I have an application , user will read information in Excel file and insert that data into my application, I think it spend a lot of time. I want to make a tool which move data from Excel file to a table in My application (MS SQL) automaticly. How to do it, anybody has tool or know how to do, pls help me.thanks.
I need to export data from a table of SQL server 2000 database, into an Excel 2000 sheet. I tried following query from the sql query analyzer

It gave me following error
Code SnippetServer: Msg 2760, Level 16, State 1, Line 1 Specified owner name 'Excel 4.0;Database=F:ew.xls' either does not exist or you do not have permission to use it.
The F:ew.xls file is present and it has no additional security applied, hence I think it should be writable.
Please tell me where am I doing wrong.

I am working on an HR project and I have one final component that I am stuck on.
I have an Excel File that is loaded into a folder every month.
I have built a package that captures the data from the excel file and loads it into a staging table (transforming a few bits of data).
I then combine it with another table in a view.
I have another package that loads that view into a Master table and I have added a Slowly Changing Dimension so that it only updates what has been changed. (it’s a table of all employees, positions, hire dates, term dates etc).
Our HR wants to have this data in a report (with charts and tables) and they wanted it to be in a familiar format. So I made a data connection with Excel loading the data into a series of pivot tables.
I have one final component that i cant seem to figure out. At the end of every year I need to capture a count of all Active Employees and all Termed employees for that year. Just a count.
The data is in one table labeled [EEMaster]. To test the count I have the following.

this returns the HistoricalHC for 2013 as 418.

This returns the Number of Termed employees for 2013 as 42.
I have created a table to report from called [dbo.TORateFY] that I have manually entered previous years data into.
The ERP manufacturer used an image data type to store large text data fields. I am trying to move these data types from one database to another database using either Sql Queries or MS Access. I can cast them as an 8000 char varchar to read them directly but have no luck importing into these image data fields.
Access and Crystal are not able to read these fields directly.
Any suggestions? Most information about these fields has to do with loading files but I am just moving data.
I have a database that has been running well for a few years. It has a single data file. It has now become very large and is creaking and running slow sometimes. Is it possible to now create a secondary data file or do i have other options? Many Thanks
I am using a Excel Source to get the data from an excel file to sql server 2005 table. A couple columns are coming in a double precision float, but some values have characters in them, but those values are coming out as null, even though I changed the datatype from float to unicode string. Any inputs on resolving this will be much appreciated.
I have a database data file almost at 2tb maxing out a windows drive. Only 16gb left. Should I just add another data file on another Windows drive for growth? Or just move current huge data file to a new GPT drive? Or do both adding another data file and moving existing to its own new GPT drive?
I just installed SQL 2005 on a new box. I want to move a database from a SQL 2000 server to the new server. Can I detach the database, copy it and attach it in the new server without having problems?

l've some excel files controlled by Vendor which changing frequently. The only thing does not change is the header name of each column.
So my question is, is there any way to create a new table based on the excel file selected including the column name in SSIS? So that l can use the data reader as source to select those columns l am interested on and start the integration.
Okay, after I got everything imported, I found that a few thousand columns had "Shifted" on me. So now I am trying to "Shift them over" to where they need to be.
I did this: INSERT INTO dbo.TABLENAME (COLUMN_NAME_TO_BE POPULATED) SELECT COLUM_NAME_OF_INFO_TO_BE_MOVED FROM dbo.TABLENAME WHERE MFG = 'MANUFACTURER_NAME' AND PN LIKE '8888888888' GO
I populated the PN column with 8888888888 to use as a reference point, and the MFG column already was populated with the correct name, so I was using those as my unique reference points.
Other columns that have the same MFG name are correct, so I have to use two unique identifiers to specify the actual data that needs to be moved.
It inserted 'NULL' in the whole table after I ran it in the Query Analyzer. It appeared to disregard the WHERE statement all together Any ideas on what I am doing wrong here?

I have a production application that I am building some upgrades usinga second (empty) copy the database. A few of the upgrades includedchanging the datatypes of a few fields from varchar to int(all thevalues in this column are already numbers)I am not trying to move the data from the production database into theblank database using DTS and the fields that had their datatypeschanged are getting dropped by dts.Is there anyway to move this data easily through dts or through anothermethod and not have the fields with the datatype changes get dropped?I have about 60 tables so it is not as simple as just copying andpasting the data..
its my flow in one of my packates (ETL job) Excel file contains monthly revenue details, i wanna import the excel data to my database staging table, so i've created the package. its working fine...
Problem if we change the new data for the next month and running the package its not running; the same file, same format, only we delete the contents, of the file except first row of the excel sheet, and pasting the new data; new data is coming from Oracle DataBase in the form of excel sheet ( manually they will copy the data and sending to us)
i open that package in design mode and while double clicking the excel file source it says <column name>'s Meta Data needs to be synchronized Do you want to Fix this issue automatically with the available external column's meta data
Clearly noted that its a data type issue; i have changed the corresponding data types as it is in the previous Excel sheet which is equivalant to the Table its copying to.
now the package is running with validation warnings, External Column "Invoice Amount" needs to be updated...etc. some 2 or three warning messages i can able to see in the package Execution wizard,
ok, i'm ready to accept these warnings, and i want my package running from my server;( packages had been deployed in to the Centeralized server; every time if we want to run the package, we have the asp.net webpage, that is executing the package in an On_click event)
The package is not running from the server, its due to the meta data change in the Excel file( i guess)
please suggest me some guide lines to resolve this meta data issue, i want my excel sheet meta data should not change when we have new updates in it;
otherwise suggest me some solutions that i can validate the excel sheet before running the package and testing whether the data is in correct format or not? its a kind of Data Profiling activity;

After a certain period of time some records are to be sent to archive table.To copy records to archive table I am using SqlBulkCopy operations.Now I have to delete the records from A Table. I was thinking of sending a Comma seperated id's of rows that are to be deleted to a stored procedure.Are there any better techniques to move data to archive table and to remove data from main table.?Thanks.
Hey all, Another varbinary question. I am trying to move an image stored in a table varbinary(max) directly from one table to another programmatically. The rest of the data is just nvarchar(50) so I just use a T-SQL select statement in the code behind and feed all of the date into an SqlDataReader, I do this becuse there is some user interaction when the data is moved, so there may be some new values updated when transfering from one table to another, so once the old and possibly new data is stored in seperate variables then I use a T-SQL insert statement to move all of the data into the other table. Problem is I am not really sure how to handle the image data(varbinary(max)) to just do a straight up transfer from the one table to another. I get conversion errors when trying to handle the data as a string which makes sense. Not sure what to put for code examples since I really am stumped with this, but here is what is not working. I have two tables. They both have an identity field to join them together. One of the tables has a column of data that I want to put in the other table. I need to make sure the data is brought over using the join so it updates that column for the right record.
I am struggling with this. Should I use a update or an insert? I'm leaning toward update but I can't figure out how with the join.

There is a table in which the data is coming in a massive rate, what are the ways to move those data from that table to another DB in another server (kind of archiving).
I would like to move the data / findings into a perm table?The reason for this is so clients can connect to the table using excel. I have another stored procedure which is setup in this process already and it works well.
