Every time I try to reinstall Windows 10 it always hangs when I have to input my time zone, no keyboard inputs or mouse registration however keyboard and mouse works on BIOS, this is the screen that I get stuck at:

I am currently using windows 7 64-bit.
I downloaded windows 10 from the ms site (the automatic icon never appeared on my pc), and am using the media creation tool.
All goes fine until 'Getting Updates', when it hangs on 'checking for updates'.
I have tried playing with the settings in Windows update, but suspect the problem lies in there somewhere... my windows 7 was recently proving unable to install all its updates also. I've tried various solutions for that but no luck.
Is a clean install the answer?
I'm upgrading to Windows 10! But it hangs on this part... How to speed this part up?

New Dell XPS8700. Upgraded from Win 8.1 to Windows 10 and worked fine for about a month.
On start-up, it now hangs on the Dell logo or when trying boot options to start from USB or recovery DVD go to blank black screen. Dell phone support sucked but they sent me a recovery USB drive (to factory set Win 8.1), however start-up would still hang at the Dell logo. Tried all different boot combinations from CD/DVD, USB, OS/Boot partition but cannot proceed beyond Dell logo or black/blank screen. I do not have a original Windows 10 OS disc, however did a download from

Used an original Windows 7 Ultimate installation CD to start and get to command prompt to recover files from C: drive and can browse through all folders and files. Copied user data to USB drive. So HDD appears OK.
Upgrade went OK, went back a few days later to download the ISO, ran media creation tool and made all my chorces, english,win 10 pro,x64 bit, selected iso and place to save file. then blue screen comes up and programs states, "getting a few things ready" and that's it, nothing else happens after that, 1hr, 4hr's 12hr's, still both the back and next boxes are grayed out and little dots going in circle. had to use task mgr. to end task no other way to close window. I have done search over the net and at microsoft for this problem, found nothing. done SFC it came back clean. Win 10 is activated.

Windows 10 x64, from DVD loads the blue window and then nothing more. Have to switch off/on to get out of it. From USB - nothing, just blank, some HD activity and then nothing, ctrl/Alt/Del restarts
i have had windows 10 installed on m,y pc since july 30ish....and ever since i upgraded to windows 10 from 8.1 the pc has been locking up every time i try to do anything...something as simple as opening my documents causes the pc to use 100% disk too the point i have to reset......i was hoping i could install windows 8.1 since i still have the key by using the upgrade assistant but when i tried to run it it said "this system is unsupported" and i have tried everything i could think of to fix the 100% disk issue nothing has worked
View 5 RepliesI was running win 7 (64bit) pleasantly but decided to install Win10, did all the needed stuff for getting dual boot setup.Win10 booted fine, when selected from dual boot menu, but I have many issues on win10, Lenovo laptop is begging for mercy on win10 for many things, my android phone gets disconnected every few seconds if I use youtube, laptop becomes sluggish. USB3 will not install, which worked in win7 earlier.

What I want is to run win7 setup which has SP1 integrated and still be able to boot in win10 if I needed later.I have activation keys for both provided by my office which is based on volume licensing.
I just did a fresh install of Windows 7 and activated the key, then i installed all of the latest updates. I then downloaded the media creation tool x64 to install windows 10 and when I get to the key activation my key doesn't work.

I have reached the step where it restarted then a big circle came up with three parts under saying like "Copying Files" and other two things. Then, suddenly it restarted and only a black screen was there. No cursor, sounds, screen. Now I am installing Windows 10 again but fearing the same will happen again. This is NOT a black screen at the log screen; I have not even finished the installation yet and get a black screen.

I tried restarting as it advised, however, when I tried it again it still said the exact same thing. I also tried deleting the setup tool and starting over again by re-downloading it, but I still get the same error message.
Why I cannot run the windows upgrade setup from my USB (G:setup.exe). It is always showing me this error "Use the other installation disc that says 64-bit. When you insert it, Windows Setup will restart automatically."
I also heard that for many people it worked when they run windows setup from "G:sourcessetup.exe" (G: is my USB drive). But when i am trying to open the file it shows Shows setup screen for a few seconds then pops an error "This 32-bit version of Windows cannot be installed to an EFI-based computer. Installation cannot proceed. Use a 64-bit version of Windows to install to an EFI-based computer."
I am trying to run this setup on my HP laptop (Preinstalled: Windows 8 Single Language 64bit) via bootable USB of Windows 10 Home Single Language. I download the Windows10.iso image file via MediaCreationToolx64.exe and created a Media USB disk to install the operating system on the same laptop.
Bootable USB is running setup if i boot my laptop with USB disk. But it will force me to install a fresh Windows 10, which i don't want to. I want to upgrade my current Windows 8.x.
I am sure that i've downloaded correct 64bit version of Windows even i have Windows 10 AIO 32bit/64bit ISO image. Same errors showing in this ISO image too. If i run the "G:sourcessetup.exe" in my PC (which is running Windows 8 64bit) then it runs the process without showing me any error. Why it is happening with laptops only? I also tried to run setup from same USB in my another Lenovo Laptop (which is currently running Windows 8.1 Single language 64bit) but no luck it shows the same both errors.
I tried to upgrade my mom and dads laptop and when it finally began upgrading it got stuck doing the privacy settings on first boot after upgrade. I figured it was stuck for good so i forced it to shutdown. Now when booting it goes back to upgrading at the last og the 3 steps and is just stuck there with 0%.

View 1 RepliesI was invited to download/install Windows 10 and I followed all the steps to download the files. Then I clicked to install it and it seemed to be doing it. Windows closed down and the computer restarted, but when it opened again it was still Windows 7 and there was a box up relating to Windows upgrades that that said the 'latest upgrade' had failed, and there was a button to click to download Windows 10 if I wanted to (again?!).
I don't know where all the files are that were downloaded and what I should do. I saw a suggestion somewhere that firewall/antivirus software can be a problem. I have Bitdefender, that doesn't allow you to disable it.. I suppose I could remove it completely before trying again? But otherwise what should I do? I don't want to download a lot of duplicate files again.
As I stated in the subject line, Windows 10 setup, whether using the regular update method, running the ISO from within Windows, or using the Media Creation Tool, only asks for product key and there is no option (button) for 'Upgrade'.
This may sound confusing so I want to make it clear that I am NOT trying to do a clean install on a system that hasn't been activated yet. I'm talking about the very first upgrade install. It won't work.
A couple of days ago I DID see the 'Upgrade this PC' (or something like that) and the install started but failed due to the ever popular Pentium G3258 CPU problem. There was advice all over the 'Net that all you had to do was disable one of the CPU cores in the BIOS and the install would complete just fine.
So I disabled the core and tried to start the install again.
Now the installation procedure won't even begin. It just sits there. It says 'Product key" in big letters and "Windows isn't activated on this PC. This means you'll have to enter the Windows 10 product key below or exit" and the only two buttons are Back and Next, both of which are grayed out.
I thought maybe the Windows 10 installation files were corrupt or something so I wiped the system and reinstalled 7 from scratch (Oh yeah, that was really a fun part of my day) and re-downloaded and used the Media Creation Tool again and selected (whatever it says) to begin the upgrade installation and now it's still doing what it was before, asking for a product key instead of running the upgrade installation.
I want to make it clear one more time because I'll get TL;DR answers such as "You can't do a clean install, you have to do the upgrade method first so Windows 10 can generate your hash and activate":
I am NOT attempting to do a clean install. I'm trying to run the initial 'Upgrade' method. I fully understand that you can't do a clean install without the upgrade being completed first. Why it's asking for a product key instead of starting an upgrade installation?
I hope shortly to receive a "pre-owned" Dell M6800 laptop with a 128GB Solid State Disk (SSD) and a 750GB HDD.
It comes with 8.1 installed (shudder) and I will upgrade to 10 immediately as I couldn't tolerate 8 or 8.1. Once I've done that, I'll need to transfer all my applications and data (which will be tedious I know unless there's some trick or clever tool/application to do it).
Aapart from the OS what should go on the SSD, and what on the HDD. Looking at my current system, the Windows directory plus Program Files, Program Files (x86) and Program Data run awfully close to 128GB, so this isn't quite as simple as Windows & Apps on SSD, with everything else on the HDD and use junctions if necessary to point to data on the HDD.
It gets thru part of the set up and I'm getting an error box that says Modern Setup Host has stopped working. I give up. I was hoping a repair would keep my app and docs, but I guess that option is not working. At some point I will do a clean install, if I can, I just don't have the patience to reinstall all my apps and stuff.
View 2 RepliesI've done the upgrade on my 2 computers and then later I did a clean install on the laptop. What I'd like is to do a clean install on my desktop PC but I sure would love to bring back the things I setup when I did the upgrade such as the start page and desktop screens. My start screen is perfect and I hate to set it all back up from scratch if there is any way to keep it somewhere and return it.
I will say, the clean install has always been my preference with any version of windows and it certainly made a nice difference in many ways on the laptop that I've already done both the upgrade and later the clean install.
I grabbed the install.esd from the upgrade from 11102. Created an ISO using DVD and USB. However, I get this "setup cannot continue due to a corrupted installation file". Tried going back to 11102 and repeated the process three time. Still same thing. (I have grabbed the install.esd file before and after the installation but it didn't make a difference. I'm trying to do a clean install by the way. Otherwise I just have to live with the updated OS.
View 3 RepliesI have the Get Windows 10 App but I couldn't wait for it as I have limited internet access. I downloaded the 64-bit Media Creation Tool after selecting the option to download for this computer and when I ran it the first time, it started downloading the Windows 10 setup file. I lost connection about 19% in, download started back up and I left it overnight. Didn't see how it finished but I couldn't find a new file on my computer for Windows 10 Setup. All I had was the MCTool file still. So I ran it again and got a pop up saying 'Setup couldn't start properly. Please reboot and try running Windows 10 Setup again.' I restarted my comp and it didn't work. I've tried deleting the MCTool and re-downloading it. I get the same thing. I'm not sure how to get it to work again.

View 3 RepliesI've repeatedly attempted this, but always get "An error occurred during setup. Restart your computer, then run setup again". This is an all too typical message you can find associated with many Epson products.
I've tried:
-Clean boot
-Safe mode (install enabled)
-Using an Epson removal tool I finally obtained after my 5th chat with Epson.
-An Epson fix deleting temp folder and looking for setup.exe that never appeared.
-Manually removing all Epson folders and registry entries I can find.
-Disabling firewall and AV
The same CD installed ok on my 6 year-old laptop (both run Windows x64).
I've run SFC /Scannow - ok
At best, the scanner is recognised as being connected when plugged in, and appears with a yellow trangle under 'Other Devices' in Device Manager.
