Feb 2, 2016I'm currently running Windows 10 (directly upgraded from 7) on a Lenovo G780. The update in general has been a bit of a nightmare and I've had a number of problems, but now I'm having problems that I'm not even sure are related to windows 10 and my computer is becoming borderline unusable, which is a concern as I use it for work. I've updated all the drivers, and in fact I've managed to temporarily fix some of these problems only for them to come back again. These are the main problems I've been having:
- Start menu is only intermittently working, once it stops I have to restart to get it working again.
- Disk usage in task manager is often at 99%, and when it isn't it's still usually about 50%. Computer often crashes as a result.
- Sound keeps stopping, but in very strange ways. For example I'll be listening to music on itunes or youtube, and the music will suddenly stop, and the timer on the song will stop moving (rather than just the sound muting), it's as if the computer stops attempting to create sound. Again, this is usually only fixed by restarting.
- Computer sometimes won't turn off, for example when I shut it down from the start menu it starts closing all my programmes and then just stops without turning off. If I turn it off manually by holding the button, it starts up again as soon as I let go of the button. V strange. I've had to take the battery out a couple of times.
I've tried lots of solutions from people on the internet, I've scanned with Avast, Hitmanpro, Rkill, MBAM, Spyware, CCleaner etc. I've rolled back to before updates, I've then re-done said updates. I've done driver scanning software etc.
Upgrade From 8.1 Stopping At 32%
Jul 31, 2015I am upgrading from 8.1 to windows 10 on an I7 laptop but when installing it crashes at 32%. I have tried three times with the same result.

Jan 17, 2016How do I stop automatic W10 updates? Every time I have an update downloaded thing fall apart. Either Outlook stops working (Outlook not available try again later) or my Favorites bar disappears and has to be redefined, or like now, my Adobe is all sc.... up and I cannot delete adobe files or access my adobe files when I am travelling and off line. This Windows 10 is the worst mess I have ever seen in 61 years of IT/IS/Data Processing. My next PC will definitely be a MAC.

Update... I have 3 PC's (2 laptops, 1 HP & 1 Dell & 1 Dell Desktop). The Dell Desktop printers are working fine but the printer spooler service on both laptops starts and stops unexpectedly. Tried unchecking fast startup under Power and on one laptop tried LPD Print Service & LPR Port Monitor under turn Windows features on under Control Panel Programs & Features..
Can't Set Taskbar To Auto Hide - What Is Stopping It

Dec 8, 2015my laptop recently did automatic updates and I have been having problems with the WiFi. When I first turn it on every thing is fine, but after about 30 minuets or if I shut the lid and it goes to sleep the WiFi just does not work anymore. I have to go to my network adapter and run the trouble shooter which finds the Windows Wireless Serves is not running on this computer. It starts it and every thing is fine for another 30 minutes or until I shut the lid again. I have looked in services.msc and WLAN AutoConfig is running and set to automatic. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the driver for my wireless card.

Whenever i try to listen to anything on my computer using headphones, i can hear the music/background noise perfectly clear, but when the volume is High, sound stop for 2/3seconds, and couple of seconds sound - and again. Dec 8, 2015I'm having this issue for a few months already. But today I probably made it even worse.
Here is what happens:Until yesterday I had Windows 8.1, and sometimes (One day every 1 or 2 months) I would get a BSOD when trying to play some games. I would get an error on the BSOD saying: "Your PC ran into a problem and needs restart. We're just collecting some error info, and then we'll restart for you."... "If you'd like to know more, you can search online later for this error: VIDEO_TDR_FAILURE(nvlddmkm.sys)"
After that BSOD, my PC would restart. And then I would not be able to start any game. The screen would froze, the game would close, and I'd get the following error: "Display driver NVIDIA Windows Kernel Mode Driver, Version 350.12 stopped responding and has successfully recovered".
By that point I would not be able to play anything else. After getting that problem for the first time (A lot of months ago), I discovered that the only way to "fix" it was to do a System restore to a few days back. By doing that, everything would go back to normal for a few weeks, maybe a month... and then it would happen again (BSOD, followed by restart, followed by games not opening, followed by a system restore...)
Well.. today I experienced the same thing.. BSOD.. restart.. error... tried to do a system restore, and this time it didn't work... So I decided to try something different and updated my Windows 8.1 to Windows 10, hoping it would fix everything..As soon as Windows finished upgrading, I got a BSOD, a restart, and after that I can't open any games... Now I get the same message as before, but with a different driver version (When windows upgraded, it installed the most updated driver I believe)... I had an old version on windows 8.1 because that fixed the problem a few months back...
Well.. right now I'm experiencing the error: "Display driver NVIDIA Windows Kernel Mode Driver, Version 353.54 stopped responding and has successfully recovered".And since I just upgraded to windows 10, I can't really do a System Restore anymore...

Jul 31, 2015New on here a just taken plunge with w10. Not bad at all on this Surface Pro 3.
In windows explorer there is an option what folders to show and synchronise. It used to be that the file 'impression' was there but the actual file on the cloud. It now seems that to have them visible they have to synchronise and this means they actually download to local HDD. All I want is to see the files and when I click on them they come down from cloud and attach to email etc. This particularly important for pictures. Because these and medic are huge I don't 'synchronise as they would all come down locally.
So, how do I see the available files in OneDrive via Explorer without actually having them on hard drive locally.

Jul 23, 2015I can't believe how basic the photo app still is. You still don't even have a folder view. It is damn slow and constantly crashes and doesn't show all pictures. we are one week away from launch of Win 10 and Microsoft still delivers this crappy piece of software. It's unbelievable! What have they done in all the last months?! There was hardly any progress at all! Don't they have enough man-power for this? Even a one-man app-developer should get a better photo app within 2 months!

Jan 27, 2016Today I received a dubious email, from a person unknown, to which a .zip file was attached, purporting to be a copy of an invoice. I saved the attachment, and then scanned it with Bitdefender and MBAM, both of which reported negative results. I then carefully opened (not extracted) the .zip file using SecureZip. There was a single file in the .zip container, which had a .js file extension (Java Script).
I don't have Java installed on my computer, but I took no chances, and used "Eraser" to shred the .zip file that I had saved in my "Downloads" folder and then deleted the email from my In-Box and Trash.
In my Windows 7 days, using Live Mail, I could right-click an email and display its properties to determine from whence it had originated, and other useful information, which was very useful in determining the authenticity, and originator, of the email.
Task View With Dual Monitors
Mar 21, 2015I have a dual monitor setup:
- Main screen, where I work using different applications in different virtual desktops.
- Secondary screen, where another application constantly running in the foreground (e.g.: showing a movie, youtube videos etc.), which I need to be always shown.
When I create multiple desktops in my main screen, Windows also creates the same desktops in the secondary screen.
When working, I alt-tab to move between main screen's applications, which potentially changes desktops.
The problem is that the same desktops are changed in my secondary screen; therefore, my application stops showing when changing desktops.
I was wondering if I can resolve this somehow. For example:
1) Disabling virtual desktops for my secondary monitor specifically
2) Copy application to all desktops (therefore, it shows regardless of which desktop I am switching)
How To Set A Default View In File Explorer
Sep 23, 2015I want 'List', not 'Details'.
I could keep it at 'List' view in Windows 7, but I don't see a setting for that option any more?
Also, I downloaded a program called Explorer Plus Plus, which I love. Is there any way in Windows 10 to make IT my default Folder opener?
Folder View Always Reverts To Details
Aug 22, 2015I want to set all my folder views to List and have set it to be so from folder options several times but it keeps reverting to Details.
And either way is there a master setting somewhere (like default programs) where I can change this?
