I have recently moved jobs and have come across an unusual database setup that is not ideal for the resolution of my task at hand.
I need to query table A, which will return 1 and only 1 tablename as a result. there are various tablenames on table A but the query will always return a unique result. (from Table B-G for example)
My problem is now, how do i run my next query on the table i have returned from my first query. I need to be able to reference the value.
Making sense?
Ideal scenario would be if tables B-G were on a single table and had a unique identifier, but this architecture cannot be changed for numerous reasons and a workaround needs to be established. your help is much appreciated,
how do I get the variables in the cursor, set statement, to NOT update the temp table with the value of the variable ? I want it to pull a date, not the column name stored in the variable...
create table #temptable (columname varchar(150), columnheader varchar(150), earliestdate varchar(120), mostrecentdate varchar(120)) insert into #temptable SELECT ColumnName, headername, '', '' FROM eddsdbo.[ArtifactViewField] WHERE ItemListType = 'DateTime' AND ArtifactTypeID = 10 --column name declare @cname varchar(30)
Dears, I'm trying to set up a rda connection through the pocket pc emulator (standalone version 1.0) and my laptop which runs Windows Vista Home Premium. To start up the rda I first need to connect from my emulated device to my laptop which runs IIS 7.0 (complete installation with compatibility toward IIE 6.0). Connection to http://localhost from my laptop is working fine.
I start the emulator (Pocket Pc with Windows Professional) and cradle the emulated device. Connection starts and I'm able to browse from my pc the content of the emulated device or to synchronize it. Then I run Internet Explorer on the emulator and try to connect to http://mycomputername (correct) but I receive a message which says that it cannot connect to the page I was looking for because connection was lost. Any suggestion on how to solve this issue? Kind regards and many thanks in advance Cristian
It seems that now I can connect to http://mycomputername and I'm able to browse the net with my pocket pc emulator. Anyway when I'm attempting to connect to htpp://mycomputername/subfolder/sqlcesa30.dll (the path is correct, I receive the following error message: "The page cannot be displayed or downloaded because the connection was lost. Check the connection and try later"..which is the same message I've been receiving before)
I need to copy a large amount of data from one table and insert it into another table.
The design of the destination table is exactly the same as the source table except for the fact that it has one extra field. Can I copy; in a single SQL statement; all rows in one table (that match given criteria) into another table allowing for the extra field?
My dev environment: VS2005, SQLServer Mobile, SQLServer 2005 server db, PPC windows app.
Having a problem with pull. First pull works fine. I request an error table from the pull. When I need to repull, I drop the table, but if I try to programmatically delete the error table, I get the message that the table has restricted DDL operations allowed. Apparently Drop is not allowed. Sometimes dropping the main table deletes the error table, sometimes it doesn't. If I try to repull and the error table is there, the pull fails.
I've tried "flushing" my cache by closing my connection and reopening, but that doesn't work.
I am currently implementing RDA Pulls and Pushes. Both worked fine for me, except when I try to pull a certain table twice. I read that in order to pull the table a second time I must drop it on the client.
My original approach was to use a select statement with a where criterium in the pull statement (e.g. SELECT * from tblPhonebook where Pulled = 0), then set Pulled to 1 and pull again later.
My understanding of RDA was that I use the where criterium to filter the data at the server side and simply append that data at the client side.
Can I simply append data in some way or do I really have to drop the table on the client side every time I pull?
Please help. (I am using ASP, VB, SQL)I have a table with Office address information and it's ID. There could be a lot of offices in one city. But I would like to display only unique cities with certain names they start with and their id's.
I am building RDA process between SQL server and SQL server CE. Since when we use the method 'SqlCeRemoteDataAccess.pull()', the data will be pulled down from SQL server to CE server and a new table is created with some addtional columns. As I only intend to pull the data and never push it back to SQL server, if I pull the data down for the second time, there will be an error saying that table is already existing. I wonder whether I can pull the data to an existing table everytime I do the RDA?
I'm wondering if there is a single statement I can write to pull my data. Let's say my Order table has one field for userId and one field for supervisorId (among other fields) both of which are foreign keys into the Users table where their name, address, etc. are stored. What I'd like to do is to pull all the rows from Order and have a join that pulls the user name and supervisor name from the User table all in one go. Right now I pull all the Orders with just user name joined, and then go back over the objects to add the supervisor name as a separate query.
The reason I'd like to do this is to simplify the objects I'm passing to the GridView by doing a single fetch instead of multiples. I'm using SQL Server, .NET 2.0 and VS.NET 2005.
I'm trying to pull all records from one table and just a single record from another. I have this join, (see below). It works ok, but the problem is if a blog record doesn't have a corresponding image record it doesn't return. The end result should be the blog record and a single corresponding image record. But always a blog record.
I have a table thats updated daily with monthly data totals:
Month, Total orders1, Total orders2, etc 12/01/2012, 5, 8, etc 11/01/2012, 6, 5, etc
How do I pull data from this table in SQL Server for ONLY the current month? I was thinking using the getdate() function to get the current month, but it doesn't match exactly so I get no results
Hi, Im trying to pull data from 2 fields in the same table into a SqlDataSource that feeds into a GridView, and display them as 1 field in GridView? I have a database table that has entries of users and their friends. so this tblFriendUser has a column called UserName and another column called FriendUserName. I am trying to get a list of friends for that particular user. Note that if User1 initiated the friend request, he will be listed as UserName and his friend as FriendUserName, but if his friend initiated the friend request, it will be vice versa: him being the FriendUserName and his friend the UserName. So I want the following 2 queries run and merged into one query in order to return 2 columns only: UserFriendID & UserName, is that possible? Is my design bad? Any suggestions/advice would help! Thanks a lot!
SELECT UserFriendID, UserName FROM tblUserFriends WHERE (UserName = @UserName);
SELECT UserFriendID, FriendUserName AS UserName FROM tblUserFriends WHERE (FriendUserName= @UserName);
I am trying to use SQL to pull unique records from a large table. The table consists of people with in and out dates. Some people have duplicate entries with the same IN and OUT dates, others have duplicate IN dates but sometimes are missing an OUT date, and some don’t have an IN date but have an OUT date.
What I need to do is pull a report of all Unique Names with Unique IN and OUT dates (and not pull duplicate IN and OUT dates based on the Name).
I have tried 2 statements:
#1: SELECT DISTINCT tblTable1.Name, tblTable1.INDate FROM tblTable1 WHERE (((tblTable1.Priority)="high") AND ((tblTable1.ReportDate)>#12/27/2013#)) GROUP BY tblTable1.Name, tblTable1.INDate ORDER BY tblTable1.Name;
#2: SELECT DISTINCT tblTable1.Name, tblTable1.INDate FROM tblTable1 WHERE (((tblTable1.Priority)="high") AND ((tblTable1.ReportDate)>#12/27/2013#)) UNION SELECT DISTINCT tblTable1.Name, tblTable1.INDate FROM tblTable1 WHERE (((tblTable1.Priority)="high") AND ((tblTable1.ReportDate)>#12/27/2013#));
Both of these work great… until I the OUT date. Once it starts to pull the outdate, it also pulls all those who have a duplicate IN date but the OUT date is missing.
Example:
NameINOUT John Smith1/1/20141/2/2014 John Smith1/1/2014(blank)
I am very new to SQL and I am pretty sure I am missing something very simple… Is there a statement that can filter to ensure no duplicates appear on the query?
I'm not at all comfortable with SSIS so please forgive me if I overload you all with information here:
I need to create a data table using SSIS which does not delete the previous days data. So far all the data tables we use to write reports in Visual Studio are constructed in SSIS as follows.
1 - Excecute SQL Task - DELETE FROM STOCK 2 - Data Flow Task 3 - Data Reader Source - SELECT * FROM ODBCDATASOURCE 4 - OLE DB Destination (Creates table STOCK)
The data tables which are created this way are stored in a data warehouse and scheduled to refresh once a day, which means that any data from yesterday is lost when the updates run. So, I tried to create a table which never has its previous days' data deleted by using just the last three steps above - and it worked great in Visual Studio, no problem at all. However, when I added this SSIS Package to the Update Job in SQL Server Management Studio, the job totally rejected the packed with the message: "The command line parameters are invalid. The step failed".
I thought I could work around this problem by asking the job step to excecute a simple SQL query to insert the data from table1 into table2 (and would thus negate the need for a SSIS Packege at all), but it threw me a curve ball with some message about not being able to use proxy accounts to run T-SQL Scripts.
If anyone knows how to create a SSIS package in which the data never expires please could you impart some wisdom my way. I only need to do this once for a specific report.
Please, when answering, bear in mind that I'm a simple fellow with little understanding of the inner workings of SQL Server and its various components, so please use short sentences and simple words.
I am wondering if tempdb stores all results tempararily whenever I query a large fact table with over 4 million records which joins another dimension table? Since each time when I run the query, the tempdb grows to nearly 1GB which nearly runs out all the space on my local system drive, as a result the performance totally down. Is there any way to fix this problem? Thanks a lot in advance and I am looking forward to hearing from you shortly for your kind advices.
Simple example:    declare @tTable(col1 int)    insert into @tTable(col1) values (1)    select * from @tTable
Works perfectly in SQL Server Management Studio and the database connection is OK to as I may generate PP table using complex (or simple) queries without difficulty.
But when trying to get this same result in a PP table I get an error, idem when replacing table variable by a temporary table.
Message: OLE DB or ODBC error. .... The current operation was cancelled because another operation the the transaction failed.
I want to make a query, stored procedure, or whatever which will only display the primary key where there does no exist a foreign key in linked table.For example. If I had two tables with a one to many relationship.A [Computer] has one or more [Hard Drives]. I want to select only those computers which do not have a Hard Drive(s) associated with them. That is, show all computers where the Computer_ID field in the [Hard Drives] table does not exist. This seems simple but I'm drawing a blank here.
I have set up a 'Parameters' table that solely stores all pre-assigned selection values for a webform. I customized a stored query to Select the values from the Parameters table. I set up the webform. The result is that the form1.apsx automatically populates each DropDownList task with the pre-assigned values from the 'Parameters' table (for example, the stored values in the 'Parameters' table 'Home', 'Business', and 'Other' populate the drop down list for 'Type'). The programming to move the selected data from form1.aspx to a new table in the SQL database perplexes me. If possible, I would like to use the form1.aspx to Postback (or Insert) the "selected" data to a *new* column in a *new* table (such as writing the data to the 'CustomerType' column in the 'Customers' table; I clearly do not want to write back to the 'Parameters' table). Any help to get over this hurdle would be deeply appreciated.
Strange one here - I am posting this in both SQL Server and Access forums
Access is telling me it can't append any of the records due to a key violation.
The query:
INSERT INTO dbo_Colors ( NameColorID, Application, Red, Green, Blue ) SELECT Colors_Access.NameColorID, Colors_Access.Application, Colors_Access.Red, Colors_Access.Green, Colors_Access.Blue FROM Colors_Access;
Colors_Access is linked from another MDB and dbo_Colors is linked from SQL Server 2000.
There are no indexes or foreign contraints on the SQL table. I have no relationships on the dbo_ table in my MDB. The query works if I append to another Access table. The datatypes all match between the two tables though the dbo_ tables has two additional fields not refrenced in the query.
I can manually append the records using cut and paste with no problems.
I need to add a child table that will tell us who the participants counselor is, what I did was I did a Make Table query based off the primary key of the Parent table and made that the link (foreign key) for the People_tbl and the Counselor_tbl, so if the counselor changes then the user adds the record to the counselor tbl and then puts in the Effective date. The problem is that when I run a report it doesn't show the present counselor always shows the old counselor?
Code: SELECT Student_ind.StudentFirstName, Student_ind.StudentLastName, Student_ind.[Student ID], People_tbl.[Family ID], People_tbl.FirstName, People_tbl.LastName, People_tbl.[Parent ID] FROM People_tbl RIGHT OUTER JOIN Student_ind ON People_tbl.[Family ID] = Student_ind.[Family ID] WHERE (People_tbl.LastName = @Enter_LastName) AND (People_tbl.FirstName = @Enter_FirstName)
I have two tables that share a common identity row. I need to build a query where data that exists in one table does not contain data in the other table. For example, table 1 has columns of Owner_ID, LastName, FirstName and table 2 has columns Auto_ID, Owner_ID, AutoMake. Both tables are joined by the Owner_ID column. I need a query that provides all owners from table 1 who do not have an entry in table 2.
convert my table(like picture) to hierarchical structure in SQL. actually i want to make a table from my data in SQL for a TreeList control datasource in VB.net application directly.
ProjectID is 1st Parent Type_1 is 2nd Parent Type_2 is 3rd Parent Type_3 is 4ed Parent
SET @QUERY = "INSERT INTO tblDocTable(FileName, FileType, ImportExportID, BuildingID, Document)
SELECT '"+@fName+"' AS FileName, '"+@fType+"' AS FileType, " + cast(@fID as nvarchar(18)) + " as ImportExportID, '"+@bID+"' AS BuildingID, * FROM OPENROWSET( BULK '" +@fPath+"' ,SINGLE_BLOB)
AS Document"
EXEC (@QUERY)
This puts some values including a pdf or .doc file into a table, tblDocTable.
Is it possible to change this so that I can get the values from a table rather than as parameters. The Query would be in the form of: insert into tblDocTable (a, b, c, d) select a,b,c,d from tblimportExport.
tblImportExport has the path for the document (DocPath) so I would subsitute that field, ie. DocPath, for the @fPath variable.
Otherwise I can see only doing a Fetch next from tblIportExport where I would put every field into a variable and then run this exec query on these. Thus looping thru every row in tblImportExport.
This program gets the values of A and B passed in. They are for table columns DXID and CODE. The textbox GET1 is initialized to B when the page is loaded. When I type another value in GET1 and try to save it, the original initialized value gets saved and not the new value I just typed in. A literal value, like "222" saves but the new GET1.TEXT doesn't.
All, Using access 2003 frontend and sql server 2008 backend. I have an append query to insert 80000 from one table to an empty table. I get an error:
"Microsoft Office Access set 0 field(s) to Null due to a type conversion failure, and didn't add 36000 record(s) to the table due to key violations, 0 record(s) due to lock violations, and 0 record(s) due to validation rule violations."
I know this error normally comes if there are dups in a field that doesnt allow.
hi all, is there any query to move certain data from a sql data to access table through query. i am having a requirement where i have to fetch the records from a sql table that falls within a specified range to a ms access table. is this possible through a query.
Where interid in ('comp1', 'comp2', 'comp4', 'comp5')
what would be the best way to using these scripts pull the data to my testDW and not have duplicate data issues?
I was thinking of using a staging DB on the GP cluster and then building an import data package to run nightly. the issue i had was how do i avoid duplicate data ?
