Cannot Upgrade Because Of Partition?

Dec 31, 2015

A few months back I upgraded my primary hard drive to an SSD, samsung evo 850. I copied everything over using samsung migration and now there is a system reserve partition that I never noticed before,

Well, I finally decided to do the windows 10 upgrade from windows 8.1 but the partition wont allow it to happen.

Am I safe to delete that partition? I'm not entirely sure what it is.

Partition After Upgrade?

Sep 14, 2015

After I upgraded to Windows 10 I noticed it created another hidden partition. I upgraded from Windows 7 Ultimate 64 to Win 10 Pro 64. Originally Windows 7 had a 100mb System Reserved now it's showing a unnamed 456mb partition. Do I need to keep these? Seems Strange.

I have another PC i clean installed Windows 10 only made the 450mb unnamed partition not the 100mb one. Seems no need for that one? I wanted to go back to 7 but was over the 30 days seems it all deleted to go back

When I try to upgrade my Dell XPS 15 running Win 8.1 to Win 10 I get a message "we couldn't update the system reserved partition", I only have an EFI system partition, not the 100MB DATA partition I've read about.

I've attached my disk management layout.

1.6TB Of Unallocated Partition Showing After Upgrade - Inaccessible

Aug 3, 2015

I just performed an upgrade from win 7-64 to Win 10. I had a 128GB SSD with the OS installed and a 4TB Seagate drive broke into two partitions- F and H drives at 2TB each. These were both application partitions only. After the upgrade, only one partition showed up (F) and the (H) is gone. The F drive now shows 1.6TB of unallocated space which I assume was the H drive. Drive manager doesn't let me do anything with it.

Shut Down During Upgrade - Recovery Partition Is Also Corrupted

Jan 16, 2016

I accidentaly shutted down the Lenovo Yoga tablet 2 8" Windows 8.1 during Win10 update. The system won't boot and I don't know what to do. Recovery partition is also corrupted.

What I've tried so far:

1) Install clean Win10 x86 Home copy using Microsoft Media tool - Windows will be installed, but touchscreen, sound etc. doesn't work. Windows Update is unable to find and install those drivers

2) Install clean Win 8.1 x86 Enterprise copy using Microsoft Media tool, then in repair mode try to switch Windows.old Windows, Users and Program Files with current system - doesn't work, the system won't boot and everytime I try to boot the system, it tries to repair system. Without success of course.

Download Windows 8.1 with Bing x86 in hope the system will be in the same condition as I bought it. I also hope it will find required drivers.

Installation :: Upgrade Makes Huge Recovery Partition

Sep 25, 2015

My Dell venue pro 11 tablet comes with a 32gb inbuilt space with windows 8.1. Then I got the free windows 10 upgrade which went smoothly.

But now the problem is after the upgrade there was very little space left in my Cdrive. The recovery partition takes up 6.5gb of space. I thought of deleting it using a 3rd party software.

I need to free up that space, currently i have 11 gb free space, adding this would give me 17 gb.

Upgrade Error From Win 8.1 - Couldn't Update System Reserve Partition

Aug 8, 2015

System stats...Athlon 860K, Asus A55BM-E, GeForce 550Ti, 8GB Ram

Win 8.1 was installed from retail DVD onto a virgin 500GB mechanical HDD. I upgraded shortly after to a Samsung 840 EVO 120GB SSD and cloned the mechanical drive over, tested, and then formatted the mechanical drive for data. I got some real strange (to me) drive partitions - 100MB 'Data' drive which is almost full (cannot access) and a 350MB 'System Reserve' drive. The mechanical drive is a separate letter and all seems to work swimmingly. I sort of assumed this was normal.

Upon installing WinX I get the above error...from what i've read, people are having challenges moving from Win7 due to the fact that this reserve drive is only 100MB and it needs to be 300-450...well, mine's 350mb so not sure what gives.

Partition Became Unallocated

Jan 31, 2016

Interesting start to the weekend with Friday evening booting up my pc to find that Thursdays overnight update had left my partition drive unallocated. Read around for a few hours and found that reinstalling my acronis virtual disk driver would be the way to go. All seemed well and then there was another windows update and again the beyond the 2TB partition was gone. This time there is no fix with reinstalling the virtual disk driver and I don't want to mess around and wipe the perfectly good partition that Windows 10 has decided is not a fan of.

Can Delete Any Of Partition

Jan 10, 2016

There seems to be far too many recovery partitions and then some. This PC came with windows 8.1 but I upgraded to windows 10 a few months ago.

I also wondering if the proper recovery would take me back to 8.1 again or would it do a fresh install of 10. I hope it is 10.

Installation :: How To Partition A 6TB HDD

Nov 23, 2015

I have a new system running under Win 10 on which I want to use an SSD as the boot drive with all my s/w and a WD 6TB Black HDD for my data. However, when I format the 6TB drive it shows up as two unallocated segments, one of 2048.00 GB and the other with 3541.03 GB. The smaller one is available for a simple partition under Win 10 Disk Management, but actions for the larger one are all greyed out. When I make a simple partition in the smaller one the option to extend the partition is greyed out. What is the secret to using the full 6TB under Windows 10?

Does Not Find The Recovery Partition

Mar 5, 2016

My Vaio laptop came with a built-in recovery partition (it's 'bout 32GB and hidden). Sometimes I use it to reset my PC back to factory conditions due to unexpected errors. But yesterday I was shocked 'cuz Windows Disk Management showed that my recovery partition was empty! When I checked with different third-party apps they showed the partition had 'bout 27GB in use. In fact I couldn't boot into Vaio recovery mode anymore.

Reformatting Old OS Drive Partition

Jan 12, 2016

Just cloned Windows 10 system disk from 230 Gb SSD to 900 Gb SSD using Acronis. New system drive works fine. Trying to remove the OS partition from old OS drive and get "OS (E Simple Volume is currently in use" and statement regarding forced deletion may affect application that is using this partition.

Is there a "safe" way to remove the OS partition and/or reformat the drive or should I disregard the warning? Note: It's connected directly to a socket on the Mother Board (a Dellism) so not sure about remove and external format. Acronis has a "disk clean" utility, but it's a DOD wipe, so not sure of its use here.

Drive Partition Is Missing

Dec 11, 2015

So here is my issue I had Windows 10 installed on my Asus which I had Upgraded from Windows 8. However lately my computer was running slow and unresponsive at times. I figured I would do a Factory Reset and start new on it to try and fix these issues I was having. However when I while in the process of Reseting my Laptop the reset had failed. Now when I turn my laptop on it just sits at the black screen with the Asus Logo. I have tried many solutions to this such as hitting delete prompt and resetting my start up settings.

Deleted Recovery Partition?

Sep 7, 2015

I have an HP laptop that shipped with Windows 8.1. I upgraded to Windows 10 weeks ago and tonight I accidentally reformatted my D: drive recovery partition.

I have recovery media on a USB pen drive that I made back when I first set up my computer.

Has Windows 10 changed the D: recovery partition during the upgrade or will it be the exact same image the computer shipped with?

how I can get the recovery files back on the D: partition?

Chose Partition To Boot From

Jul 23, 2015

A few months ago, i made a dual boot of Windows 8.1 and Windows 10. Now I was running out of memory on my Windows 10 partition, so I removed Windows 8.1. I was unable to add the free space to the Windows 10 partition because this free space was before the 10-partition.

So I decided to clone W10 to the free space using Easeus disk copy. (Successfull). Now i wanted to boot the clone, remove the old one and add the free space to the cloned W10. But i am unable to boot the clone. I can't chose the partition to boot from. What went wrong? there are 2 identical partitions with W10. How I can solve this without reinstalling everything?

Couldn't Find Partition

Jan 18, 2016

I was trying to install windows XP in a dual boot with Windows 10, so I created a 40 gb partition and tried to install Windows XP onto it. When I booted up the Windows XP install disk it couldn't find the partition I created because the partition didn't have the proper ntfs header that would have given the drive a Letter (like how the C:// drive is). I then tried to boot back into Windows 10 to use disk manager to format it, but since i inserted the Windows XP disk, Windows XP already overloaded Windows 10's bootloader. So basically i could boot anything. I tried to format the partition with gpart, didn't work... Kept formatting ntfs but without the letter. Tried using Ubuntu, kept giving me errors... I still can't boot into Windows 10 because windows XP overloaded the Windows 10 bootloader. And I can't install XP (on the separate partition ) because it isn't mounted with a letter. The only way that I found to fix this is to find a way to install XP (<--- that's the part I can't do ) then to use a special software on XP that will let me have a multi-boot system, and will fix the Windows 10 bootloader.
