Drivers/Hardware :: Boot Manager Missing And System Repair Not Compatible

Sep 3, 2015

My situation is that after a recent issue with my user profile going "missing" (I think) I thought do, do you know what I'll just reset my system and start over. But windows 10 would not reset. Instead I grabbed the windows 7 disk to reset that later hoping to install windows 10.

I was having problems with my Kingston SSD so I installed it onto my HDD and later on tried to clone the HDD to the SSD and then format the HDD so the OS ran off the SSD. I have clone the 2 drives but haven't formatted the HDD. I tried booting the SSD but it comes up with the BOOTMGR IS MISSING! I find a solution which is to reset the bootmgr using the code "Bootrec.exe /rebuildcd" but I can type the command in due to not being able to access the system repair.

This system repair issue says that the disk is not compatible meaning I cannot enter to the other options to get to the Command Prompt.

No Boot Manager On Dual Boot System

Oct 9, 2015

Today I installed Windows 10 on my machine (ASUS N55SF laptop) for the first time on a separate hard drive. Now I have Windows 7 on my main hard drive and Windows 10 on my new drive (the latter being an SSD one). After installing Windows 10, I got a new boot option in my BIOS called "Windows Boot Manager" which is set as default, but it runs Windows 10 directly, I can't see any boot manager (I can assure "Windows Boot Manager" behaves this way because my BIOS lets me override the boot option, so that I can directly run any boot option, and this is probably the only way I can run Windows 7 currently).

If I go to Start → Advanced system settings → Startup and Recovery → Settings, I only see Windows 10 in the "Default operating system" drop-down menu, while I only see Windows 7 if I do this while on Windows 7. It's like the two OSs are not completely aware of each other.

CD / DVD Drive Is Missing From Device Manager?

Aug 3, 2015

When I updated my computer from windows 7 to windows 10, all of a sudden I don't seem to have a CD/DVD drive anymore. It shows up in the BIOS but not on the actual computer. I have tried to make sure the computers all plugged in correctly and it is. So what can I do to resolve this issue, and if there are so many problems with windows 10 why on earth allow have of the entire population download, especially when MICROSOFT should have thought of all the bugs and fixed them ahead of time. Its not fair to offer free upgrades, when its essentially a downgrade?

Remote Access Connection Manager Service Missing?

Oct 18, 2015

after recently downgrading and then upgrading back up to Windows 10 I experienced yet another problem. Now I have no remote access connection manager service. This was discovered by a technician via live support trying to create a VPN connection.

The other problem I have is installing virtual machines. Here are a couple of screen captures with the error messages here:

I don't want to resort to doing a complete clean re-installation of Windows just yet. Furthermore I also did come across [URL] and was wondering if that would bring me back to a normal functioning Windows 7 as even downgrading from Windows 10 in the past seemed to have caused some problems.

Unable To Boot At All Or Repair

Feb 7, 2016

I found my laptop was stuck in some loop, it wasn't able to boot up and offered me to automatically repair it, however it doesn't solve anything and I've tried doing a full system reset to it however the same problem occurs still, it just doesn't boot and offers to restart and try to repair again or more options. I have tried different commands such as the SFC, CHKDSK, but got no where.

Laptop is Windows 10, Asus k501-U, i7 6500u, 12gb Ram, HDD 1tb + 16 gb SSD ...

When I do start up repair I got this message a few times: 'Start up repair couldn't repair your PC...

Log file: C:WINDOWSsytem32LogfilesSrtSrtTrail.txt

And when you do CHKDSK (I think) end error message is 'Failed to transfer logged messages to the event log with status 50'.

Infinite Loop On Startup Trying To Repair System

Aug 25, 2015

This afternoon my wife was doing something on the computer, got stuck, and rebooted. Once she rebooted a screen popped up into a repair diagnostic screen and said it was diagnosing the error to repair it. Only problem was that it didn't repair anything and the options that were available were all tried and nothing fixed this infinite loop issue. Luckily, I backed up my system with Acronis TrueImage so as we're speaking my PC is being restored. Windows 10...

No Boot Up - Windows Repair Loop

Oct 30, 2015

I have a booting problem with my Windows 10, after having it for two months. Few days ago after turning my PC on, I had a message Starting Windows Repair, after some time it shows me the same screen with text - Diagnosing your PC. Then after having a black background, a light blue screen appears with error 'Your PC did not start correctly', it gives me options to restart it again or to open on Advanced options. There are so many of them, I tried all except the one with Restarting PC and deleting files, all the others, including Safe Mode won't work. I am stuck now here and can't use my PC.

Yesterday my computer started up the automatic repair service when i turned it on. It attempts to diagnose the problem and fails. I've run chkdsk on both the boot and regular partitions of my install drive. I tried to repair using an install disk but it says it cant because my install drive is locked. I also tried resetting from within the recovery environment. When I did it got to 8% and then said it couldn't reset the os as it encounter a problem during the reset. Windows won't boot, and it also won't repair install, refresh, reinstall (Windows 10), chkdsk, boot repair etc. I have tried all these so unless anyone can think of anything else I will have to do a clean install and upgrade. I suspect the hard drive has failed though.

Repair Error - USB Boot From BIOS?

Oct 25, 2015

I turned on my PC and got a Windows 10 error saying my PC needed to be repaired. I can go into the BIOS menu but I don't know what option to choose to reinstall Windows 10. I have it downloaded from the official website on a memory stick but I am thinking of buying Windows 8.1 from Amazon cause I do not like Windows 10 and want the full version. I would go with Windows 7 but I don't know what is and isn't legit on Amazon. I do not want an OEM version since I may be upgrading my PC and will want to reinstall Windows if I have to once again.

The Operating System Variation Is Incompatible With Startup Repair

Jan 11, 2016

I have a laptop that was a Windows 7 Home Premium machine (HP dv6-2150us) that had an Windows 10 in place update performed on it a few months back (Nov 5, 2015). It had been running fine but recently had been randomly crashing. Two days ago, it crashed again and would boot to the "Startup Repair" mode attempt to run, then tell me "Startup Repair" couldn't repair your PC. and endlessly loop through that (if you told it to reboot) unless I went the Advanced Options.

I tried accessing Safe mode with and without networking, but not luck. I can get to the command prompt.
At one point it out of the blue it displayed the path to the "SrtTrail.txt" file which apparently is the log train for the "Startup Repair". The screwing thing is I check the date/time on the log file and each time the "Startup Repair" runs it does update the file whether it displays it on the screen. So apparently it could be random whether MS lets you know where to look for clues. Yeah MS!

Any way the I looked at the "SrtTrail.txt" and it states that the following pass.

"Check for Updates"
"System Disk Test" "
Disk Failure Diagnosis"
"Disk Metadata Test"
"Target OS Test"
"Volume Content Check"
and the Root cause found "The operating system variation is incompatible with Startup Repair"

I did a bit of Googling and found others with the same problem : [URL] .... But they did not have success in reviving the Machine

Any way of resolving the issue that would leave my programs intact? Is it as simple of having the correct BCD entry? If so, what the BCD entry should be the entry for a Windows 7 box that had a Windows 10 in place upgrade done?

The current entry in the boot record is

osdevice: partition=E:
Systemroot: windows
resumeobject: {3c5d113c-777-11e5-82d9-8199ff9a6bfc}
nx: Optin
boomenupolicy: Standard

4. I did chdsk on all drives.

5. Even though I've restore points, it says no restore points found.

System Restore Crashed Now Endless Auto Repair Loop

Apr 13, 2016

OS - Windows 10 (64 Bit)
RAM - 8gb
CPU - Intel Core i5 3.3Ghz
Vid Card - Nvidia GeForce GTX 570

Yesterday I had deleted a Word document by mistake, so I used System Restore to try and get it back.  System Restore told me NOT to turn off the PC whilst it was running, and next thing I know after it got halfway through my PC blue screened and I had to restart. Now every time I load up the PC it does the following...

It loads up to the Windows 10 icon  >  After a few seconds it says 'Your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart' with the error code 0xc000021a  >   It then restarts itself but THIS time it tries to start Windows Automatic Repair instead  >  It then says 'Automatic Repair couldn't repair your PC', and gives me the option to click Restart or Advanced Options.  This is where I'm having the most trouble, as the mouse and keyboard don't seem to be working at all on this screen so I can't even click any of the options.  It's like the screen has frozen/crashed  >  The only way off this is to then force a restart using the power button on the PC.

The above just keeps carrying on in a loop every time I turn on the PC now.  I still have access to the BIOS where my mouse and keyboard DO work.

Recovery Drive Boot Fails With Missing Boot Configuration Data

Feb 2, 2016

When I try to boot from a recovery flash drive, it fails with: EFIMicrosoftBootBCD error status: 0xc000000f and message: The Boot Configuration Data for your PC is missing or contains errors.

The recovery flash drive was created on a Lenovo ideapad originally with Windows 8, now upgraded to Windows 10, latest upgrades applied. Checked the box for copying system files. Target drive was a 16GB DataTraveler flash drive formatted as FAT32. Creation ran to completion with no errors. When booting normally, Windows 10 runs fine with no issues. I tried re-creating the recovery drive with the same results.

I created a repair disk and tried to use bootrec to fix the issue, but I suspect it did nothing or fixed the c: drive. I ran boot rec while in the root directory on the flash drive.

Cannot Get To BIOS From Windows Boot Manager

Sep 14, 2015

I was playing with disc partitions and i accidentally deleted something... The problem is, that when i start my computer, Windows boot manager error appears (with no options, nothing, just some text about how should i reinstall / repair...), but when i start my computer, i have no way to access BIOS (I know how to access bios in my pc, I was accessing it like 20 times during last few days while installing various OSs... always with F2).

So actually I am stuck in a loop: start pc - cant access bios - windows boot manager error- restart - cant access bios - win boot manager error - restart....

With windows, i had problems with accessing bios before, but it could be solved by some kind of "absolute shutdown" of a system - holding shift while clicking "Shut down" - then i could easily enter bios with F2 during start.

Installation :: Deleted Boot Manager Along With Cleaning Old HDD

Dec 20, 2015

My windows is not booting the m.2 ssd. I bought a new laptop with a hdd. Bought m.2 850 evo ssd and installed it.Installed windows 10 on it without removing the hdd. It was loading fine but i noticed that the boot loads the previous hdd before continuing to the ssd. Tried deleting the hdd from msconfig boot and that didnt work.

Still in the bios i only saw "windows boot manager HDD" under the uefi bbs boot priorities. But it recognized the ssd in storage information. All that and i even tried cleaning with diskpart the hdd ( the big mistake ).So i now got no boot manager now. And ssd is not loading. Is there a way to fix it without reinstalling windows ?

Keystroke (s) To Enter BIOS / Boot Manager

Jan 7, 2016

I have a Linx 8 tablet running Windows 10, and despite several hours of web/forum trawling I cannot access my BIOS settings to view my boot manager, either through the Settings/Restart method, or in Safe Mode. I can get to a screen that lets me choose between either UEFI Settings or Boot Manager (by holding the power and the volume up buttons together at start up). Selecting the UEFI option takes me to the expected prompt, but choosing Boot Manager just starts Windows as normal. I simply cannot access my Boot Manager; I have disabled Fast Boot.
