Dec 31, 2015I have a Lenovo P580 laptop. The screen wire got shorted out, so I just always connected it to a TV and never really had a problem. I recently upgraded to Windows 10 from 8.1. After getting that issue with the start menu and cortana not working, I tried the make another profile, etc stuff from the internet. I changed my laptop to always load into safe mode using command prompt... NOW, every time it loads up, it loads into safe mode... only problem is I can't see it or do anything because the output for my tv doesn't work.
So... I bought a new wire for the laptop screen... nothing. Bought a new screen... nothing. So I assume the motherboard is damaged... The HDMI and VGA ports worked up till I set it to boot into safe mode...
Is there anything I can do? short of replacing the motherboard?
Boot Up Stop With A Black Screen Showing ACER And Nothing Happens
Feb 26, 2016Installed win 10 with no problems and it has been running successfully for a good while. Recently I have had some booting problems, not all the time but every so often the boot sits there with a black screen showing ACER and nothing happens. If you sit long enough it will boot with no other problems. I tried looking at the boot section and switched it to normal as it was on something else which I cannot remember.

Sep 24, 2015Sometimes, when I shut down or restart Windows 10 64-bit, just before the screen turns black it makes the critical stop sound effect. It does not effect anything, the whole shut down process is like 3 seconds, which I really like in Win 10.
Nevertheless it bugs me a bit, I also had this sometimes in Win 7. I'm not running any programs while shutting down, it would notify me if I did.

I have tried sc stop MSIServer from the command prompt as administrator and get error 1052 requested operation is not allowed. Dec 14, 2015I'm on the latest Insider build. I don't want my PC to sleep nor the monitors to sleep nor the hard drives. Unlike most other issues with sleep and Win10, my problem isn't waking it up but keeping it awake.
Microsoft seem to have scattered the sleep options all over the place. I methodically worked my way round, starting in Settings where I can quite simply select no sleep for both the computer and the monitors. Simple? Nope. I found relevant settings in these places:
Right click desktop and choose display settings
Also from display settings choose advance power settings
Control Panel Power Settings
Change Plan settings
Maybe these are all links to the same settings but in any event whichever route I take, the PC still sleeps or the monitors still turn off or both. Or the screen saver kicks in.
I wonder if the UEFI bios is over-riding Windows? God knows but how can I keep my PC awake overnight

Nov 26, 2015At the urging of the popups from MS urging me to upgrade to Windows 10 ads I ran the compatibility test the results of which assured me that my computer was compatible with Windows 10. I then upgraded and started using Windows 10. I had all sorts of problems after that. I contacted the manufacturer of my system (DELL) and they told me that they were not supporting my system with drivers for Windows 10 and that I needed to pay a fee to their tech support for restoring my system back to Windows 7 for a stiff charge. The DELL tech spent hours using Remote Assist and the telephone to restore Windows 7. After restoring Windows 7 I had lost a lot of important documents and spent hours solving all sorts of remaining problems. I now have Windows 7 back and running well but I am constantly subjected to those annoying pop ups urging me to download and install the Windows 10 upgrade. How do I get rid of those?

Aug 5, 2015OK. So I downloaded and installed Win 10. I found it to be very unstable on my laptop, freezing, going to a black screen, etc. So I rolled back to Win 7. However I now get a popup every 10-15 minutes encouraging me to move to Win 10.
I'm not ready to do that yet (again). I want to wait a few months until they have had a chance to resolve all the issues that have been found. So how do I let them know to stop the popups? I will upgrade when I am ready to do so.

Oct 30, 2015Again today, when cleaning cookies and trying to find where the pop-ups came from I traced it to IE.. Well I do not use IE nor do I use Edge which is constantly running. I still love Firefox and Chrome.

1. Go into "C:WindowsSoftwareDistributionDownload" and delete everything in that folder.
2. Now, run the command prompt as an administrator. Type in "wuauclt.exe /updatenow".
3. Go to your Control Panel > Windows Update and your Windows 10 should start re-downloading from scratch
Windows Update is stuck at 98% download of 2,085.1MB and won't stop downloading as I have task manager on. It's been over 4.2GB download and I'm afraid to stop it.
