Iam showing the query results in the asp.net grid. Iam getting a long string with more than 1 space between some words. How i can trim the spaces of that column result.
I tried RTRIM and LTRIM but these functions need two individual strings with spaces either left or right.
I have a column which has some white spaces that I suspect is tab delimeted one. So when I use a rtrim(col1) it would not trim those. So i used a scrip component and wrote this line,
Row.trimDetail = RTrim(Row.detail)
here trimdetail is an o/p column and detail is the input col with the trailing spaces.
but still I don know why the column has that spaces. Can someone help me to figure out what is the problem ?
using below script to read two column from a text file and trying to trim the spaces for file_name.but trimming is not happening
bulk insert #O_P from 'C:UsersTKTPA.txt' with (fieldterminator = ',',rowterminator = '') END INSERT INTO O_P (file_name,location) SELECT LTRIM(RTRIM(file_name)), location From #O_P
HI, I am using XmlDataDocuments returned by webservices and query in the reports to populate the reports.
The issue I have is if the dataset used to populate the XML document has any nulls or empty spaces in any field the whole column or row is missing in the data generated by my query in the Reports. Sometimes the whole data is not being returned to the reports.
I have tested the webservice with sample data and it works well, returns data.
I use the ISNULL() in my stored procedures to avoid nulls but with empty strings, replacing them with a default value in the managed code is expensive and slows down the reports. Is there some feature I am missing because of which nulls and empty strings are causing this problem.
Will the fuzzy grouping task match a null value to an empty string (or spaces)? I've got 5 columns I'm matching on, and one of them may be null for certain rows but an empty string for others. Given the 4 other columns may match, will this difference stop similar columns being grouped together?
(Someone's modified my grouped data since it was deduped, which takes a while, and I'm hoping for a quick answer on this).
I created manage update trigger to react on one column changes. There is an application which is working with DB, so I don't have access to SQL query which changes this column. In most cases trigger works fine, but in one case when this column changes, trigger is fired and IsUpdatedColumn is true for this column, but both inserted and deleted table are empty, so I can't get new value for this column. Any idea why is it happened? Is any way around?
This column type is uniqueidentifier. Inserted and deleted tables are empty when application is changing value from NULL to not null value, but if I change it myself from Management Studio inserted table contains right values. Most like problem is in query which is changing that value.
My Input is a flat file source and it has spaces in few columns in the data . These columns are linked to another table as a foreign key and when i try loading them in a relational structure Foreigh key violation is occuring , is there a standard method to replace these spaces .
what approach should i take so that data gets loaded in a relational structure.
for example
Name Age Salary Address dsds 23 fghghgh
Salary description level 2345 nnncncn 4
here salary is used in this example , the datatype is char in real scenario
what approach should i take to load the data in with cleansing the spaces in ssis
Formatting question. The query below is failing on the columns with spaces in the name. I've tried brackets and single quotes with no luck. How should this be formatted?
----------------------------
SELECT x.trkuniq, s.mstuniq, t.meetuniq, c.coursec AS Course_Code, c.descript AS Course_Name, [q.cactus #] AS Cactus_# s.sectionn AS Section, RTRIM(f.lastname) + ', ' + RTRIM(f.firstname) AS Teacher, f.funiq, t.termc AS Term_Code, zd.cycldayc AS Day, zp.periodc AS Period, zp.periodn, p.schoolc AS School FROM mstmeet t INNER JOIN mstsched s ON t.mstuniq = s.mstuniq INNER JOIN trkcrs x ON s.trkcrsuniq = x.trkcrsuniq INNER JOIN course c ON x.crsuniq = c.crsuniq INNER JOIN track p ON p.trkuniq = x.trkuniq INNER JOIN facdemo f ON s.funiq = f.funiq INNER JOIN courses q ON c.coursec = [q.course number] INNER JOIN trkper zp ON t.periodn = zp.periodn AND x.trkuniq = zp.trkuniq INNER JOIN trkcycle zd ON t.cycldayn = zd.cycldayn AND x.trkuniq = zd.trkuniq
--Customer INSERT INTO [dbo].[BudCustomers] ([LegalName] ,[EffectiveDate] ,[LawsonCustomerNumber] ,[ChangeReason] ,[ImportedRecord]
[Code] .....
Next I am inserting into budcontracts table but here in this table to insert i want the inserted terminalid and customerid column which are unqiue identity based.
So how to do that here in this query
--Contracts INSERT INTO [dbo].[BUDCONTRACTS] ([CONTRACTNAME] ,[CONTRACTNUMBER] ,[VERSIONSTARTDATE] ,[VERSIONTERMINATIONDATE]
I have recently installed SQL 7.0 on a test server for the purpose of testing an application that currently runs on SQL 6.5. I used the Upgrade Wizard to move a small test database from 6.5 to 7.0. The upgrade was successful, with a few errors that were from Logins that were not defined as users in the test database.
When I try to run the application on 7.0, I get a series of ADO Exception errors with the SOURCE : OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers. The description of the errors reads Cannot use empty object or column names. Use a single space if necessary. When I select OK in the message box, the application continues to load, until another error occurs. After 20 30 message boxes, the application comes up. However once in the application, the errors continue.
Is there someone who could shed some light on the nature of my problem? There is obviously something incompatible between the latest version of the SQL ODBC driver, my application, and the database. The description seems to refer to empty columns or tables. Obviously, this was not a problem with 6.5 and the older ODBC driver (3.60). I have run the database through the upgrade wizard twice. Once with the ANSI NULLS option OFF, and the other time with it ON. This makes no difference. I have searched the Microsoft Web site under SQL and ODBC using some of the keywords in the message box., but did not come up anything useful. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I am wanting to make a query to find out if there are any columns in a table that are null for all records.
So far I am using a cursor that holds all the column names of that table and then a stored procedure that would use a loop to cycle through all the column names in a query to essentially count the number of nulls for each column and then an If statement to check to see if the #of nulls = to the number of records.
What isn't working is my query to count the number of nulls...Here is my query
select count(*) from XYZ where @cName is null
Ive tried declaring cName as a sysname, and varchar, neither work.
Also, I've tried using COL_NAME(OBJECT_ID('XYZ'), someColumnIndx)...I think this would be the better choice just because I wouldn't need to use a cursor, but both aren't working. I am a bit new to MSSQL and don't know my way around the system tables. Is there a sys table that would give me this info so I wouldn't need to perform a query?
We are writing a C application that is using ODBC to insert recordsinto a database. We have a NOT NULL column that can legitimately havean empty value, i.e. we know the value and it is empty (i.e. a zerolength string). We are using SQLBindParameter() to bind a variable to theparameterized insert statement <<in the form: INSERT INTO table VALUES(?, ?, ?)>>. We are using SQLExecDirect() to process the SQL.We are running into the problem where ODBC is converts the empty (zerolength) string into a NULL value and this errors due to the fact thatthe column is defined as NOT NULL.We do not want to redefine the column as NULL, becasue myunderstanding of the correct usage of a NULL column is to indicatethat a value is unknown or meaningless... in our case we know thevalue (it is empty) and an empty value has meaning within ourapplication.I'm sure that this issue has been seen and address thousands(millions?) of times... any guidance would be appreciated.
we have a database hosted online on sql server 05. at work, we have a sql 2000 query analyzer on a machine, and sql 2005 management studio on a machine. both machines can connect to the database, both can pull up the data from a certain table. but there are two columns that display info in query analyzer that show up as empty on management studio. not null, just empty. any ideas why?
A table was created in version 6.5 that has 2 blank spaces and a slash '/' in it's name (i.e. Item Type w/Groups). This was done in error and now the table cannot be dropped or renamed and dropped.
Does anyone know how I can delete this table? Please let me know.
I am looking for a Sql query to verify the inserted values from one table(in CSV file) with another table(in sql database)
For example: I have below Values column that is present in once CSV file, after my data migration the values get stored in Results table under Message column.
I need to very whether values(1X,1Y) are inserted in Message record "successfully inserted value 1X"
Values (CSV) 1X 1Y
Results Table(SQL) CreatedDate Message 2015-08-04 08:45:29.203 successfully inserted value 1X 2015-08-04 08:44:29.103 TEst pass 2015-08-04 08:43:29.103 successfully inserted value 1X 2015-08-04 08:42:29.203 test point 2015-08-04 08:35:29.203 successfully inserted value 1Y 2015-08-04 08:30:29.203 Test Pass 2015-08-04 08:28:29.203 successfully inserted value 1Y
If all values are inserted:
Output: All values from values table are inserted successfully Total count of values inserted: 2 If only few values are inserted, example only 1X from Values table is inserted in Message
Example: Results Table CreatedDate Message 2015-08-04 08:45:29.203 successfully inserted value 1X 2015-08-04 08:44:29.103 TEst pass 2015-08-04 08:43:29.103 successfully inserted value 1X 2015-08-04 08:42:29.203 test point
Output: All values from values are not inserted successfully in result table. Total count of values inserted: 1 Missing Values not inserted in results table are: 1Y
I am trying to update one table when records are inserted in another table.
I have added the following trigger to the table “ProdTr” and every time a record is added I want to update the field “Qty3” in the table “ActInf” with a value from the inserted record.
My problem appears to be that I am unable to fill the variables with values, and I cannot understand why it isn’t working, my code is:
ALTER trigger [dbo].[antall_liter] on [dbo].[ProdTr] for insert as begin declare @liter as decimal(28,6)
So I have been trying to get mySQL query to work for a large database that I have. I have (lets say) two tables Table_One and Table_Two. Table_One has three columns: Type, Animal and TestID and Table_Two has 2 columns Test_Name and Test_ID. Example with values is below:
In Table_One all types come under one column and the values of all Types (Mammal, Fish, Bird, Reptile) come under another column (Animals). Table_One and Two can be linked by Test_ID
I am trying to create a table such as shown below:
This should be my final table. The approach I am currently using is to make multiple instances of Table_One and using joins to form this final table. So the column Bird, Reptile, Mammal and Fish all come from a different copy of Table_one.
For e.g
Select Test_Name AS 'Test_Name', Table_Bird.Animal AS 'Birds', Table_Mammal.Animal AS 'Mammal', Table_Reptile.Animal AS 'Reptile, Table_Fish.Animal AS 'Fish' From Table_One
[Code] .....
The problem with this query is it only works when all entries for Birds, Mammals, Reptiles and Fish have some value. If one field is empty as for Test_Two or Test_Three, it doesn't return that record. I used Or instead of And in the WHERE clause but that didn't work as well.
I want to insert a row for a Global user in Table 'A' whenever ADO.Net code inserts a Local user row into same table. I recommended using a trigger to implement this functionality, but the DBA was against it, saying that stored proecedures should be used, since triggers are unreliable and slow down the system by placing unecessary locks on the table. Is this true OR the DBA is saying something wrong? My thinking is that Microsoft will never include triggers if they are unreliable and the DBA is just wanting to offload the extra DBA task of triggers to the programmer so that a stored procedure is getting called, so he has less headache on his hands. Thanks
I want to pass the 'inserted' table from a trigger into an SP, I think I need to do this by dumping inserted table into a temporary table and passing the temp table. However, I need to do this for many tables, and don't want to list all the column names for each table/trigger (maintenance nightmare).
Can I dump the 'inserted' table to a temp table WITHOUT specifying the column names?
Hi all!In a insert-trigger I have two joins on the table named inserted.Obviously this construction gives a name collition beetween the twojoins (since both joins starts from the same table)Ofcourse I thougt the usingbla JOIN bla ON bla bla bla AS a_different_name would work, but itdoes not. Is there a nice solution to this problem?Any help appriciated
All, Using access 2003 frontend and sql server 2008 backend. I have an append query to insert 80000 from one table to an empty table. I get an error:
"Microsoft Office Access set 0 field(s) to Null due to a type conversion failure, and didn't add 36000 record(s) to the table due to key violations, 0 record(s) due to lock violations, and 0 record(s) due to validation rule violations."
I know this error normally comes if there are dups in a field that doesnt allow.
I thought it contained all data used in an insert; meaning if i enter a row in a table the inserted table should then contain all data entered?
Ive created multiple tables linked via primary key Learner_ID this key is unique to any/all students and can never be duplicated hence i thought i would use it to link the tables.
I have tables Fab / Main / Elec / Learner_info / WS_WR.
For Fab / Main / Elec the only data i need form Learner_info is the Learner_ID field, i simply used:
INSERT INTO FAB(Leaner_ID) SELECT Learner_ID FROM Inserted
as a trigger to insert the ID into these tables. Everything works perfectly fine. So i assumed that i would be able to use something very similar to insert say:
Learner_ID, FNAME, LNAME, ONAME and C_NUM from the learner_info table into the WR_WS table. Apparently i was wrong I can insert the learner_ID perfectly but if i then try to add another insert trigger eg: insert fname i get an sql error:
Cannot insert the value NULL into the column 'LEARNER_ID', table 'swdt_im.WS_WR'; column does not allow nulls. INSERT fails.
Now from reading the error it suggests to me that because the second trigger is running my learner_id value has become a NULL. Obviously a primary key wont accept this value so the statement fails.
What im struggling to understand, im sure i will solve the problem eventually but i would apreciate help, and this is most important to me rather than a solution is this:
If i enter data into a row on a table does that data go into the inserted table in the same row? or does the data go into inserted as a single entry row, meaning when i tab along from learner_ID into FNAME does Learner_ID become row 1 (in inserted) and FNAME the current row? or do they go into the appropriate columns?
I was under the assumption that i could enter:
LEARNER_ID / FNAME / LNAME / ONAME / C_NUM
into one table and have a trigger insert those values into multiple other tables. Dont suppose someone can help me out im alright querying a SQL db but ive never had to develop anything other than a single table one myself before
