Hi,

I want to pull sample records lets say 1000 rows only from oracle database to sql server. Is there any option in ssis to limit the number of rows?

SSIS Not Pulling Data Correctly

Feb 26, 2008

Ok I wrote a SSIS package that will pull down data from my AS/400 and populate a SQL Server table with the data.

1)The data is being pulled from my China configured AS/400. It is configured to handle DBCS
2)The SQL Server tables are configured to handle DBCS by using the nvarchar datatype.
3)When I run this package on my machine against the production server, it works perfectly.
4)When I run this package on my test SQL Server against the production server,it works perfectly.
5)When I run this package on my production SQL Server it brings down all the records, but does not bring down all the fields. Most of the character fields are left blank.(not all)

I do not understand why this is doing this. Can anyone shed any light on this problem? Thank you.

Built In Limit Or Setting That Limits The Number Of Rows From An OLE DB Source Table In A Data Flow Task?

Feb 16, 2007

I have a table that I'm loading as part of a control flow that in turn is copied to a target table by using a data flow task. I am doing this because a different set of fields may be used from the source entry to create the target entry based on a field in the source table. That same field may indicate that multiple entries need to be created in the target table from one source table entry for which I use a multi-cast transformation.

The problem I'm having is that no matter how many entries there are in the source table, the OLE DB Source during execution only shows 7,532 entries being taken from the source table. If there are less than 7,532 entries in the source table, everything processes fine. More than 7,532 and the data flow task only takes 7,532 and then seems to hang. It also seems as though only one path of the multi-cast transformation is taken when the conditional split directs a source entry down that path.

Seems like a strange problem I know, but any insight anyone could provide is appreciated. Thanks.

Limit On SSIS String Variable Size, Trying To Get Big Xml File Into Xml Data Field

I have a SSIS package that opens an xml file, puts the contents into a string, then runs a stored procedure that dumps it into an xml column in a table. One of the xml files is huge. Putting the data into a ssis string causes an error. The length of the string variable is 58,231,886. The file will only get bigger.

How else can I get this data into a SQL Server XML field.

Using SSIS 2005 To Strip Out Bad Rows In Excel And Then Insert Detailed Rows Into OLE DB Data Source

Apr 6, 2006

Environment:

Running this code on my PC via VS 2005
.Net version 2.0.50727 on the server (shown in IIS)
Code is in ASP.NET 2.0 and is a VB.NET Console application
SSIS 2005

Problem & Info:

I am bringing in an Excel file.  I need to first strip out any non-detail rows such as the breaks you see with totals and what not.  I should in the end have only detail rows left before I start moving them into my SQL Table.  I'm not sure how to first strip this information out in SSIS specfically how down to the right component and how to actually code the component to do this based on my Excel file here: http://www.webfound.net/excelfile.xls

Then, I assume I just use a Flat File Source coponent or something to actually take the columns in the Excel and split into an OLE DB Datasource to shove each column into a corresponding column in my SQL Server Table.  I have used a Flat File Source in the past to do so with a comma delimited txt file but never tried with an Excel.

Desired Help:

How to perform

1)       stripping out all undesired rows
2)       importing each column into sql table

Help With SQL Statement, Pulling Back Duplicate Rows On DISTINCT Keyword

insert into BlogAssociations values (3,'',1);
insert into BlogAssociations values (12,'',1);

There is my above sql script, i'm currently using mysql at home to test things but will convert to work in mssql.
I need to get associated BlogID for Certain ChannelID from the BlogAssociations table.
Then using those BlogID's that it finds for let just say ChannelID "1" list off the 3 most recent EpisodeID's from the Episodes Table per each BlogID.
So if ChannelID "1" has four BlogID's associated with it then in the Episodes table list off the recent 3 EpisodeIDs for BlogID "3", then the 3 most recent EpisodeIDs for BlogID "5" and so on and so on.

I have this which kind of does what I want:

Code:

select
e.BlogID, e.EpisodeID, e.other
FROM
episodes e, BlogAssociations ba
WHERE
e.BlogID = ba.BlogID and ba.ChannelID = '1'
ORDER BY
e.EpisodeID DESC;

It returns:

Code:

+--------+-----------+---------------------+
| BlogID | EpisodeID | other |
+--------+-----------+---------------------+
| 12 | 17 | Episode 17, blog 12 |
| 12 | 16 | Episode 16, blog 12 |
| 12 | 15 | Episode 15, blog 12 |
| 12 | 14 | Episode 14, blog 12 |
| 12 | 13 | Episode 13, blog 12 |
| 3 | 4 | Episode 4, blog 3 |
| 3 | 3 | Episode 3, blog 3 |
| 3 | 2 | Episode 2, blog 3 |
| 3 | 1 | Episode 1, blog 3 |
+--------+-----------+---------------------+

But as you can see it lists off 5 of the Episodes for BlogID "12", I only want the most recent 3 as previously stated. It also lists off more than 3 Episodes for BlogID "3". How in the world do I go about doing this?
I'm making this a stored procedure so I can't use php otherwise I wouldn't even be posting

Thanks so much!

Loading Data From Oracle To SQL Server Using SSIS

Ok, we have built a data mart using SSIS etc...for transformations and loading.

Our biggest single problem we have currently is loading data from an Oracle server to our SQL server. Some tables from oracle run fine when retrieving the data but there is one particular table that just doesn't load fast enough (9 million records take over 12 hours). It seems that we are idling alot and its not always running.

Can anyone help with this problem?

Transaction Not Working When Inserting Data Into Oracle Db Using SSIS.

Jan 11, 2007

Hi Guys,

I have a package that inserts data from a sql server table to an oracle table. I use a dataflow task to do the loading.

The weird thing is, if the package fails during execution, the transaction does not perform a rollback and the inserted data is committed.

The dataflow component has its TransactionOption set to Supported (this has always been the case for our sql to sql packages). However, now that I have a sql to oracle package, it won't work anymore.. also, setting the TransactionOption of the dataflow component to Required causes the whole package to fail.

Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Thanks,
Kervy

DTS Migration To SSIS - Oracle Unsupport Data Type

Mar 18, 2008

OK I migrated a DTS package from MS SQL 2000 to MS SQL 2005 64-bit SSIS. OK so I fixed a problem with a Double Global Variable... Now I am stuck at a connection to Oracle and it returning data... Here is the error message:

[Execute SQL Task] Error: An error occurred while assigning a value to variable "Remedy_Count": "Unsupported data type on result set binding 0.".

My SQL Statement is this:

SELECT COUNT(*) AS Expr1
FROM DB.MYTABLE

When I run it from the Query Builder it returned this:

EXPR1 = 2983

Here are some details from the General Page on the Execute SQL Task

ResultSet - Single row
ConnectionType - OLE DB
Connection - Oracle Provider for OLE DB
SQLSourceType - Direct input
BypassPrepare - True

In the Result Set I have The following:

Result Name - Variable Name
0 - Remedy_Count

So... what can I do to fix this. I have the Remedy_Count set as a:

EvaluateAsExpression - False
Value - 2414
ValueType - Double

I have tried setting the ValueType to Object and other things... Same error... I read some where about how SSIS has issues when Oracle returns a Numeric type data. Can someone help me with this? Anything you all can tell me would be great.

SQL Server 2008 :: Using SSIS To Pull Oracle Data Into XML Field

Jul 1, 2015

We have a custom web C#/SQL2K8R2 workflow application that I need to pull Oracle data into a varchar(max) field as an XML DOM document. I have no problem pulling the Oracle data using OLEDB, but I'm not sure how to create the XML DOM doc. Once I get it into the DOM doc, I then need to assign metadata about the XML DOM doc and insert it all into a staging table:

CREATE TABLE [stg].[EtlImports](
[EtlImportId] [int] IDENTITY(1,1) NOT NULL,
[EtlSource] [varchar](50) NOT NULL,
[EtlType] [varchar](50) NULL,
[EtlDefn] [varchar](max) NULL, --Either a SQL statement or path to file on disk
[EtlData] [varchar](max) NULL, --BLOB field to hold the XML data or FILESTREAM path to file on disk
[EtlDateLanded] [datetime] NOT NULL,
[EtlDateProcessed] [datetime] NULL,
[EtlStatus] [varchar](50) NULL,
[Comments] [varchar](4000) NULL
) ON [PRIMARY] TEXTIMAGE_ON [PRIMARY]

I will have a separate SSIS package to pull the [XML/File] field and process the data into the workflow tables. Is there a wasy I can use the ADO Record-set Destination task to accomplish this, or do I have to create a custom C# script to create the XML DOM Doc?

SSIS OLEDB Data Source Query Parameters Connect To Oracle

Oct 26, 2007

Hi,

I'm trying to use query parameters with an Oracle OLEDB Source in a data

flow task and I'm having problems.

I've tried formatting the query each of the following ways...

--

select

frq_code,

frq_name,

update_frq,

uptime_frq

from frequency_bcs

where update_frq > ?

and update_frq <= ?

--

Parameters cannot be extracted from the SQL command. The provider might not

help to parse parameter information from the command. In that case, use the

"SQL command from variable" access mode, in which the entire SQL command is

stored in a variable.

Additional information

---> Provider cannot derive parameter information and SetParameterInfo has

not been called. (Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Oracle).

Error Retrieving Numeric Data From Oracle 10g On 64 Bit Itanium SSIS Server

Feb 1, 2007

I am working on a project to write SSIS packages to update a SQL Server 2005 database with data from an Oracle 10g database. Unfortunately, our development ETL box is running 32 bit Windows Server 2003 while the production ETL box is running 64 bit Itanium Windows Server 2003. We have created SQL Server Agent jobs to execute all of our packages. All of our jobs run without error on the 32 bit development box, but in our preproduction tests they are failing in the 64 bit box.

In my testing, I've found that I can successfully pull character data from Oracle. For example, I can write a package that retrieves the data for the following query:

SELECT 'test' FROM dual

However, the following fails:

SELECT 1 FROM dual

I have logging turned on in my package. When the package fails, I typically see informational messages in the log up to the point of failure, but no actual error event logs are generated. The only error information I have is in the SQL Server Agent job history log, which contains the following:

Executed as user: SERVERNAMESYSTEM. The return value was unknown. The process exit code was
-2147483646. The step failed.

I have also tried using the 64 bit version of the DTS Wizard to create a sample package, and observe the same behavior. When I run the DTS Wizard, queries that return numeric data cause DTSWizard.exe to exit and produce the following message in the application event log:

We have some columns in a table where the date is stored as 19980101 (YYYYMMDD). The data type for this column is NUMBER(8) in Oracle.

I need to copy rows from Oracle to SQL Server using SSIS. I used the Data Conversion transformation editor to change it to DT_DATE, but the rows are not being inserted to the destination.

On Error, If I fail the component, then the error is :

There was an error with input column "ORDER_DATE_CONV" (1191) on input "OLE DB Destination Input" (29). The column status returned was: "Conversion failed because the data value overflowed the specified type.".

Regards

Limit The Rows Returned By A SqlDataReader

Feb 14, 2008

Is there a way to limit the number of rows returned by a SqlDataReader? I know I can do it by modifying the Stored Procedure, but I'd rather not modify a procedure that is used in multiple apps. I'm hoping there is something easy like setting SqlDataReader.RowsReturned = 100, but that might be too easy to hope for.

Upper Limit For Rows In A Table?

Jul 20, 2007

There may/may not be an upper limit for the number of rows in a table, but is there any performance-related limit?

I'm designing a database that stores results that have been acquired from a number of devices. Each device provides a set of data measurements every 10 minutes. Therefore each year a device will produce 52000 sets of results.
If I design a table to store a row for each set of measurements from a device (PK is based on the timestamp and the deviceID), and if there are 100 devices recording for 5 years, there will be 52000x100x5 rows. Would I get a performance increase by separating this data into one table per year? Perhaps the year could be appended to the table name to identify the particular tables.

A secondary issue is some devices can also be configured to produce a different set of measurements every 10 seconds. In this case there will be hundreds of millions of rows over a 5 year period. Therefore I am considering bulking the results into an array for a 10 minute period, and storing this array as a blob each 10 minutes. Is this going to be faster or slower than having hundreds of millions of rows?

Thanks in advance for any advice,
Mark.

Limit Of Number Of Rows In A Table ?

Jun 28, 2007

Is there a limit of how many rows a table can have in SQL compact Edition? I didn't find anything in the documentation, but I get regularly a funny error message "Expression evaluation caused an overflow. [ Name of function (if known) = ]" when I try to create record number 32768 (is equal to 2 to the power of 15).

Where is this limit documented ?

Code Snippet

const string connectionString = "Data Source='" + dbFileName + "'; Max Database Size = 4091; temp file max size = 4091";

using (SqlCeEngine testEngine = new SqlCeEngine(connectionString)) {
testEngine.CreateDatabase();
}

using (SqlCeCommand addMValuesTableComand = testDbConnection.CreateCommand()) {
addMValuesTableComand.CommandText = "CREATE TABLE MValues (MSerieId int, TimeStamp smallint, Value real, PRIMARY KEY(MSerieId, TimeStamp))";
addMValuesTableComand.ExecuteNonQuery();
}

//fill table
StatusLabel.Text = "fill MValues Table";
using (SqlCeCommand fillTableComand = testDbConnection.CreateCommand()) {
int i = 0;
try {
int iterationCount = (int)RecordsCountNumericUpDown.Value;

ProgressBar.Value = 0;
ProgressBar.Maximum = iterationCount;
for (i = 0;i < iterationCount;i++) {
fillTableComand.CommandText = "INSERT MValues VALUES (1, " + i.ToString() + ", " + (i/100.0).ToString() + ")";
fillTableComand.ExecuteNonQuery();
ProgressBar.Value = i+1;
}
} catch (Exception ex) {
ErrorTextBox.Text = "Error occured" + Environment.NewLine +
"Iterations: " + i.ToString() + Environment.NewLine +
"Error Message: " + ex.ToString();
}
}
