Accounts :: Deleting Account Leaves Traces Of That User Behind In C

Jan 25, 2016

I noticed an annoying problem when deleting a user account from your PC. Basically Windows Store app got into a pickle on my main user account. I fixed it with a restore point. But it wasn't working on my wife and son's user accounts. As they barely use them and have little to lose I decided to delete their accounts and then re-create them. The intention being to see if Windows Store worked correctly after doing so (It did!!!).

I deleted the accounts, restarted machine for clean slate and set them up again. All good but something that I noticed and really annoyed me was when I went into network I could see the WMP sharing media projecting my wife's name twice and the same for my son. Looks a bit rubbish. I went on my TV into media sharing and could see the duplicate WMP clients listed on here. So as a test I deleted my son's account again and re-created and sure enough now three WMP shares from his name.

So I looked under C:users and can see (using my son as an example) three folders ... son's name, son's name-pc name, son's name.000-pc name. So this is why I see the duplications because good old Windows 10 doesn't fully delete the user from C:users. I tried deleting those old folders but got met with either 'in use' or 'denied - you need admin access'. Of course my account is an administrator so that doesn't compute!!!! I tried taking ownership of those folders and got met with all kinds of resistance but I deleted enough of them to stop the duplicate WMP shares. Basically there is nothing in the folders and sub folders but just having a Roaming/Microsoft/Windows/Libraries folder is enough to create a WMP share even for deleted users.

I don't know if not running the WMP share service would make a difference in that you can delete the old user. But this seems a bit lame and is another one to add to my poor experiences using Windows 10. Of course I want to keep the WMP share feature. I could of turned it off to stop this duplication but it would of been completely switched off which wasn't the answer.

Accounts :: How To Disable Second Login Option

Nov 24, 2015

I have two login issues.

1. After installing W10, it seems rebooting brings up two accounts with the same email address. The first account is linked to my live.com account and uses the live.com password to login. The live.com login is what I wanted and I set up the PC to auto login with those credentials. But now this second login option pops up and kills the auto login. This second login seems to allow for a local or domain login. How do I disable that second login option?

2. I was putting up with item 1, but today I have managed to lock myself out altogether. Since I have my W10 connected to a TV and am viewing from a distance, I right clicked on the desktop and changed the font size to 150%. It asked me to logoff so that this change could take effect. When coming back up the live.com logon password box only seems to take 5 characters. My password is 9 characters. I am now locked out of my PC.

I am now on my Chromebook and have confirmed the live.com password is still valid (just in case that is the problem).

Accounts :: Removing Microsoft Account Login?

Sep 18, 2015

I'm running windows 10 pro free upgrade, I stupidly created a Microsoft account to install an app 'remote desktop' it changed my login to an email address, that messed up all my network logons, and I don't want an email logon, I hate it. I want a normal name login. I forever connect to remote servers and cant mess around trying to connect!

How can I remove the Microsoft account login, its taken over my prime login with all my applications, I cant seem to delete it, I deleted my Microsoft account and now cant change the password on it!

I don't mind hacking the registry. I just need it gone. otherwise its a start again windows 7 installation.

Accounts :: Password Protected Login Feature

Jan 5, 2016

So I have Windows 10 and want to get rid of the password protected login feature. I found some steps on this site which are vaguely "On your windows 10 Start menu window, right click at the Win logo > select Run option > in the Run box type netplwiz > OK > follow the prompts. Restart Win 10."

Did that. On restart, I didn't need a password. Naturally, I thought the problem was solved. Nope. When the computer goes to sleep, I need to enter a password to re-open it; when it is turned off or restarted, I don't need a password.

Accounts :: Can't Set Up PIN Login For (Family Member) Account

Dec 31, 2015

We got our daughter a new PC for xmas which is preloaded with Win10 Home x64.

I have set myself up as the main user (Admin) and also set up a 'family member' account for her to control her activity which has her own seperate login details consisting of her Microsoft email address and a strong password.

Rather than her having to login with her strong password which is quite difficult to remember for a 9yr old, I wanted to set up a 4 digit PIN login instead like I have set up on my Admin account.

I then logged in to her account to set up the PIN login which asks for my parental permission which requires me to login and allow the change.

I am then required to input my credit card details and address to verify I am an adult.

Now the problem is on the address part the screen the country is already set to the USA which requires a State and Zipcode whereas I live in the UK. There is no visible menu to change the country from the US to the UK. (see photo below)

Now my Admin account and my daughters account are both correctly set to the UK as their region with keyboard settings set to the UK also.

I can find no way possible to change the region as the USA locale is already set/grayed out with no menu to change it.

Two Accounts - How To Disable Automatic Login When Turn On PC

Aug 1, 2015

This is a thing that was also on 8.1 (that I hated a lot) and i couldnt remove. I have 2 accounts on my pc (home and my own account) and everytime i turn the pc on, the last account that was used logs in automatically (mine asks password actually, but the home's one doesn't, so it just logs in).

This is a thing i hate, since makes me waste time login out and login with the account i want to use. Is out there any option for disable that? In 8.1 that wasn't possible.

Accounts :: Can't Login - User Profile Service Failed

Dec 26, 2015

I just tried to log in to my Admin account and got the error "The user profile service failed the sign-in. User profile service cannot be loaded".I can log in to my user account and do admin tasks when prompted by UAC. SFC /SCANNOW shows no errors and CHKDSK shows no errors.I did a system restore at boot and can now enter the admin account but it has several access errors. I changed another user account to an admin account and that works. However, if I create a new admin account, I get the same error "The user profile service failed the sign-in. User profile service cannot be loaded".

I'm unsure how to proceed from here. Should I do an in place repair install or is there another fix? The fundamental problem is I can't create a new working admin account.

Accounts :: Hide Administrator Account In Login Screen?

Nov 8, 2015

Is there any way that I can hide the Administrator account during the login screen but at the same time access it whenever I need it.

Like if the user logs off, he should not see the Administrator account, only his standard account.

But I will also need to access the Administrator account from time to time so it should be accessible.

Things were much easier during XP where one just had to put in the Username to access their account.
