When I want to open a JPG file, a list pops up to choose what program to open it. I select the one and there is an additional choice to always use the selected program automatically. I check that also. However it still pops up with the 5 or 6 program choice window when I click on a JPG file. How do I get the choice to stick?

Just purchased the following computer [URL] .... and have been experiencing quite a few errors already. In addition to many programs' icons being small and almost unreadable (seems to be due to the Ultra HD resolution), I've noticed that every time I open an Excel file, it not only opens that file, but it also opens a blank workbook as well. This has never happened to me on any previous computer or previous version of Excel and googling the issue has been futile thus far.
To be clear, I'm totally fine with Excel opening a blank workbook if I just click on the Excel shortcut on my taskbar, but I do NOT want Excel to open up a blank workbook when let's say I'm opening up a spreadsheet for a financial model.
As the title says, the start menu wasn't opening so I ran SFC /scannow that found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them. I then ran RestoreHealth but I got a message saying, "Source file cannot be found". I restart, Start Menu works again but still have corrupt files after an SFC scan. I recently did a clean install of Windows 10 after some non-related issues. CBS log is attached. I'm having trouble determining the problem from the log file.
View 4 RepliesI upgraded to Windows 10 from Windows 7 ~5 days ago. Since then, Powerpoint 2013 opens/works fine, and saves/opens new files.
But any Powerpoint 2013 file that I work on on a Windows 7 machine or that a colleague sends me from a Windows 7 machine appears with an error message. "Powerpoint found a problem with content in xxx . PowerPoint can attempt to repair the presentation. If you trust the source of this presentation, click Repair." If I click 'repair', then it simply tells me it cannot open the file. (To be explicit - if I then open the file on a Windows 7 machine, it still opens fine.)
Troubleshooting:
- I have tried to repair the file - nothing happens
- Both versions of PowerPoint are PowerPoint 2013
- This applies whether pptx or ppt file
- I have tried 'quick' and 'complete' repair without success

View 2 RepliesSince the latest windows 10 update a couple of days ago, I get time-outs when I try opening .jpegs .mov's and so on. About every third time I double click a file, the system just loads and after about 10 seconds I get a time-out message (in German: Der Wartevorgang wurde abgebrochen) and I am unable to view it.
I did several restarts, updated drivers but still same problem. as a filmmaker, this is very annoying to me!

I have 2 problems:
1 - Windows 10 does not detect my Samsung Galaxy 4. It works with other devices like mp3 players, and my phone charges perfectly. But windows simply does not find it.
2- When opening gifs or videos (with default player, others work fine) I get this error: File system error (-2147416359)
This is a clean Windows 10 Pro 64-bit install on a home-built system (ASUS Sabertooth X99 with an i7). When attempting to open graphics files (JPG, GIF, etc) this is the error that pops up:

In windows 7, whenever you clicked a folder or file there would be a "click". I kind of liked that sound so how to enable that in windows 10 and what the sound name is.
View 1 RepliesI've been having this issue for about a week where any time I try to upload a file in Chrome or open a file in Photoshop CC, explorer will crash the program. It happens any time I try to navigate to another folder. If I leave the initially loaded folder open everything is fine and I am able to upload/open files from that folder. Explorer itself doesn't seem to be crashing, just the program that is bringing up the window. windows 10, chrome and photoshop are all up to date. Saving is working fine. Dragging and dropping a file when available is working fine. I've tested the ability to navigate folders and upload/open files in Firefox, Google Sketchup, Clip Studio Paint, and paint tool sai, those programs are working.
View 1 Replies3 days ago I was exploring an older hard drive. When I tried to explore the desktop folder of that drive Windows Vista, it wouldn't open. It suggested that i shared the folder so I could explore it or copy files from that folder(which is what I originally wanted to do). When I did, the folders on any drive stopped opening. When I try to open any folder, it flashes white and returns to the desktop.

When I turn on my laptop the"normal" picture screen opening appears showing the correct date / time.
Any action to open the log in screen or any key press results in the log on screen showing for about a half second followed by a blank screen with only the cursor arrow showing.
About a minute later the picture reappears.
I have been using WIndows 10 since they released it and one issue has been plaguing me since then. Whenever I leave my computer and come back after some time i will notice apps are opened sitting in my taskbar. The main apps that do it are Photo and Calendar.
I don't use those apps for either photo or calendar things and I am not even signed into Windows 10 with a MS account.
But every hour or so, these apps open up and hang out in my taskbar. I have even removed them from default apps and uninstalled what I could but no luck.
When I click on the Calendar app there's a brief flicker then nothing I cannot open it
View 2 RepliesI know this has been asked previously. I am working on a single user Toshiba laptop. Recently upgraded to Windows 10. Now none of the apps are opening. Tried the fix listed. There was a link to install bUT I cannot get to the Internet so I am unable to use the link provided. This machine came with pre-installed software so I cannot downgrade back to Windows 7.

View 1 RepliesEven when using disk cleanup in admin account it will say deleted but after restarting and going back into disk cleanup they are back.Even using Windows app they come back after deletion.On another note system restore doesn't seem to work , i did a system restore and even though i got the message that system restore completed successfully after i rebooted my screen was frozen and i had to do a system refresh to get it up and running again.I have been waiting for it to delete my temp files for 8 minutes already.

View 8 RepliesI made clean Windows 10 (build 10240) install five times, and five times after some time my Start menu had vanished. Simply it doesn't open neither by Win key nor by mouse click on Window icon. Now I won't go into 6th clean install as it is clear that after a while Start menu would disappear again. So this is not way to go.

In the meantime between working and non-working Start I didn't make any radical system changes nor user hacks to system so the problem is all the more surprising for me. Any way that would bring my menu back (since without it the OS control is significantly diminished) or maybe someone other had met the same problem (on final build) too.
How do I reenable back the 'Always ask before opening this file' security popup for a .js script file? It is normally executed by Microsoft Windows Based Script Host.
While it is annoying for everytime I double-clicked it instead of right-clicking it to edit the code, disabling the security popup would mean that the script would try to run and this is not really good..
I'm having trouble opening folder within folders. For example, I can open any folder on my desktop but when I try to access any folders within that folder they show me this message;
For now, I transfer any folders I need to access out onto my desktop. By the way what the pop-up even means....
I have recently installed and have two profiles on laptop. One for my daughter and one for me, both login using Microsoft account. My daughter can open app store, but when I switch to my profile it wont open at all.

I wish I could go back to WIndows 7 but am over the month where it allows you to which is very annoying as Windows 10 seems very unstable.how I am to get my apps working again I have researched the internet and tried some fixes (including Powershell again) but to no avail The apps do not work - not in the start menu or in the all apps section.
I have been unable to open the money tile since converting to Windows 10 (it opened once for a day and then stopped). I click on the tile and the program appears in the start line but it won't open.
