set the connection value.
Then after spending several hours I found that this is because I have customized the connection string in testCon. If I don't customize the connection string, I am able to enter the "testCon" value in the connection property of the BkpTask.
I'd like to find a specific text string searching in all tables within same database. Is there a way to make only one query to all tables at the same time?

Currently we have a 1.1 app that sets the connection string as a Application variable, we are wanting to change that and place it in the web config file, when I do this in 2.0 it's a simple process but in 1.1 it's different. It doesnt seem to like the <connection string> tag, does it go in the appsettings tag and if so what should it look like and how is it referenced.
I've recently uploaded my website, http://www.bigredsongbus.com, to my host. Unfortunately, they don't support the use of SQL Server Express. So, I've purchased an addon through my host - discountasp.net. I've attached my database file to their server, now all that I need to do is to change the connection string in my .config file so that it points to the SQL Server. I don't know how to do this. connection string would be where attribute default of source should be true.
Ok, lets see if I can put what I am looking for into words. I run a MSSQL server, I show in my logs that a connection is being made to my server from a remote ip. I have contact the owner of the ip in question and they state that they have no buisness with us and they should not be connected to us. According to netstat the connection to us is established on 2 different remote ports to 1433. My question, is there any logging on sql that I can turn on, look at to see what database this connection is accessing? Thanks
I have a simple package, which reads a flat file source, does some transformation, and outputs to a flat file destination. The package runs as a SQL Agent job, so I have the flat file source and OLEDB connection ticked and configured on the data sources tab.
What I would like to do is get hold of the flat file source connection string property from inside the package at run time, and use it to set the flat file destination connection string using property expressions.
The easy option is to set the destination in the agent job, but I'd like to add a date/time stamp to the destination filename.
Hi, I tried to follow the widely talked about method to dynamically populate the connection string property of my flatfileconnection manager from a variable. I keep getting the following non-fatal error.

Here is what I am trying to do. I have a foreach loop that iterates through a list of xml config files and reads the config information including the destination csv file name and does a data transformation. So I created a flatfile connection to a csv file did my data mappings. Created a package level variable to hold the destination file path In the Flat file conn. manager's properties -> expression -> set the @[User::CsvFullFileName] (which even evaluates fine)
When I try to run the package I keep getting the above mentioned non-fatal error..I checked the path and it is valid. I even tried
the c:\projects\...notation and the UNC path notation...all seem to give the same error
Anyone experience this before ? any thoughts would be appreciated.
Another question regarding the frustrating SSIS stuff. Basically when I used to use a DTS task to import a flat file (comma delimited) into the database it worked fine no problems, however, for some reason the same approach in SSIS means that any string values in the file are automatically delimited with double quotes, even though I am specifying <none> as the delimitation. I have also changed the fields so that the the TextQualified is set to false.
This causes a problem because all of the information stored in the database (done by a stored procedure) contains these stupid quotes.
Is there something I am missing or haven't done correctly to get rid of the quotes
I have packages that must generate log errors dynamically including time of execution and the name of the task.
I make it changing the properties of the connection inserting two expressions.
1.-I alter the File Usage Type to 1 to generate this files. 2.- I alter the connection string as: @[User::myvariable] +"constant_description"+ time description+ +".txt"

In those packages I have one connector for all the tasks and in execution time it creates one file for each of the tasks.
The problem is the way I insert in the filename the task name.
I have a pre-execute event handler in each task that modifies a string variable( myvariable) appending the task name. When I execute de package it works great but when I only execute a task, the program do not enter in the event and do not put the task’s name.
How can I put that name without using that handler? There is another handler can I use to do it that happens before the system generates the new file name and after pre-execute? Anyone knows another way to do this kind of things?
I apologize in advance for posting yet another connection failure issue. I went through quite a few posts and could not find the actual answer so here is the issue. I have a main SSIS package to call five other packages. This seems to work fine in my BIDS workstation; however, when I copied it, including the bat file that was created by dtexecui utility, to the production environment (which runs on 64 bit - probably has nothing to do with the 64 bit platform), the main package executes fine but the child packages failed with this error: Description: An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x80004005. An OLE DB record is available. Source: "Microsoft SQL Native Client" Hresult: 0x80004005 Description: "Login timeout expired". An OLE DB record is available. Source: "Microsoft SQL Native Client" Hresult: 0x80004005 Description: "An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote conne ctions.".
It seems that the child packages are still using the old connection strings from my workstation. My question is how can I pass the connection string from the batch file to all the child packages that the parent (main) package is using.
Im working on a db library and I have everything working, what Im wanting to do is though is add a method that can check a connection string to make sure it is actually working. Right now, I have it doing a simple select * query to a particular table and returning true or false if an exception is caused. But I want to make the library as generic as possible, so is there another way to test teh connection string and tell if its working or not?Thanks,Cedric

I am working on a Hospital Information System project with a team of 6.Each one of us builds or modifies a part of the system and shares the project over a common repository. The problem here is that we use the absolute path of the database in our connection string. Although the directory structure of our project is the same for each member, since the main project folder itself is stored in different locations on each person's computer (for example, one may have it stored in c:My Documents and the other in d: My Documents), we are forced to modify the connection string manually each time someone else from the team updates the repository with the database. How do we make the path of the database relative so that we don't have to modify the connection string manually each time after receiving an update from the repository?

I built an app, works fine. Had the development environment working fine (VS2005 (SP0) and SQL Server Express). It had been stable for months, no problem.
Then I had to reinstall XP Pro...(finally threw too many conflicting programs into it, I guess...)
I managed to get VS2005 reinstalled ok. However, when I opened and compiled my existing app in VS2005, using Cassini, I got the dreaded error:
An attempt to attach an auto-named database for file <file string> failed. A database with the same name exists, or specified file cannot be opened, or it is located on UNC share.
I also get this error for the compiled copy of the app on the same machine, running on IIS. (Where it also previously worked fine).
I appreciate that there are zillions of posts on this issue. I'm hoping that someone might know why this should happen in this particular case.
The thing that's different about this case is that the app was working fine; I have the app deployed on a demo machine and also on a remote server as well as on the development machine.
The only thing that changed is that there was this fresh install of SQL Server Express.
I tried using >> sp_configure user instances enabled','1';RECONFIGURE <<< in SSMSEE, which took, but didn't help.
So something is different in SSE. Since the app is stable everywhere else, I REALLY don't want to go through and adjust the connection strings...MUCH better to figure out what SSE needs to be happy with the existing connection strings...as it was before.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

EDIT----TRIED SOME THINGS:
Changed folder and file permissions to allow ASPNET full access to the .mdf's and log files (though never had to do this before on the development machine.) No change...
Can see the table contents within the .mdf through SSMSE, and also through Server Explorer in VS2005.
So because the problem happens with both IIS and Cassini, I'm assuming it's got to be an issue between ASPNET and SSE.
EDIT --- TRIED SOME MORE THINGS:
I dimly remember that when I had this problem before, it was that the error message was too "dumb". It wasn't my file that had the permissions problems, it was that the SSE System Databases had to have permissions with respect to ASPNET.
I tried to set that up but I'm a complete newb on this area, so I don't know if I did it right. In SSMSE I created a Login for MyComputer/ASPNET, and gave it all permissions and roles, and then made it an owner for the four system databases...but no joy.
Any pointers on this last piece would be helpful.

I'm used to DTS but new to SSIS. What's a good reference/tutorial that deals with transforming columns of data (from a flat file) from one format to another when uploading into SQL2005? Typically columns of data have "" around the values and spaces that I want to remove.
Presumably in SSIS I need the following:
A Data flow task containing:
Flat file source Derived or Copy Column? OLE DB Destination

I am running Windows XP Pro SP2. I have installed the SQL Native Client for XP. However, when I try to add a new data source through ODBC Connection Manager, SQL Native Client is not listed as an option. I have followed this procedure on three other systems with no problems. What would be causing the SQL Native Client to not show up in the list of available ODBC data sources?
after i attached the file in package configurations .
i was unable to see the db connection in connection managers.
i tried to attach the .dtsconfig file in (New OLEDB connection manager) but after clicking the test connection " Testconnection failed because of an error in intializing provider.The connectionString property is not intialized"
Greetings, I have just arrived back into the country (NZ) and back into ASP.NET. I am having trouble with the following:An attempt to attach an auto-named database for file (file location).../Database.mdf failed. A database with the same name exists, or specified file cannot be opened, or it is located on UNC share. It has only begun since i decided i wanted to use IIS, I realise VWD comes with its own localhost, but since it is only temporary, i wanted a permanent shortcut on my desktop to link to my intranet page. Anyone have any ideas why i am getting the above error? have searched many places on the internet and not getting any closer. Cheers ~ J
Database Connection - Don't have permission to open file
I'm trying to establish a connection to a database file (c: empMine.mdf) through visual studio c# express 2005 edition. I'm using the database explorer/add connection wizard. On the add connection dialog window when i browse and select the db file to connect to i'm getting the message "You don't have permission to open this file. Contact the file owner or an administrator to obtain permission"
I have SQL Server Express 2005 and SQL Server Management Studio Express installed. Within the management studio at the server security level i'm mapped to the db file (Mine.mdf) and have db_owner and public ticked and have also set the default database as Mine At the database security level under usersproperties i have also ticked db_owner. Also when i select properties for the db file itself it's telling me that i'm the owner.
I'm also using vista home premium edition and using windows authentication instead of sql server authentication.
I'm fairly new to all this so there may be something glaringly obvious i've missed!

I have a configuration database that holds connection details to a remote database. I want to use these connection details to dynamically create a new connection to some remote database.
I usually work in with C# where this would be simple but I can't find how to do this using SSIS.
I have found people using configuration files but as I already have my connection data in a table I don't really want to strip it out. (Also, is it a security risk to have database connection strings stored in a config file?)
I have been able to implement a custom script object to build the connection string and assign it to a user variable within the package but can't find any way to then use that variable to connect to the remote database.

I am using sqljdbc41.jar to connect with MSSQL database, it is working fine on my local machine.Where as on the remote server, same class giving me error

I am using sqljdbc41.jar and on 64 bit processor , I am using following command which included path for sqljdbc_auth.dll java -Djava.library.path= C: sqljdbc_4.1enuauthx64 TestDao and error is Login failed for user '<domain><windows loginID>' why it is not picking up username passed in connection string. I have 2 machines, one is local and other is remote. on both machine I login using my domain, it is working absolutely fine on local then why the error is coming on remote machine.Both the machines are identical.
