BSOD :: Freezing During Certain Games

Feb 23, 2016

I have been having an issue for a few weeks now where my computer will BSOD or freeze whenever I play certain games.

At first I thought it was a specific game (Xcom 2) that was doing it, but it has since started happening while playing other games that didn't have that issue in the past (One Piece: Pirate Warriors 3 and Sonic Racing Transformed).

I included the file as requested on the posting instructions.

Note I ran the program today, but I havent had a crash since yesterday so I am unsure if the information will be there? If necessary I can run Xcom 2 for a while to force a crash, but for obvious reasons I would prefer not to if it isn't needed.

BSOD :: Freezing After Upgrade From 7?

Dec 11, 2015

Never once had a blue screen or crash in the years I ran 7, which is pretty surprising given the stress I've put this thing under. After upgrading, my system's locking up constantly and I got my first BSOD last night. look through the dmp for me? Looks like it's a problem with one of the USB drivers, but I'm not sure where to go from there.

BSOD :: Freezing And Crashing Under Load

Nov 11, 2015

My computer has always crashed frequently since I built it a few months ago. I finally did a clean Windows 10 install to see if that would sort it out but it didn't. It appears random. It crashes during resource intensive games, not resource intensive games, browsing, watching a video, or even just idling once every 2 to 6 hours of use. BSOD point their fingers at the RAM (which has tested fine), my graphics driver (the latest), and other things I'm not sure about.

BSOD :: Freezing When Playing Games?

Oct 18, 2015

in the last few days when playing games (BFBC2, BF3 and Sticky Bomb), my computer has been freezing at various points (sometimes within a minute, sometimes after 2 hours), and on reboot i get BSOD sometimes with different error messages such as "system_services_exception".

After the initial reboot BSOD i seem to sometimes get a 2nd BSOD such as "system_thread_unhandled_exception", "IRQOL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL" and other error messages. Occasionally after rebooting I get a freeze just on desktop screen, which never happens unless I have just had a freeze in game.

Before this started happening I have installed a new sound card and installed new drivers for my graphics card. I have since tried taking out the sound card (same problem seen) and also rolling back to the previous nvidia drivers with no avail.

I tried running memtest, but after 2 hours it was only over 50% so gave up for now, but at that point it hadn't seen any errors.

My rig is:

Asus M5A97 R2.0
16 GB Corsair Vengence
MSI GTX 970
AMD FX-8350 4.2GHz
Asus Xonar DGX
Corsair 750Watt PSU
win 10 64 bit

BSOD :: Micro Freezing On Dell XPS 13

Nov 9, 2015

I've just got a new XPS 13 with windows 10 installed on it.

I've got an intermittent problem with micro freezes as I work on it throughout the day. The same thing happens during my scheduled AVG scan which I'm OK with - its when it happens with no apparent reason at all that I'm concerned about.

I've sat simply moving my mouse with my standard programs open (Outlook, Chrome with Gmail, and this forum open, A small Excel sheet, Trillian, SQL Server with nothing running on the only DB) and am experiences spikes in CPU around the same time as the freezes.

In the past I've shut all my open windows down and the issue has regressed but I'm not 100% sure this is a cause it due to the intermittent nature.

what sort of investigation I should conduct to identify this?

BSOD :: Freezing Upon Waking Computer And Booting

Aug 26, 2015

Just to preface this I have not received a BSOD when this happens so I hope I'm still posting this in the correct location. However my laptop just freezes completely and I have to do a hard shutdown (holding the power button until it shuts off) whenever I wake my laptop up from sleeping or even when I cold boot it.

I have checked Event Viewer and I see that I have a couple of recurring errors, the first being:

"DCOM got error "1084" attempting to start the service lfsvc with arguments "Unavailable" in order to run the server:
{08D9DFDF-C6F7-404A-A20F-66EEC0A609CD}"

Wit the second being:

"The Computer Browser service depends on the Server service which failed to start because of the following error:
The dependency service or group failed to start."

However I am able to boot into safe mode just fine, even safe mode with networking and everything behaves normally. I can't for the life of me figure out what is going on ...

I forgot to add that I did the upgrade from Windows 7 originally and had the problem so I figured it might have been an issue with the upgrade itself causing some kind of problem so I did a clean install of Windows 10 Pro on it and the issue still existed afterwards as well.

Random BSOD And Freezing After Recent OS Update

Mar 22, 2016

Error shown is Video_TDR_Failure (NVLDDMKM.SYS). I got that BSOD only one time, every other time the VGA just started stuttering gradually, eventually coming into a halt and then a forced reboot.

I'm pretty sure this was caused by one of the update that Microsoft forces me to install because these kind of problems have never happened before, which you can see here [URL] ...

IMO I think it's because of KB3141032. I could be wrong though

And here's the minidump file: [URL] ...

A clean install of the newest driver doesn't work either.

Right now I've just uninstalled the newest Nvidia driver that I installed in a panic and reversed back to 355.98 (cleaned with DDU) but the damned problem still persists.

Random Computer Freezing - Need To Hard Restart / No BSOD

Feb 10, 2016

Two different scenarios that happens when my computer needs a hard restart

My computer freezes completely (literally no movement on the screen or anything, it's not slow it's frozen). And an extremely loud buzzing sound comes out of my headphones or speakers. The same thing as above except without the loud buzzing noise.

I saw that this happened to someone else who had both the speakers and the headphones plugged in at the same time. However, scenario #2 just happened to me 10 minutes ago even though I only had my headphones plugged in.

I built this computer six months ago and it's the first computer I've ever built. I assume it's a driver issue but I can't really pinpoint the problem since no BSOD appears on the screen.

I'm attaching the zip file required.

Performance :: Not BSOD But Constant Freezing With Drive Spiking At 100% Usage

Aug 28, 2015

Background: For the past few weeks or so I was on W8.1 on my SSD and Arch Linux on my SSHD. However now when loading up Arch I get a { DRDY } error presumably on the SSHD, and W8.1 crashed very soon after logging in. I noticed that sometimes that the computer does not freeze until I open up a game (Total War 2). TW2 had been working fine previously. I would go ahead and reset/refresh my main W10 drive but I'm not sure if that's the issue. I have never gotten a BSOD just a freeze then sometimes black screen with a mouse.

What I've tried: I consistently virus scanned with Malwarebyte's and Defender to find nothing.I hoped upgrading to W10 would fix the issue, but it did not./sfc scannowSMART check (no issues)check Task Manager/used Proc Explorer (or variants) can not see cause of disk usage spike

What I believe could be the issue: I want to say the drives are failing, but I'm honestly dumbfounded.I've read it's possible to the SATA cables.

Tried creating another user account, and so far no issues with the new account. Also added some logs, if more are needed I can add them.

TW2 crashed it again

BSOD :: Desktop Constantly Freezing - Error Also Appears After Restart

Oct 10, 2015

My pc usually starts up in less then 10 seconds. Sometimes it takes up to 2 minutes which then results in constant freezing once it's started. Then I proceed to shut down or restart my pc and after it's 'shut down' it comes up with DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION, then the computer reboots. Error also appears after restarting pc. Also, if my pc is left off for a while and I turn it on, it works fine.

Freezing On Login Screen

Jul 30, 2015

I just installed Windows 10. The install went fine, but now I am at the login screen, and that is as far as I've gotten. I have the option to click on all of the buttons on the login screen, but as soon as I click one, be it hitting enter after entering my password, or hitting the next button, or clicking "I'm not Eric", it freezes.

I can't click anything, the button I clicked stays the color it looks when you press it. I then continue to click until the loading wheel appears, then the screen gets the white haze like a program isn't responding, and then goes black and reboots. I can click on the clock looking image that gives you some options, and I can click and unclick those, but as soon as I try something else, freezes.

System meets the requirements, have a genuine copy of windows 7 ultimate, downloaded windows 10 from the media launched or whatever it's called that you can bypass the wait time for receiving the update. It was from the window site, so I feel comfortable in believing it isn't a fake or anything.

EDIT: When I turn on the narrator, everytime I make a key stroke it says "Hidden", not sure what the entails

Freezing Randomly With No Blue Screen?

Jan 20, 2016

my Windows 10 has been freezing randomly with no blue screen and no event log. I haven't found any discernible pattern in the crashes, whether I am gaming, drawing, or browsing the web, and I have tried updating drivers.

For some reason it isn't allowing me to activate Windows, could this be part of the issue?

Why Screen Is Freezing When In Google Chrome

Installation :: Freezing After First Reboot?

Sep 5, 2015

I have recently been trying to upgrade to windows 10 on a used alienware aurora r3 pc. I got my reservation, checked the windows 10 app every day, and finally, I was ready to get the upgrade, but I'm having issues installing it. After windows update downloads everything and I get to the installation proper, it takes like 4 hours for it to get to about 30% and then finally reboots. I'm taken to a windows ten loading screen, but each time I get to this point, the loading circle freezes. If I turn the pc off at this point and back on again, it reinstalls my normal windows 7 and I'm able to get back to my files and everything, but I still really want to get 10. Solved Build 10041: Freeze on Restart - Windows 10 Forums My issues seem to be similar to what is described in this article, and it may have something to do with it setting "fast reboot" on by default. What do I need to do to resolve these issues?

Blue Screen / Video TDR Failure And Freezing

Oct 5, 2015

I am getting a blue screen of death every time I am trying to play a game. It happens in less than 1 minute. Blue screen, video_tdr_failure and freeze.

I have tried everything, and this is apparently a wide spread issue.

How can this be fixed? My Computer is basically useless for gaming now that I upgraded to windows 10. (I have a gaming laptop from 2014, with fine specs, it is not overheating or anything) .....

Installation :: Black Screen Of Doom But Booted To Login Screen (no Cursor Just Blank)

Jan 18, 2016

I did a bit of research and this seems to have been an issue for a while, or has been in the past. Was upgrading to windows 10, I first had to restart my pc cause it was initially stuck on that preparing to install problem with the green bar being stuck around 25%.

It then got through that and began the installation process with the big circle and rebooting process. However around 91% when I last looked at it it was just black screen, this stayed this way for about 3-4 hours. I then decided to reboot the pc and it has now booted to the login screen. Is this a known bug or could there be a possible issue?

The problem seems a bit different as some people I saw have had to fall back on PC restore points etc. So not sure if it installed or what could be the problem.

Also side note, I upgraded my pc when windows 10 first publically released, but rolled back because I had about 5min shutdown times.

Installation :: Upgrade Laptop With Broken Screen / Blurry Toolbar Black Screen

Oct 10, 2015

I have a Lenovo Thinkpad Edge with an Intel I5 processor, 64 bit with no hardware upgrades (stock). I had accidentally stepped on the screen (fell off my lap and then crunch) which was mangled beyond repair, so I have been using it similar to a tower, with a VGA and/or HDMI connected monitor (my HDMI cable went bad, I picked up a new cable but hadn't hooked it up to the second monitor. I started my free upgrade from Windows 7 Home Premium to 10 last night. I woke up to the black screen/mouse pointer issue which is what brought me to this thread. I tried the recommended fix:

1. Hit ctrl, type in password and enter
2. Win Key + P + Down Arrow. (Win Key + P only seems to do the same thing)

This brought up options to

1. Disconnect projector (Tried this and lost connection to the VGA even after reboot)
2. Duplicate (Screen is still black with mouse cursor, but I saw a little bit of red and blue pixels at the bottom where the task bar should be until I disconnected and re-connected the VGA, then it was back to black screen and cursor)
3. Extend (still black screen and cursor)
4. Connect Projector (still black screen and cursor)

I'm not sure what to do. I must have some OS installed, because I am able to also perform these operations from my USB Keyboard/Mouse. I'm just not sure how to get Windows back on my VGA connection (I haven't tried HDMI because I did not have it connected when I ran the update.) I thought Duplicate displays would do the trick, but apparently not. For as beat up as the laptop is on the outside, the hardware performs fine. I also have a 2nd laptop (work laptop, also a Lenovo W541) that I can use if any solution involves downloading something bootable.

Installation :: Installation Black Screen On Reboot - No Cursor

Sep 12, 2015

Upgrading from windows 7 to 10, started install at around 10:30am and left it....around 2:30pm it started the large circle with the % in the centre, and again left it for another hour or so and came back to a black screen, no cursor or anything.

I waited until about 7:30 and still nothing and did a reboot by holding the power button down. On restarting, I get the windows 10 logo with the spinning dots, and then it cuts to black with no cursor. The CPU light does what it would usually do on startup, and when it first cuts to black but then the screen seems to change to a different black (if that makes sense?!) and the light only blips extremely quickly with a long period before it blips again

i know this is another update gone wrong post but I can't seem to find any with the same problem, just similar ones. I've read it can take a long time, but it's been nearly 11 hours and is very frustrating!

i'm not mega pc savvy, I get 2 options when I boot, and I've looked and there's no option for me to do a safe boot, or to revert back go windows 7. If I leave it on black screen for too long it automatically goes into sleep mode.
