SQL2000 IndexRebuild Confusion...

Hi:
I think SQL2000 does not allow on-line indexRebuild without single user status.

1. But from one server with maintenance plan, it looks like it could to it without knocking out all users connections.
2. Also, I doubt its result: did it really dropped and recreated indexes?

Dtexec Hangs Unexpectedly

I have noticed a strange behaviour when running some of my packages with dtexec. The packages use EventHandlers to log information to a database using the Execute SQL Task with the query stored in a variable. This variable is further part of the package configuration, so that I can change the query without changing the package itself. Now, this all works fine, until I made a typo in the query causing the syntax to be invalid, ie changing SELECT to SELCET. Now, one would expect the package to fail, and it does, if I run it through the debugger in Visual Studio, but when I run it using dtexec it just hangs and I have to kill the process using the Task Manager.

Peculiarly, I tried doing the same thing with a task that was not contained in an EventHandler, and then the package fails as expected, both when running it in the debugger and using dtexec. This is not a major problem, but what I am afraid of is that one day the database server will be down and cause an error in the Execute SQL Task in the EventHandler, causing dtexec to hang indefinitely. Has anyone else had problems like these?

Identity Out Of Sync After Unexpectedly Shut Down

I have 2 DB on SQL Server 7, that are synchronized by a continuous transactional replication.
The tables have a primary key on an identity column. In order to avoid conflicts,
the identities have different seeds, and increment equal to 10.
When the server shuts unexpectedly, the current value for the
identity column goes out of sync, that is it assumes the greatest value inserted.
The workaround is to run DBCC checkident to correct the identity value.

Is it a bug? Did anyone run in the same problem?

Hi

For 15 days now my SQL server service is terminating with the following error

MSSQLSERVER service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this 2 Time(s).
This service terminates and restarts automatically and sometimes doesnt restart we have to mannuly start it again.
Event ID: 7034.

Version Details

Version: MSSQL Server 2000
Service Pack: 3a
Build: 8.0.0.760

I have checked many forums most of them suggest to apply the latest service pack. But the same error has been reported by sites having SP4 also.

ReportServer Service Terminated Unexpectedly

I have been looking for some information regarding an error I have gotten several times on my production SQL Server 2000 box. Operating System is Windows Server 2003. The Reporting Services version is 8.00.878.00

Error is as follows:
The ReportServer service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this 3 time(s). The following corrective action will be taken in 60000 milliseconds: Restart the service.

The service restarts normally, or at least seems to, and Reporting Services work with no other issues. Received the error this morning (11/14); last time was on 10/31.

What can I do to prevent this from happening?

I am having the same problem as Cherley Vasconcelos mentioned.

   I checked for the 2 below mentioned Registery entries as suggested and they are present.

System:

AppData entry is present under the above registry entries with the value of "%USERPROFILE%Application Data

But the problem still exists.

Report Server Service Stopping Unexpectedly

we run ssrs 2005 sp2 hotfix applied - how do we troubleshoot a problem where the report server service is stopping unexpectedly several times a day. When this happens please tell me what happens to the reports that are currently running. I believe that

1) a current subscription that is running will fail - not sure if it will try to restart itself 3 times or not

2) connection to the report server db cannot be made when that occurs

this is a huge problem for us and we dont know what is causing it or how to fix it. Any suggestions would help. I can tell you that our customers flood the server with subscriptions

We are running SQL Server 2000 with SP4. This server has been running for the past six months with no SQL server problems. A Max of 10 users have access to the application running on this server.

The Event Viewer Log shows the

No other error messages were seen in the SQL server log or windows event viewer.
The time when it terminated was not during peak load/activity.

Unexpectedly Failed Installation Of SQL Server Express Edition

Pls help me on this issue...

The min reqt olny says Windows XP Service Pack 2. So, whether it is Pro or Home I assume this Edition will run. MY system is XP Home SP2 with 2GB RAM and Dual Core Intel Processor. Is this the problem? There is no error displayed on the summary.txt and I do not know how to read the log file. Pls help... Or do I need to upgrade to XP Pro?

Rows Unexpectedly Skipped While Loading Flat File

I tried to load a fixed width flat file with around 300,000 rows. However, only the first 8xxxx rows were loaded to the destineation table and the rest row were loading blank records. There was no error message showing during package execution. I've tried to split the file in half and the result was the same. So it wasn't the data file problem.

Would there be any buffering issue I need to cater for inside the package? Thanks!

I looked in this forum at others peoples threads and it seems as if they all have a lot larger Summary.txt file. I never had any other verson of SQL Server installed on this computer and i just uninstalled .net 2.0 framework and reinstalled it.

My computer runs Windows XP Pro with SP 2, AMD Athlon 64 Processor 3500+ 2.20 GHz, 1.00GB of RAM.

Anyone have any clue why the installation wont even start?

Receive Procedure Or Function Expects Parameter... Error Unexpectedly

Maybe I am missing something completely obvious but as far as I can tell I aren't!

I am trying to simply pass a parameter to a stored proc to return results. Easy? So I thought so too...

This is my stored procedure below (in it's ALTER PROCEDURE form):

Now I know this is a SQL Server forum but I figure anyone who reads this probably does some application programming as well, so here is the code that calls this. It's in VBA using Access 2003. I figure the error is being returned from SQL Server Express so that's why I have come to this forum instead of an Access forum! I could be wrong though...

Here is the code that calls this:

Can someone tell me what I am doing wrong?? The tblPerson table has data in it, if I run the select from a query window, specifying a value for @Check, it works just fine.

Hi ,

I have sql server installed on my laptop..It is a student evaluation version. Today morning,the sql server did not start and when attempted to start..I get the following message:
" SQL server started and stopped immediately. Some services stop automatically if they have no work to do , for example the performance logs and alerts."

Friends, can u help out!!

SSIS Stopped

This might be kinda long so please bear with me. I have a SSIS package that creates 2 other packages to pull in data from our as400. To do this I have a SQL 2005 table setup with as400 table names and columns and the matching sql tables names (I reuse the column names). I also use a flag to determine if the table name should be added to the data retreival that way if there is a need I can just run the procedure for a specific as400 table instead of all of them. The main SSIS package loops through the table to create the package to pull in the as400 data and put it into staging database. Then the main package creates another package that pushes the data from the "staging" sql to the "live" tables. This has been working great for about 5 months now. Yesterday I went to create a new job that would allow me to run the same jobs just with making change to the flags so that only certain tables are pulled in at certain times. This works very well in our test environment. For some reason it appears that it has corrupted the production packages. I can not get them to run at all now. The untouched jobs all of a sudden quit. I changed the new job to run as operating system and not SSIS and it says that it can not find it. I can see the file, I am using the SSIS on the file system. I can open the file and see all of the properties, I can copy and paste the file. I just can not run it. I was able to finally get the package to run using the command line but now there is something odd that it is sending to the as400. The kicker to me is that nothing changed with the SSIS package and nothing changed with the existing jobs I just added new ones and now it does not work. Could this be some corruption? Anyone else seen similar behaviors?

SQL Mail Stopped Functioning

SQL Server 7.0

SQL mail has stopped functioning. I have checked the profile in exchnage. All is ok. I have tested the MAPI profiles in SQLAgent and SQLMail they all give success. When I run xp_sendmail the process just runs and runs without sending a mail. I end up having to kill the prorcess. Any ideas?

SQLServer Could Not Be Stopped Remotely

I tried to stop SQLServer romotely through Enterprice Manager. It used to work. But, this time I got a message "a error 5 - (Access is denied) occurred while perfrming this service oetation on the MSSQLServer service." and it could not be stopped.

Do you know why and how to stop it.

Why Gets Stopped Sql Server 2000?

Now and then gets stopped the Sql Server 2000 that has been installed in our server. In the event viewer I notice the error number "C0000005".

I do not understand the reason. Can any one help me?

TableDiff Stop Functioning on 2million records with 1.8milion changes on a particular row. Only happen if "-f" is specified. Anyway to work around this?

Find Out If Instance Is Stopped

I'm running an SSIS package and I want to be able to skip instances that are stopped. Is there anyway that I can do a SELECT on some SERVERPROPERTY that would tell me if the instance is stopped?

Also, I was wondering about a delete from each table. I have each row timestamped in multiple tables. What could I do to set up a job to delete from each table rows after a certain timestamp?

Can Shrinkfile Be Stopped Without Problems?

I have an dbcc shrinkfile (emptyfile) running for more than one day now.
But soon I have to restart db service.
Would it give trouble, if I stop service?
I assume, I must run shrinkfile command again?

Open SQLConnection When Database Stopped

I'm hoping someone can explain to me exactly what the SQLConnection.Open() method does, especially when the database is stopped. I'm trying to include some error processing in my program, specifically to ensure the database is up and running. But even with the database stopped, the Open() statement works fine. Later, when I try to read from the database, I get the error. I'd like to stop it before it gets any further. Why is the Open() statement "working" even with the database stopped?

SQL Mail Stopped Suddenly !! Help Required.

Hi Everybody !!

I have a problem with SQL mail on SQL 6.5 with SP 5a . I have created a job called as mailtest and is scheduled to run every morning .
The task was running successfully till last week when suddenly it stopped responding on some of the SQL 6.5 Servers .

When i stop the SQL Mail and start again through the Enterprise Manager , and then run the task , it shows as successful .
Every morning i have to do it to check whether the mailtest is O.K .

But the automated mailtest task has stopped suddenly . I have checked the MAPI profile and is correct as the same is configured on other servers on which my mailtest runs successful.

Can somebody guess what the problem could be ?

Help: SQL Error Handling Stopped Working

Our stored procedure error handling is not working now but did before.

When a severity level 16 (Miscellaneous user error) occurs the batch (stored procedure) exits without processing the next statement which is the error check routine. This is a simple error processing routine and used to work. What could have changed?

I have searched books online and have found nothing on abnormal termination of a SQL batch. I would appreciate some help here.

Enterprise Manager Has Stopped Working!

I am having a real problem opening a database on a SQL server through EM. The DB is on the machine as I can use EM on another machine and login from there. However, when I try to login to the DB via EM on the actual server I cannot and get an error saying 'Connection failed. Check SQL Server registration properties'.

Even if I change the reg properties it still will not let me access the database, it just keeps giving the same error.

Has anyone seen something like this before?

Insert Into Query Stopped Working

The following query has been working for months and the other day it just stopped. I get no error, it just never finishes. It used to take 20 minutes. Nothing has changed that I know of.

The query is designed to insert the new records from the t_DTM_DATA_STAGING into t_DTM_DATA_STAGING2 using the t_DTM_DATA_1 as the outer join.

Average record count for t_DTM_DATA_STAGING is 2 Million

SQL SERVER STOPPED AFTER EVALUATION PERIOD

Hi,

I have inherited a nice problem when starting a new role.

My SQL server has stopped and i get the 17051 error when i try to start the services, It is the evaluation copy. I do have a registered full copy on another box.

I really want to keep some of the databases i have been using in the test environment. They have not been backing up as the msdb DB became corrupt some time ago.

Is there any way i can get them moved to my other box.

CAn i reinstall SQL server (another eval copy) onto the duff box (keeping the db's) back them up and then move them

in a pickle
