Performance :: Computer Starts By Itself When Shutdown?

Dec 1, 2015

Just Yesterday upgraded from 8.1 to 10 with out any problems. But, Unless fast start up is disabled, windows will start by itself a few minutes later after I shutdown. Did not have this problem before with 8.1.

Always had fast startup selected, matter of fact, never had to worry about it, had no problems when shutting down, it stayed off until I turned it on. Now since upgraded to 10, the only solution so far to stop the computer from starting up by itself after shutdown, is to disable fast start.

Laptop Randomly Starts Itself After Being Hibernated?

Sep 3, 2015

I recently noticed that whenever i hibernated my laptop, after a few hours when i would go to open it, my battery would be completely depleted even though i had it on full charge when i hibernated it...

A few days later i found out, or what i thought was happening, that the laptop wasn't hibernating..Some times it would, sometimes it wouldn't..

Today i found out that the laptop does hibernate, but randomly it boots itself up after a random number of minutes..

First it boots up to the windows logo, then fades to a black screen, then powers off, and then in 5 seconds, it starts again, this time completing the boot and getting me back to how i left the laptop when i hibernated..

Computer Starts On Its Own After Complete Shutdown

Nov 16, 2015

I recently upgraded from windows 8 to windows 10. but ever since I have a problem. I shut the computer down (start bar, power and shut down) and at some point a few hours later the computer starts up again on its own but I haven't changed anything so can only pin point it to the upgrade.

Security :: PC Starts And Runs But Nothing On Monitor At All

Jan 15, 2016

My PC is a home build with ASUS mother board, XENON CPU and 16 GB of RAM; it has run flawlessly for two years on Win 7 Pro; I changed to the "free" Win 10 dwnld and everything ran smoothly for past 3 months. Started up today and "no screen" with the typical bios info and nothing but darkness. I'm not sure if this is a virus security problem since my past experiences all had screen feed back with bios access prior to Windows starting. Assuming some villain attacked my PC at its heart by somehow messing up the bios set up, I tried restoring any lost or corrupted files using a flash drive with the ASUS ROM file on the MB disc as well as a latest downld. Still no relief. If not a security matter or a Win 10 fault, perhaps the mother board failed at some innocuous point which allows the board to function with all fans running and using power. I thought the NVidia adapter card could be at fault and installed a tested spare with no change in lack of video for the bios. Still have to test the power circuits and will let you know of any success.

Why Are Bootups And Program Starts So Slow

Jan 22, 2016

Why are Windows 10 bootups and program starts so slow?

I upgraded to Windows 10 shortly after it became available for download. As this computer came with Windows 8.1 installed, I wanted to get rid of it ASAP, I would have put Windows 7 on it but I didn't want to purchase a 64 bit version of Windows 7 when the upgrade to Windows 10 would be free.

All in all, Windows 10 isn't all that much different from Windows 7. With a little effort, I have it set up to run just like Windows 7 was on it. The main problem with Windows 10 is that it boots REALLY SLOW, and it is also really slow at starting programs. As far as the start up programs that run in the background not counting my virus, and spyware programs, there are about 10 programs. Try as I might, I just can't figure out how to get rid of them. There are two that are brand name specific which I'd LOVE to get rid of, or stop from starting, and the rest seem to be just background programs that Windows 10 just seems to HAVE to have run. Other than those things, I think that Windows 10 is a lot better than Windows 8.1 ever was.

BSOD :: PC Freezes During Gaming And Sound Starts To Stutter

Jan 23, 2016

During this week I encountered a serious problem with my Laptop. While playing games it freezes and the sound starts to stutter. The only way out is to shut down the PC with the power button. This happens randomly, therefore I can play 20 mins. and I'm fine, or even up to a few hours without any problems, but it could happen anytime and this is really frustrating when playing online games .

My setup is a Clevo-PM15SM with theses specifications:
====================================
CPU: i7-4710MQ @ 2.50GHz (hyperthreaded to 8 cores)
GPU: Nvidia GeForce 880M
RAM: 8GB
OS: Clean install of Windows 10 (2 weeks old)

Task Manager and the Strg-Alt-Del Screen do not work.
Drivers are up-to date.
I can confirm it's not a heat issue my PC rarely tops the 50-60 C mark.
The RAM, CPU and GPU are all fine.

I have no clue what's going on. However I took a look at the Event Viewer and discovered that milliseconds before the crash the driver called EnhancedStorage-EhStorTcgDrv crashes. This happens before every crash without exception.

Laptop Now Starts Without Pressing Power Button Since Upgrade

Aug 4, 2015

So, last week I upgraded my Toshiba L850-161 from Windows 7 to 10. Since the upgrade my laptop now starts up as soon as the lid is lifted, without me pressing the power button to start the computer. I am shutting the computer down via the start menu.

I thought this problem may be caused by the fast Start-Up in Windows 10, but my friend also uses this feature on his laptop but he still needs to press the power button to start-up.

I then did some research and found the Panel Open - Power On software included by Toshiba. I checked to see if this was activated but it was disabled by default.

I'm a bit stuck here. According to my settings my laptop shouldn't start when the panel is opened, but it does, and I don't want it to. I'd rather start my laptop the old-fashioned way - with the power button.

Computer Starts To Restore To Previous Windows Version On Launch

Dec 26, 2015

I am running Windows 10. After having been away for 6 days something strange is happening when I turn my computer on. The "start screen" displays a message saying "Restoring your computer to a previous version of Windows" and I can see that it is working on doing something. I quickly turned it off.

I have updated antivirus/antimalware programs that I run frequently/automatically.

What can be going on, and is there a way to avoid this restoring to start when I turn my computer on?

Browser/Email :: Live Mail 2012 Intermittently Starts

Feb 3, 2016

Updated to Win 10 from Win 7 in Oct 2015. I have had intermittent problems with Live Mail starting, ever since. I updated the version to 2012. It will work for a few days then it will not start. I try to repair and I will get a message that it cannot be repaired while running. I will shut the computer down, immediately repair then open and it will work for a few days. I have also restored to earlier dates, prior to the latest updates. Again, it will work for a few days. When it will not start I get the Ox80041161 error code. I decided to try the Windows 10 mail app but it will not accept my password. I will input my password and immediately a message comes up I need to update my password. When I attempt to update, I can see my original password has been changed.

Performance :: Keyboard Repeat Rate Becomes (Slow) Every Time Computer Starts

Dec 6, 2015

I'm facing a very weird problem with Windows 10 on my new laptop. Every time I boot up or even wake from hibernate, my keyboard repeat rate gets reset to the slowest setting. I notice this only when I start using word or email.

The weirder thing is, in the keyboard settings window the setting would always be shown as "Fast", but actually it would be slow. To make it fast, I have to drag it to slow and then to fast again.

Updating Windows Boot Loop - Starts At 0% / Raises To 75% A Split Second Later Then Disappears And Turns Off

Jan 5, 2016

I recently upgraded to an SSD, I don't know if this is related.

While my PC was idle, it shut down for some reason (probably updates). I came back to an "Updating Windows" screen -- the exact screen used when installing, that big circle icon with a percentage. I have never had a computer boot to that on its own, but I assumed it was some important update. I let it do its thing.

Later, I came back to it doing this strange boot loop:

Motherboard splash screen
Normal W10 loading icon
Screen flash
A second, slightly larger loading icon

The "Updating WIndows" screen. Starts at 0%, raises to 75% a split second later, then disappears and turns off. This happens in about 1/5th of a second.

I booted into a startup repair disk, and ran startup repair. It said it couldn't fix issues. Next, I ran a chkdsk, there were issues it fixed but the boot loop is still in place.

Since I just installed an SSD last week, I still have my previous disk with the operating system still functioning. I booted it up, turned off automatic updates, and checked to see what may have caused this on my current disk. There were 2 updates available: A flash player update for IE, and Windows 10 version 1511 10586. I assume it is the latter, but how it installed, since I DID NOT AUTHORIZE THE INSTALL. Automatic updates are enabled, but I would have thought it'd install in November, when it was released (not 2 months later!)

I don't dare install it on my backup, in case I have to re-clone the SSD.

How To Mount ISO File Automatically

Aug 30, 2015

Magic ISO was removed when I updated to Windows 10 (though I had to clean up afterwards).

One thing I found very useful with MagicISO was the ability to have several ISO files that were always mounted, but it appears that I can't RMB on an ISO file and tell Windows 10 to always mount this file.

Is there some trick that will allow me to mount (a few) ISO files automatically when I login (or when the systems boots)?

C Drive Automatically Getting Filled Up

Oct 19, 2015

I had upgraded to win 10 about two months ago. for the last two days my c drive is getting filled up automatically. It is in excess of 90 gb and yet yesterday It was full. I tried to use online support and checked on dosv files etc but to no avail. I then decompressed all files using the option under properties on right clicking the c drive and got 25 gb free this morning. I am watching uselessly as it has already reduced to 19 gb and is reducing fast with no activity and no internet down load etc from my side.
