After installing Windows 10? It works great, but will not turn off. I close it and it is still running and I can't get it to start back up until I remove the battery and plug it in.

I have a strange problem in my laptop. Yesterday I charged my laptop to 100% in the night and when I woke up in the morning the laptop was showing red light indicating the low battery. I wonder how the battery drained so quickly overnight while the laptop is shut down?! And this is not the first time its happening, I am facing this problem after I upgraded to Windows 10.
View 24 RepliesJust since my Win 10 upgrade, if I plug in the charger the screen goes black. Then I unplug, it comes back on! I have played with the power settings, not much to rave about there, except one thing I barely caught a glimpse of. In the Additional power settings, at the bottom is the brightness control. When I plug in the charger, the slider goes all the way to the right. Is that not backwards? Anyway, what will fix this so it can be posted somewhere (like here) so people like me can find it.
View 1 Repliesi had my HP Pavilion dv6 7050ca laptop for 3 years now and it was working perfectly until today...I put in my battery (I usually only run my laptop with power cable without battery) and unplugged it to go downstairs to work. After I was done, i put it to sleep, brought it back upstairs and replugged in everything (headset, mouse) including the power cable and once I woke up the laptop, it became insanely stuttery, from the windows 10 interface to the mouse cursor to games to web browsing to everything! Everything still opens fast but it is just the movement of things: mouse cursor, gaming, web browsing, videos, etc. I already tried shutting down and taking out the battery and running it with only power cable like I used to, reinstalling graphics drivers, restarting the computer, unplugging nd re plugging, nothing seems to be working!

View 2 RepliesI upgraded my laptop from Windows 7 to Windows 10 recently. The laptop battery is now draining 20% overnight when the laptop is shutdown and unplugged. With Windows 7 the battery drainage was negligible (even over a week). The laptop is a Lenovo Thinkpad Type 1143-3FU. The Thinkpad has a red light which glows while on. After shutdown it now flashes a few times after shutdown before stopping (rather than just going out) which indicates to me that something is still running, but I do not know what. The laptop battery is good. The computer does not appear to be hibernating because when I start the computer it shows the Lenovo screen first thing.

Today when I tried to reset my laptop my battery died (I got up to 29% on the reset), because somehow my charger got unplugged. Now when I turn it on I get to the Logo (asus) then get a black screen. (I have tried taking the battery out and pressing the power button for a couple seconds and I got nothing) I don't know what to do!
How can I enter the "choose an option" screen, the blue one. I can reset there. I chose continue to windows 10 and now I keep getting black screen after logo. is there like hotkeys to press while turning on?
I recently had an update on my windows 10, on 3/14/16, and after that my laptop would not shut down, it will either stay on the shut down screen, or the screen turn off, but the laptop will be on, as well as the fan. I have tried different things to fix this but it won't work.

View 4 RepliesI have a HP Pavilion 15 laptop that I bought in January this year. I had no problems with this laptop at all until I updated to Windows 10 and still don't for the most part.
When I attempt to shut down, hibernate or sleep my machine it goes to a black screen with the power still on, meaning I hold the power button down myself to switch it off (which is not good for it) or wait until it runs out of battery (also not ideal).
Since I've upgraded to windows 10 a couple weeks ago, I've come to notice in the last couple days that when I press shut down from the start menu, typing shutdown -s -t 0, etc. it does not completely shut down the computer. It starts to go through the process, it says it's shutting down, monitors turn off, but the power light stays on and it just restarts. I have only gotten it to shut down correctly about 85% of the time through the login screen and pressing and holding the power button (which I know I should refrain from). I am completely up to date on windows. I have not made any hardware changes since my upgrade to 10.
This issue has also now come up on my Lenovo G50 laptop. Same shtick, says it's shutting down but ends up restarting, never shutting down completely. I also have since reverted to Windows 7 on my desktop and have no issues. I have unchecked the hybrid shutdown box on my laptop.
I'm running Windows 10 Home on an ASUS Q551LN 2-in-1 laptop which originally came with Windows 8.1.
When I shut down/restart/sleep the machine, it does not shut down - the Hark Disk activity light is still blinking and the normal power button press does not work. If I do nothing, it remains in this state for hours. I need to press the power button for 5 seconds to reset it. Only then I can start the laptop.
This happens around half the times. The other half it works normally. I never had this problem with the OEM 8.1 on this machine.
Based on other threads - I have the latest Windows 10 updates, and disabling fast boot did not solve the problem.
When I go to Start -> Power -> Shut down, it displays the "Shutting down..." window, then the screen goes black, but the laptop won't shut down completely. That is, the WiFi, Bluetooth and Power (light bulb) indicators are still on (and the battery indicator too if plugged), and I have to force (power button long press) the laptop to shut down. I can also shutdown the WiFi and Bluetooth devices using the keyboard at this stage (with FN button). And if I keep the laptop this way long enough (unplugged), my battery will be completely drained.
I recently disabled Hibernation (cmd admin -> powercfg/h off) so I suspected it to be the culprit. So I enabled hibernation again (cmd admin -> powercfg/h off) and my laptop was shutting down as it should. I then disabled hibernation again and the problem came back. I also figured it might be something to do with my power plan so I reset it (Power options -> Change plan settings -> Restore default settings for this plan),
This happening right after i instal 10 on my laptop. Its about 5-10 mins after my laptop sleep then its shut down automatically.. And i believe there is nothing problem with power & sleep settings.

View 1 RepliesEver since I installed the latest "service pack" of Windows 10, my start menu doesn't work and my battery doesn't charge. I've found work around for the start menu creating links on my desktop to my personal start menu and the all users start menu. For now, I just need to leave my computer plugged in. I've fixed the plugged in not charging in the past. But in the past, I've always had a laptop that has a removable battery. This laptop doesn't. But since all this is due to the major upgrade of 10, seems like there has to be a simple or common fix.
View 4 RepliesIf I use "Start->Power ->Shut down" when I finish a session the computer hangs shortly after next start up and I have to press and hold the "On/off" button on the CPU until it shuts down. Then when I start it up again all is Ok.
I have now resorted to pressing and holding the "On/off" button on the CPU until it shuts down at the end of each session i.e. I ignore the "Start->Power ->Shut down" feature which I am told is not a good thing to do!
I mean this happens every one or two shutdowns and startups.What happens is when I try to shutdown, Windows appears to have shutdown. Screen is not detecting anything (Because technically nothing is running) but the only difference is, my entire computer is still running. I am not sure how this is possible but I can confirm this is a Windows 10 unique problem.And now consecutively, after this 'incorrect' shutdown. When I try to boot up, when it gets to the Windows loading spinning beads screen, the computer shut's down abruptly. And I have to boot it up again. This sort of things happens every few cycles and is 100% identical to the last one.I have tried a clean windows 10 install (Formatted my SSD) and the EXACT same thing occurs.I also cannot update to the latest update as it gets to a certain percentage, around 20% and restarts with a message saying it couldn't complete the update and it is undoing changes.
All the outlined problems aren't critical and are definitely unique to my computer. Because I have Windows 10 on my other machines, and they can update and do everything just fine thus far.

On my desktop PC, ugraded to 10 on Friday morning, been using all weekend no problems. On Monday we had a winter wonderland, was checking snow history when electricity went off momentarily. PC shut down. I had perhaps 5 wiindows open at the time.PC powered back with message that windows had not shut down properly, it would repair, said it couldn't do, and since then will only start , and say restoring your previous version of windows....over and over again.
I got on this laptop,downloaded correct 32 bit version of 10, burnt disk from iso. can boot into that disk no problems. Have run all the recovery options. Reset - no changes made. Repair startup - no can do. Restore previous - cannot do either to 10 or 7. have run out of options. Even attempting the last thing I want to do, Install, does not work.if I choose upgrade option, it tells me to remove installation disk and start nnormally which I cannot do.

I'm about to buy the HP Star Wars - Special Edition (15-an050ca) Notebook. It's running Win10 home edition.
My question is: Is there a way for me to remove the Star Wars content safely while it's new. I just don't want the SW stuff to clutter up my computer.
I've got a little issue, whenever I plugin headphones (usb) I dont get sound and the sound is still going through speakers, I didn't had problem with this until the latest update on Windows, its really annoying cause everytime I want to switch to headphones I need to restart my PC. Yes I checked sound settings, the headphones are there when I plug them, there's just no sound.
