I have installed windows 10 a couple of days ago and since doing so I cannot shut down my computer. Every time I try to shut it down the screen goes black and it stays like that until the battery runs out. When the computer sleeps the same thing happens.

I did a fresh install of windows 10 and everything seemed to work fine. After installing updates (mostly windows 10 updates and two nvidia geforce 650 drivers - not sure why there were two of them) my PC does not shut down. Before the updates, I had two options: restart/shutdown; now I have three restart?shutdown/sleep. When I click on restart or shutdown, nothing happens.
View 1 RepliesI recently installed windows 10 in my computer, but i got a problem : my computer does not fully shutdown when i click the shut down button in the start menu, it just closes apps, screen turns black, but the pc is still on and i can say this because keyboards lights are still on (power one, wifi one) and i am forced to press the power button for 5 seconds to force a shutdown and then turn it on again. I searched on internet some solutions and the most common problem seems related to the fast startup feature.
View 9 RepliesI click the windows10 icon and option comes; shut down. I press that one and I see stars going round the circle but computer doesn't shut down.
Overnight it remained same. Next morning, I had to shut down manually.
Didn't have this problem until upgrading from Windows 7 Pro. Not sure if it is related to the upgrade. I can shut down but sometimes will immediately restart and other times will restart after some time. I have used device manager to disable any hardware option to wake my computer. No yellow exclamation icons in device manager. Otherwise computer runs fine.I hate to have to unplug my computer everytime I shut down.

View 6 RepliesI have recently built my very first computer, and for a few months the computer worked fine and everything but one day my computer didin't power down and i had to force it and since then this happens i try to shut down the computer it starts to turn off and for a brief second the LED on my front fan turned off, then the computer rebooted. . I have been pushing the switch on my power supply to turn off my system,, it also happens that i some times lose time and date for some reason.
I had this problem with this build in windows 7 and then I changed it to windows 10 but it also happens in windows 10
My build is asus motherboard Z97-P i have a intel I5 4460 a XFX XTR full modular 550W or 650W not sure and a nvidia gtx 970 .. I tried to reset my BIOS settings and the problem stayed unsolved... This problem is really annoying and also prevents my computer from installing updates...
It turned on from a complete shut down.

Its a Lenovo pc recently upgraded to Windows 10 from 8.1 but it didn't occur directly after the upgrade.
Ever since I upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10, I've noticed on many occasions that it takes very long to shut down. Just yesterday, I waited around 4 hours before finally deciding to shut it down by pressing and holding on to the power button. It was just showing the "Shutting Down..." with a blue background throughout the entire time I have waited.

View 2 RepliesSo, recently I left my computer on overnight to download something, I did this multiple times before with windows 7, and everything went smooth. This time I woke up and my computer was turned off, but I live alone, so nobody could have turned it off. I turned it on again to finish the download and went on doing something else. After that, my computer turned off again. I already went into the settings and sleep is not on, and the screen also doesn't turn off. I also went into advanced settings, and I still can't find anything to be causing it.
View 1 RepliesStarting today, every once in a while my computer will shut down and show the new blue screen of death, which shows the sad face and it says how it is collecting information. However the image is always at 100%, doesnt fill my entire screen, and is pixelated. Honestly it just looks like a picture ripped off google. Which makes me think it is a virus.
View 1 RepliesI'm having a myriad of issues after upgrading to Windows 10. I'll list them below along with what i've already done to resolve:
- Computer won't shut down.
Someone told me to disable something with the Gigabyte process on the Motherboard, didn't work. I click on shut down and the computer restarts instead.
- No sound except EXTREMELY low sound on headphones.
I've already tried installing the Windows 10 Realtek HD drivers but nothing seems to work. Eventually I somehow got the headphones to play sounds but is is incredibly low even fully maxed out. All devices show that they are "working" correctly. Also, when I test it, I can see the green bar moving as if sound is playing, but no sound in any speakers / headphones I hook to the computer comes out.
- Less important issue but the "search" bar in the bottom doesnt ever return any results, ever. It just sits there indefinitely.
My computer suddenly shut down, after restart the computer, Chorme can't open. The error is like the screenshot.
I google the result, someone said uninstall all current Microsoft Visual C++ installations, i have never install Microsoft Visual C++ installations.
I recently I was attempting to upgrade my OS to Windows 10. In the middle of the process my computer shut itself off. I was attempting a manual install of the OS, as described on [URL]... . I managed to completely finish the download before the computer shut off. Is there any way to continue from where I left off? Without restarting the download?

View 2 RepliesI've looked at your forums and instructions on clearing the cache, etc...but still have no luck in downloading applications. They go into a queue and are listed as "starting download" but don't go further. I've rebooted and cleared the cache which will clear the queue but when I try again the same thing happens.

I go to install new AMD drivers as well as my Logitech drivers for my G400s mouse and my computer freezes.. cant move cursor, can't ctrl-alt-del - I've tried a million times.
My PC is not OC'd.
I have an ASUS UX303ln with a clean install of Windows 10 in UEFI boot mode. It seems that: when I turn off the computer it turns off the screen and fans, but stays on, consuming an unusual amount of energy (in about 30% of the cases it actually turns off properly)When I hibernate the computer, same thing happensWhen I put it to sleep, in about 60-75% of the cases it won't wake up, instead it will just enter this high power mode with screen off, mentioned in the first bullet point.
These issues persist, even after turning off hybrid sleep, fast startup, hibernation, changing over to CSM boot, trying to downgrade/update drivers for Intel Bluetooth (which sometimes was stopped by windows due to not being Windows 10 compatible), the Management Interface, and Intel and Nvidia drivers.
My computer is a Toshiba 64-bit laptop.
I had a job running last night, downloading stuff from the internet. I knew would take approximately 30 hours to run. It ran most of yesterday and I had hopes I would wake up this morning and it would be finished.
Windows 10, in its infinite wisdom, installed updates and restarted my computer during the night. My job was ended and I had to restart it this morning. I can't run anything else that accesses the internet while this is running because it slows this job down too much. So now I have another day or more of not being able to do anything else on the internet.
How can I stop the updating and restarting of my computer? It is my computer, I should have control over that.
When I restart my computer, ie after installing an update, it hangs at the restart screen and I have to press power button to reboot system.
View 3 RepliesI am running windows 10, and have just upgraded from an Nvidia geforce gtx evga 670 2GB, to a Nvidia geforce gtx evga 980ti hybrid. But now my computer wont shut-down properly, what happens is I click shut-down and windows 10 shut-downs (black screen), but then my fans on the computer are still running. I can restart the computer fine it just won't shut-down properly, also nothing is showing up in event viewer for kernel-power.
My system specs:
Case: Thermaltake level 10GT
Motherboard: Asus sabertooth z77
PSU: Cosair 1200
GPU: Nvidia geforce gtx evga 980ti hybrid
CPU: Intel core i7 3770k ivy bridge
Sound card: Xonar D2X asus
SSD: 120GB corsair neutron ss
Hard-drive: 1TB
This computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing this software , I am trying to install a modded driver for my Intel G41 Express Chipset but im getting that error .
View 3 RepliesSo, first up, was getting crashes with my windows 10 after installing nvidia driver 359.00, mostly crashes that recovered automatically, then started getting Blue Screens. Tried 359.06 and had the same problems. Rolled back to 358.91 which originally had been stable but after the rollback became crashy, but less than the other 2 drivers.
Had a HARD crash while playing Dragon Quest Heroes, rebooted from that and could not boot into windows whatsoever. Had to pull the card, use the motherboard video, removed the nvidia drivers entirely. I can boot into windows as long as there are no nvidia drivers while using my GTX 670. While attempting to reinstall any nvidia drivers with maybe 5% of the green bar on the installer showing it goes black screen, sits for a bit, then reboots. BIOS looks fine, windows splash comes up, not the password screen, black screen there. Tried what I could find to put the password in and get past he black screen but nothing happening.
Is there a problem with my card or my windows install? I'd rather not buy a new card but its always a pain reinstalling windows if I don't actually have to. how to export all my windows settings if I do need to reinstall.?
Fresh built PC only about a month old. Runs amazingly but for some reason when I want to turn it off, it will not shut down and I need to hold the power button to shut it off. I'm afraid of eventually damaging components by shutting it down this way. Sometimes it works just as it should and others I have to hold the button to shut it off. Sometimes it will go to the swirly "I'm shutting down" screen but will just stay there until I hold the power button. My power button is setup so 1 press should shut it down, but when it's not going to Shutdown the power button does nothing unless I hold it to shut it off.
