Installation :: Changing From 32 Bit To 64 Bit Home Version

Nov 7, 2015

My sons computer has a legit copy of windows home but for some reason the installed version was 32 bit, I noticed later that the machine was x64 bit processor.

I installed windows ten prior to noticing the version, I would like to change it to x64 bit, I read a few threads on converting, I downloaded the x64 ISO and burnt it to a DVD.

I am not concerned about wiping the drive clean everything needed has been removed and copied.

I read about skipping the key as it is being installed and that a key would be issued by Microsoft based on the hardware of the machine.

I am curious, would the key for the original 32 bit installation be the one that would be inserted in the x64 bit install or would a different key be issued?

Drivers/Hardware :: Home Version - Print Manager Not Installed

Dec 23, 2015

I was installing a new printer on a Windows 10 home computer today in an office. The other PC's I upgraded to Win 10 from 7, no problems. This PC is a relatively new one that came with 10 pre-installed when they purchased it. When installing the new printer a couple of the pc's (including this one), had a duplicate entry (I am thinking they must have tried to install it themselves at some point and failed, though they hadn't told me that).

On the other PC I was able to go into 'print management' and remove the duplicate entry, then reinstall and everything is fine. On the "new" PC however, 'printmanagement.msc' is completely missing. I tried bringing it up with the searchbar first, it didn't find it. So I went via the admin panel and there was no shortcut. Launching from cmd line did nothing. On the other computer I was able to find 'printmanagement.msc' in the system32 folder, but on this computer it is not present in that folder at all.

I did some searching on MS and Google, and only found instructions for installing the snap-in via Windows Server 2003/2008. How I can (re)install this component on that PC using Windows 10 Home? It seems odd to me that would be missing in the first place. Perhaps this is an easy answer and my GoogleFu is weak on this occasion, but I couldn't find any references to not having printmanager present on a native Windows 10 install. I didn't turn up any kind of download for it on the Microsoft site, but as I said, perhaps I'm just "missing" it.

I just realized I should have tried an sfc /scannow, but didn't think of that until I was writing this.

Preserve All Personal Files And Settings When Install Home Version

Feb 9, 2016

My PC has Windows 10 Pro installed on it but it's just a 1 month trial version. I ordered Windows 10 Home for it but I'm wondering if I will get to preserve all my personal files and settings when I install it. I'm going to back it up just in case either way, but it would be nice to know if everything is preserved or not.

Installation :: Updating To Version 1511 After Clean Installation Using MCT?

Jan 11, 2016

For those people who CLEAN installed Win 10 using the Media Creation Tool, will it automatically update to Threshold-2 (version 1511 Build 10586.36) through Windows Update once installation had been completed? Or does that have to downloaded separately?

And what is the "KB" Number for version 1511 Threshold-2?

Also, within five minutes of starting using my computer, the start menu stopped working. I have tried all the fixes I could find for the start menu including sfc /scannow and multiple powershell fixes. None of them worked. When I use the windows 8.1 install disk it, I get a message saying that something happened, setup has failed to determine supported install choices. Windows 10 is difficult to navigate and always seems to be missing some software.

Installation :: Extract Single Version From All-in-One ISO

Aug 29, 2015

I have a Windows 8.1 PC with UEFI BIOS. I am going to upgrade this Windows with Windows 10. I downloaded the ISO because recently I formatted this PC so inorder to get the free upgrade is a long way! Unfortunately, the ISO I downloaded is an All-In-One type and is about 4.8GB, So for the UEFI to boot the flash drive, it needs to be FAT-32 but since the install.wim is more than 4GB, that won't work. So instead of downloading another x64 bit ISO which would take about a day in our area. I need to know if I can extract a single version i.e. Windows 10 Single Language x64 from the All-in-One ISO?

Installation :: Media Creation Tool Did Not Generate Current ISO Version?

Feb 10, 2016

Yesterday I decided to download WIN 10 Pro 64 bit with the media creation tool to generate an ISO file as I needed to do a fresh install on several machines. I had assumed that I would get the current 1511 version but I got the previous 10240 version . Now I know that MS pulled this November update after a dew days of release but then re-instated again on the 24th Nov. My broadband speed is "pathetic" so I had to download the 1511 upgrade once the initial installation was finished. This meant 18 hours had to elapse and I will still have to download the TH2 upgrade on every machine--will stick with Win 7 !

why I got the old version of Win 10 ?

Installation :: Will Media Creation Tool Create USB Installer With Version 1511?

Nov 15, 2015

I am running Windows 10 Pro x64 that I installed as a full version (not from the free update, I purchased the full edition from Microsoft).Whenever I get a new OS I like to do a clean install so I used the Microsoft Media Creation Tool which I downloaded from this page. I used the Media Creation Tool to install the OS (wiped and created new partitions, installed the OS, etc.).

Now with this nightmare update they just released (Version 1511) I am having SO many issues. I would like to do another fresh install of this new version. If I use the Media Creation Tool again to create an USB installer will it contain this latest version (i.e. I won't have to go through the whole update process again)? Or does the Media Creation Tool only create a USB installer that contains the "base" operating system which will required updates all over again? If not, how can i create an installer for Version 1511 so that I can avoid the pain of updating?

Installation :: Home Will Not Install - 0xc1900101 - 0x20017

Aug 17, 2015

I have Win 10 installed and activated on one computer - Asus z97 Deluxe/USB 3.1 mobo - but it ABSOLUTELY refuses to install on another computer - EVGA z97 Classified mobo. Regardless of the method - and I have tried all I know of - I ALWAYS get the same message: "Installation failed 0xC1900101 - 0x20017 The installation failed in the SAFE_OS phase with an error during Boot Operation".

All bootable win 10 USBs and DVDs refuse to boot. Out of desperation I even purchased Win 10 Home (which means I simply purchased a too expensive key. I was extremely disappointed that no different software came with with the purchase. Some of the solutions I have found are so difficult I might have been able to write a C++ program that would be much simpler.

Installation :: How To Change USB Stick From Pro To Home And Vice Versa

Sep 4, 2015

there is one thing I do not unmderstand when creating a USB Stick using the Media Creation Tool: I can have both flavors, i.e. x64 and x86 on one Stick, but not Home and Pro, why? I thought this is simply a flag that can be set.

My task: I have to update several PCs with one USB Stick, running former versions of Windows of all kinds, i.e 32 and 64 Bit, but also Home and Pro. Do I really need to create two sticks, one with Home, one with Pro, or can I change that somehow in a configuration file on the stick?

Installation :: Unable To Clean Install From USB On Home Build - Boot Loop

Sep 19, 2015

I just build a new machine with a Gigabyte B85M-D3H mobo, Intel Pentium G3258 CPU, 4GB Corsair Value Select DDR3 1333 and 120GB Samsung EVO SSD. I now want to clean install Windows 10 Home (64-bit) from USB drive (created with media creation tool), but the machine is stuck in boot loop. The Windows logo appears for a few seconds and then the machine reboots, I don't have clue where in the boot process something goes wrong.

I already tried with a usb stick with Windows 8 installation files and this starts without issues. I made sure Fast boot en secure boot were disabled but without success. Also already reset the BIOS with optimized settings.

The stick boots till the first screen on different other machines.

Installation :: Upgrade Insists On Changing The OS Language?

Jul 29, 2015

Currently running w7 Pro OEM Eng.

I just tried to update to W10...BUT it simply opens up the install dialogs in FINNISH and says I can only perform a clean install and not keep my settings and files because the OS is different language than the one to be installed (Finnish).

how do I change the install language to English - I assume it just checks where I am and assumes everyone here wants a Finnish OS as force-feeds it to me. But a complete clean install just now is a big no-no, so I want it to install it in English instead.
