Excel 2007 DataMining Add-in Database On SQL Server 2005 Destroyed By Using SQL Server Managment Studio?

Apr 26, 2007

Hello,

i have made some Data Mining Model Examples in Excel 2007 (not temporarily!). They where there after leaving an re-opening Excel. I have used them several times. Then I want to look, if I can see them also via SQL Server Managment Studio in the Analysis Services. There where nothing in the DMAddInDB in Analysis Services.

And after this, in Excel my DataMining Models have disappeared and all Models i have made since this disappeared also.

Perhaps I have destroyed the database. But will this happen every time? Can I share Data Mining Models I have made with Excel with Projects in SQL Server Analysis Services?

Thanks

Berenice

Vista, Varbinary(max) And SQL Server Managment Studio

Aug 13, 2007

I'm running into an issue that only occurs on Vista machines against a SQL Server 2005. We have a table with a varbinary(MAX) column in which we store a csv/xls/xml file. When I perform a 'select * from my_table' within Management Studio the column data returned is sporadic...some rows are filled out and some are not. When performed on an XP machine all of the data is returned (every row's column is filled out). Is this a known issue? I tried searching for it but didn't find anything.

Thanks,
Nellie

SQL Server Managment Studio Repeated Logins

Jan 11, 2008

Presumably an easy question but every time I open a query file the SSMS requires me to login. Very frustrating. Cannot find a configuration option, properties attribute or other to turn this off. Can anyone adivse how I can set up SMSS to require a login at the beginning of the session and then not again for each saved query I open?

Thanks.

SQL Server 2005 Managment Studio Newbie: Can't See Stored Procedure

Oct 3, 2006

I just created a stored procedure in SQL Server 2005 management studio.  I went to my db and expanded the programmability folder then right clicked the stored procedures folder and created a stored procedure.  I saved the procedure as sp_getDistance in the default folder SQL managment studio picked.  Now when I went back to that stored procedure folder I did not see my stored procedure sp_getDistance, all that was there was the system stored procedure folder.  Did I save the stored procedure in the wrong place, or what did I do wrong.  I can't find the procedure anywhere, its just sitting in my My DocumentsSQL Server Management StudioProjectssp_getDistance.sql folder. Thanks,Kyle Spitzer

Testing A Stored Procedure With Output Params In SQL Server Managment Studio

Sep 25, 2007

I have an SP like this (edited for brevity):

set ANSI_NULLS ON
set QUOTED_IDENTIFIER ON
GO

ALTER PROCEDURE [dbo].[TESTING_SP]
@Username MediumText,
@Password MediumText,
@UserKey int OUTPUT,
@RoleKey int OUTPUT,
@UserGroupKey int OUTPUT,

AS

BEGIN

SELECT
@UserKey = UserKey
FROM UserProfile
WHERE Username = @UserName
AND [Password] = @Password
END

I want to execute this sp in Managment Studio (MS) and see what is being returned but I'm getting this error:

Msg 201, Level 16, State 4, Procedure TESTING_SP, Line 0
Procedure 'TESTING_SP' expects parameter '@UserKey', which was not supplied.

How do I set up the output parameters and then select the values in MS for testing purposes?

Thanks a ton for helping a noob.

SQL Server Managment Studio Express 2005 Import/Export Wizard

Nov 29, 2006

I've created a new database and restored the database from a backup. I'm wanting to import raw data from an excel spreadsheet into the tables of the new database.

When I right click on the database, and hover over tasks the import/ export data menu options are not in the menu.The menu items ends at 'Generate Scripts'.

I'm connected on a local instance to a registered server.

Can anyone advise?

Managment Studio

Feb 28, 2006

Hi

I received the trial 2005 Enterprise edition software to give 2005 a shot. Everything installed fine but no Managment Studio to interface with it. All the documentation I read (like this http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms174173.aspx ) just expects the software to be there.

I can't find it as a download. Does anyone know what the deal is?

Thanks

How To Setup Linked Servers With SQL Managment Studio

Dec 29, 2007

Hi Everyone,
I am using SQL Server 2005 with SQL Management Studio.
What I am trying to do is move tables and stored procedures from one database on one server to another database which is on a different server. Essentially, I am trying to move tables and stored procedures from a database on my local computer to a database on our staging server I was told the best way to do this would be to use a linked server. I have been trying to set one up using managment studio but right clicking on server-object and choosing 'new ---> Linked Server' but I have not been able to successfully create the connection.
Can anyone out there explain me to me how to setup the linked server using SQL 2005 Management Studio?
Thanks!

Modifying Triggers In Managment Studio Express

Oct 16, 2006

I have a database with an update trigger, which shows up under the Triggers object in the database tree. When I modify the item and try to save it it prompts me for a disk location to save the query. I then reopen the item on the db tree, and it shows the old code. What am I doing wrong?

Telnet Connection Works, Sql Cmd Connection Works, SQL Server Managment Studio 2005 Does Not

Jun 20, 2007

I'm having a strange problem with this but I know (and admit) that the problem is on my PC and nowhere else. My firewall was causing a problem because I was unable to PING the database server, switching this off gets a successful PING immediately. The most useful utility to date is running netstat -an in the command window. This illustrates all the connections that are live and ports that are being listed to. I can establish a connection both by running

telnet sql5.hostinguk.net 1433 and

sqlcmd -S sql5.hostinguk.net -U username -P password

See below:

Both these utilities show as establishing a connection in netstat so I am able to connect the database server every time, this worked throughout yesterday and has continued this morning.

The problem is when I attempt to use SQL Server Management Studio. When I attempt to connect to tcp:sql5.hostinguk.net, 1433 nothing shows in netstat at all. There is an option to encrypt the connection in the connection properties tab in management studio, when I enable this I do get an entry in netstat -an, see below:

TCP 81.105.102.47:1138 217.194.210.169:1433 TIME_WAIT

TCP 81.105.102.47:1139 217.194.210.169:1433 TIME_WAIT

TCP 81.105.102.47:1140 217.194.210.169:1433 TIME_WAIT

Amost as if it's trying the different ports but you get this time_wait thing. The error message is more meaningful and hopefull because I get:

A connection was successfully established with the server, but then an error occurred during the pre-login handshake. (provider: SSL Provider, error: 0 - The certificate chain was issued by an authority that is not trusted.) (.Net SqlClient Data Provider)

I would expect this as the DNS has not been advised to encrypt the conection.

This is much better than the : Login failed for user 'COX10289'. (.Net SqlClient Data Provider) that I get, irrespective of whether I enter a password or not.

This is on a XP machine trying to connect to the remote webhosting company via the internet.

I can ping the server

I have enabled shared memory and tcp/ip in protocols, named pipes and via are disabled

I do not have any aliases set up

No I do not force encryption

I wonder if you have any further suggestions to this problem?

SQL Server Management Studio - Connecting To Serve

Sep 20, 2007

I am trying to connect to a sql server 2005 server using either the SQL Server Management Studio program using either windows auth or sql server auth but I can not. When I click on the connect button to connect to a server it never connects. I can not cancel once I press connect. It never times out after I press connect. I removed all registered servers that were registered previously. I have uninstalled all software that involved sql server (and sql2000) run a registry cleaner(not microsofts), installed the software to a new directory and still I can not connect to the sql2005 server (the only db).

I tested the connection from my machine to the production database system using osql and it worked fine. I registered the server tested the connection (using the management studio) and it tested fine. When I try to connect to the database engine it does not work.

When I had another user login to my machine and launch the SQL Server Management Studio I noticied that it ran a configuration utility for first use. When I uninstalled the SQL Server Management Studio on my machine it never came up again. Is there any way that I can get the configuration utility to run again on my account?

Any ideas? Things to test?

Problems Connecting To Server Using Management Studio

Aug 20, 2007

Hi all,
I got this problem which makes me struggle in the last few days.
I am able to connect to my local server using a query analyzer or calling sql commands in a window application, but there's no way I can access it in Management Studio: by clicking "Connect" it just waits forever, and it doesn't respond to any other command (it must be shut by terminating the process)
Got any hints?

Thanks

CONNECTING TO ACCESS DATA Via SQL Server Managemnt Studio

Oct 12, 2006

HI All, forgive me but I am new to SQL Server.

My question is in 2 parts. THe first - Could anyone point me to a tutorial or give me a quick pointer? I want to View my Access 2003 datatables through Server MAngement Studio. I cannot however work this out or find articles on it. Is it possible? Are there any wlakthroughs?

The second Part - Eventually I want to create an SQL database, which is comprised of tables which use (point to) MS ACCESS as there datasource. An unchangeable existing piece of software uses Access as the UI, so I want to leave my data in access, and just set up some pointers from the SQL database tables to read in data from these access tables as when required.

Is that a clear question? Am I making any sense?? PLease let me know as I am scratching my head a lot at the moment!!

Cheers guys,

Anthony

I am trying to connect to a remote sql server 2005. So I have install the Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express. When I try to connect I get the error below.

An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server) (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 53). Can some one please help. I have even port no 1533 on my pc. Thanks.

Issues Connecting To SQL Server 2005 From SQL Server Mgmt Studio - Please Help!!!

Feb 28, 2007

Hi Everyone,

I am running into a problem and have been browsing the web and reading nonstop for answers with no success. My company just installed SQL Server 2005 and I am trying to connect to it via SQL Server Management Studio from my network computer in the same office building.

When I browse for Local or Network Servers in the initial popup box at SQL Management Studio Startup, it doesn't show any servers at all. Is there something I need to enable on the Server using the Configuration Manager or one of the other tools to allow my network computer to "see" the SQL Server?

Any insight would be MUCH appreciated. Even a link to a how-to would suffice. Thank you.
