In Windows 10, whenever I insert a USB or External HDD, it gives me two listings for it in the Explorer pane:
Is there any way I can remove the second listing? Preferably the standalone one, as I'm used to it being under "This PC", muscle memory y'know.

View 4 Repliesevery time I double-click a folder in Windows Explorer, it opens in a new window. I know there have been problems on this in earlier versions of Windows.The ONLY time a folder opens in a new window, is when the folder is located in the PICTURES folder. On some occurrences, the folder I'm clicking is opening twice.
Another strange thing I noticed, is when I delete something. When I used to delete something, the folder would automatically update and remove the file without me needing to do anything. View 1 RepliesI have Windows10 with dual monitors. When I start Windows the taskbar on Monitor 2 is visible and won't move. If I turn Cortana on and off it resumes auto-hiding but I have to do this every time I start Windows 10.

I have a program xyz which has installed and put a short-cut on the desktop.
I have drilled down to C:ProgramDataMicrosoftWindowsStart MenuPrograms and 'yes'... there are my programs, but they do not appear in All Apps listing.
Since I do not want to have the shortcut on my desktop, I want to be able to get to it through All Apps, I am a bit non-plussed, never had this problem with W7.
I just upgraded my win 10 10240 to 1511 10565 but where is a listing of activation commands.

View 4 RepliesI need to replace the personal.xlsb file to my Excel XLSTART folder on my C: Drive but I do not seem to bore down to XLSTART using file explorer. If I go to this pc and choose C: then Users, then my user name I get only such things a Documents, Favorites, One Drive, etc. I need to get to AppData and then bore down to XLSTART. how to get C: completely?

I need to use the drive letter "F" for one of my external hard drives, but need to get rid of the phantom F drive first. How I can remove the "drive"?
When I right click on a drive in explorer to get properties/use tools like defrag/disk checker it is crashing explorer. I have already done a "repair" install of 14257...I had 14257 installed already and essentially did a reinstall of it using an ISO image. I have done SFC/Scannow a dozen times and that isn't working either.
View 2 RepliesI have a NAS (WD MyBookLive) which cannot be accessed in Windows Explorer on my brand new Surface by IP address (or name- though that doesn't work on any of my devices for some reason). I can access the config page in my browser by IP, and two other Win10 devices on my network can access the NAS by IP in Explorer fine, and I can access other devices on my network by IP fine on the Surface but for whatever reason only this computer can't access that NAS in Win Explorer.
I just got the Surface yesterday and was able to access the NAS fine, the only thing that's changed is I renamed the device and restarted and since then haven't been able to connect. I've restarted both the PC again and the NAS but no change.
My new windows 10 only sees my PC - when searching for my files in Explorer, it cannot 'see' my two external drives when I plug them in. I've looked in Device Manager and they are not showing in there either. How can I tell Win 10 to access my external drives?
I thought Win 10 would automatically spot my external drivers the moment I plugged them in? Then it would go search for and install the appropriate drivers - but it isn't doing that..
New computer with Windows 10, will not show the floppy disc drive in File Explorer after plugging in. Floppy disc IS in the disc drive when plugging into the computer; then when opening File Explorer, no disc letter or item is shown for this drive. How do we make this work?
View 14 RepliesToday,my laptop was awfully slow. When I booted it up it would say "Scanning and repairing D: drive 100%" but this didn't work with anything. When I went to "This PC" to see my D and C drives, my C drive was perfectly fine and it was showing how much GB it has left (___ GB free of ___ GB) but for the D drive it didn't show how much GB it has left. When I try to open it, windows explorer folder would not respond. The green bar which shows your progress of loading the folder (I don't know how to explain) would keep going and even if it reaches the end, D drive wouldn't open. Most of my games were in my D drive and now my laptop is really slow. It takes like 1 minute for chrome to start up.

One of these problems is my disk drive will not play or run any disks I insert into it. In the file explorer, the disk drive is not present in the "Devices and Drives" section. However, It is still present in the Device manager.

View 1 RepliesI am a video director. I have numerous 1TB drives, USB 3. They are formatted with ExFAT. Files are typically large: 50Gig and better. Worked and readable fine in windows 7. Could read, write, edit with them. But not in Win10. Plug it drive, it is recognized. But once you start to click files, computer freezes. Happens in at least 2 different different Win10 computers, one upgraded, one original install. If I open an application first, like quicktime player, can see files, run them, rename them, copy them. But in Explorer: freeze/crash.
View 4 RepliesI recently got an SSD, with my old HDD set as a storage. I was trying to move the quick navigation folders on the left of Windows Explorer from the SSD to the D: drive (HDD).
However, with the 'My Music' shortcut, I accidently moved it to just the D: drive, rather than a folder within the D: Drive. This means the 'My Music' now directs me to straight to the D: drive, and when I try and move it, Windows says access is denied.
When i try opening a folder, an error pops up. That's because cmd is my default action when double clicking. This all started after installing some Windows 10 updates. how to get rid of cmd on my context menu?

When I plug in a USB memory stick OR a USB external drive - the device shows twice in the directory. As I type this, I have a USB external hard drive plugged in. The directory list shows 2 entries 'E Drive' - when both are expanded, each has full details of the disks content!
View 4 RepliesI use a HP laptop & since the last few days I am not able to open any files or click on something since the left (main) key & double tap on the mouse pad are not working! Although I am able to move the cursor/pointer over the touch pad & the right click is working fine as well! I searched the entire internet & nothing seem to work! The last thing I remember doing that might have caused this problem (earlier everything was working fine but sometimes touchpad used to get stuck) is hitting the fn+f5 button that I read in this thread Touchpad not working for windows 10.
View 9 RepliesI have four systems, each with a regular+cyrillic keyboard and have been using them for years with Windows 7 & 8.1, switching between the two formats, without a problem. As an aside, a couple of the systems, having bought them in Bulgaria, have non-English messages but the few that occur, although annoying, I have tolerated.
Now, having updated one of the Win 7 systems to Win 10 and having tweaked language so, at least at the user level, I get everything in English, I have a strange situation where the " key will not produce the character until another key is pressed. It is the only key that reacts like that. I'm not sure if the tweaking or Windows 10 itself is the problem.
